What I'm trying to say is that if Immigrants behave themselves, do their work and maintain the peace, people will want them to stay. But look at the behaviour of Mexicans, Nigerians and Jamaicans in the USA. They terrorise the citizens.

shocked shocked I bet Americans would feel safer with a Nigerian than an Arab.

I think is not cool to stay illegal. I have a lot of friends who went to US to improve their quality of life. All of them got married and now they are legal.
There are a thousands of nigerians here too and they always get married (even the ugly ones grin). Here people dont like them because they usually stay in one place during the whole day making calls and people believe is all about drug business shocked every day a lot of nigerians are arrested because of it, there are people around the world , but nigerians are more.

In the airplane, all companies have problem with people trying to travel with illegal stuff but South Africa Airlines have much more

I always count on your imputs anyday. grin  Let me tell you that "some" Nigerians are not like those in Brazil.  I think you guys imported the ex-convicts from the Nigerian society--the never do wells and failure to thrives.  A lot of Nigerians are professionals and disciplined but the sad news is that "we" are in the minority.

That's okay to do so Simi. Anything to protect you and your "Oga". We live in dangerous times to be called "Nigerians" anywhere in the world! cheesy

Now its all in the open. The Governor of New York is embarking on granting illegals immigrants drivers license.

This will generate a lot of heat in NYC. Immigration to me ad to this administration is all about politics

Don't forget that immigration matters are often put on hold till elections are at hand. The same old political ploy to get hispanic votes. That is why I believe that both REPS and DEMS are the same when it comes to winning. Both sides will continue to "pass" the buck until individual states will start taking laws into their own hands--when the citizens get tired of all the games. This has been generating heat all over the nation but still remains an ongoing problem.

It is all about winning elections.

My question is don't we have more serious issues we should be concentrating on? Unemployement, health care
IRAQ

Not right now. Immigration is the most important thing to discuss if you want to steal votes from your opponents. That holds the "4 Aces" for 2008 elections. Everyone wants the hispanic votes.

It is easy to see just one side to this story without considering the other side of it all. A few months ago, some groups from Africa and some other organization leveled an accusation against the western world. Accusing them of taking away skilled people by allowing them easily immigrate to the West while stripping developing countries of needed skills.

Many of these illegals are skilled and educated people will skills that would serve them better if they remained in their home countries, if only these countries actually valued them more. Doctors from all over africa escape to America. Some take to taxi driving and other menial jobs to support themselves while africa has to deal with loss of their skills.

Clamping down will not only help the US but will also help drive people back to countries where they are seriously needed. ILLEGAL immigration is not to be encouraged at all. I have met my share of illegal immigrants who happen to be intelligent Africans and if only Africa appreciated them more, they would not be here.

Kobojunkie, why are always comparing america with third world countries?what do you think people come to america for?just like you,for greener pastures, suppose though,it could be hell.It is a no man's land except for native americans, every other person is a foreigner including george bush, they are europeans, that brutalized the indians and took their heritage. There is a new world order going on,a different kind of nazism

People should catch up with the trend, whether you are in america or in zimbabwe,be ready to ride or die,you don't have a choice.

For intelligent minds out there who are willing to consider this debate in some form. Here is a debate I participated in a while back and got me thinking of how much immigration has not only affected Africa in a big way but has basically helped strip the land of skilled labour which we now get by having foreigners get paid to bring back. This is not the fault of the west however but the fault of African governments. http://worldhaveyoursay./2008/02/22/should-luring-developing-world-doctors-be-a-crime/

@ All those talking against illegal immigrants, if i dont know anything, who would convince me that most Nigerians are not PRETENDERS and HYPOCRITES when it comes to telling ourselves the truth, HABA!! this is y the country is actually suffering from the hands of people who claim to know the right thing but they are not doing it!! Pls lets me sincere here if just 4 1nce in history, i am not in support of illegal migration to the US or any developed country, but i keep wondering if all the Nigerians who were able to get a visa actually had the Millions on Naira on their statement of account they showed at the embassies for studies and other purpose when they applied. Travelling to the US without having the permit is wrong, but what about millions that came in legally for studies and tried hard 2 stabilize but couldnt switch to H1 visa in the US after their studies and after spending thousands of dollars on tuition fees, what should they do? is it guaranteed that u would find an employer who would file an H1 visa 4 u just within the period of time you are allowed to stay after your studies in the US, ALL THESE ARE HARD ?'s but wetin man go do? These countries are making it hard on most immigrants who have good intentions 4 instance after studies to get a good jobs, live and work legally, THAT IS D TRUTH. I took time to talk to most of the international students i know around what they keep saying is that situation has not improved at home so they would prefer to stay back, does this really make sense? Even in the UK if you are lucky to get a Tier 1 based work permit for 3 years you still have to pack ur bags and baggages and leave soon if you are not able to switch and also meet up with the huge financial requirement. PLEASE if you are lucky to scale through the immigration hurdles in the US maybe after studies tru work, family ties or whatever means to stabilize your stay just thank God and relax instead of pointing accusing fingers at those who are still handicapped. MANY know but they would definitely deny that MANY legal immigrants today who came to the US legally but had to remain in the system did alot of illegal runs ( bogus marriage and stuffs) in order 2 stabilize at the expense of their partners, i read someones post here on NL that he would rather remain illegal instead of doing that 2 a human like him/her, that sounds confusing!!! We all know ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION IS BAD, but each man has his own story to tell cus not all illegal immigrant ever knew they would be in that kind of situation.

The US government should weed them all out. . . . cool
Re: Crackdown On Illegal Immigrants In the US by ow11(m): 6:17pm On Oct 29, 2009
While I do not subscribe to illegal immigration, most of them do not really have any more viable choices. Below is a comment I got from Kobojunkie's link. . .

Well, actually, the whole thing is a scam. As we read above, governments such as the Australian (American/British) connive to get cheap staff without having to train them. The “donor” governments can then charge all sorts of fees as part of their “export” of human labour. Indeed, large sums of money are often sent home -which keep families at home alive -so local governments don’t have to bother with their responsibilities any more. This leaves them free to make even more money (personally) by scamming and pork barreling off all the foreign being forced investment schemes being pushed through in their countries.

Like all good scams -it is wonderful for those who benifit. The health INDUSTRY -that gets cheap labour, with low investment costs. The inhabitants of the rich counties that are so smug about how they get cheap services and how they are “helping” people from poor countries…. The families who profit by exporting their relatives. The “donor” governments who sell their people and so don’t need to develop their own local economies (which is virtually impossible anyhow under the current unfair system of trade). The transport companies profit; the bankers profit (as the exchange rates go up because of the remitances -so the more people send the less actually arrives); the telecom companies profit from the extra communication needs of lonely people, etc., etc…

But what about the effect on the people who exploit the system and the people who are left? Bankrupt and corrupt countries with no basic facilities and where people are forced to emmigrate (if they can). Fortress America and Europe -building fences (like Israel) to keep out the unwanted -so they can get the pick of the best…, On the other side, smug, rich people who have no idea how they profit from the destruction of human societies around the world. …. and in the middle -legalised people traffickers and orgaganised prostitution of human intelligence and labour…. a rising flood of international corruption that is increasingly seen as normal…,

Perhaps worst of all is the obscenity of those who defend legal people traficking as “freedom of movement”…, When a bullet is fired from a gun -does it trully have “freedom of movement” -or is its trajectory determined by those who pull the trigger? Indeed, we now live in a trully Orwellian world -where commercialism has become the new dictatorship, where “Big Brother” has become entertainment -and where being forced to sell your child or your soul is all part of the new global “freedom”.

Incidentally, this isn’t just about medical staff -similar things apply to teachers, researchers, call center workers, etc…
Re: Crackdown On Illegal Immigrants In the US by agathamari(f): 7:33pm On Oct 29, 2009
you are subject to the laws of the country you reside. if the laws of that country limit how a person enters and you break that lw you are subject to whatever punishment that country has deemed fit whether it be jail or deportation. if you wish to live in the us you must follow the laws including those of imigration. you enter illegaly or overstay your visa you should be sent home whether you are form england or nigeria, mexico or china.

you have to understand the scenereos and plan for the worst while expecting the best.  if i couldnt find a job before my visa expired then yes i would go back to my home country.  after getting home i would research better and see where i should have been in the first place to ensure my employment.  if it means reaplying for a new visa in a differnt city or even a different country.  lack of a job is no excuse for breaking the law.  do us citizens who have no job get a "get out of jail free card" when they rob a convienence store? no.  breaking the law is breaking the law and will and must be punished to the fullest extent to ensure social order

They will never crack down, the only way is amnesty. In my city alone, there are millions of illegal immigrants. They are mostly mexicans but there are a few naijas walking around undocumented too. . . .
