Gtbank is a bank I love for their impressive service, mostly the technology-backed ones. For the past couple of months I've been recieving emails after emails to signup for the SMS service. Well, I decided long ago not to re-apply for the service after I applied and it was not implemented. I used their internet service quite alright. I use the internet to follow my account transaction at all times.

When they started the SMS notification system years ago, it was reasonable at N10/message. Now that Moore's Law has taken care of the cost, I think it's only reasonable for Gtbank to reduce the cost to something like N3. Since we can now get SMS at N1 through bulk SMS. What do you guys think?

What we think here won't bring it down to N3 like u proposed. U need to make ur voice heard by the management.I dont like the idea of charging 10Bucks personally, but its optional isn't it? u could opt out if u dont like their charges or go tell em how u feel.Cheerz

They charge N10 per sms even if you buy N100 worth of airtime from the ATM. They are all thieves I hope some of their staff are reading this.

I opted out some months ago due to the abnormal amount they charge for sms and requested for e-mail notification since its free but i still receive sms notification on a daily basis.

Atleast N5 is still reasonable.

First bank charge N10 too.

MR. MAN LOOK, SIMPLY BECOUSE YOU LIVE ON OR BELOW A DOLLAR PER DAY DOES NOT GENERALISE TO EVERYBODY. THEREFORE, CARRY YOUR WAHALA GO SUFFER.

If you own a smartphone I don't see the need for SMS alerts which you pay for since you can receive email notifications which are free.

My transactions are immediately reported by email which I receive on my smartphone in about a minute.

The typical talk of a motor park tout.So because u or ur father is rich, the price of things should now sky-rocket uncontrollable without people challenging them? So service providers should now charge whatever they like because ur father is rich? I understand from ur comment, that either u or ur father must be stinking of wealth, but in ur infinite selfishness & stupidity, pls remember that there are also people who N10 means a lot to, especially when it compounds at the end of the year where u would have ended up paying N1000 or more on sms notification.

Same thing happened to me, i was receiving just the email alert and then one day they sent me a message that my account has been profiled for receiving sms. The first week N100 was deducted from my acount because i made 10 transactions, i went to one of their branches to give them a piece of my refined mind. I was asked to fill an indemnity form which they sent to their head office and the sms thing stopped.

I bank with GTB and have told them not to send me sms notifications. Email is okay.
Recently however, they made it mandatory for everyone to be send sms notifications, whether you requested it or not.
I complained and complained and even filled the indemnity form that I DO NOT want to be sent sms. What irks me more is the N10 knowing that they are making at least N8 profit off me per sms.

Apparently many other people complained too for...

Thankfully a few days ago, they sent me this email:

"RE: GENS - YOU SPOKE, WE LISTENED

Thank you for maintaining a banking relationship with Guaranty Trust Bank plc.

Our sincere objective has always been to provide you with memorable banking experiences and ensure you perform your transactions safely, conveniently and quickly. This commitment influenced our decision in February 2012 to sign on all customers for the Guaranty Trust Electronic SMS Notification Service (GeNS), which:

Ensures real time knowledge about your financial position and transactions
Enables you immediately identify and report all fraudulent / unauthorized transactions on your account
Feedback from our various channels however indicate that stakeholders would prefer to retain the choice to sign up for the service. Kindly note that we take such stakeholder feedback seriously and constantly appreciate knowledge about your reactions to our numerous service improvement efforts.

Consequently, we have delisted all customers that did not personally request for the GTBank GeNS service from enjoying SMS transaction alerts going forward.

GeNS is an innovative offering that sends instant SMS notifications to your phone, whenever there are transaction(s) on your account(s). These alerts capture details of each transaction, your account balances and provide an effective channel to identify fraudulent transactions on your account.

To request for this service, please visit any Guaranty Trust Branch nationwide. Please note that each SMS alert costs N10.00 (Ten Naira) only.

We appreciate your patronage and invite you to also visit our website www.gtbank.com for more details about our numerous products and service offerings.

For further enquiries please call GTConnect, our 24 hours fully interactive self service centre on 0700 GTCONNECT (0700 482666328), 01-448 0000, 0803 900 3900 or 0802 900 2900.

Thank you.

That's a relief!

Recently
I was at a GTB in Wuse 2 Abuja to deactivate my SMS alert and I was given an indemity form to fill but as I was about to submit the filled form;the CS officer told me that am I aware that it will be deactivated together with my internet banking?... I asked why she told me that is the new policy of the bank now. I wonder if it is by force to get SMS alert. Abeg lets unite to stop this SMS extortion by GTB. Now I am afraid I might be charge up to 2k on SMS alone this March let alone COT.

It happened last year too and I had to call and call then fill and scan a couple of forms and I'm not prepared for any of that now, I also got the "YOU SPOKE, WE LISTENED " e-mail, I haven't used my card since then so I don't know if they have deactivated it yet, but I only received 2 sms alerts last month (in fact just those 2 in over 12 months) and I was charged for God knows how many. angry angry

True! I receive same e-mails but discarded it since I get alerts via email and online banking it pointless subscribing to their pricey sms alert!
Re: Gtbank SMS Service Is Too Expensive At N10 #gtbanksms by deekseen(m): 4:02pm On Mar 25, 2012
I've never been billed for sms notifications before. Even when it was deactivated and i asked them to reactivate it not a dime was billed me for notifications. I know they stated they would deduct N10 per sms but i don't truly think they do that. I see my transactions statement at the end of every month, i get some interests on my balance instead.
Re: Gtbank SMS Service Is Too Expensive At N10 #gtbanksms by Nobody: 9:42am On Mar 26, 2012
All banks charge N10. Which is relatively high. But wetin man go do. I love not having to go to the bank or the atm before i know if money has been paid in.
