I am a graduate, and at the verge of rounding up my MSc program. Currently I am in Ilorin, the capital city of Kwara state . I urgently need a teaching job in any location of the city. I have previously submitted CV in some schools around, but all are still on pending, may be due to the holidays or not. But I urge anyone with information on schools currently in need of a teacher in the town to contact me. Please help save a fellow Nairalander. Thank you. |

IMF has just presented us with the plain truth. Imagine for a nation that is a net exporter, how does appreciation of her currency translate to meaningful growth? We practically worship anything coming from outside the country. We produce rice, but foreign rice taste better for us. It is still unimaginable how a oil rich economy like ours still import refined oil. The truth is, the current foreign exchange policy is sure to collapse this economy if adequate efforts are not put to balance our frivolous desires for foreign goods. I really don't blame people who criticised IMF proposition. It just shows their level of understanding of FX. Foreign exchange policies and effects on the aggregate economy is just beyond how we perceived it to be. Nigerians are always happy when they hear naira is appreciating, but the reason for this is not justifiable. Majority of us are, because with the appreciation; we are at the liberty of demanding for more foreign goods. Tell me, how does demanding for more and more foreign goods develop your country? Yet, we hear people like that come out to say there's unemployment in the country, when ignorantly we are creating unemployment within and creating employment in other countries. Did you not know, the more foreign goods you demand, the more the incentives for such foreign companies to produce more and invariably employ more? At present naira is overvalued! Because Nigeria rarely produced capital goods to balance the FX earnings. Lastly, to know if truly the appreciation of naira is helping your so loved economy, tell us why you are so happy the naira is appreciating if not to demand for foreign goods and services in return? To a man with economic knowledge and a certified economist, what appreciation of naira does to our economy is to make our import demands cheap and make more expensive our export supplies. Thus, foreigners demand less of our products because to them it is expensive while we in return increase our import goods. Now, when this happens the domestic industries are disincentive to produce more and employ more hands. But, as bad as it is, I ll strongly recommend CBN to not only see our foreign exchange problems as purely a monetary issue, but partly structural in nature. Thus serious fiscal policies are also to be considered in form of harmonization or coordination of both monetary and fiscal policies to achieve a sustainable and long lasting foreign exchange regimes capable of inducing desired economic growth and development. Thank you. |

There's absolutely nothing more the appreciation of naira against the USD will give our economy "at the moment" aside national ego. Note the phrase " at the moment " appreciation of naira will only increase our import demand, this is because as naira value increases, our foreign goods become relatively cheaper, and knowing fully well, Nigerian's taste for foreign goods! The resultant implications are (1) it will fight against the campaign of patronising made in Nigeria goods, as our imports will increase stupendously. (2) it will kill or as it were, gradually eliminate our domestic import competing industries. And we should know, for a net export economy like Nigeria, there's no way the appreciation of naira can benefit us,... You asked why? Simple! As the naira appreciates, our exports become expensive, foreigners will demand less for our goods, and for us, import becomes cheaper. So it will be that demand for our local goods will fall, yl demand for foreign goods will increase. Now the Asian Tigers have realised this, and they have bn deliberately keeping their currency low against the USD. China was accused specifically last yr for deliberately keeping thier currency low against the dollar |

Samyj247:To make a thorough findings on the pay scale of the prospective firm. Plus, to be professional in revealing one's current pay, this can be done stylishly by only giving a salary range e.g you could say at the moment I am within a pay range of 70-100k. |
I once missed the chance of working with a reputable consulting firm on time. After the tests, went in for the interview and the last question the chairman of the panel asked was, how much do u earn with your current employer? I gladly told him. Then I waited a week, two weeks, then after three weeks of not hearing from them, I contacted the recruitment manager and was told I wasn't considered cos my current salary was higher than what they are offering. I felt so bad. Knowing there are other fringe benefits attached to working with the company. Really I felt bad. But I learnt my lesson now! |
