South Africa owned telecommunications giant, MTN has announced the closure of all its shops in Nigeria. This may not be unconnected with the threat by some Nigerians to reciprocate the Xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that there had been series of attacks on Nigerians and their businesses in South Africa. An action which the minister of Foreign Affairs Geoffrey Onyeama says the South African government was not doing enough to quell. The attacks by South Africans also led to an attempt by some Nigerians to raze some South African owned companies in Nigeria on Tuesday, including MTN, Dstv and Shoprite. In a message to its subscribers on Wednesday, MTN Nigeria announced the closure of its shops and the operation of only its online platforms. ”Yello! Our shops are unavailable today. You can reach us on Twitter- @MTN180, MTNonline.com/Livechat, chat on MyMTN App. For Call Center dial 180. Thank you. Some protesters on Wednesday morning stormed a Shoprite mall in Abuja to protest the attack on Nigerians in South Africa. The protesters, who appear to have been prevented by the police from attacking the mall, burnt tyres and a billboard along the Abuja-airport road. Their actions caused a traffic build-up on the Abuja-airport expressway causing diversion of traffic. Shoprite, a retail shopping outlet of South African origin, has been a major victim of retaliatory attacks by Nigerians. PREMIUM TIMES reported how Shoprite malls were attacked in Lagos and Ibadan on Tuesday. The federal government on Tuesday night cautioned Nigerians against retaliatory attacks on South African businesses. President Muhammadu Buhari also on Tuesday dispatched a special envoy to South Africa to protest the attack on Nigerians in that country. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/350505-just-in-xenophobia-protesters-target-abuja-shoprite-burn-tyres-billboard.html |

The Federal Government on Thursday evening took delivery of a calibration aircraft worth $8.5m that will serve in the calibration of navigational aids across Nigerian airports. According to the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, the aircraft would help make Nigeria’s airspace safer. Sirika, who tweeted the development via his official Twitter handle on Thursday night, said, “Just received new calibration aircraft for the country. (The) make is King Air 350i. Cost is $8.5m. “The agony of contracting it to South Africa at about $500,000 every six months is over. Our airspace is safer. Thanks Mr. President, we started and finished during your regime.” Providing further explanation on the usefulness of the aircraft, the minister said, “The purpose of this aircraft is to calibrate our equipment and aids in the country for the purpose of flight operations. We used to have one in Nigeria but for the last two decades, we never had one.” Sirika said what informed the government to procure the aircraft was that when it was reconstructing the Abuja airport runway, there was the need recalibrate all the landing aids at the time, which was actually the requirement. “This is to ensure they are working in perfect order,” he added. He, however, noted that at that time Nigeria did not have the capability as a country. https://punchng.com/just-in-fg-takes-delivery-of-8-5m-calibration-aircraft/

[[s]quote author=OfoIgbo post=81727675]Something extremely unnatural about that picture. Even the Japanese lady was definitely placed there by the photoshopper to hide some imperfections that would have revealed a lot. Otherwise, while should a kimono girl be in the picture. There is something hugely off, about this picture. Again, as I wrote some hours ago. I need a solid explanation about the 3rd leg in the picture of yesterday [/quote][/s] |
