On more a reasonable note, all things being equal, sound engine no hicuppz: 1 litre for every 10km (petrol engine) while for the diesel types supposed to be 1 litre for every 3km |

seems most of u are just driving with no idea of how far u can go wit certain litres of fuel. Let me help u out: causual driving like town service driving consumes 7kms to 8kms per litre while distant or long journey consumes the avearage of 12kms per litre. Some toyota cars can take u as afar as 15kms per litres. The reason is simple, when a car is firing on 5 speed at 100kms to 110kms per hour, that is when u get the maxium economy. At this level, combustion is complete. But when u speed up to 120/140kms per hour, u ll be consuming twice as much fuel than normal. At this point fuel economy is just about 6kms per litre. Try it and see. Make ur calculations wit the size of ur tank and the distant covered, u ll realise what i am saying. Thanks. Thanks. mack midliner, model year 2000 gets about 14miles/gallon highway diesel. 2011 nissan sentra 28miles/gallon city gas. 2007 ford sportrac 17miles/gallon city and highway gas. |

My 97 civic average on 11.3km/l. 01 camry l4 is on 9.5km/l (city and highway averages) I check my consuption every week when i am refuelling. I know exactly how many liter of fuel will fill my tank from my speedometer readings. @ Pak, i dont now of Honda that consumes 1lit. per 19km, that is about 60 miles per gallon. Just got a brand new Nissan 4x4, 2011 model last week. Believe you mean when I calculated the fuel consumption it was way beyond my imagination, 6km to a liter of petrol. Meanwhile it's counterpart, Toyota hilux consumes btw 12 and 15km to a litre. The two Nissan we had in the our fleet has d same consumption rate while the hilux in the fleet are the same to show that the findings are not peculiar. |

My first car dint hav a speedometer/fuel gauge; d whole friggin dashboard dint work sef, so i relied on d "holy ghost" & a spare 4L gallon of fuel in d trunk to get by. The general story of how i calculate mine wit my current car is i always fill up my tank and reset d counter. My fuel gauge has 4 spaces (5 tick marks) btw empty and full. I noticed dat d gauge doesn't normally lift from d full positn until i clock 100km, every other tickmark is approx an additional 100km, so by d time i reach 1/2 tank i shld hav clocked 300km. Never ridden my car empty before, usually refill @ 1/2 tank (considering d way fuel scarcity can jump on u in dis country) and d station pump usually reads 25L +/- so i knw my tank is like 50L. From d above story, i now knw my car rides at 300km/25L = 12km/L optimum. If my gauge lifts from empty before i clock 100km or reaches halftank before i clock 300km repeatedly, i know there's a problem wit my car somewhere. 4 Likes |

The reason why it seems the car is consuming more fuel at those high speed is because most of the time, You r accelerating to get to that speed. If you can maintain constant velocity (without acceleration) at that speed (probably on a good road and relatively straight and traffic free road like abuja/keffi or airport to abuja town - Yar adua road ) then you will realise that your fuel consumption rate per km is actually at its lowest. Infact at such constant speeds my car reaches 'cut off' i.e. the fuel consumption is at an extremely low state that the gauge can no longer give an accurat reading. This are some of the tips they teach when you are learning to drive in a 'low fuel consuming' manner |

What brand of car do u use(and wat year of manufacture)? Is yor narration for town driving or highway/traveling? D first half of yor tank wud do 300km frm fill-up because it also includes yor reserve tank (which is usually 5-10L). I bet u d 2nd half of yor tank won't do 300km,....if u doubt me use a full tank of fuel to abt 35km into yor reserve area()red/orange zone) and den see wat yor odometer reads. 2 Likes |

...with my 190E (E for injector system) wit 5-speed manual, I do Abuja to Sokoto smoothly (630km). D catch is my speed must not exceed 110km/hr. But wen I do 140-160 or 170km/hr (which I did last week Tuesday,Sokt-Abj) I end up using a ful tank and half. My ful tank is abt 55L (I know because I used up a ful tank,wen d orange indicator came on for reserve fuel,I reurrned my odometer to Zero,drove for anoda 40km b4 re-fueling,...53L filled it up). But inside town d best I av achieved is 430-450km to a ful tank of fuel. Everytime I re-fuel to ful tank,I return my Odometer to zero. If inside town my quarter tank doesn't do 120-128km (and 180-200km on d highway) den I know my consumption is fried. 1 Like |

that is the problem most nigerian have. We never take note of anything that happen around us, how on earth can we govern nigeria. just a simple quesion but but no body can be precise on the answer. Omo my na 307 if i fill the tank it takes me to leeds from newcastle 5 times. Newcastle to leeds is 90 miles. and the full tank is 60litres. So i spend atleast 7.5 mile per liter. (diesel) 1 Like |

Don't knw d specifics of my Honda EOD 2004 model. V4 but a full tank takes me from lag 2 owerri n abt 11ltrs gets me from lag 2 ibadan no qualms. |

I think the moderator is miles ahead some of u... u see my first (Peugeot 605 latest model) has digital fuel gauge, again DIGITAL FUEL GAUGE. Thus, it shows on the dashboard (50 L) fifty liters, etc So from Aguda Surulere to VI (Eko Hotel) I would normally use 3 litres... and it is about 12 kilometres journey. And with this, I was able to know that virtually ALL gas stations in Lagos cheat their customers; sometimes up to 4 litres shortage. I had complained before and even told some of them this is not right... sometimes i take the pain to show them my dashboard. Lagosians, abi Nigerians, u are being cheated everyday by these stations and worse off, if u can't tell how much cheating is going on! 1 Like |

Lexus RX 300 - It consumes 3 liters per 100km. Got tired of draining my pocket so I got a 2.0ltr Toyota Picnic. Now I gladly spend 7.5 - 8 liters per 100km on the Picnic. Found out lately through an auto diagnostic tool that 02 sensor for the Lexus is bad hence the horrible mileage. |

@OP,all these consumption rate,are they not dependent on many factors?Age,make,model,road,traffic,usage, Tyre,size,weather.I think it does not matter what happens to the car after it leaves the manufacturer's compound. |

My car is Audi 80(tiger face) with AC in the town is 6.5km/liter and on the highway at 100-120km/h is 12km/liter but above 140-180km/h it is 8km/liter. l am always tempted to make that 160km/h because that is when you enjoy the stability and the breaks becomes extra active. the car can really run if you want to. 1 Like |
