shymmex: The plane was definitely blown up in the air...

The story is too unreal to be true..

Are you for real? Have you followed history of plane crashes in Nigeria? Government claim the sector is regulated but I can tell you it's not.
The planes are just too old and not air worthy.

I HAVE NEVER felt comfortable using local flights in Nigeria. I'm a Nigerian and sadly i'm aware of just how lax safety/maintainance issues are in this country. If not for the issue of insecurity, bad roads and a decrepit rail network, many people would have been travelling by road or rail; but the arseholes in gov't that should have solved these problems over the decades have elected to ignore them since they have the money to travel by air to wherever in Nigeria.

If you're one of the people that have played a part in Nigerias present dire situation, no matter where you are or how rich you are (once you live in this country) somehow/somewhere/sometime the problems we face that you have helped sustain and think you can insulate yourself from, will come round full circle and catch up with you. Just pray you survive the ordeal.

And to think they're talking of bringing nuclear power stations to Nigeria. Abeg, not in my backyard undecided angry.

May the souls of the departed rest in peace (i've been saying this prayer a lot these past few months sad).

Of course no Nigerian station would carry it - an indication of how sick the country is. The leaders are busy looting money. The Nigerian roads are death traps. The airspace are no safer. People wanna get richer at all cost, even if it means putting old death traps in the air.

The country is sick and the leaders do not care. The people actually do not care for it as well.

God be with the families.

Nigeria is a dangerous to live in. It is like a land mine, out of pure negligence. I will rather walk from lagos to onitsha than travel by air in a nigerian managed aircraft in nigeria.

stop watching hollywood movies. A plane can perish on self weight alone. Do you know the resulting gravity effect on that metal bird? Besides, it was reported to have crashed on 2-storey building.

enitan2002:

A plane at that point is flying less than 230knots, and its about 3,500ft......do the maths, what could have happened for a whole passengers in the aircraft to have perished.

I'm sick and tired of the way we tolerate mediocrity in nigeria even in fragile sectors as aviation. Situations like these are highly avoidable if the authorities were doing their jobs! Its a shame we didn't learnt our lessons during the sosoliso and bellview crashes a few years back.
The cause of this crash can't be far fetched- its either the plane was faulty or the pilot wasn't experienced enough. What else might have caused it, if not for mediocre standards? The weather was fair, so you cant blame the weather.
If we continue to celebrate mediocrity, incidents like these would occur again in the future, but at what cost? The blood of innocent citizens? This country is not moving forward because of mediocrity, injustice, corruption and tribalism. We need to change
RIP to all the passengers and consolations to their loved ones.

The sad thing is that because of how deranged the Nigerian system is, we may never know the true cause of the crash. The intelligence system is inept and compromised. No lessons learnt, no investigation and the killing continues.

Sad.

It isn't about the spot, even if the plane is in distress.. The pilot can still control a plane in distress to crash land in a safer place...

What math? Your figures are off, 3,500 ft or 30,000 ft (which is the norm for such flights)

Anyways tragedies happen and they are not always as a result of enemy action. Suggesting that this is a work of terror at this point is unwise. Let's wait till all the facts are available.

So sad!!! We don't value human life in this country, we make laws for our own safety yet because of corruption such laws are not enforced. Some of the planes flying in Nigeria are not fit for such purpose. We put some many stuffs in the hands of God, yet he does not exist.

In one of my numerous trips to Enugu some years back (Enugu airport was closed for rehabilitation at the time) so I had to take a flight to Owerri. It was a terrible moment all of life. At a point, the plane was shaking and the tension in people eyes could be seen even with closed eyes. For once, I was confronted with death at a close range. Even at a point, the beautiful chick beside me that was proven difficult to get had to hold tighly and shout Jesus countless time. I was sweating seriously. Indeed, it can't just be a nice way to die.

Now, we are here typing, discussing and invoking all manner of religious mantra that "God should save some of them". Well, I hope it does but unfortunately he does not exist. What can be of help is emergency response in reasonable time. Doctors not only at their desks but also on hand to respond to the critically injured and not doctors who are so happy to say sorry, but we are on strike.

while you have made some points, did you intentionally include the bolded part to spark off religious arguments or do you have a Logical, axiomatic proof for your assertion? Well, it is easy to say that your pop's sper.m fertilized your mum's ovum. Dude, keep your opinion to yourself. This is a public forum and you should know better than include such controversial comments in your compositions.
