"Over 70% Of 43m Housing Units In Nigeria Substandard" - Minister Of Housing by Kennyswag: 12:54pm On Mar 18
Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has said over 70% of Nigeria’s 43 million housing units, do not meet the basic standards of habitability, safety, sanitation, accessibility, and infrastructure as outlined by the United Nations and the World Health Organization (WHO).

He stated this at the Renewed Hope Housing Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) 2025 Summit with the theme: ‘Leveraging PPPs for Housing and Urban Development’, Monday, in Abuja.

The keynote speaker stated that only 3.30% of households have access to water, 24.00% have access to sewage systems, and just 51.70% are connected to the national grid.

“These challenges highlight the need for a dual approach to housing and urban development in our country. This includes slum upgrades and urban renewal to address existing deficiencies, and the construction of new housing units to meet the growing population’s needs.

“I am pleased to report that the ministry is addressing these challenges through the Renewed Hope Housing Programme and the National Urban Renewal and Slum Upgrade Programme, in alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu".

“Under a PPP framework arrangement, we are working to deliver 100,000 units with a Consortium of Developers,” the minister stated.

This is how to spot a shithole. Especially access to water. It’s pure rocket science for Governors to provide that (I have never been to a any State Capital which residents have complete access to pipe borne water talk more of all the 774 LGAs, will be glad if someone correct me though) and there’s always a useless WATERBOARD (maybe for waterboarding).

How many States have proper sewage systems? Even the FCT that receives lot of funds as allocation don’t have a proper drainage system in the whole of AMAC talk more of Kuje, Kwali, Gwagwalada, Karu, Bwari etc.

51.70% connected to National Grid, that’s a good number sef considering the fact that a shithole like this haven’t fixed her electricity since 666AD. If majority have the means to leave the National Grid for a better option, this figure will drop just like the access to water figure.

Funny race.

It's always about 'we are planning', 'we are developing', 'we are investing'.....

U will never hear "we have completed the construction of 20000 housing units and have given it out to the homeless masses"
..
You say 70% of Naija house are substandard and don't meet UN house specifications. Question is how many standard house have ur govt delivered and distributed to the Masses? Useless people,

Even the eldorado known as Lagos, only about 10% of the over 20 million population have access to pipe borne water generated by Water board, accordingto stats.. Others just dig borehole and use the untreated, hard water like that.
A vast majority drink from sachet water filled with microplastic.

I'm heartbroken for my beloved country.

A government that can't provide drinkable water to start with, what can it provide.?

It's ridiculous.
