ChinenyeN:
That's not it. It's Hnoma.

It should have been Homa by speech but Ngwas answer Iheoma in names. Iheukwumere, Iheanyi and Iheoma are very common names in Ngwa.In speech its Hwukwumere, Hweanyi and Hwoma. Only Ikwerres answer "Homa". Etche bears "Ihioma".
Re: A Database Of Traditional Igbo Names by ChinenyeN(m): 2:33am On Mar 18, 2012
You should know why Ihe shows up Ngwa. It's the same reason why you can also see Ifeanyi and Oluchi in Ngwa. Anyway, Odumchi asked for traditional names, and Homa is both the actual and traditional name in Ngwa, Etche, Ikwere, etc. Why Ngwa people continue nonsensically writing Ihe is beyond me.

Arisa (Aro) - One with good memory
Obasi (Aro/Ngwa) - God
Adaora (Nri-Awka) - daughter of the people
Ogbuefi (Nri-Awka) - cow killer (aka wealthy man)

I thought Obasi was mostly used by people from Ebonyi state.

Interesting thread, for me am writing down the names I have not been able to figure out there meaning, hoping someone might supply it:
1. Iromaka
2. Otubelu
3. Ehe-ye: this is really not a name, but a pet name for mothers. Every one called my late grandmother by that but none of them could tell me the meaning. I think the expression is from Nanka.
4. Mgbeke - I know "eke" but not the "mgbe", or could it simply mean time?
5. Apakata
6. Ezeudu
7. Ezeanaka

Then my most favourite female Igbo name:
"Mmasinachi" - this Beauty from God. Do not give a girl this name if she is not extremely beautiful, else!

@ NRI Priest
Ikemba means "the Strength of a Nation or People"

Special thanks to everyone for your contributions! Please let's find more names.

@Chinenye thanks for contributing Ngwa.

@KenGali mbe means 'when' or 'time'. It's a variant of 'oge'. I think Apakata means 'to carry all' or 'to take care of all'.

@Aringosa 'ureh' means beauty. It is found in names like 'Adure' meaning 'beautiful daughter'.

Thanks for this. I know the meanings of a few of these words.

Ihekerenma (Aro) - the thing that was beautifully created.
Ujalli (Aro) - A village in Arochukwu (Ujari) given as a name to boys.
Ivi (Aro) - possibly a short form of 'Ivuoma'. It's the Aro equivalent of Ify. It could also mean 'cleaner' or 'one who makes straight'. I'm not too sure.
Nwaji (Aro) - I'm not too sure about this one. I think it means 'yam farmer' or 'the child has'.
Owuu (Aro) - it is not so. I think it's a short form of 'Owumomere'.
Anyanechi (?) - the eye should look to God.
Aniche (Aro) - I forgot this word's meaning. Funny thing is it was my grandfather's name. I will inquire and will supply you with a meaning ASAP.

Here are some other names:
Inyama (Aro) - do you people know?
Ukpabi (Aro) - name of an oracle given to boys.
Njoku (Aro/wider Igbo) - I'm not too sure also.

These are incidentally among my favorite Ngwa names. The Chinturu/Chintua names are among the few "Chi" names that I would ever name my children.

I think it depends on how you pronounce it. Could mean it wasn't me who did it, or it was me who did it (I did it). What a name.
