The thread is misleading....did anyone notice that ? Its not like Nigeria as a country is importing, its just a filling station owner doing that...kai, this is real remote controlled de-invidualization of human minds via cyber antics.

Get over this guys Niger Republic like many countries in Africa are enormously rich, the problem we are facing in Africa is just lack of leadership. But No the rifinery in Niger is not owned by any Nigerian, it is owned by the chinese.

What really is the problem that Nigeria can't build refineries but prefers to import oil products?
a) Lack of funds
b) Lack of know-how
c) Oil cabal
d) Ignorance
e) Wickedness
f) Corruption
g) Politicians

Why is Nigerian's rifinery not functioning?
We have abt three of them, with one recently built in Anambra state, yet no development.
This foolishly fucking politicians are just foolishly mindless of this foolishly fucking development of a foolishly fuckuing coutry at a fucking time in history.

The refinery in Anambra state is still under construction and may remain so for another 100 years thereafter it will be commissioned as a museum piece

You guys cool down, Nigerian leaders are terrible, there is no smoke without fire. Where did Niger get crude from, we are quick to import from Niger. If we shine our eyes well well, it could be that there is a secret oil pipeline direct to Niger from NNPC. Top secret oooo, just my opinion sha. But seriously, anything goes in Nigeria.

auwal87:

It is clearly mentioned;

60% Chinese
40% Niger Government

It doesn't matter who owns, political climate in Nigeria doesn't allow projects like this to be completed. If not, Nigeria would have been supplying to whole West and Central Africa.

So how did they build LNG? By magic?

dedeike: Nobody should call GEJ here. He sought to withdraw subsidy inorder to create the right deregulated environment for private sector investments in refineries. However, the cabal mobilized labour to fight against it with pedestrian sentiments.
The truth which those oil cabal acting thru Waheed Omar and Esele failed to tell protesters is that no private investor will build a refinery in Nigeria under the present subsidy regime.
It is more favourable to import and benefit from subsidy claims than to take the risk to build refineries in a sector where govt regulates price.
Remove subsidy. Deregulate the sector. Allow the market forces of supply and demand to determine price. That is the sure way to go
thanks brother for the exposé, theses ignorant n naive people were the ones in Gani Fawenhinmi park crying for subsidy to be returned...nigerians r jus like goats. nobody shud complain cos at the end of the day, the country will burn now or l8r n let's see who survive.

basher:

So how did they build LNG? By magic?

NLNG is not much politicized because vast majority if not all is exported'

NNPC own 49% of NLNG
Shell holds 25.6% while TOTAL holds 15%, and ENI owns 10.4% of the NLNG.
So you can see why NLNG is working.

@Topic, i think this is simply BUSINESS. They get the goods cheaper outside, close by (Niger isnt too far from Katsina i believe) & they bring it in. Before we insult them, let the govt fix the refineries or BUILD new ones.

& its quite annoying reading posts where people are saying you cant build a refinery in Nigeria coz '' it will be politicized'', & that sort of rubbish. Was it ghosts that built the first 4 refineries, or those that will be behind the ''politics'' & the ''corruption'', are they from outta space?? Are they not human beings subject to the laws of Nigeria?? Dont we have regulatory bodies??

I'm sorry, but if the system is corrupt, it shows no signs of getting better, & even the leaders are accepting defeat, then it simply means that the leadership is just there as a figurehead. Inefficient leadership. Failed leadership.

Let the leadership grow some balls & determinedly push corruption out so good things can happen. Anyone who cannot do that is not fit to be President especially AT THIS TIME. We have 160 million plus people in this country, Presidency no be by force, if you cant do it, dont tell us you can. Sit down in your house and support someone who can do it. Dont get there and start making silly excuses.

Again, i reiterate to the GEJ praise singers here: If you keep saying that certain things cannot work in this country because of politics, corruption e.t.c. in government, then you are DIRECTLY (not indirectly) saying that the head of the Goverment is INCAPABLE of solving the problems on ground; either because he is simply CLUELESS, WEAK or he is actually PART AND PARCEL OF THE PROBLEM.

HOW MUCH DID NIGER BUILT HER REFINARY? $5 BILLION DOLLERS, HOW MUCH DID NIGERIA LOST TO OIL SUBSIDY THIEVES UNDER ONLY THIS GOVERNMENT? $1.3 TRILLION DOLLERS. HOW MANY REFINERY WOULD THAT HAVE BUILT FOR NIGERIA? THESE DOES NOT INCLUDE THE OIL THEFT DURING OBJ/YARADUA AND THE REST. THESE DOES NOT INCLUDE THE BILLIONS LOST TO POWER PROJECT ABOUT $20 BILLION UNDER OBJ ETC. MY FRIEND IT IS NOT ABOUT SUBSIDY REMOVAL,IT IS ABOUT CORRUPTION,NOT UNTIL WE HOLD THEM ACCONTABLE,NO AMOUNT OF SUBSIDY REMOVED WILL BE CHANNELLED TOWARDS POSITIVE RETURNS FOR NIGERIA.

This is shameful since our government fail to repair the existing refinery due to their own selfish interest why won't fuel be imported from niger, only time 'll tell if fuel won't be imported from cameroon also.
