Keshi, though i never liked u, buh me think u're starting out well!

Nigeria Wednesday defeated Liberia 2-0 in a friendly in Monrovia ahead of a 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Rwanda.

Warri Wolves forward Sunday Mbah scored twice in the first half for the Eagles, made up of players from the Nigeria Premier League, in a game watched by Liberian president Ellen Sirlif Johnson.

Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi said after the match that this was the beginning of the rebirth of Nigerian football.

“This is just the beginning. We must go to Rwanda and win and go to any part of Africa and indeed the world to continue this good performance for the world to know that our football has seen a real rebirth,” said a delighted Keshi.

This was the Eagles coach’s fourth match in charge of the Eagles and his second win.

The Zebras of Botswana held his team to a scoreless draw in his first game in Benin City, before they defeated newly-crowned African champions Zambia 2-0 in another friendly in Kaduna.

Angola on their way to the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations were then held to a 0-0 draw by Keshi’s team of players from the NPL last month.

Keshi has said he hopes to give several players from this team a chance in his main squad beginning with a 2013 Nations Cup qualifier in Rwanda on February 29.

The list of his call-ups for his first competitive game will be made public Thursday afternoon, officials disclosed.

He is expected to drastically cut back on his Europe-based call-ups as he seeks to make players from the domestic league the bedrock of a new Super Eagles after Nigeria failed to qualify for the Nations Cup in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

Wednesday’s match at the Antoinnette Tubman Stadium in Central Monrovia was organised to mark Johnson’s inauguration as President of Liberia for a second term.

Liberia took the kick-off and took the fight to the Nigerians but desperate headers and shots from Alpha James, Martins Karadu and Isaac Pupo, were repelled by Papa Idris, Azubuike Egwueke and skipper and goalkeeper Chigozie Agbim.

The team’s first real attack paid off when Reuben Gabriel’s clever pass was neatly slotted in by Mba for the first goal in the ninth minute.

From then on, it was Nigeria all the way, as the Liberians suddenly realised that the Eagles were the better of the two sides and the packed 18,000-capacity stadium was silenced by the gallant display of the Nigerians.

And on the half hour mark, a pass from Ejike Uzoenyi, again found a lurking Mba, who coolly took his chance to further deflate the hosts.

Several other chances were created by the Nigerians, but centre referee Ebeneser Konah and his two assistants Augustine Gooding and Sylvester Johnson ensured that the Eagles did not rub more salt on their injuries with questionable off-side calls and free kicks.

SHUT UP ALREADY, SO BECAUSE WE DIDN'T GO TO THE NATIONS CUP, WE SHOULD GO AND HIDE INSIDE A CAVE? IS NOT QUALIFYING FOR THE NATIONS CUP A NEW THING?

THANK YOU KESHI, LET THE EUROPE BASED PLAYERS KNOW THAT HOME BASE CAN DO WHAT THEY COULDN'T DO.

THERE'S A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE HOME BASE OF SIASIA, AMOKACHI AND THAT OF KESHI

SIASIA FAILED WITH THE HOME BASE

AMOKACHI LIFTED THE WAFU CUP WITH THEM

WHILE KESHI IS SHOWING TO THE WORLD THAT THE HOME BASE CAN ACTUALLY WIN MATCHES IF THE RIGHT PLAYERS ARE CALLED UP.

I would ask you again! is it not part of your make up to voice your opinion without insulting people!!!

It seems like any similarity between you and human is purely coincidental.

I think we need to appreciate the fact that Keshi played home based eagles against Rwanda and Liberia and got good results. The only way to find new players to play in the main squad is by testing out ones from home.

Yes. . . Rwanda and Liberia are not GREAT teams but a result is a result. At least we know that we still have the capability to win teams with just our home based players.

what he is doing is blanding new players with old ones. the old ones will teach the newer ones how to play big games, so that once the old ones retire/ stop playing, the younger players can take over the squad.

Look at Germany for example. the coach is blending new players with old ones to give balance to the team.

Congrats Keshi to building a strong squad for the AFCON 2013
