The complaint laid by Senator Natsha Akpoti-Uduaghan at the United Nations Inter parliamentary conference in New York on Tuesday has continued to attract reactions.

The Kogi Lawmaker had taken her case before the global institution for them to prevail over what she says is an injustice meted on her.

After listening to her complaint, the IPU told Senator Natasha that it will take necessary steps to address the complaints she brought to the union after listening to the other side.

The Nigerian Senate has however replied to Senator Natasha’s complaint to the IPU through a letter by the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele.

The letter was read by the Chairperson of the House of Representatives committee on Women Affairs and Social Development, Honorable Kafilat Ogbara, who is attending the event in an official capacity representing Nigeria.

The Senate letter read in part, “Senator Natasha-Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended for gross misconduct and unruly behaviour and not as a result of allegation of sexual harassment or assault. The authority of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria firmly refutes the deliberate misinformation and false narrative being circulated by certain media organisations regarding the sixth months suspension of Senator Natsaha-Akpoti-Uduaghan.

“Let it be unequivocally stated that Uduaghan was suspended solely for her persistent act of misconduct and disregard for the Senate Standing Orders.”

Honourable Ogbara, however, called for a thorough investigation into the allegation by Senator Natasha against the Senator President, Godswill Akpabio.

She maintained that procedures and necessary actions under the Senate rules were observed before Senator Natasha’s suspension.

Last week, the Senate suspended the lawmaker in a move that has continued to generate debates across the country.

She had initially submitted a petition to the Senate accusing Akpabio of sexual harassment. But the lawmakers threw it out before suspending her even after submitting another petition.

Senator Natasha vowed to continue the fight against “injustice”. But in the wake of the suspension, Akpabio denied the accusations and maintained he has never assaulted women.

Her altercation with the Senate president started on February 20, 2025, after her seat was changed during plenary.

That is not the first time both individuals had issues. In July 2024, Akpabio had while trying to correct her for misconduct told her to follow the rules and that the Senate is not a nightclub where anybody can talk anyhow. The Akwa Ibom lawmaker, however, later apologised to her for the remark.

The Senate replied to her allegations (a typical blackmailing trait by Night Clubers) using her fellow woman in the Senate who is officially representing Nigeria in IPU - Case closed.

The Police is well equipped to investigate her allegation and the law court is where people who feel their rights has been infringed upon are supposed to go to. So, what is the essence of the theatrics that Natasha is performing?

Though I don't like Akpabio because of his insensitive utterances , we all in this country are very much aware that Natasha is not being penalized because of her allegations but because of her total disregard of the entire Senate arrangements. We are all aware she's just trying to shift attention away from her actual act to something totally different.
Why didn't she level complain on her being sexually harassed ever since before her gross misconduct in the Senate Assembly?
Please don't tell me she felt intimidated and didn't know what to do. That would be a huge shame on her office and the level of experience she has acquired. Does it surprise you that what to do miraculously come her when she anticipated that she would be penalized for her gross misconduct?
Those that understand people like Natasha would understand that she is just trying to manipulate Nigerians and gather support from feminist sympathisers.

In Nigeria, if a poor man offends the powerful, justice is instant — a truckload of Mopol, thugs, and vigilantes is dispatched without delay.

But now, a female senator has accused a fellow senator of sexual harassment, and the silence is deafening.
• No word from the Minister of Justice
• No investigation from the Senate
• No statement from the Judiciary or Presidency

Suddenly, the same system that punishes the poor without trial becomes shy, careful, quiet — because the accused is part of the elite.

Let’s be clear: this isn’t just hypocrisy, it’s complicity. And the world is watching.

Soon, a U.S. or European journalist will ask the Nigerian President:

“What actions were taken after this public allegation? Has it been investigated? What protections are in place now?”

And what will the reply be?

Silence here equals guilt. Delay equals shame.

This scandal won’t die. It will grow, and when it goes international, it will haunt Nigeria’s image.

Act now — or prepare to answer under brighter lights.

I was actually surprised to listen to her one-sided account of what happened. She conveniently skipped the seat disagreement and conduct which happened BEFORE the allegation of sexual harassment

I don't even like when some people think that toothless international organisations will solve domestic problems for them. Will they come to Nigeria to beat people?

She should passionately follow through the petition she submitted on sexual harassment while providing convincing and irrefutable proofs. Both the victim and alleged offender deserve fairness.

My former female boss would often advise me that, as a woman in a professional setting, it's best to avoid using excuses or defenses that are stereotypically associated with women, such as menstrual issues or childcare responsibilities, as they can perpetuate the perception of weakness and diminished capability in the workplace.

It's embarrassing for Senator Natasha to make sexual harassment claims that allegedly occurred over a year ago, especially since she recently broke senate rules. The timing of her allegations, which she hadn't shared with anyone (not even her husband) until now, raises questions about her motives. Moreover, she hasn't provided any concrete evidence to support her claims, and I doubt it if she has any.

She claims to be 45. If this is true, I think the age requirement for female senators should be raised to 55, because at this age, the sweetness of being a woman must have drastically diminished and they would squarely face what they were elected for.

Stop typing nonsense.

A person claimed she was suspended because of her allegation against the senate president. She conveniently avoided the immediate reason she was sanctioned. The senate just responded that her suspension was due to gross misconduct. So which claim are you talking about?

Go through the archives. Immediate apology could have solved all these.
Akpabio apologiesed to Saraki.
Ireti apologiesed last December.
Saraki suspended Abdul Ningi.
Arthur Nzeribe refused to apologise, his suspension was never lifted for almost 3yrs, & was not re-elected.
The person who told you that the Senate can’t suspend a Senator for more than 4 weeks lied to you. It’s propaganda. Natasha wasn’t suspended for 6 months to silence her. She was suspended because she broke rules and refused to apologize. Her suspension has got nothing to do with her sex@al assault blackmail as she claimed.
