I subscribed to Internet banking with all banks i have accounts with. i have been doing transfers and i have not recorded any fraud on any of my accounts. Though i am conscious and at times i feel i'll be hacked because Nigerian Internet security is zero.

Just give it a trial. You can't be moving huge cash all the time you know!

You should have less concern on your end
Have long password and user name
don't share your password and user name
Don't respond to email from the bank
Type your link on the web page every time (like citybank.com)
Don't use people's computer to connect to the bank
They might have log keystrokes installed on their computer
people are like to hack into the bank systems than your but
Your system might be use as a jump off launch the attack
Be very careful of download and attachment sent to you
Have antivirus software installed on your computer and make sure you update your antivirus
Have spyware cleaner installed

@hrhobi1, Why do you insult people for no just cause or are you one of the yahoo guys? if you do not have any advice to give, why not move on? or are you afraid your secrets and techniques will be exposed? You have only succeeded in exposing yourself.

Access Bank as at today has the best internet banking model.I was surprised myself and for your information you will create your username and password yourself and you will do all transactions on their self service platform.I was pessimistic at first when they took over Intercontinental bank. You will feel safer also and they are even better than GTB because I also bank with GTB and the difference is the simplicity and safety.

Definitely not safe especially becaue most Nigerians only have access to shared internet access which makes them vulnurable to hackers.

. There is no safety at all. I have lost N406,300 since 2010 with Union Bank, nothing happened even a transfer of N210k was made on the account still nothing happened, have written series of letter to the branch, head office and CBN nothing happened.

Well Noting is safe anywhere in the world as IT Security Professional my advice to you is first safe guard your self by not being ignorant , for example going to porn sites , Clicking unnecessary ads on the internet , Links which are not link to GTB no secured sign on it but have GTB pages do not fill any information . for those who use Antivirus run regular updates .

But i would say with Nigerian banks bring token into there banking system makes it a lot safer if the token is not comprised by insider giving the guy outside how it works , so it is safe for now.

people using free email address , yahoo , gmail , hotmail be very careful on what you click on facebook or emails sent to you as html extension , there are a lot of scenario all you to do is being careful, most basic hacking doesn't require technical skills but social engineering which entails the bad guy convincing the good guy to do what he wants to get what he needs . with high level of hacking , you can be hacked any day any time but you just need to be careful on what you click and open on the internet

GTB is ok , that's the only internet banking i have used and i don't go bank most time , i do my transactions online , the only problem is the interface is not well designed

Sorry, I have seeing token compromised
You manage risk, nothing is secured like you said
Problems are not from email address but download and attachment

Does is make it harder to discourage hackers

If you are not an Internet Savvy person, here is a tip for you:

Open both a Savings Account and a Current Account with the same Bank.

Leave most of your Cash in your Current Account with no Internet Banking or ATM Facility.

Activate Internet Banking on Your Savings and only fund it with Cash just enough for your Online Transactions.

God Bless

Nothing is safe and secured on the INTERNET .,It's you that is using the internet that can secure your own information not anti virus or other software's and hardware's

1). don't give out your mobile phone you use in logging in to your internet banking account for someone to type is # into it because the person can just send money out of your account and also delete the debit text message right in front of you , theirs a way it's being done first the person mostly ladies , it happened to my friend this lady collected his phone in the brt bus to type her # in it , instead she went to the ringtone volume reduce the volume to 0 and went straight to the guy browser found the GTB and send out money because the cookies and cache are still stored there and most cases some people save there login details in the draft message which is very bad , you see how my friend lost 50k from OSHODI to IYANAPAJA the gal alighted .

2). don't check your online banking account at cyber cafes because there are password stealers in all cyber cafes ,.I MEAN IT ALL if you think its a lie ask Cyber cafe engineers they know how to view people's details through the private computer that controls the rest

3). don't give out your details through emails or text messages or phone calls

4). INSIDERS the worst, insiders means people working inside the bank they can steal your money themselves .,am sure you don't believe this but any banker that read this knows their are crooks among them ., example you won't see any banker leave its own system open for 1 minute without being there because his fellow colleagues can use his own computer to send money out of someones account to another place since the person whose computer they use will be held responsible and some others go to the bank earlier than others to insert a pen key logger at the back of other colleagues pc and they do the rest on another pc

Most bankers are crooks ask those that receive western union control all the time , if you enter the wrong bank the cashier will tell you the money had already being picked whereas he picked it up or he says match not found immediately you step out he process it and cash it

5). HACKERS , hackers can hack into any website at anytime if they really want to hack the website and they make it as target ,they'll keep watching over it till the right time comes , right time means maybe when the bank is upgrading their system and all necessary security software are not yet installed .,recently CHASE BANK was hacked and the hackers stole over 1000 people's identity ., this can also happen at anytime to any NIGERIA BANKS

OVERALL the internet is not safe , Only you the user can secure yourself

Sorry but doesnt that mean the Lady's bank details and all would be right there in his statement, making it very easy for her to be reported to the bank and the police? And also I dont think that such vital information would be cached, i have to input in my login details every single time on GTB's Ib site

Most people have their login details save as draft and the account the gal sent the money to was her own account because the bank provide picture of her when she withdrew the money through atm and sorry sir if you think if someone sent out your money you can trace him or her with the account that is a foul!!! You can open almost 10 intercontinental or first bank account with any identity and wrong details!!!! .fraudsters are always a step ahead

Even the more advanced countries still have occasional problems with internet banking so there is nowhere you can get a guaranteeed 100% security.

I do believe the risks outweigh the benefit, as long as you take all the precautions other posters have listed: avoid questionable websites, use only ONE personal system with a fully updated PAID (not free) antivirus to access your online acc, NEVER on a cybercafe or shared computer, and so on.
