Former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, has narrated how he was shamelessly attacked by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPoB, in Nuremberg-Germany on Saturday. Ekweremadu who said he was ok in statement he issued via his Twitter handle, also disclosed that the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo, was also supposed to be at the venue of the event. Nwodo told newsmen that he would have also been attacked but for visa issue that made him not went for the Igbo cultural event. The Ohanaeze leader, however, said that the group has now become dangerous and wondered how IPoB summoned the courage to attack Ekweremadu who played key in the release of IPoB leader from his incarceration From left Kuje-Abuja maximum prison. According to Senator Ekweremadu who gave account of his ordeal at the event through his social media handle, @iamekweremdu, “I attended the Second Annual Cultural Festival and Convention organised by Ndi-Igbo Germany in Nurnberg today (Saturday) where I was billed to give a keynote address along with the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo, who, however, could not make it eventually. “I was given a resounding welcome by Ndigbo in Germany and everything went smoothly until some men, who identified themselves as IPOB members stormed the venue and began to complain about the killings in the South East, stressing that there would be no Igbo event at the venue. “I tried to engage them, but when they became unruly, I had to leave the venue. The organisers also invited the police and I was accompanied out of the venue. “Much as I am disappointed in their conduct, especially as I am one of the persons, who have spoken up on justice for Ndigbo, the Python Dance, judicial killings in Igbo land and elsewhere both on the floor of the Senate and in my written and personal engagements with the Presidency as well as rallied the South-East Senate Caucus to secure Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s release with Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe taking him on bail to douse tension in the South East, I nevertheless do not hold this to heart against them, for they know not what they do. “I have received thousands of solidarity calls and messages from well-meaning Ndigbo. I want to assure them that I am hail and hearty. I have also spoken with the Nigerian Ambassador to Germany, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar” Ekweremadu’s media aide, Uche Anichukwu confirmed the story. Expressing disappointment on the incident, Nnia Nwodo said the assault on Ekweremadu by Igbos in Germany, described as IPOB, is disappointing, grotesque and dangerous for Igbo solidarity. “This violent, rude, impertinent, divisive and discourteous style of IPOB or IPOB instigated miscreants is damaging to our cause. “It strengthens the case of those who describe them as terrorists and weaken our case against the infringement of our fundamental human rights. “Ekweremadu negotiated the sureties and securities for Nnamdi Kanu’s release on bail. He does not deserve this picketing and disgrace. A disgrace to him is a disgrace to Igbo race. “Whilst I condemn the attack on our revered son and leader, I call on the law enforcement agencies in Germany to bring to book the perpetrators of this despicable act. It is un-Igbo. It is disgraceful,” Nwodo charged. https://www.today.ng/news/nigeria/ipob-dangerous-ohanaeze-chief-243502 |

Barely 48 hours after rejecting Federal Government proposed National Livestock Transformation Plan, Benue stakeholders have made a U-turn and embraced the plan. The Federal Government delegation from Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources led by Dr Joseph Nyanger had on Wednesday met Barely 48 hours after rejecting Federal Government proposed National Livestock Transformation Plan, Benue stakeholders have made a U-turn and embraced the plan. The Federal Government delegation from Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources led by Dr Joseph Nyanger had on Wednesday met with stakeholders in the state on the proposed plan for NLTP. The stakeholders during the first meeting had unanimously rejected the plan, described it as Ruga in another form. “The National Livestock Transmission Plan is a Ruga in different regalia,” the stakeholders drawn from traditional institutions, the church, socio-cultural organisations, the academia, members of the Benue State Executive Council and the civil society had submitted. But in the statement made on behalf of the stakeholders, the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr Timothy Ijir noted that the stakeholders’ earlier stand was uninformed. Ijir in a statement made available to journalists on Friday said that the group met again and deliberated on the Federal Government proposed National Livestock Transformation Plan, stating that the plan was earlier rejected due to lack of adequate information. Parts of the statement read, “After exhaustive deliberations, stakeholders resolved to reconsider their position in view of the fact that they now have enough information to make an informed decision. “It was also resolved during the meeting that a technical team of experts be put together to study the NLTP document and identify areas suitable for implementation in Benue State based on peculiarities of the state. “The meeting also resolved that the NLTP should be domesticated in Benue State and to ensure that it conforms with the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law of the state,” parts of the statement read. The statement further stated that the State Government is evolving its Agricultural Development Policy which captures the people’s interest. https://punchng.com/benue-makes-u-turn-on-fgs-national-livestock-transformation-plan/

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has described the petition by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate in the last presidential election, Atikiu Abubabar, as the most worthless in election litigation history. The President urged the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) to dismiss the petition for lack of merit. But the PDP candidate insists that the President is unqualified to contest the election. He urged the tribunal to quash his victory. These are contained in the final written addresses submitted to the court, which they are expected to adopt on August 21 when the court will hear final submissions from parties to the petition by Atiku and the PDP, challenging the outcome of the last presidential election. Buhari and the APC argued that not only are the reliefs sought by the petitioners “ungrantable and meaningless”, they (Atiku and the PDP) failed woefully to prove the allegations as contained in their petition. Buhari and the APC, after analysing the evidence by witnesses called by the petitioners, argued that in their attempt to establish their allegations, they dumped documents on the court in the name of tendering documentary evidence. They said: “It is submitted with every force that in the annals of election petition proceedings in Nigeria, this particular petition has been the most starved in terms of evidence, whether oral or documentary. The petitioners also woefully failed to appreciate that this court does not wrought miracles, but decides cases according to law, and not based on sentiments. “Whereas, the petitioners are challenging results of election in all the states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and have pleaded in paragraph 107 of their petition that there were 119,973 polling units in the country, they called only five polling unit agents to give evidence, i.e PW5 of Mai Angwa Yclwa 008 Polling Unit of Jigawa State; PW6 of Farin Dutse 001 Polling Unit of Jigawa State; PW12 of Polling Unit 009 of Nasarawa “B” Ward of Niger State; PW46 of Unit 009, Karu Ward of Nasarawa State, and PW49 of Unit 1, Morowa of Nasarawa State. “Apart from the fact that these witnesses made no impression on the petitioners’ case, a pertinent question arises, to wit, what happens to the remaining witnesses in respect of the outstanding 119, 968 polling units in the country? On this note again, respondent submits that the petitioners are not in the least bit, serious at ventilating any grievance against the presidential election of 23rd February, 2019 before this honourable court. From the presentation of the petition, through to the calling of witnesses, the petitioners would appear to be very unsure and unsteady as to what they want precisely. “This is not surprising as the entity of the petition is based on assumptions, speculations and conjectures. The petition itself is based on live conflicting and irreconcilable grounds, the last two of which glibly suggest that the 2nd respondent (Buhari) was not qualified to contest the election under reference. “As against the grounds, the evidence given, both oral and the dumped documentary, suggests something different; the five reliefs sought are not any shade better than the grounds, but they vividly bring to the fore the confusion enveloping the entire petition. “Reliefs (b) and (c) wishfully pray this honourable court to, not only to declare the 1st petitioner (Atiku) as the winner of the election, but also to issue him a certificate of return. Yet, throughout the gamut of the terse evidence presented, it has not been demonstrated by any strand of evidence at all, how the 1st petitioner secured the highest number of lawful votes cast at the election, to warrant a certificate of return being issued to him. “Reliefs (d) and (e) trivially pray the court to determine that the respondent, who was a military Head of State between 1983 and 1985; a former Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces; a former Military Governor of the old North-Eastern State; a former Federal Commissioner of Petroleum, a democratically elected President of Nigeria, between 2015 and 2019, etc., was not qualified to contest the said election. ‘I’here is an alternative relief, which is neither here nor there. “In purporting to present a case before this court, the petitioners called 62 witnesses, While the respondent called seven witnesses. The seven witnesses called by the respondent were called out of abundance of caution, more particularly so, that at the close of the petitioners‘ case, the respondent has extracted every bit of evidence needed to not only deflate the entirety of the petitioners’ case, but also to establish the facts pleaded in his reply. “As for the much propagated non-qualification of the respondent, not a single one of the witnesses called by the petitioners gave any scintilla of evidence to support this presumptuous claim. Out of abundance of caution, the respondent called four witnesses in respect of his qualification? who not only gave evidence as to their class and course relationships with the respondent, but also tendered photographs. results, transcripts, among others.” “The 1st petitioner, who has made and continues to make a mountain out of the molehill of an otherwise irrelevant issue, has failed, refused and neglected to tender or produce any educational certificate of his. The Form CF001 which he claims in paragraphs 18 and 19 of his reply to the respondent’s reply has not been tendered before this honorable court. “ https://thenationonlineng.net/buhari-to-tribunal-atikus-petition-most-worthless/ |

The Abia State Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Uchenna Obigwe, says the organised labour in the state had issued a seven-day ultimatum to the state government ahead of an imminent strike over the unpaid arrears of workers’ salaries and allowances in the state. The ultimatum was contained in a statement jointly issued in Umuahia on Friday by the NLC, Joint Negotiating Council and Trade Union Congress. The group said that the ultimatum was a prelude to an impending strike. It warned that labour should not be held responsible “for any breach of industrial peace and harmony in the state,” should government fail to address their concerns at the expiration of the ultimatum. “A labourer deserves his wages,” it stated, adding that the organised labour was not satisfied with the “sectoral pattern of payment of workers’ salaries in the state since the inception of the present administration.” It also stated that the unwholesome development “has placed an average worker in the state in a beggarly position economically.” According to a list of the arrears released by the group, primary school teachers were owed three months, while secondary school teachers were last paid in October 2018. Others include Hospital Management Board (11 months); Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (four months); Abia State University Teaching Hospital, Aba (13 months) and Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, last paid in April 2018, plus partial payment in May, the same year. The organised labour said that while the senior staff of the College of Health Science, Aba, were owed nine months, their junior counterparts were owed eight months. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/regional/ssouth-east/345885-in-abia-secondary-school-teachers-were-last-paid-salaries-october-2018-nlc.html/amp/?__twitter_impression=true |

Is Atiku still coming? Well, not many supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2019 election still believe so. #AtikuIsComing is a campaign launched by some supporters of the Former Vice President, led by Reno Omokri, after his loss at the presidential poll. Atiku’s supporters had hopes that the legal team of the PDP and its presidential candidate will be able to establish the existence of an “INEC Server” which they claimed housed the results of the 2019 presidential election. The PDP and Atiku in their 139-page petition to the tribunal stated that “from the data in the 1st respondent’s (INEC’s) server…the true, actual and correct results” from “state to state computation” showed that Mr. Abubakar polled a total of 18,356,732 votes to defeat Mr. Buhari whom they said scored 16,741,430 votes. Despite insistence by INEC that it didn’t transmit election results electronically to any server, the Atiku camp boasted that it will call experts from Microsoft and IBM as witnesses to confirm the existence of an “INEC Server”. However, following disjointed performances by several “star witnesses” and “ICT experts” presented by the Atiku legal team to testify at the tribunal, the hopes of the supporters now appear dashed. The Atiku camp has already presented 60 witnesses, none has been able to establish that results were transmitted electronically to any server belonging to INEC. Supporters like Omokri who had repeatedly said he has “evidence” on the existence of the INEC SERVER has now changed his tone, claiming “the server has been deleted by INEC.” Trouble started for the Atiku camp when a witness from Katsina, who is the chairman of the PDP in the state, Salisu Maijigiri, told the Presidential Election Tribunal, that his party’s presidential candidate in the February 23 election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, defeated President Muhammadu Buhari, in the state. However, this claim contradicted figures from the alleged results obtained from the “INEC SERVER” presented to the Tribunal by the Atiku legal team. Another witness presented by the PDP, Joseph Gbenga who claimed to be a Database analyst and designer, also issued a report which conflicted with the claim of the petitioners in their petition. The witness in his report awarded a margin of victory which the petitioners (Atiku and PDP) never claimed in their petition. There was also a twist at the presidential election tribunal on July 19, when Osita Chidoka, the former minister of Aviation, invited by the PDP and Atiku as their star witness, admitted that he has never seen the purported server allegedly utilised by INEC to transmit results. When asked if he witnessed the transmission of the results electronically to the server, the witness, Osita Chidoka said no, but that he got the idea of server from past statements by the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Mahmud Yakubu. Chidoka also said he did not know the address of the server and where it is located, but that a whistle-blower provided information about the existence of the server. Also, a Kenyan Information and Communications Technology (ICT) expert, David Ayu Nyango Njoga, who was brought in as a star witness, said that he got the results of the last presidential election from a server allegedly operated by the INEC. Njoga, who is a witness at the presidential election tribunal in Abuja, said that the results were provided by an INEC official who, according to him, acted on condition of anonymity. The witness added that he later analysed the report through a third party website, www.factdontlieng.com. Reacting to the development, John Danfulani, an avid supporter of Atiku and the #AtikuIsComing campaign took to his Twitter to express his shocked at “being fooled”. He wrote, “Still recovering from the rude shock I got after reading the story of the so-called ICT expert from Kenya & the fairy tale of an INEC SERVER. I’ve never been fooled like this. And never again.” Another supporter, @destydan2012 wrote, “Nothing would make me more happier right now than for Reno Omokri and his accomplices to take the witness stand and tell us all they know. I mean I want to see the embarrassment on their faces just like they embarrassed me in my neighborhood.” http://ivotesng.com/2019/07/21/inec-server-we-have-all-been-fooled-atikus-supporters-cry-out/ |
