Dear Anonymous You,

Tuesday was good.
more than special, every moment
when you held me, every care melted away
freely lost in the touch of your warmth
my heart still race even as I write
it felt good. Now I can't breathe goodbye
can we do it again? I want to be safe again
surrender again. Let me feel your pulse...
taste another of your sweet meat grill
write when you can,cos I do miss you.

Don't mind ileke forming yanga in public. She is not married! Maybe the decent way to go about it is to "follow" her on here. Then, send her a private message.

U sef na me go teach u woman matter ni? She is only shy & a "typical naija babe" so don't be discouraged!

I got the message, I give you 6/10. As far as I am concerned, Poetry should be short concise and rich in meaning. Your verses shouldn't be too long- this isn't prose.

am honoured ta be rated by you MACLATUNJI..i appreciate it smiley never thought i could score 1..lolz. . Ima heed to your words..

[Need a title and criticism for ma scribble below, thanks in anticipation smiley]

She came, she hurt me,she ran away.. She duped, she made me a castaway..
Her look,so bright,so fair lyk d sun ray..
Her ways,so blurr,so rotten lyk a moist hay..

Incompatible so we are..
Not her fault cos the grudge was enough clear..
Confirmed,no love ever share..
At last she makes me to glare..

No dear calling,no home coming..
Experience gained,now i'm believing..
On her,i bet no sleep losing..
I know it ain't easy but it keeps me growing..

A bye to her already said..
A bye to heartache that makes me weird..
Will never take u,if to me ur led..
Ma back now turned at a disgraceful maid..

Mistakes realised now..
Don't need to ask nobody where to start or how..
Now i concur,outta dis curse-lock i bow..
A new me,a new life i must grow..

Tgirl4real:

Yea, that is what I do most time. Can you expatiate more on what u mean by turning to narration? I'm working on a story and someone said I should do more of showing than telling. Can you explain please?

Here is the link: https://www.nairaland.com/956935/road-redemption

Ok, I visited the page for "Road to Redemption" and found it interesting. I think you got stuck because you didn't know what to write anymore(?)tongue grin . I believe that unless you are incredibly gifted with thinking abstractly, most of what an individual writes comes from personal experience and the experiences of those he/she has interacted with. So, you might want to:

1. Identify the points you are trying to pass across to your readers (I think you have already done that).

2. Dig into your personal experiences to find stories that support your argument.

3. If you can't find much with No.2, check the stories of your friends and acquaintances to identify those you can use in your write-up.

4. If that fails, do some extensive research to find materials you can modify to suit your purposes. You may even quote directly and give due credit.

5. The person that said you are "telling" instead of "showing" is speaking in terms of "proving your points". I say you don't really have to do that as long as you make it clear that you are only giving your opinions on the subject and not claiming to be an expert. If you claim to be an expert, you may need empirical research and data.

I hope this helps.

@ Mac,

Thanks dear. That was really helpful. smiley

You are right! I got stuck o esp. when I got to the story telling part. I have so many experiences that I can relate with, modifying it to look more fictional is the problem. I want to describe and create scenes like most terrific writers. Hope I'm not dreaming sha.lol

Thanks.

One more female judge!!!

COORDINATOR:
Cuddlemii

OVERVIEW-

ROUND 1 - SHORTLISTING & QUALIFIER:

-August 13th 2013: A thread would be created for submission of all poems.
It’s open to all members of Nairaland!
**So please submit your poems, regardless of if you are a writer or not!wink.

-The top twenty (20) writers would qualify to move to the next round

ROUND 2 - HOT TOPICS:

-A pool of topics would be released.
The topics would be divided into 3 section:
20 points, 10 points, 5 points which are bonus points.

-The contestants would pick the topics they are comfortable with.
Contestants can choose challenging topics, there is absolutely nothing
wrong with coming out of one's comfort zone
Contestants can stick to their usual style of writing.

-Note that, it’s possible to choose a topic that has 20 bonus points,
and still score low marks. The quality is what we would be evaluating.

**So, choose topics you would do justice to. Remember, the judges need to be convinced **

-The contestants are to write poems on any of the topics.
-Present the poem to the viewers using visuals, graphics, etc.
-A PowerPoint presentation of not more than 1 slide needs to be submitted along with your write up.
-If you do not know how to use PowerPoint, use CorelDraw, Paint or any other software you can maneuver.
-The judges would score the contestants.
-The coordinator would tally the scores with the bonus points, and 10 writers would be shortlisted
to move on to the third round.

For example:

20 points

2) Two hours to live
3) Circumcision

10 points
1) Life in the ghetto
2) Romancing the stone
3) Social Corporate Responsibility

5 points
1) Ikebe/Backside
2) The king danced naked at the market square
3) Crime of Passion

ROUND 3 - PEER EVALUATION:

-The contestants are going to grade themselves.
-The contestants would release their questions,
it can be based on their poem or something happening in the world that is related to their poem.

I have gone as far as I can gocheesy.
Mid-July, I would release the topics.
This is to give members ample time to prepare their write-ups.

July ending, I would remind and teach you how to present market your poem.
We are going to take Poetry Writing to another level cool. It's better experienced!
