Nigeria: Jonathan to Reshuffle Cabinet
By Dave Oludare Oso, 7 May 2012

INDICATIONS that President Goodluck Jonathan may reshuffle his cabinet has emerged, The Moment has learnt.

Among the people being considered by the president in a list he sent to the State Security Services for screening are former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo; ex-Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuemeka Ezeife; former Special Adviser on the Niger Delta, Mr. Timi Alaibe, former Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), Hamisu Mai Rago; the immediate past acting National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Kawu Baraje.

Others are former PDP National Publicity Secretary, Prof. Rufai Alkali; former PDP National Organising Secretary, Uche Secondus; former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Ada Okwuonu and former PDP National Legal Adviser, Olusola Oke.

The screening of the nominees, The Moment learnt will begin this week.

Expectedly, intense lobbying has started by both the serving ministers, who wants to retain their seats and the aspiring ministers.

According to our source, the people have started lobbying the National Chairman, Dr. Bamanga Tukur and other key figures in the Peoples Democratic Party like Chief Tony Anenih, a former Chairman of the party's board of trustees and Chief Edwin Clark, a respectable South-South leader.

The nomination of Alaibe, according to The Moment's findings, is generating most anxieties in government circles, as people are curious of what will become the fate of Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Deziani Allison, who like Alaibe, is from Bayelsa, the President's home state, since only one nominee can emerge from the state.

Alison-Madueke was appointed by the late President Umar Yar'Adua as a minister in 2007, and like Dr. Shamsudeen Usman, the Minister of National Planning, who was appointed by Jonathan in 2010, may not retain her position, just as others in the 2010 class; Ruqayyat Rufai (Education), Segun Aganga (Trade and Investment), Caleb Olubolade (Police Affairs)Bala Muhammed (Federal Capital Territory) and Emeka Wogu (Labour.)

It is also expected that the President will remove his National Security Adviser (NSA), General Andrew Azazi (retd.) and replace him with Ekpeyong Ita, the current Director-General of State Security Service, (SSS.)

The PDP was embarrassed by the statement credited to the NSA that the party was responsible for the Boko Haram crisis and insecurity in the country and has been putting pressure on the President to replace him (Azazi.)

Nothing wrong with reshuffling if it keeps the ministers on their toes. But Mr President, can you at least pick competent people that will actually work this time so you don't have to reshuffle the week after this reshuffle. Note: reshuffling does not count as achievement! . . . it just, . . . . . it just reaally doesn't count . . . . really doesn't.

This clearly shows the development in this country is still many light years away, if going by the list of potential ministerial appointments detailed in the report.

Indeed. I would also like to now get the opinion of those, starting from the OP, who claimed shamefully and disgracefully that GEJ is "reforming" the PDP.

The dismissal of Sylva and the imposition of Dickson is certainly reform. Not so?

60 year old "youth leader" is also inspirational reform as is the return of geriatrics like Bamanga Tukur and many others. I think the only thing honest folks will see is a clueless President promoting deleterious elements , long past their sell-by date, into influential positions in a regressive manner even a madman will never call "reform".

If you like make Albert Einstein a Minister under this clueless government the story would still be the same. Governance is about setting the 'tone at the top'. As someone once said, Jonathan appears a blind man crossing Third mainland bridge unaided.

I've always known that our National Recycle Bin is super active, always busy. What has this crop of people got to offer again? It seems Edwin Clark's name was ommitted from this list, and that Ezeife is being settled cos he has made so much noise about Igbo Presidency in 2015. Nwodo that was not fit to lead the PDP, is now being found worthy to head a national ministry. Shame on this nation.
