Politics / To #endsars, Boko Haram Terrorism, Buhari Must Resign – Imam Of Peace by 9jahotblog: 8:59am On Oct 17
A Muslim influencer and reformist Imam, Mohammad Tawhidi, popularly known as Imam of Peace, says to #EndSARS, Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, must resign.

Naija News reports that protesting youths in Nigeria are agitating for the end to Police brutalization and extra judicial killings of Nigerians. The protesters have been on the streets for more than a week now, protesting the brutalities, humiliation, and extortion of Nigerians, especially the youths.

The protesters demanded an end to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a police unit under the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department headed by the Deputy Inspector General of Police Anthony Ogbizi, using a hashtag: #EndSARS.

On Sunday, October 11, 2020, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu disbanded SARS following a widespread protest from Nigerians worldwide.

However, since the announcement that SARS has been scrapped, the protesters have refused to leave the streets, which aPresidential Advisory Committee says might force the Federal Government to take drastic measures against the protesting youths.

Reacting to the ongoing #EndSARS protests across various cities in Nigeria in a post on the micro-blogging site, Twitter on Friday, October 16, two months after he called for the immediate arrest of the Nigerian President, Imam of Peace said “if Buhari really wants to end SARS, Fulani crime and Boko Haram’s terrorism, then he must first resign and allow someone else to do the job.” This he said was “because a criminal doesn’t fight crime.”

Imam of Peace tweeted: “If the president is openly corrupt then the police will naturally be openly corrupt. If Buhari really wants to end SARS, Fulani crime and Boko Haram’s terrorism, then he must first resign and allow someone else to do the job – because a criminal doesn’t fight crime.”

Politics / It’s Not Enough To #endsars, SARS Terrorists Must Face The Law – Imam Of Peace by 9jahotblog: 8:40am On Oct 17
A Muslim influencer and reformist Imam, Mohammad Tawhidi, popularly known as Imam of Peace, has maintained that #EndSARS is not enough but that officers of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), must face the law.

Naija News reports that protesting youths in Nigeria are agitating for the end to Police brutalization and extra judicial killings of Nigerians. The protesters have been on the streets for more than a week now, protesting the brutalities, humiliation, and extortion of Nigerians, especially the youths.

Reacting to the ongoing #EndSARS protests across various cities in Nigeria in a post on the micro-blogging site, Twitter on Friday morning, October 16, two months after he called for the immediate arrest of the Nigerian President, Imam of Peace said “every one found guilty of murder or any crime must be put on trial.”

The Muslim influencer, however, noted that trialing those found guilty of murder would not be possible under President Muhammadu Buhari administrationwhich he described as a “failed Presidency.”

Imam of Peace tweeted: “It’s not enough to #EndSARS. Every one found guilty of murder or any crime must be put on trial. This will not happen during Buhari’s failed Presidency. Buhari must resign and the entire mafia: Buhari, Fulani militia, captured Boko Haram and SARS Terrorists must face the law.”

Politics / Ondo Election: Desist From Partisan Use Of Security Forces, YIAGA Tells Govt by 9jahotblog: 12:07am On Oct 09
A non-governmental organisation, Yiaga Africa has urged the government to shun the use of police and other security agencies during elections.

The Executive Director of the group, Samson Itodo, made the appeal on Thursday in Akure, the Ondo State capital ahead of the governorship election in the state.

“Given the pervasive threat to safety and security in the Ondo election, Yiaga Africa urges the Federal and state government to desist from partisan use of the police and security forces to manipulate the electoral process,” he said.

Itodo added, “In ensuring adequate security for the election, security agencies should manage their operation with the utmost levels of neutrality and professionalism.

“Respect for the law and citizen’s constitutional and civic rights should be maintained without excessive use of force.”
He also asked the security agencies to ensure the protection for voters, observer groups, media, and vulnerable voters, especially women and persons with disabilities.

The executive director believes voter turnout may increase if the security agencies prove that the environment is secured for them to exercise their franchise.

He stressed that it was important for the security agencies to enforce appropriate sanctions for any form of violation of the right to vote.

Itodo also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure the early payment of the allowance of ad-hoc officials for the election.

According to him, the electoral body must ensure all vehicles to be used for the movement of election materials and personnel are deployed to the Registration Area Camps a day before the commencement of the poll.

The executive director urged INEC to collaborate with the security agencies, especially the police to arrest and prosecute any member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) who violates the contractual agreement or makes any attempt to undermine the election.

“INEC should sustain the use of the election results viewing portal and ensure timely post of the Form EC 8 A at the polling units.

“Also, INEC should post information on Polling Unit (PU) where elections were cancelled or PUs where elections didn’t hold on the results viewing portal,” he said.

Itodo added, “INEC must show utmost professionalism in election administration and ensure timely, effective, and secure deployment of its staff, materials (sensitive and non-sensitive), and other resources needed for the election to enable early commencement of polls.”

The Co-Chairs of Yiaga Africa WTV Working Group, Dr Aisha Abdullahi and Ezenwa Nwagu, who were also at the briefing, decried the recent incidents of violence in the state ahead of the poll.

They noted that pre-election observation findings revealed a consistent trend of violence and arms stockpiling across some local government areas in the state.
Abdullahi and Nwagu were also worried that the low turnout of voters may further enhance chances for electoral manipulation in the strongholds of the major political parties, particularly in rural areas where election rigging was common.

They, therefore, called on the government, INEC, and security agencies among other major key stakeholders in the election to ensure a peaceful process on Saturday.

Politics / Re: Ondo 2020: Niyi Akintola Predicts Victory For Akeredolu In 15 Out Of 20lgas by 9jahotblog: 11:47pm On Oct 08
OMT18:
Legal luminary and Aare Bamofin of Ibadanland, Chief Niyi Akintola, has predicted victory for his friend, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Saturday’s election in Ondo State.
Akintola, who is a chieftain of the APC in Oyo State, made this disclosure on a Whatsapp platform – Oyo State Politics, less than 72 hours to the election.
According to him, “Aketi will win in 15 local government areas of the state. He would also split the votes of Central Senatorial District comprising Akure South and North Local government areas, Ondo LGAs and would win Idanre hands down. Ondo North and South senatorial districts are sure bets for Aketi.
“This prediction of mine are based on solid facts and the prevailing political circumstances of the state namely, 1. The unprecedented superlative performances of Governor Akeredolu in the areas of agriculture where the mainstream of the state economic power, apart from crude oil which is cocoa has received unprecedented boost of 8 million seedlings in the last 3 years, the increase of the state IGR from paltry N500m to over N2b per month, the governor’s aggressive fight against corruption and wastage, frugal spending of public funds, capturing of eligible taxpayers into the state revenue net and of course massive drive for other sources 0f income for the state.
“2. Massive employment opportunities created for a large number of unemployed youths through the inland revenue services that have employed about 1000 graduates of the Universities and polytechnics, Amotemun security outfits that has seen thousands recruits going through the training drills and many graduating, the revitalization of the moribund chocolate factory, the commencement of exploitation, mining and exploration of Bitumen in the state after several decades of obtainance 0f the mining licences by the state, massive constructions of roads in the state capital, Idanre, Ore, Ondo, Ilaje, Igbotako, Ese Odo, Ikare, Akungba, Owo, etc, and of course the turning of the state into industrial hub in the mode of Lagos and Ogun states.
“3. The Political tendencies in the state that has brought about the unwritten zoning arrangements. This unwritten but credible arrangement has seen the central senatorial district candidate in person of Dr Segun Mimiko spending 8 solid years at the government house, with the Southern and Northern senatorial districts candidates spending only 4 years each on each previous outings.
“When Aketi wins the next Saturday’s elections God willing, the Ondo north senatorial district would have equal the central senatorial feat. This factor had worked against Tayo Jegede SAN before in 2016 and would certainly work against him this coming Saturday all things being equal. Most political leaders in the southern and northern senatorial districts of Ondo state viewed the Akure born Jegede attempt at governorship ticket as aberration and an attempt to upset the credible arrangement of power sharing in the state.
“Tayo and Mimiko are from the same Senatorial District (Central) with mutual mistrust between Akure and Ondo indigenes thus creating a dichotomy of disharmony between the two highly educated, urbanised and cosmopolitan communities.
“The two cerebral communities hardly toe the same Political lines. The Southern Senatorial District is eagerly waiting for 2023 when the pendulum would swing in their favour and would not allow not even a battalion of PDP Governors to truncate the existing arrangement, hence everybody that is somebody in that Senatorial District is queuing behind Akeredolu. From Sola Oke SAN to Jimoh Ibrahim, to Kekemeke, to Sola Iji the founding Chairman of the progressive in Ondo state since 1999, you can take their support and total commitment to Aketi to the banks.
“Even, the dye in the wool PDP man Kuku, would not trade away his Senatorial District advantage for Political allegiance. They are all rooting for Aketi Victory and this will come on Saturday God willing. In the Northern Senatorial District, Political gladiators such as Professor Borroface, Baba Olanusi, Segun Abraham, Papa Akinyelure etc are not giving anything to chance. They also want a second term for their compatriot Aketi. Remember, this is a state where no town, geographical demography or Senatorial District command any form of majority or advantage.
“All the senatorial districts are equal demographically at least to a very large extent.Aketi is certainly on song. You might accuse me of bias in my presentation which is understandable, but I make bold to say that the presentation here is a balance Account of my experiences in the state in the last 15 months garnered from my trouble shootings to the state either on behalf of my party, the APC, or due to my relationships with all the people mentioned herein due to client/solicitor relationships, personal relationships, business relationships, professional relationships or even primordial relationships and campaign tours to the three Senatorial Districts a couple of weeks back.
“The campaigns have been issues based, highly cerebral, trust lawyers, devoid of mud slinging, and generally peaceful. Forget the pedestrian wolf crying of Gov Seyi Makinde who has been crying louder than the bereaved, the three Lawyer candidates have been very civilised and urbane in their comments and utterances. I was present at the peace signing ceremony, present at the Palaces of Deji of Akure, Olowo of Owo,our own Obat, The Olugbo Oba Akinruntan not as a spectator but as one of the 5 important APC dignitaries plying the trade of our party in canvassing for votes in the domains of these revered monarchs.
“I mean dignitaries that included Gov Akeredolu himself, Governor Ibikunle Amosun, Governor Yahaya Bello, yours truly and Senator Iyiola Omisore to mention but a few. There are other minor factors working in favour of Aketi. These sundry factors include good rapport with the traditional institutions as epitomised by the verdicts of the traditional rulers themselves, the prompt payment of workers salaries and pensions including the 7 months salaries owed by Mimiko’s administration etc.
“Ordinarily, payment of salaries and emoluments should not count as achievement in saner clime, but in a country of anything goes such as ours, it is an achievement which a politician would celebrate. predict here and now that all things being equal, Aketi, the “talk and do of Ondo state” would win the Saturday 10th October election by over 60% of the total votes cast by the grace of God. The title ” TALK AND DO” was conferred on Aketi by the traditional ruler of Akure land. Mark my word ,even if you are a doubting Thomas,” he said
lol he doesn't know the number of local government in Ondo state.
