The Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria, in a communiqué after a pro-subsidy rally in Abuja, directed its members nationwide to ignore the call for protests by a section of the labour movement.

RTEAN national president, Dr. Olufemi Ajewole, at a press conference in Abuja, pledged the support and loyalty of the association to the federal government.
He said his members had been directed to ignore the call for strike and continue with their lawful businesses.

You untaught ones are always shameless.

Why don't you call the entire Igbo race appropriate names since our dear sister Okonjo Iwealla and others of the "valiant" Igbo "race" gave GEJ the blueprint to implement this pernicious policy?

By your definition, would it be fair to call those "daylight robbers"?

Aimless people that one should actually avoid like lepers in real-life or cyber-life.

How low can people get. There are Yorubas in support of subsidy removal, there are others against it. How does one man's declaration equal sell out in this case. Y'all need to get out of stereotypes.

Many unions have expressed their support for the subsidy removal, there is nothing special about RTEAN.
Most people too, are not going to strike for very long, because in these tough times, very few can afford to waste days without pay and the govt is not going to back down.

Wow  !!!! From the little I have read of his posts recently,  I would certainly not have associated OP with this very low and shamelessly bigoted, baseless and very offensive rant.

@topic.

Simply a ridiculous thread. "Is sellout in their Genes"? "Is criminality in the genes of every black man"?

The article below is for folks like you who will never elevate their minds  above vengefulness and inferiority complex, regarding our past, over events that is best consigned to history by winners determined to move forward in an age of self-determination and individual ability/endeavour.

You are still , in a global age, cursed with the affliction of blaming an entire ethnic group, 100% , for your pathetic personal existence. One Yoruba name associated with support for fuel subsidy removal and you conclude a whole ethnic group have "sellout in their genes". What do you say about the many from the SE blindly backing a policy that will hurt all Nigerians ? Shall we similarly conclude you have blind bigotry and ethic bias in your genes since you are ready to cut your nose to spite your face because "Ebele" is President?

Strike: Count us out –South-east traders
From IJEOMA ONUORAH, Nnewi, GEOFFERY ANYANWU, Awka
Monday, January 09, 2012

Chairman of the South-east Governor’s Forum, Mr. Peter Obi and the South-east Amalgamated Traders Association (SEAMATA) have dissociated themselves from today’s nationwide strike, being embarked by organized Labour .

The market leaders, who visited Mr. Peter Obi in Awka yesterday, said the entire South-east would not participate in the planned strike, and equally expressed support to President Goodluck Jonathan on the removal of fuel subsidy.

Governor Obi said the support for the removal of oil subsidy was predicated on the fact that funds saved from the exercise would be used to improve the economy of the country, especially in the areas of infrastructure, power, education and job creation He urged the Federal Government to ensure that the funds were strictly applied in the specified areas.

While commending the Federal Government for efforts made so far, he called for more decisive measures to ensure security of lives and property in various parts of the country, especially the troubled parts. In an eight-point communiqué issued after their meeting at the governor’s lodge and signed by the President, Chief Okwudili Ezenwankwo and Secretary, Mr. Temple Udeh, the traders said the decision taken by the government was in the overall interest of the country.

The traders further stated that the monumental corruption that has characterized the petroleum industry over the years as a result of the distortions created by the subsidy had only enriched individuals. The communiqué read in part: “We note that there will be initial hardship that will be experienced by the people of Nigeria, but we accept that this will be compensated for by the palliative measures planned by the government to cushion the effects. Our support is premised on the promise that the savings from the subsidy will be channelled to massive infrastructural development and job creation.

“We therefore urge Mr. President that the promises made to the Nigerian people are kept in addition to reducing the cost of governance, as a demonstration of his commitment to the sacrifices made. Based on the foregoing, SEAMATA and traders of the South-east origin, wish to disassociate ourselves from the planned nationwide strike, as we believed that the strike will not be in the best interest of the common man,” it said.

The traders, however, called on the organized labour, civil society organizations and other stakeholders to give government a chance and go into negotiations for lasting solutions, urging them to begin talks with Justice Alfa Belgore-led negotiation team.
