Seun:

And that is precisely what DSTV is.  It's a subscription-based service. Are we completely dumb or just intolerant?  As a regulator, the only change I might require of DSTV is to activate the parental control service by default.

Probably both.

If parental control is activated by default, then the hypocrites will find another bogus claim e.g a documentary on the Koma (the naturists) people was not properly rated!

RIGHT! RIGHT!! RIGHT!!!

When are we going to REEEALLY know our right from our left?
It's good to go back to the Stone Ages where we make the Privates public and Nubian beauties walk the street in their Birthday suits but I'm almost (almost o) sure that even in that crude state, copulation was done hiddenly.

I'm with Kobojunkie on all this, if any station wishes to broadcast pornography, they should have a special license to it and let those who want to watch it do so.

Big Brother Africa had no aim whatsoever and if what went down was not Porn plus more, texapete, what was it?? and the producers were damn smart to have made the inmates, sorry, roommates to sign that they would not be sued, no matter what happened in the 89 days' period. That's your Right at work, innit? grin

Senators might have hidden agenda or not but whatever, Right is being propagated.

Just for the record

I don't watch BB neither have i ever bothered to because i consider it a waste of time and i don't even care if it is banned

But for people to come here an say things like Africa has "morals" and "culture" and westerners don't requires the willing suspension of disbelief to agree with that.

In the most pathetic continent on earth, where intolerance of the right of others to do what you don't approve off is the watch word, bodies litter the road, jungle justice and extreme violence reeks the streets, 7yr old children hawk on highways, incessant conflicts and bloodshed, self inflicted poverty and oppression on the masses, little economic advancement and corruption fully part of the society and human life is cheaper than chicken, i wonder what in the world makes anybody think that the most backward continent on earth has more culture and "morals" than others

What would scare the mind of a person more?

People set ablaze alive or cut to piecies in public and there corpses left to roast on the street, Law enforcement using their uns to smash peoples skulls in public, bribery and corruption as a way of life even in the highest places, poverty and death, bloody rituals, incesant conflicts OR BBA

The above clearly showcases why Africa is where it is now, and why it would always remain like that.

Thank you!

Lets keep fooling ourselves that Africa is synonymous to so-called morals that we keep hovering about us; that a TV programme is enough to portray her bad.

If u know the kind of things MNET showed why subscribe with the channel in the first place.
It doesnt take a tv programmes to make anyone a pervert; or before u know what is right and what not.  Its your attitude.

whether BBA is rated 16L or 10000000L is not the issue. The house mates have not gone there to show us their private parts. Underage watch BBA so nudity is simply out of it. This is a programme the entire family watches so why so their nudity? This is rubbish. There is supposed to be some sense of decency from the organizers. At least, the shower hour should be kept out of camera. MultiChoice should not be allowed to air this rubbish again for her Nigerian viewers.
Re: NBC Bans Airing Of Big Brother Africa (BBA) In Nigeria! by hannydarl(f): 10:14pm On Nov 20, 2007
come to think of it, the problem is not m net but the africans who went into the house to do all the stuff that was done in the house.if africans resppect culture soo much why did those africans not show it in the bba2 house?if they had shared bathe time between males and females and if they had kept off kissing and F, ing shamelesly then i would blame biggy for showing them nude to the world in their private time cos it is clear to me that if biggy had not shown the shower time the house mates will bring their nudity to the living room.

Re: NBC Bans Airing Of Big Brother Africa (BBA) In Nigeria! by DozieGlad: 8:31pm On Nov 24, 2007
I am happy that I do not have to look far to see the most uninformed individuals in Nairaland, this post brought out the idiocy in some of the posters here.
Some do not actually know what is TV rating, the reason of TV rating, public broadcasting and private broadcasting. Big brother Africa is an insult to Africans and another Umhlanga Reed dance that we all should condemn in its totality. Look all around the whole world, which continent or country allows such pornography in its air wave. Upon the simple fact that we are the most backward continent, where others are coming up with new technologies daily, we are here promoting pornography. Most of the posters here are perverts and do need medical attention. I have watched cable television in about 13 countries in the West and none allows such pornography in its airwave, be it pay television or free television. If you do want to watch pornography buy a dvd, that a programme is rated 18 or 16 does not mean that it shouldn't be controlled, it only means that parental control is adviced which in itself does not mean that the programme should not be censored to meet up with basic protection for individuals viewing it. Big brother Africa is a good concept programme but there should be a limit to what is tapped or what is aired. The NBC is right to ban the programme and the Senate is definitely right in banning the programme. Pervert craves of certain individuals should not override common sense, family security and values. The banning of BBA came late, I was expecting that it should have been banned a lot earlier. Moral values is not something to be compromised, be it in Africa or any where else. MNET action is criminal in nature and they should be made to pay for bringing such a programme over our air wave. Cable TV is new in Africa, some countries have had it for a long time and they do still censor the programmes being screened. Perverts like Richard and Ofunneka should not be shown or be seen as a role model to African youths but a clear reference to the decadence that is creeping into Africa, they are all a shame to the continent that gave them birth. Taking part in Pornographic dvd shootings would have been a more decent, paying vocation for them. That Ofunneka want\s to sue Richard is an after thought and realization of the shame she brought to herself. If I could happen to be the judge of that suit I will definitely commit her to prison not minding that it is a Civil suit.
Re: NBC Bans Airing Of Big Brother Africa (BBA) In Nigeria! by cecegorz(m): 11:11am On Nov 26, 2007
I think the issue here is that the promoters of the show allowed a debased, irresponsible young man to win the show, and thereby making him a hero and a model to the young ones.
this leaves much to be desired but we still have to understand that you cannot 'BAN' a satellite TV program. only a terestrial TV program can be banned.
Whoever watched BBA2 definitely subscribed to it and that makes it a CHOICE and not by default.
If they want to really make a change, i think what they should do is to lobby other African parliaments so they can challenge DSTV/MNET on why such a villain should be made a role model for African youths.

Re: NBC Bans Airing Of Big Brother Africa (BBA) In Nigeria! by gr8child(m): 3:14pm On Nov 26, 2007
Arguments against the ban:

a. The show is rated 16 and the DSTV decoder has a parental control device, so, what's the problem. If match sticks are dangerous in the hands of children, you don't ban 'em, you move them to a safe place or warn your kids not to touch them or else.

b. If the Senators really want to stop exposing our kids to porn (properly so called), they might like to consider doing something about the guys selling 20 in 1 pornographic dvds on the streets. Methinks the kids have easier access to these dvds than even to porn on the internet.

c. We are not a nation full of children but a nation of both adults and children, so I don't see why I should be subjected to watching programmes fit only for children if children should not be subjected to watching programmes fit only for adults. And no, I don't want to watch family oriented programmes always either. As an adult I should be able to decide what I can handle and turn off the tv if I don't like what I see.

d. Personally, I think all this is just bad belle cos Ofuneka didn't win. Abi why did they wait for the show to be over before they started shouting. Everything that was to be seen, has been seen. grin

This senators are not normal people as far as democracy is concernd in Nigeria. what is their concrete reason for banning it? are they not the ultimate womanisers? arent they the one's chasing our age-mates out there? thats not a welcomed development. angry

For everyone clamoring for a ban on BBA, please, please let me live in your world where, apparently, every other problem has been solved, leaving you with so much time on your hands to begin to worry about inanities like Big Brother Africa.

Peace Out.
Re: NBC Bans Airing Of Big Brother Africa (BBA) In Nigeria! by cabali(m): 8:14am On Nov 30, 2007
all these hipocrites. MNET isn't free. BBA is by choice. everyone knows abt BBA it isn't a moral show. u keep hidden cameras in a room and expect to see what? prayer sessions? we know it won't be so if we had cams in ur houses.

BB has never been for every-viewing. so if u can't stand it, change channels or subscribe to TBN period.
the housemates know what it means to be in the game.

ur girl knew she can get Hot and she got herself locked up for 90 days with plan not to hump? after I saw the video clip, I knew how much of a bad girl she is lol.

u guys make me sick
Re: NBC Bans Airing Of Big Brother Africa (BBA) In Nigeria! by Nobody: 8:48am On Nov 30, 2007
In as much as i love Big brother and i love following the show, i think they have started overdoing this whole thing, first things first, there is no need to show shower hour or housemates seeing themselves naked. This will definately lead to all kinds of attractions and lust. Big Brother Nigeria was the bomb and no Shower hour or sex scenes were aired. This guys in BBA2 really overdeed the whole thing and i wonder what will happen in the next BBA show.

Re: NBC Bans Airing Of Big Brother Africa (BBA) In Nigeria! by RAPHIK: 1:47pm On Dec 06, 2007
I am not being parochial here, we shld evolve things that can help us grow, western life is not african. Indescent things shld be discouraged to enable the family vaues we have to still be strong. Big brother africa reality show does not teach morals and lacks direction in entirety, hence shld be banned.
