Ifesinachi22: I've said this so many times "With a gun to Oshiomhole's head, he can never submit Obaseki's name to INEC as the party's flag bearer in Edo State."
One of two things will happen.
Lagos state scenario or Zamfara state. One of these must happen.
Peace To avoid Zamfara scenario, the party smartly adopts Direct Primary. If were to be indirect primary, each faction could conduct its own primary thereby leading to two candidates emerging. |
Politics › Edo Governorship: APC Seeks Public Verification Of Aspirants’ Records by abc115(op): 6:42pm On Jun 05, 2020 |
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced its intention to subject personal records submitted by its aspirants for the Edo governorship election to public verification. Six aspirants have so far submitted the party’s expression of interest and nomination forms sold for N22.5 million each. A statement issued by the party’s spokesperson, Lanre Issa-Onilu, on Friday identified the incumbent, Godwin Obaseki; a former chief of staff and secretary to the Edo state government, Osagie Ize-Iyamu; a former Minister for Works, Chris Ogiemwonyi; a former deputy governor, Pius Odubu; Matthew Iduoriyekemwe and Osaro Obaze, as the aspirants. The party says seeks to ensure “due diligence and transparency in the screening exercise and learning from our recent shocking experiences, we are determined to avoid any lapses in the process.” “Therefore, we are making the submitted information and documents of the governorship aspirants available to our party members and the public for verification of claims and to support the screening panel with information or any objection to the claims contained in the submission by the aspirants,” the party noted. The party has slated Monday and Tuesday for the public to visit its national secretariat in Abuja and Benin, the capital of Edo State, to assist in “scrutinizing the information, credentials and documents provided by the governorship aspirants” and raise objections where necessary. The party recently lost its victory in Bayelsa to the main opposition, PDP, on the grounds that party’s deputy-governor elect, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo, presented false information to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in aid of his qualification for the November 16 governorship election in the state. The Supreme Court also ordered that INEC should immediately declare the PDP governorship candidate, Diri Duoye, who had the highest number of lawful votes and geographical spread the winner of the election. As a result of the shocking legal defeat, many of the party leaders faulted the Adams Oshiomhole-led national working committee of the party for overlooking such loopholes which cost them the oil rich state. The party has slated its screening appeal for Friday June 13, while its primary election and election appeal will hold on June 22 and 24 respectively. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/396194-edo-governorship-apc-seeks-public-verification-of-aspirants-records.html |

Foreign Affairs › Trump Reelection Numbers Collapse As Joe Biden Behaves Like The Acting President by abc115(op): 3:28am On Jun 03, 2020 |
Donald Trump threw an authoritarian temper tantrum on Monday night, strutting out of the White House, threatening to use military force on the American people, and then having peaceful demonstrators gassed so he could stroll across the street for a photo op. While the voices in the president’s head might have convinced him that this stunt was a tough-guy move, it doesn’t appear to have worked. Not only are protest crowds larger a day later, but Trump’s poll numbers against former Vice President Joe Biden are in free fall. According to multiple polls released on Tuesday, the president is mired in the 30s when voters are asked to choose between him and Biden – a dangerous spot for an incumbent to be. With America in crisis, Joe Biden is conducting himself like the acting president In the United States of America, 2020 has been a year of crises, from the coronavirus outbreak to the economic collapse to the social unrest now spilling out on streets all across the country. Donald Trump has, quite spectacularly, bungled each and every one. As each crisis gets bigger, the president of the United States appears to get smaller, hiding in his bunker, trolling folks on the internet, and having peaceful demonstrators gassed on the streets of the nation’s capital. Meanwhile, former vice president Joe Biden has stepped up to the plate, meeting with protesters and community leaders, delivering a much-needed address to the nation on Tuesday, and – next week – planning to attend George Floyd’s funeral. Donald Trump is the incredible shrinking president, while Joe Biden is conducting himself like a commander-in-chief in waiting. https://www.politicususa.com/2020/06/02/trump-reelection-numbers-collapse-as-joe-biden-conducts-himself-as-acting-president.html

Politics › Re: COVID-19: Why Government Must End The Lockdown by abc115: 4:48pm On Apr 24, 2020 |
BENARI: It's no longer news that President Trump is bent on reopening the American economy and for this he has garnered a lot of support from the American people. It is also public knowledge that he has been heavily criticised for this and accused by many of putting the economy ahead of the lives and safety of his people.
But pause for a moment and just think, is Trump really that stupid and insensitive, or is there more to his strong desire to reopen the economy?
Well, I'm incapable of reading Trump's mind and I wouldn't attempt to interpret his motives. But let us take a critical look at our own situation here in Nigeria in dealing with the pandemic and see if it can help us get into President Trump's mind(just maybe).
We are now in the fourth week of President Buhari's lockdown order, as a matter of fact, for some, it's now been 6 or 7 weeks since they've been locked in at home for fear of contracting the Virus. Since the start of the President Buhari declared lockdown, many Nigerians have complained about thier inability to provide for themselves and thier families, and in the last 2 weeks, that complain has grown louder, resulting in protests, looting, and armed robbery.
While some might dismiss those engaged in this activities as criminals and unpatriotic, the fact remains that for most Nigerians, survival is a day by day affair, with most earning barely enough to meet the needs of one day at a time. The lockdown has without doubt made life and survival near impossible for most.
In the United States and other western countries, their governments have put in place palliative measures to cater for the immediate needs of thier citizens for the time being, but even that is not sustainable in the long run unless they can somehow find a way to reopen the economy at least partially. In Nigeria however, you know the story as much as I do, perhaps better.
My point Is, if the lockdown is further extended as is already looking likely, we might end up dealing with an outcome that might be worse in comparison to the covid19 pandemic. Already, yesterday, the United nations world food program estimates that unless something is done urgently, 300,000 people will die daily from hunger and starvation, 300,000 lives daily. At this rate 9,000,000 lives will be lost monthly, and most of this numbers will be from Africa.
It now seems to me that we are now in the proverbial "between the devil and the deep blue sea". Unless a cure is discovered soonest(I earnestly pray so), I have bad news; we will have to headlong come to terms with this deadly plague. We will have to come to terms with the fact that lives will be lost, people will perish unfortunately . But what is the alternative? The alternative is that we keep extending the lockdown which is clearly in my view, ineffective as we can see from the daily spread of the disease to more and more states of the country. But then this alternative will have consequences, some of which I have touched on earlier. Many more people especially children will starve to death, crime rate will skyrocket, jobs will permanently be lost as many businesses may never recover, anarchy will surely result, and what is more, our economy may take many years to recover, if at all. If for anything, this alternative, this solution will be far worse than the problem it is meant to solve; does that statement sound familiar? President Trump has repeatedly stated that the solution can not be worse than problem(even though he contributed to the problem in his country at least).
At this point, I'll love to think that maybe, just maybe, we have an idea why President Trump is or isn't making sense by calling for the reopening of the economy.
So what do think; should the lockdown be extended?
Let's share our views on this. Op , President Buhari didn't lockdown Nigeria, Only two States and FCT. Stop generalising. |
