Mambila Hydroelectric Power, Abuja-kaduna Railway Projects, Makes Top 100 Global by karlmax2: 9:17am On Jan 19, 2012
In February 22-24, 2012, over 400 executives from the public and private sector will gather at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in London, UK for the 5th Annual Global Infrastructure Leadership Forum designed to facilitate business and promote the top 100 Global Infrastructure Projects. The theme of this year’s Global Infrastructure Leadership Forum is "Winners in the Global Infrastructure Marketplace: High Value Projects. High Level Alliances. World Class Expertise”. Through the Leadership Forums, CG/LA facilitates economic growth by encouraging private business and the public sector to work closely on fundamental infrastructure. Each year top 100 projects from around the globe are selected for recognition, presentation and high-level discussion, more than 400 executives from key industries, including contractors, engineers, equipment and technology providers, financiers, and policy experts would be hosted. Mr. Daniel Omonze, President of the Initiative for Infrastructure and Modern City Development (IIMCD) and the Country Co-ordinator of 5th Annual Global Infrastructure Leadership in Nigeria said the forum will showcase countries with the most Innovative and competitive infrastructure projects. Listed among the top 100 global infrastructure projects includes the Mambila Hydroelectric Power project, this project is described as the crown project for Nigeria to address the issue of power, the project is one of the major programmes of the Federal Government towards improving energy security in the country, also listed is the Abuja-Kaduna Railway Project, a modernisation programme of the government to implement an efficient transport system in Nigeria. The total estimated value of the projects identified in 2011 is US$784 billion. This is nearly double the total enterprise value of projects identified in 2010, and represents both pent-up demand and a clear recognition that re-starting global growth depends on significant new investment. The assessment focuses on ‘clusters’ of infrastructure pipeline zones - countries, or regions, that efficiently produce projects that are expected to go forward in the next 3-12 months. This year’s critical sectors reflect key trends in global infrastructure, the rise of mega-projects, shale gas as a demand driver, and continuing pent-up demand in the transport sector - nearly 28% of the Top 100 list is made up of either highway or Urban Mass Transit projects. The Top 100 List is released prior to the 5th Annual Global Infrastructure Forum. According to Norman F. Anderson, President and CEO of CG/LA Infrastructure said that “The organisation works towards providing critical information on key projects around the world, and the firms that are best positioned to participate in those projects”. Projects are selected based on the vision and leadership of their development and the competitiveness they will endow the country or region they serve. The IIMCD Boss said project sponsors will deliver targeted, rapid-fire project presentations focused on the projects’ needs and business development opportunities. The Leadership Forum identifies and selects projects that (a) will most contribute to the competitiveness of their country and region (b) will offer strong business opportunities in the next 3-18 months and (c) contribute to job creation and opportunity creation for their state or province. Projects span all infrastructure sectors including: Electricity Generation, Transmission and Distribution, Oil & Gas, Digital Infrastructure, “New Energy”, Water/ Wastewater, Ports & Logistics, Urban Mass Transit, and Airports. Each sector offers a series of cross-cutting - finance, equipment, technology, engineering & construction, public policy, services - opportunities for high-level executives .MDB’s and Commercial Banks working in debt lending, equity finance, as well as pension funds and hedge funds comprise the majority of the financial institutions at the Forum. Sponsors and attendees include: World Bank, African Development Bank, EBRD, IFC, Deutsche Bank, GE Capital, Goldman Sachs, JBIC, KPMG, Macquarie Capital, Scotia Capital, UBS and West LB Engineers and Contractors Since many of the projects presented have procured financing but are looking for construction partnerships, Engineering & Construction firms benefit tremendously from the Leadership Forum.
