A robber, who strongly believed he must show love to his lover on Valentine’s Day by any means possible, has been burnt to death by an irate mob in Warri, Delta State.

The Valentine lover was lynched and burnt to death by the mob after his failed attempt to steal gift items he intended to present to his lover from a boutique in Udu area of Delta State.

The Moment On Saturday learnt that the deceased was reported to have stolen some clothes from a roadside boutique along Orhurunwho Road near Warri, but was not lucky as the shop owner raised an alarm when he attempted to escape.

It was gathered that the deceased had gone to the boutique pretending to be shopping for his girlfriend for the Valentine’s Day when he suddenly brought out a gun to intimidate both the shop owner and her sales girl.

He was, however, given a hot chase as he stepped out of the shop after picking the few items in a bag and the shop owner (a lady), raised an alarm, which attracted her neighbours.

The robber lover, however, remained unrelenting as he shot into the air when it became obvious that those chasing him were catching up with him. The gunshot that was meant to create panic did not yield its desired result as those chasing after him intensified the hot chase.

He was later caught with a rubber bag containing female clothes and about five pairs of jean material, which he said he stole as valentine gifts for his girlfriend since he could not afford to buy.

The irate mob that chased the deceased lynched and burnt him alive, close to the popular Esco Superstore, along the ever-busy road.

The incident, which happened about 6:30 p.m., caused heavy traffic gridlock along the road where hundreds of residents thronged to catch a glimpse of the deceased.

But in a swift reaction, the state police chief, Mamman Tsafe, said there was no need for people to take laws into their hands especially now that the police were on top of security situation in the metropolis.

There is an opportunity to learn from this sad incident for those who naively think or believe that the exaggerated date of Feb 14 is the end of the world. Why impose so much pressure on yourself because of a mere date?

Barbaric and uncouth. This is expected when people reduce valentine to gifts and money.

Where's the love? the kind that leads to ur death cz you fear losing them if you don't fulfill their demands?? That's selfish, foolish and Pathetic.

Valentine's original, pure love was brewed in prison and all he sent were notes to his gal.

He was hanged not cz he stole or borrowed to please but because he joined couples in love.

Hope somebody learns a lesson here cz some people's love can be measured monetarily.

February 14th bullshit isn't responsible for the thief and murderers.

If he couldn't afford the clothing or gifts that he wants to give his girlfriend, he should have simply got some gifts that he could afford or write a poem expressing his love.  If the girlfriend wasn't the type of chick that appreciate the thoughts then he need to get to the stepping (too late now).

Men, you need to pick better chicks that will appreciate you and your lack of.  If you do not have the money to buy such gifts, be creative.  I don't want to hear about Nigerian girls this and Nigerian girls that.  That's bullshit and accept responsibility for the type of chick that YOU HAVE SELECTED as your mate.  No girl should lead to your DEATH especially over some stupid shit such as Valentine Day or any other day.

The mob shouldn't have killed him simply because he didn't steal from the mob, he stole from the store.  How would the mob feel if the shoe was on the other foot, would they appreciate others who have nothing to do with the incident step in and throw fire on them?  No, they wouldn't.

Jungle justice is a stupid concept made by frustrated, jobless, and hungry mofos who have NOTHING BETTER to do but go around killing people because they are pathetic.

Blaming Valentine Day will not stop ignorant arse people.  (spits)

What a shame n waste of a young life.

I hope the GF is happy, her vals gift was this young man's life.

This hopefully will address the excesses of a heavily materialistic society to some degree.

Under the influence of radio, Tv programmes, corrupt leaders who worship at the feet of excessive display of ill-gotten wealth with no apparent recompense for their negative actions, peer pressure with little or no moral support from parents or spiritual mentors, this societal decay will only get worse.

God help us all.
