No!

A state road linking major places and built by a state governor should be made a double lane. According to the post, the road serves as a viable alternative for people traveling to Owerri (Imo State), which makes it a major road that leads out of town.

Abeg this is 2025! It's not nice!
You have answered yourself - an alternative road. It means it is not the primary road to Owerri, which means it does not see heavy traffic.

How you go construct a whole 17km of single lane road? What kind of play is that? They should have made it two lane.

Anyways, at all at all na em bad pass. Still better than the entire ZERO road the Agulu fraud built during his 8 year tenure as Anambra governor.

With time it will definitely be expanded.

that is a two lane road. Are you blind? Roads are not constructed for show, it's constructed to accommodate the traffic situation in an area.

Can we just stop building single lanes in this country? It's not safe driving on such roads. Even if you care about your own safety, you are not sure of the upcoming vehicles.

Theres nothing wrong with single lane roads. It depends on the area and purpose.

How often do vehicle ply the road. That's the question. You can't dualize a road that has low vehicular density.

I simply find it difficult to process, that - even in 2025, this is how much a State like Rivers (in the South South - main Engine of the Nation so to speak) can provide their own Bonafide residents angry angry
I mean, c'mon - just for safety - do 2 of these lanes (dualize), that is if you want to be considered a progressive politician that came and made attempt at making life better for the people! PLEASE this is 2025!

People like YOU will be the first to complain that food is expensive and no money.
If they ask you to farm, you will say no - you are a graduate (and dey find job - i.e., someone to employ you o).
When in reality, you can set up a farm (find your niche) or even a farm technological solution to our current food provision and delivery problems we face every day.

Read what you wrote and tell me if it makes sense to you. This road is a new artery to open up the rural area. Besides, there is an alternative road that still leads to same destination. why should the government dualize a road that vehicle seldom plys. Even this road will be beneficial to okada riders and inter-state transport companies as a way of shortening travel time.

So the road being single carriage will prevent food from coming to the urban area. Very interesting point of view.

Factors that leads to dualization or expansion of road are the vehicular density. If this road was done in Urban area I would have had issues with it but not in this part of Rivers state where development may not even get to even in decades to come.

20 - 30 years ago, Rumuokoro roundabout was once 'artery" road, Eliogbolo village with inner road at the time was also a good example. Go to all those places today and tell us how the network has improved. From Artillery junction, bori camp road, East West road to uniport and road to Bayelsa area. etc. My point is this, regardless of where a road is being constructed / built, it should be done the right way. Simple. Proper town planning should be taken into consideration etc.
Rivers State - Port Harcourt to be precise lack foresight in town planning. Bad road construction everywhere, (Aba Road), Rumuola, absolutely no planning. Nothing. Yet, the small enclave (that cannot even match Harris County Texas), and upgraded to State level (many years ago) cannot even manage something simple as normal road or electricity power generation for the same people that voted these government officials. No sense of accountability whatsoever.

And before you come back and say too much, this is a representation of the entire country called Nigeria. tongue tongue grin

You think what opened Choba and Aluu is Uniport? Do you know how many decades it took those axis to open notwithstanding the siting of a Federal University in this two communities.

Two years ago I had over 50 plots of land in Ogbudo in Isiokpo. When I was looking for buyers I kept on harping that the land is close to Wigwe University, but my potential clients were not moved by it. One even told me that if the siting of school is the basis for buying land, that Elele would have been far developed with the siting of Madonna University in Elele long ago.

What took development to Alu is the greater PH masterplan that was conceived by Amaechi. Look at Emohua, given that development has gotten to Alu, why didn't it triggle down to Emohua that is very close to Uniport? Within 45 minutes and in the absence of traffic gridlock one can drive from Emohua to Port Harcourt. Yet Emohua is still bushy. Instead development passed Emohua and started going towards Ahoada.

Even the Rumuokoro axis, as far back as 2005, Rumudumaya was a bushy enclave. What opened that axis is one promixity to PH. Besides, how many years do you think is the lifecycle of roads in Rivers state. You also forget that roads in Rivers state cannot exceed 10 years owing to the frequency of rain.

DuBLINGreenb:

In cities and areas with high or moderate traffic that is understandable

But this road is connecting 2 villages where most people use bicycles and motor cycles and it has little traffic.

How many times do people visit their neighbouring villages where you are from and do they visit in convoys of Mercedes Benz’ and coaster buses?

If this road was connecting to a major city like port harcourt or even a place with a population of 500,000 or even 300,000 people and above I will understand your comment.

But this road is connecting 2 villages with population less than 200,000 and none of these communities have anything attracting visitors, not a stadium, not an international hospital, airport, big multinational company NOTHING.

So you want government to sink money into an 8 lane super highway connecting 2 viallages with a population of 100,000 people each which no one will ever use, even in the picture did you see any car on the road? Did you even see a bicycle or motorcycle on the road?

Go to Google maps now and see if you’ll see any cars on the road in google satelitę images that’s to tell you the low traffic on such roads.

I am not saying roads shouldn’t exist of course they should I believe all communities should have this type of roads leading to closest community to them then as traffic grows the road can be expanded.

Nigerians are narrow minded and don’t understand for themselves that’s the issue here, when you understand why and how then you will know when to ask for what and why. But you guys are good in cramming and passing exam without really understanding that’s why you always ask for things without knowing why or if you even need it.

It’s the reason you ask for president from you Tribe and state as if that will help your state or its people in any way
You ask for super highways and trains from a desert no one lives in to another desert no one visits and then wonder why no one uses your “world class road” And it can’t be maintained.
No one uses a road simply because it is a road or it is smooth, they use the road because they want to visit something or someone or do something somewhere that road leads to.

Roads to Lagos city in Lagos state are more traveled than roads leading to Baro city in Niger state WHY?

Because people want something in Lagos they aren’t visiting Lagos just because the roads leading to Lagos are good. Even if the roads leading to Lagos was bad they’d still use the road and even if the road leading to baro was the best road in all of Africa they still wouldn’t visit baro.

Fun fact: did you know that during the colonial era Baro had a MAJOR inland port it is close to the river Niger and it was used in transporting groundnut and cotton.
It has a railway, it has colonial buildings, it is a good case for this road because it shows that you cannot force people to visit a place simply by building Railway, good roads, good ports etc.
Past administrations but states and federal have tried to revive this city to no avail.
If all that money wasted on those projects: River port, inland port, railway etc that no one uses today was put into places people actually want to live Nigeria would be better off to a small degree today.

No one will visit your village only 4 elderly people live in your village and 2 can no longer walk the other 2 are blind but regardless of that you want your village to have 3 sea ports, 4 airports, 6 hydroelectric dams, 200 fuel stations, 10 lane roads 🤣 only because it is your village.

Why not put these facilities in places people actually reside and visit. The border towns the first places people see when they fly into, drive into, walk into, when they film Nigeria or their experiences in Nigeria.

Build a football club people LOVE then build that club a stadium then build hotels for fans to stay in when they come to see the games live.
as fans number increases with time you also increase the stadium’s capacity. That’s how it should be but
Nigerians will instead build hotels first 🤣 then build a stadium second and then wonder why no one is staying in the hotels or visiting the stadiums and using them when there is nothing to see in the stadium 😆
And then they use the stadium once a year for one religious event and use it once in 4 years for political rally and say it was money well spent 🤡
Am not talking about this but talking in general. For example see Sagamu to Ikorodu road newly constructed one lane and accident is happening there almost every week many people have lost their on this road

17.5KM EGBEDA-OMERELU ROAD COMPLETED, SET FOR COMMISSIONING!

The 17.5km Egbeda-Omerelu Road, a vital link in Rivers State's transport network, has been fully reconstructed and is now set for commissioning. This road, approved by Governor Siminalayi Fubara on May 21, 2024, during the commissioning of Egbeda Internal Roads, is another testament to his administration’s commitment to infrastructure renewal.

For travelers from Omoku axis heading to Owerri, this project offers a much-needed alternative route, eliminating the need to pass through Elele. The improved connectivity is expected to enhance trade, ease movement, and boost economic activities within the region.

Governor Fubara’s administration continues to deliver on its promise of meaningful development, ensuring that critical roads across the state are not only rehabilitated but also strategically designed to improve accessibility and convenience for Rivers people.
