This topic started from the discussion in my office based on the myriad of problems facing Nigeria ,especially from the perspective of leadership. We came up with the following qualities: 1.A man ready to lay down his life 2 A man who would have shipped his family to a remote country to avoid a backlash effect of his action. . 3 A man ready to issue a public disclaimer of friends and relatives. 4.A man who is absolutely faithful to his wife 5. A man that enjoys fasting and doesn't drink,to avoid being poisoned. 6 A man that hates parties and would never eat outside. 7 A man that is Godly that believes and trusts in God . 8 A man that surrounds himself with men of prayer 24/7 8. Lastly a man a clear goal of what he wants to achieve. Please be free to add your own.

such men have been in power many a time and yet failed MISERABLY!!!

IMHO, the right man for change is one that A) believes with all his might in rebuilding NIGERIA first and foremost B) who is ready to push laws that will deter anyone from bribing/looting the coffers (punishable by death would surely help) C) someone ready to RIGHT the wrongs that have been done in the past (some contracts signed by past head of states have be to nullified a la Chavez) D) someone not afraid to stand up against foreign gov who have their hands DEEP in 9ja's pocket (however big their bribe may be) E) someone who has future generations in mind when rebuilding the country, rather than his own selfish agenda (and that of friends) AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, someone ready to do whatever it takes to bring 24hrs electricity back to Nigerians NOW...... not forgetting a man with no religious affiliations who will equally help and support the Muslim or Christian side of Nigeria.

A man that will push vehemently for death penalty for corrupt government officials and will start with a man from his constituency. He should also set a target of killing at least 800 government officials a month before things calm down

No single man can save Nigeria. We need to tear the system down.

Even Che Guevara would have been defeated by the evil Nigerian system. The damn thing needs to be turn down and rebuilt from scratch. The best any leader can do is help the process, but it is ultimately down to the people; each and every one of us. How badly do we want to kick out of slavery?

Kobo why?
You dont just drop a line like this and leave?
Oya tell us the qualities you think our president should have.

In my own humble opinion i think we dont need all of the above in a man before change can happen.

@poster, you are asking for too much. Even the system itself has ripped people of all these qualities. You have to let go all those qualities before you can survive in Nigeria today.

THE SYSTEM NEEDS REVOLUTION!!!

A President who would come to power on a clean, rigging free ballot.

Who will ensure constant power supply on assuming Office.

Convict all past curropt leaders and Officials, recover their looted funds and make it our reserve instead of their own.
Must have WELFARW on Nigerians at heart.

We really don't need a perfect man or someone close. Once we have a good constitution that's adhered strictly by people in government and a system that intensively punishes anyone that is found to be dubious, then people will behave themselves.

Re: Qualities Of A Man That Will Change Nigeria by kodewrita(m): 10:42am On Mar 20, 2012
A pragmatic man/woman who:

1) realises that drastic change as expected by nigerians may not be sustainable.
2) knows how to achieve swift quick wins to solve small easily solvable problems.
3) has a track record of finishing what he/she starts before jumping off to solve others.
4) knows how to shoulder public attacks without seeming flustered or petty.
5) who knows how to handle the press without crushing them with the SSS or hiding from them.
6) who knows how to bring irreversible change in a day-by-day slow but assured manner ( boiling the frog by increasing the temp steadily) without letting public opinion rise so high as to oppose him/her or stop his/her policies).
7) who understands the different faultlines on which nigeria is built and knows how to use those to his/her benefit and the benefit of all nigerians.
cool who is willing to shed blood appropriately in the service of the nation to keep order.
9) who has a history of recruiting people smarter than him/her to handle critical posts.
10) who is prepared to accept small political defeats in the service of greater long term strategic victory.
11) refrains from making public unconfirmed statements without information.
12) keeps critical information between his ears when necessary or is exceptionally open when the need arises.
13) who is able to swiftly identify cliques/enemies/negative stakeholders and take decisive action to smash them before they constitute a threat to the state.
14) has built up diverse networks: political, business, tribal to ensure his/her unassailability.

Essentially: A well-connected charismatic, pragmatic, media-savvy, decisive, wise, resolute and patient reformer with a thick skin.

Even if you find the person with the qualities listed , you will never vote for him unless he is from your tribe . So mediocrity and misrule continues.
