I am about to pay for a Civic 03, I noticed the D light blinking.
Called "kazeem", he said the gear needs servicng that the oil isn't "guaged".

Oga Gazuz said d blinking is a fault on the gear, any idea where I can scan this car in Abuja or an affordable device to buy to determine the real problem.

This would go a long way for me in buying this car

Very decent car, good fuel efficiency, solid engine and a body shape that will not go out of vogue soonest.

The only snag is the cost of the gear currently which is around ₦120,000, but otherwise, good buy.

As for the gear, a blinking D light does not mean a dead gear, a faulty cellunoid , switch or relay can trigger it, also dirty or low fluid level can equally do that.
Take the car for a test drive and observe the gear selection, if it slips, stalls or does not go beyond a particular gear speed, then that can be a concern. Then report back here for advice.

Thank me later.

Took the car for a test drive, was able to get it to 80kmph (Drove withing a residential area), it ran smoothly, no stalls what so ever. The oil was visibly dark in colour when checked.

Seller confirmed the light has been blinking for about 3 months before now

Thanks

Luvinhubby has covered the critical bits. Unfortunately I am on a trip and would not be able to offer you a scan until late next weekend

Dear Sir,

Stay clear of that car. Look for a suitable alternative.

My personal opinion though.

Cheers!

Honda Civic is one of the most reliable cars I've ever owed. Almost zero maintenance plus the parts are cheap. Engine is not expensive and neither is the gearbox. Whatever the problem with the Civic be rest assured that it won't drain your pocket. The reason the car is not going beyond a certain speed is because it is in limp mode. It's likely just a minor issue with the gear.

Thanks sir, but I didn't mean it couldn't go beyond 80kmph, that was just the speed I could drive on that particular road.
If I had hit the express or a more free road, I would have gone higher

Scarr, a car in limp mode has a serious issue unaddressed that's why the onboard computer decides to limit available power delivered to the driver so as to take the car quickly for an emergency work.

Don't underestimate a blinking D light. It clearly shows previous owners care free attitude.

I've had my car go into limp mode after washing the engine. The car just refuses to go into higher gears above gear 2 i think. Oily substance was stuck on one of the sensors on the gear, cleaned it and the blinking D was gone.

Just know that as far as the gear doesn't slip, enters reverse gear and transitions smoothly then it isn't a serious issue. I can count the number of things in that car that will make you spend more than 20k.

There's this place they call Honda Line in Apo mechanic village. There's a workshop there that specializes in fixing gearbox issues when you take the turn by the Police sign post on the road.

Pls my Honda accord is draining fuel! I used 5k fuel in four days just to and fro a distance taxi drivers charge 100naira for. The mechanic has diagnosed that a switch on the injector is bad hence the black carbon sooth on the smoke pipe at the back. It's so frustrating as I just spent over 40k on fixing compressor and other stuffs to make d AC work. I have given him money to fix it, but if it doesn't work, I don't think I can afford to pay any more money. Please advise.

Kindly have the vehicle scanned with a robust scanning device and post the codes here

Please do not waste effort, money & time "changing" "fixing" "repairing" anything per that transmission until a proper scan is done

Hello House, i noticed recently that whenever am in goes-low or slow down and try to rev again, gear stuck in 2 or 3. Will have to stop and switched off engine to start again to make it select again. Occurrence is once a day or 2 days. ATF still pink in colour. Someone said it might be TPS but scan is giving the following codes P0404,P0135 and P2413. Car is honda accord 2003.

My OGA in the house, please help out.

Non of the codes is gear related, EGR valve & O2 sensors issue detected.

TPS replacement may help you out.

Is it a 4 plug or V6 engine.
