Lately, there have been an upsurge in cult-related activities in different tertiary institutions, as well as, notable towns and cities. Within the last one week, there have been cult strikes at Ilorin (Kwara), Okada Town (Edo) and now, Enugu. Are we gradually sliding back to the dark era of cultism and general lawlessness?

By Ozioma Ubabukoh, Enugu

Traders and customers at Artisan Market in Enugu on Sunday fled different directions when three men suspected to be cultists shot dead an unidentified man inside the market.

Students living close to the market told our correspondent that the victim, believed to be a student of Enugu State University of Technology, might have been killed by rival cult members.

It was learnt that seven students had been killed since Friday when the hoodlums went on a killing spree.

An undergraduate of the university was said to be among those killed in the city.

It was learnt that the deceased was trailed by his killers to Achara Layout and shot him.

An eyewitness said the boys who killed him called him on the telephone, and as soon as he picked the call, they fired shots at him.

The source said, “They came on a motorbike and parked at a distance. The deceased was drinking at joint and a call came into his phone; as soon as he stepped out to answer the call his assailants shot at him.

“I think they made the call to ensure that he was the one; as soon as he picked the call they shot him in the stomach. When he fell down, they came close and shot him twice on the head and he died instantly.”

Another man was shot dead inside his shop on Ogui Road and those who killed him fled the scene on a motorbike.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Enugu, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, said, “We are on top of the situation. We are working to ensure that we stop these cult-related killings. We would soon speak to the press."

The Ogui Rd dude's own is sickening. Right in the presence of his mother. I know that dude never suspected he was a cultist and he's already been out of sch for about two years now.
SMH. I just feel for the poor mother and the elder brother who was my friend.

When the Head is Bad the Body can't function properly.

A weak Leadership = Bomb blasts, indiscriminat public shootings, armed robberies, militancy, highest levels of corruption, impunity, poverty growing, ethnic violence, religious violence, & now cultism is back in full force.

This is wwhat Nigeria has sadly turnedd τ̅o ssince Goodluck Ebele Jonathan's led government came in .

Safety is guaranteed nowhere, but other federal governments are actually concerned about the well-being of their citizenry, unlike the FG of Nigeria.

Nigeria's over-population issue naturally sorting itself out.
Word is, no one ever gets shot in school for reading too much, moving wit d right crowd and being a little bit close to God.
Its only those dat belong or dat foolishly associate visibly wit dis guys dat get hit, aside d collateral damages of such HIT.
Dia parents should take heart, but dis simply translates to less competition in d labour mkt for d serious students wen they graduate.
