Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, along with his family, has reportedly relocated to the Bayelsa State Governnment House following a declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.

This move comes in the wake of a turbulent political crisis and escalating power struggles within the state, which prompted President Bola Tinubu to take decisive action.

On March 18, 2025, President Tinubu suspended Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for a period of six months, citing the need to restore stability in the region.

The suspension follows a prolonged political crisis, primarily fueled by a bitter feud between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

This conflict has resulted in violent clashes, governance gridlock, and a series of legal battles that have significantly destabilized the state’s political environment.

According to sources close to the situation, the Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has stepped in to offer refuge to Fubara and his family during this period of unrest. The relocation is believed to have been facilitated by the Governor of Bayelsa, who is reportedly housing Fubara and his relatives within the Bayelsa State Government House.

The relocation occurred on Wednesday morning, with Fubara and his family leaving the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt. Security forces at the government building have been reduced, though a few Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and a small security presence remain at the premises.

Sources also confirmed that the Government House was relatively quiet, with only a handful of security operatives stationed on site.

In an effort to restore order, President Tinubu appointed former Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Ibokette lbas, as the administrator for Rivers State.

Ibas will oversee the state’s affairs during the six-month emergency period, which is aimed at resolving the ongoing political unrest caused by the deepening conflict betw
een the governor and lawmakers.

Good and bad

Good is solidarity

Bad is the Ijaw signalling

Not everyone in Rivers will appreciate this?

This thing is starting to resemble the 1966 crisis that plunged the nation into a brutal 30-month interregnum. The parallels are undeniable, and the stakes are just as high—if not higher. History is dangerously close to repeating itself.

If it were APC state it won’t even gotten to this stage before the leadership intervene, PDP leadership really failed Fubara . They didn’t even try to come in to settle the issue , Atiku didn’t utter a word not until Tinubu declare state of emergency. Tinubu tried to mediate between Fubara and Wike , they nearly chop him alive

Go back to history class!
There is little to no resemblance.
Where are the inter-ethnic pogroms?
Where are the post-election killings?

Fubara is too small to trouble ordinary Opobo where he comes from, let alone the country.

Rivers has been a parent to bayelsa even, created from rivers ,most project in andoni was commissioned and launched by past governors nd present governors of bayelsa, what am sure is power is transient and it shall not be well with people that orchestra the emergency and those supporters that are supporting tinubu for such act,na so karma go visit una

If this is true it shows how primordial and ethnic jingoist Fubara is. In the whole of Rivers State you could find a place to stay save Bayelsa? You went to Bayelsa because you think you are Ijaw governor. This act does nothing other than fanning the amber of cut-throat ethnic rivalry in the state. When you were campaigning well u didnt campaign we never heard Ijaw.
This is wrong of you. Just as Wike said the only state where Ijaw majority can swing the pendulum of political victory is only in Bayelsa State among the Niger Deltan states.

The turmoil of 1967 to 1970 didn’t arise suddenly; it was the result of a series of events set in motion years earlier. A flawed election in 1962 shattered trust, followed by a manipulated census that deepened divisions. Then came Operation Wetie, the state of emergency, and the coup and counter-coup—each escalating tensions further. But the crisis didn’t start in 1960; its roots run deeper, shaped by political greed, ethnic tensions, and the lingering effects of colonial rule.

Look at what’s happening in Sudan today it’s not just history repeating itself; it’s a warning. When power is abused, divisions are exploited, and justice is ignored, the result is inevitable: chaos, bloodshed, and collapse. The past isn’t just for history it’s a lesson.
