Hello goodman31. The 214b section of US immigration law is covers a wide range of potential ineligibilities, not just home ties. We can not advise you to make life changes for the purposes of a visa application. You may apply again, and if you do, be prepared to provide new information in support of your application, otherwise the result is likely to be the same.

goodman31:
Good day LagosNiv,
I was denied B2visa this morning under section 214b. I have read through the slip and discovered its for those who don't have strong ties to Nigeria that's applicable to.
I have been working in Federal government establishment for the past 11years, am married with kids and I earn a six digit salary and same thing with my spouse. I read that I can reapply if situation changes. What do you think I need to change.
NB I was invited by my uncle for his master graduation cceremony coming up in August 31st.

Hello Amakyzuu. Don't focus on the color of the paper; read what the letter says.

Amakyzuu:
Good morning VO.
My sister (15) just had her interview in Lagos. Her visa application was neither approved nor denied. The white sheet states that they need to do some administrative processing. The VO returned her passport to her. From her visa status online page it says she will be contacted if there is a decision. Is is possible to get an approval without her passport since the VO handed it back to her?
Thanks.

We always advise applicants to seek their visa well in advance of their intended travel. Many wise students interviewed in May and June so they had their visa already settled before starting classes in August. In the best of circumstances, it takes two-three working days to print and return a visa after a successful interview. If some administrative processing is required, it can take longer.

Simeonarome:

OK so please can you give the minimum amount of days interval that must be between the appointment date and the schools resumption time so as not to get denied
PLS an estimate would do

Hi ogbenibayo. Individuals seeking medical treatment in the US should be able to demonstrate that they have been in contact with healthcare providers there, know how much the treatment will cost, and show how the bills will be paid in full.

ogbenibayo:
Hi VO,

I am thinking of going for eye surgery in the US. I have been in a contact with an hospital there. Now the hospital is requesting for my appointment request date. I haven't applied for a US visa.Do i get a date from the hospital first or i schedule an appointment at the US embassy and inform the hospital?

Regards

Hello Simeonarome. It is possible to be entirely truthful in an interview and still be denied a visa. But at least you will not be disqualified in future applications for dishonesty--which unfortunately is all too common. We're not going to get into the specifics of your case or any others on this forum.

Simeonarome:
Hello Niv
I just went for an f1 visa interview and I applied together with my dad who applied for a b1/B2 visa and we were supposed to attend the interview together . The thing is my dad was not able to attend because the Barcode on the appointment form had an error. Anyways, I attended the interview alone I answered the questions well, and gave truthful answers but I was denied. I just want to ask 2 things
1. Is it possible to be denied because I didn't come with my dad who was to sponsor my education and accompany me to the trip. Because the consular asked who my sponsor was and where he works which I answered, but he didn't ask for evidence
2. Or could it be because I finished secondary school in 2014 and when he asked what have been doing the past three years I told him that I have been applying to Nigerian schools but I didn't get my desired course. (which is very true)
Please I want to know if it's possible for an applicant to be denied based on this circumstances
Thank you...

Hello oslove. Your school should really be walking you through this process. If it isn't, then it probably is not very strong at accommodating international students. We process dozens of student visas everyday in Nigeria, so clearly the SEVIS payments can be made from this country.

oslove:
Hello sir I want to know how can i pay my SEVIS fee with receipt been given because I was told by some person's that I can not pay SEVIS from Nigeria? Pls sir educate me on what to do. Thank you.

Alot of person's are saying I cannot pay SEVIS FEE from Nigeria. Pls sir educate me on what to do and how to go about it?
Travel / Re: U.S. Student Visa (F1, M1, & J1) Forum - We're Listening by abujaniv: 10:19pm On Aug 09, 2017
Talk to your school. You may request that they issue you another I-20 with a later date or a letter authorizing a late start. If you show up for a visa interview on, say, Aug. 11 and the start date of your classes is Aug. 12, we are not going to issue the visa. There is no way you can make it in time, and you'll likely be turned around by CBP. That's not good for anyone.

Fenix:

Please in the event your visa was approved but you will not be able to travel until after the start date on your I-20, would you have to request a new I-20 and apply for a new visa?

Hello justsaypie. Yes, it is possible, and it does happen. If at any time fraud or some other misdeed is discovered, the visa can be denied or revoked. The US visa process is not focused on documents, but when we ask for them, we do check into them. If they are discovered to be fraudulent, the application will be denied, and the applicant may have a permanent ban applied to them for misrepresentation.

justsaypie:
Hello AbujaNIV

I have a question to ask, is it possible that your visa is denied after you have gotten the white paper and asked to come back in 3 days to pick your passport?
I was chatting with a friend last night and he was explaining to me that someone he knows was denied after getting the white paper from the embassy, reason was that the 'VO/Embassy checked the documents he submitted with the school during his application and discovered that he submitted a fake account statement'...
I have a hard time believing this but I need to be sure and confirm if this possible/true.

Hello herrlicher. We can not give any timeline for how long administrative processing will take. We obviously try to resolve it as soon as possible, especially for students. In this situation, you held off getting a visa until very late in the process, so now you will have to deal with the consequences of that. We always advise prospective travellers to start the visa process well in advance, say three months, of their travel date. You may have to get a revised I-20 or a letter from the school authorizing late entry into the US.

herrlicher:
Hello VO
I am an f1 applicant. Did my interview at the US embassy Lagos consulate on 1st of August 2017.
Was handed a white paper which was marked "administrative processing". The VO told me I will be contacted in due course.
I was surely contacted 2says after with series of security questions which I was told in the email to answer with proofs attached before further adjudicating my visa application.
I did answer with required proofs and later got another mail the next day that my mail was received and forwarded to CGI for processing that I will be contacted once they are done..
My concern is that my lecture is resuming next week 16th August and am yet to get their feedback.
Any hope of getting their response in other to meet up with my program.
I am travelling for a graduate certificate program at Arkansas.
Thanks.

Dear NIV, thank you always for prompt response to questions.
I was going through the ds-160 of my cousin today and I discovered error in the portion where question was asked "" have you make any specific travel plan"? He answered "No" but not conscious of it until after submission. My question is " can this be corrected "? If yes how ? Because the interview is next week. To avoid standing as red flag
Thank you and God bless you

Hello Diapearl. This is a question best posed to customer service. If you can't get into your old profile, make a new one.

Diapearl:
Goodmorning VO,
Please advice me, i, my husband and daughter finished and submitted online, our visa renewal forms over a week ago. since then, we have been unable to successfully schedule an interview appointment or know if we qualify for the dropbox system because, my husband who is the person whose profile was used to get the visa 2 years ago and {main applicant},forgot his password for the profile previously used and he no longer has access to his former email. we provided feedback in order to rectify this, but up till date, we are still unable to proceed to the next stage.
My question is, can i create a new user with my details in order to complete the process? what is the implication?.
Thank you for all your assistance.

Hello Ilhoffer. Every first-time applicant, regardless of age, must appear for the interview. The procedure for an infant is the same as for an adult.

Ilohoffor:
Hello,
I just had a baby and will like to travel on holiday with him to the US in 2 months. I was wondering what the procedure to get him a visiting visa was. His father and I currently have valid B1/B2 visas. Will he qualify for the waiver programme or do I have to book an interview? He is currently 2 months old.

Hello Fenix. When you apply to change status, you are going from one type of visa to another. So if the change was denied, you were denied a visa. Be prepared to explain at the interview.

Fenix:
Hello VO,

I would like to know if a denial for a change of status is the same as denial of a visa. I have once been denied a change of status in 2009 when I was in the States. I have not been back to the US since then. However I recently gotten admission into a good school (along the lines of Harvard/Princeton/Stanford) with a scholarship and am quite worried that this will negatively affect me getting a visa.

On the DS160 form, where it asks if I have ever been denied a visa, I stated "No" as I was not sure if the denial of a change of status was the same thing as a denial of a visa. However on the question of whether I have ever overstayed a visa, I stated "yes" and went on to explain. I am not sure if these two questions are asking the same thing. I would really appreciate your input.

Thank you!

Hello enygmababe. Application procedures for the interview waiver program (dropbox) are the same as for a first-time applicant, just there is no interview. Information is here: http://www.ustraveldocs.com/ng/
Anytime the actual travel deviates from what was indicated in the interview/application, it invites further scrutiny. Be prepared to explain if the border agents ask. Tell your parents to bring up the discrepancy at their interview.

enygmababe:
Dear VO,

Compliments of the day to you. Please I have three questions.

1. I have a valid visa which I have travelled with but will expire in September. I would like to renew it as I intend to travel in October. I am eligible for drop box but can't find any information on the application procedure. Please can you help?

2. Hubby got his own visa this year and we initially planned to travel sometime in may to Texas but we had to change our plans on account of my health, now we want to go in October but to Tennessee, will this pose a problem at the POE?

3. I applied for visas for my parents and their appointment is later this month but while filling my mums form I was shocked to see from her passport that she was not born in Benin but in Auchi area and I had already filled Benin for her in my dads form which I had already submitted. Can I correct this mistake or will it be a problem since I will not be attending the interview with them and can't explain the mistake?

Please help.

Thanks in advance

Hello sobastical. If customer service was unable to help you, I don't have a better answer for you. Applicants who follow the instructions on http://www.ustraveldocs.com/ng/ generally have no problems in submitting an application, paying the fee, and scheduling an interview.

sobastical:
Good afternoon abujaNIV

I should have table this here long ago but I couldn't find this thread on time but let me briefly say it here by firstly commending you for your swift response to questions here.
Here's my case, I went for interview for F1 last year December 27th or so and was denied, So I paid for another visa fee and schedule for January 5th for appointment at the Lagos consulate but unfortunately I was turned back because my old DS-160 code was still reflecting on my appointment. The lady at the biometric spot told me to back that I will be given another date after 5 days she gave me a paper containing some information and I should check the my appointment account online to correct the error but I kept getting an error that my MRV code doesn't exist and can't be found which is my receipt from the visa fee payment gotten from the bank wasn't valid anymore.

I called the embassy help center nothing came out, I sent mails but all was futile. I want to know if there's something that could still be done to that. I just want to know. Thanks.

Hello pyx. An applicant with an ineligibility may request the visa officer to apply for a waiver of the ineligibility on their behalf. If the officer agrees to do so, the applicant's case is put into administrative processing (221g status), and the waiver application is sent to the Department of Homeland Security. If DHS approves the waiver, the applicant is directed to return their passport to the Embassy/Consulate, and the visa is processed. If it is a lifetime ineligibility (such as 6c1 for material misrepresentation), this process will need to be repeated for each visa application.

pyx:
Dear NIV, what is the process of applying for waiver?

Hello visionphemy. If you have not yet attended this school, you have to "start" going there before you can "resume." We can't issue a visa for a school whose start date has already passed. You will need a new I-20 or a letter from the school authorizing a late start. Even if you had the visa, you would likely be turned around at the port of entry.

visionphemy:
thanks dear NIV I was denied visa last year and now my school is resuming 15th and their is no more date for interview before that day do you still advise i apply for an interview days later than my resumption.

Hello fairfora. The story you recount is a cautionary example of the dangers of using agents. Mistakes made by them, intentional or not, reflect solely on the applicant, so there's no point in trying to foist blame. This goes for protocol officers as well--we often see officials with serious mistakes or omissions in their applications. Again, it is the applicant alone who will bear the consequences from these errors. It usually means that we will require the applicant to come in for a follow-up interview to clear up the mistakes. But it can be as serious as a lifetime travel ban.

Credit card fraud is a serious crime. Your boss should not apply again until DHS rules on the waiver. He'll just be forfeiting another visa fee, and it won't change the wait time. There is no option for appealing to Consular managers.

fairfora:
Dear Abujaniv, Please i want to present a case on behalf of my boss. In 2004, he was assisted by a miscreant who paraded himself as an agent to gather his travel document for a genuine training programme he was supposed to attend in USA back then.
