He noted that there were more unemployed females than males in Anambra, Bayelsa, Ekiti, Enugu and Osun states

Basing the data on geo-political zones, the DG said the North-West has the highest figure of 846,872 unemployed persons, followed by the South-West with 718,789 unemployed persons. The North Central zone recorded the lowest figure with 386,590 unemployed persons.

Adelodun, while disclosing that about 39 percent of the registered unemployed had been in such condition for the past five years, said about 74 percent of the registered unemployed persons are youths between 15 and 34 years

"About 74 percent of the registered unemployed persons are youths in the age bracket of 15 and 34 years, the adults between ages 35 and 44 represent about 17.24 percent while the elderly of aged 45 to 70 constitute about 9 per cent," he added.

Adelodun, who called on the government to improve the funding for the NDE job creation activities, urged the states to partner with the directorate in creating wealth for unemployed Nigerians.

3 million Nigerians unemployed!

Right, then I'm the Pope!!! Germany, a country of 82 million has around 5 million people unemployed and Nigeria, a nation of 140+ million has 3 million people unemployed. The country has no thriving middle class, the industries are not functioning, infrastructure is non-existent.

I think we all know that a whole load of nonsense. With the amount of graduates from the various Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education and the rest of them without jobs, we have only 3 million people unemployed? Then Nigeria is doing really well cry sad

The NDE should do a proper survey and review their figures and I'm sure it will be found that the figures are significantly higher.

Re: Kano, Lagos Lead In Youth Unemployment by dot2002(m): 2:51pm On Nov 27, 2007
proo212, that is a valid discussion, i was just about to say of course, Kano and Lagos will be in the lead because they have more population, but you actually grip unemployment and underemployment on a bigger scale. Kudos

adelodun's stats are fatally flawed. is he telling nigerians that only 0.02% of the population is unemployed? i think this is sickening. even the western countries can't boast of this unemployment percentage within the active workforce talk less of the entire population and talk even less of nigeria. the NDE has just branded itself a waste of tax payers' money. they better tell us what they have done to reduce the unemployment rate in the last 8yrs rather than beat their empty drums with useless figures.

if more women choose the house-wife profession then the number of female looking for jobs will decrease and the number of vacancies for males will increase- Voila!!! grin grin

I agree. It seems more like half of the country fall under the unemployment bracket alone, to me. That stat is not near accurate.

For those figures to be anywhere near accurate, unemployed Nigerians will need to register themselves as unemployed.

Nothing is ever accurate in Nigeria. The census is fraudulent, everything has K-Leg. They are trying to slip another stinker past the gates. 3 Million. . . LOL (Not Lots Of Love, but LAUGHING OUT LOUD)
