Now calling what our forebears have been eating for ages POISON is being uncharitable.

if you are unlucky to have had a harrowing about experience with Amala because an old Auntie got it all wrong, sorry about that. But please, move on. forget about polluting other people`s minds about this ``i hate the stuff``

[b]If my description was offensive, I am not too big to apologize, but that was just to let you know how much i hate it, but once again, I am sorry.
Now, could we shake hands and be happy?
When do u expect a deal from you, cos i wanna be your dealer too . . . wink

Amala (food)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Àmàlà is a thick brown paste or porridge made from yam skin, which had been peeled, cleaned, dried and then blended into a flour.[1] It is eaten in West Africa, primarily among the Yorùbá of Nigeria. Àmàlà is made by slicing yam which is a very popular vegetable in Nigeria, drying and grinding it into yam flour which is then sieved and processed into amala by mixing the powder into boiling water and stirring it to a desired texture. It could be served with a variety of ọbẹ (soup), such as ẹfọ, ilá, ewédú, or gbegiri (black-eyed beans soup).

[edit] Types

There are generally two types of àmàlà. One is àmàlà iṣu, which is derived from sliced, dried, ground and processed yams tubers into yam powder. When this processed yam powder is added to hot water, it gradually turns into a black/brown dough. This can be eaten with a variety of soups (ọbẹ) and vegetables (ẹfọ).

There is another type of àmàlà derived from cassava tubers and referred to as àmàlà láfún. This is commonly eaten among the Yorùbá. The cassava tubers are peeled, dried, ground and sieved to remove any shafts or lumps. This type of àmàlà will usually become a white dough when added to water.

fhemmmy,
looking back in retrospect, i almost hated amala too years back when i lived in lagos. the common practice was to dry rotten yam and dead yam skin in the sun which is later ground unto flour and used to prepare amala. it was so appalling and you could see it everywhere! tell me what nutrient man can get from rotten yam?
unfortunately as we speak the practice still thrives in a lot of our commercial centres! grin
