DStv has announced price hikes for 2025, which will see its Premium package increase by R50 per month.

In rand terms, prices will be going up between R1 and R50 across all packages, representing a range of 2% to 44%.

The biggest jump is seen in the Showmax PL streaming package, which is increasing by R30 from R69 per month to R99 per month (+43.5%).

Several streaming packages, including the DStv Stream and standard Showmax package will have no increase, while ADD Movies will have a 38% price cut from R79 to R49.

MultiChoice SA CEO Byron Du Plessis said the price adjustments considered the current financial strain on households, with the group looking to add value and savings where it could.

Notably, MultiChoice said that prices will have to be adjusted again from May 2025 to include the 0.5 percentage point VAT hike announced by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana in his March 2025 budget.

“As announced in the recent national budget, the South African VAT rate will increase by 0.5% to 15.5% from 1 May 2025,” the group said.

“As a result, pricing will need to be adjusted for this higher VAT rate effective 1 May. We will communicate the impact of this VAT increase on your package pricing during April 2025.”

Multichoice said that subscribers can mitigate the impact of the rising costs and incoming VAT changes by using the group’s ‘price lock deals’.

For example, a 24-month price lock contract, available until 31 March 2025 at R899 per month, would save a customer R2,400 over two years.

One common complaint here in Nigeria is that South Africa does pay per view.

As can be seen here, they run packages. Like we do here.

Nigerians are just terrible people who expect the best by giving so little. They think they deserve better than anyone else.

DStv provides world class services. They should fire on since no company on the continent can rival them.
