Nairaland / General / My Mission On Youth Development And Agriculture Business Revolution In Ekiti St by Adesinaayo: 8:26pm On Nov 14, 2020
Olamide Ajayi is a London, United Kingdom based entrepreneur and philanthropist. He is the founder of Olamide Ajayi Foundation, he spoke about his ideas and activities in development of youths in Ekiti State and by extension Nigeria as a whole and also his efforts in considerably taking people out of poverty.

What Is Main The Focus Of Your Foundation?

My foundation is saddled with the responsibility of helping young people leap out of poverty by way of providing both leadership developement and skills acquisition programs in Ekiti Central. My foundation has also heaily invested in youths and sports. We recently organised a football tournament for the youths in Ekiti Central where the winner received a trophy and 100,000 naira and the runner up received 50,000 naira with a trophy. We also gave cash and other items to best player, best goalkeeper, best behaved player and so on.

Our foundation is although focused essentially on the youths but we have micro initiatives for the elderly. we are planning to help many farmers with fertilisers and also provide food stuff for the less privilege seniors in Ijero Local Government Area of Ekiti State

What Is The Inspiration Behind Your Projects?

The inspiration behind my projects is the fact that, from when I was young, I have always believed that I was born to make a difference and play a part in making my state especially my home town a place of honour and excellence . Apart from that, I was badly affected by the poor background that I came from, so, seeing people live in poverty hurts my soul, I'd rather spend all I have on people so we can all be okay than stand as the only eyed man in the community of the blind.

The Initiative At Ekiti Recently, What Is It All About? What Has It Achieved? What Are The Lessons Learnt From The Initiative? The Experience And So On

Olamide Ajayi Football Competition is one of its kind in Ekiti Central,
This competition has equipped more than 14 different teams and IKORO UNITED with set of jersey.
The winner went home with 100k with set of Jersey among numerous awards, the runner up went home with cash gift of 50,000 Naira.
Ikoro Ekiti teams has been the major beneficiary of this esteem competition because the community got 4 different sets of Jerseys. It has fostered unity among the youths in that region especially Ijero Local Government Area of Ekiti State
The competition has spurned Ikoro Ekiti to have a Community team called IKORO UNITED.
Olamide Ajayi Foundation also donated a set of Jersey to Ikoro United as well.

What Is The Next Line Of Actions? Those Discovered At The Football Tournaments What Are The Immediate And Future Plan For Them?

We don't really have mission to build a team or club, but this exercise has a huge potential of great clubs emerging and that can be sponsored or fostered by other philanthropists or individuals. But my real mission is to use football as a conduit for reconnect.
As I earlier mentioned that there is huge disconnect among youths, especially in Ekiti State. Meanwhile, what we see in Ekiti is a mirror of what is happening in our larger society. Not just Ekiti, so I don't want to make it as if Ekiti youths has gotten issues, but that is the group or demography I am focusing on. So the on us is on me to speak extensively on matters relating to them and using them as my reference point.
Back to what I was saying, the football competition is just to get talent, create opportunity as well as give them opportunity to be involved and catch the attention of local and international football scouts and sponsor. The competition is essentially to create a platform for the youths to exhibit their passion and develop their talents. It is to resourcefully engage the youths and encourage positive use of their talents, passion and strength while getting attention of relevant football promoters and sponsors at both national and local levels. That is why we are taking the football competition from town to town starting with Ijero Local Government and of course Ekiti Central.

Shed Light On Your Agricultural Initiatives, How Is It Set To Help The People?

I was born and raised in Ekiti. I see the huge potential that farming has for the young people and how much rejection that is based on ignorance that farming has suffered. And a kind of wrong attitude of young people towards farming. This is not encouraging. So it is not bringing the wealth in the forest into our hands. Many think that the best way to go is when you go to the university and when you finish you go to the city, obviously to pick up white collar job and really many of them end up being poor. This is because not every white collar job has the potential to make you rich. It is just to keep you average or to keep you somewhere. Except you get involved in illegitimate activities, may be embezzling company's fund and things like that. Many don't get rich just working for companies.
And if you want to stay legitimate, if you want to stay fit and proper, you want to be honest and reliable, you got to be entrepreneurial. The fact is that you don't neccessarily need to go to any workshop, training or symposium or things like that for you to know how to do farming. The good thing about most youths in Ekiti State is that most of us already have backgrounds in farming. And most of our parents, grand parents and great grand parents have some sort of lands in Ekiti that you can just leverage on. You can seek for funds and start small scale agriculture business, small scale farming and then build your life up from there. So that is one reasons I am doing this.
Second reason is just to give a lot of Nigerians, especially Ekiti in the Diaspora the opportunity to invest back home. Helping them to look for land, a good thing is that lands are relatively cheap in Ekiti State, you can buy few hectares of land and start your farming business from there.
There are lot of Ekiti indigenes in Diaspora who don't come home often or who don't have people they can trust enough to help them with their farming business, so we help them with this. Of course, farming for me as well is a way of securing my future and I am working hard in that regard. I am planting trees which don't bring profits until after 10, 14 years and more. I am planting them in thousands, so I am kind of securing a good future for me and my children. So I want young people to take a clue from that and build not just today but also build tomorrow from today.

Considering The Recent Youth Unrest In The Country, What Do You Think Make Today's Youths Seem Agitated And Restless?

The question is not about today's youths, youths have always been agitated. Youths have always been restless. It is not just youths in Nigeria only but everywhere. For example here in the United Kingdom, there is that sense and feeling of marginalisation with black minority young people, the root of this here is racism, so black people in the UK, although worse in America, they have been marginalised, they have been stereotyped, and pushed to a corner. And when you are pushed to a corner and you know you can't break through the wall and you don't want to loose your life or die, what you do is attacked back. And that is exactly what the youths in Nigeria are doing. They have been pushed to the wall, it looks as if the minute you become rich or you assume a public office and you have all the wealth at your disposal you are cut off completely from the reality, the struggles, the pains of the people around you. So these young people consistently each day of their lives live in pains, in penury and in misery. Their parents are poor, nobody in their families has any wherewithal and they are not too sure of what the future holds for them. And to know that you completely live in the midst of wealth and in the midst of abundance and complain of lack everyday is one of the most torturous experience. Like when you know that it is the same equal right you have to wealth of the nation, it is the same right I have to that wealth, but by dint of office you occupied, you sidelined me and you gave yourself permission and access to that wealth, and you take everything from all of us and you use what you have taken for yourself and your families is annoying, so people would want to fight back in a situation such like that.
I know that the recent protest in Nigeria is focussed on #EndSARS, but that is not just the issue. This is because SARS is just an entity a body that stepped out of a corrupt system and any other body that step out of that system will equally be corrupt. It is like a trunk of a tree that is corrupt will always produce branches that are corrupt and fruits coming out of that tree or the branches will equally be corrupt. So young people have seen the composition if the trunk and the corruption of the tree, so the Nigeria keeps producing bad elements, bad fruits and I saw the young people have come to a place that they feel fighting back is one of the ways to get their freedom.
So they are not fighting the goverment, No! They are fighting the system, they want a change, they want reformation. Until the goverment sees the need to attend to young people, there would never be total transformation in Nigeria. Take it or leave it, any government that is going to thrive and have economic power that is reasonable must leverage or trade in the skill, the brilliance and the technical know-how of the young people. If you don't leverage on that, if you don't take the advantage of that, there is nothing you do that is going to make sense. They have gotten the technology, they can use the the technology to bring transformation at any level. So young people should be encouraged. The goverment should have huge budget for young people, they should cater for the young graduates, their allowances should continue after they completed their NYSC until they are able to find job. That is what they do in the United Kingdom. The problem of unemployment has actually thrown the young people into unscrupulous activities that are really mind blowing, annoying and disheartening. You see young people who killed girls for money rituals, they call them Yahoo Yahoo. Many of these young people don't even want to get involved in these things, but there is no other options, it has become a do or die affairs. And life shouldn't be like that.

What Advise Would You Have For Government In Taking Care Of The Youths And In What Areas Do You Think Government Can Adequately Empower The Youths?

I earlier mentioned the budget for young people. Nelson Mandela said "the issue and the challenges of Africa can only be solved by Africans". The issues and the challenges of young people in Nigeria can only be solved by young people themselves. If you want to have a Minister for youths and this Minister is already in his or her 60s, he or she is already completely cut off from the realities of the young people. But if you want to have the Minister for Youth and Sports or Commissioner for Youth and Sports get a 40+, 30+ or a 20+ years old person who can engage with a good track record. Not just someone who is just hungry to get the position and take all the public funds into his or her private account. Get someone who is tested, proven and who is fit and proper. These are very important. And goverment should be about the economy. The economic power has to come to a new level. The goverment has to be more intelligent, exposed and they should care more about the people more than the infrastructure. Though infrastructure is good because is going to aid development, but the care should be more about the people and they will build the infrastructure. But if you don't build the people, the infrastructure you built is going to be ruined by the people you are not built.
We see what happened in Lagos and some other states of Nigeria, those hoodlums were not built and now they are destroying things that they were built. Therefore let's have a way which the goverment can build the youth.
I am offering myself in Ekiti State doing my solo works, organising football competition, going from one secondary to another impacting young people. And I am trying to organize quiz competition in the secondary school with great prizes to be won. I also have other programs. Such programs that can positively and resourcefully engage the young people as well as programs that can deepen our democracy, where the young people will be mentored and provided platform to understudy the democratic institutions in the state and federal levels. All these are in the offing. I believe as we introduce the young people into these, we are actually creating a better tomorrow.

Nairaland / General / DELE ADESINA AND THE NBA PRESIDENCY IN A TIME LIKE THIS By Adesina Adetola by Adesinaayo: 10:55am On Jul 21, 2020
Nigeria marked 20th year of returning to democratic rule in May last year. No doubt, since the landmark return, as it is said in local parlance, many river have gone under the bridge. It has indeed been a complicated experience. The polity has gone through different stages of political reengineering and electoral reforms. In the same token, the political system has experienced various doses of constitutional crises, institutional malfunctioning and organisational challenges. It is a fact that in the space of these twenty years, Nigeria had very phenomenal political governance with epic events and epoch making scenarios. More importantly, the democratic experience has significantly brought to the fore, the need for all hands to be on deck in establishment and sustenance of pristine democratic values and ideals that would take the country to the next level of development and growth.
In this assignment, the role of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) becomes very sacrosanct. Globally, the place of the judiciary in democratic governance can never be overemphasized. It forms one of the formidable pillars of democracy, where it is widely acknowledged as the last resort of a common man. While it is a fact that the Bar occupies a premium place in the judiciary, it also forms the backbone of the legal system.
Apparently, at present, Nigeria's democracy in the eye of the public is in a critical state. The political cum electoral system is in a serious state of help which has perpetually made the judiciary an integral part of the political system, recurrently giving electoral verdicts and ultimately determining the fate of the ballot. Without mincing words, the situation in a couple of times had inadvertently robbed the legal institution the integrity and the confidence the general public repose in it. The bottom line is that in time like this, the polity needs a formidable structure that would deepen the nation's jurisprudence.
From the time immemorial, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) is popular for its traditional role of defending the rule of law, human rights and judicial independence. More relevantly, the NBA has continually played significant roles in maintaining the sanctity of the Nigerian judiciary system. Even in the years of military dictatorship, NBA was at the forefront of the struggle, not to just ensure that the military returned to the barracks, but also championing the course of public governance rooted in democratic ideals and principles.
Meanwhile, more significantly, the role of the NBA over the years had in some ways determined by the quality of its leadership. It is therefore of national importance and professionally necessary for the revered body in its forthcoming national election to do the nation and the polity a great favour by putting on the field its first eleven; the best of the bests in its erudite fold. The Association and its learned members should look beyond the euphoria of the electoral period, but ponder on the future of the legal system of the Africa's largest democracy. They should see the need to re-establish and sustain public confidence in the judicial system; they should see the reason to pursue institutional professionalism and restore integrity of the legal system as well as see the necessity in nurturing Nigeria's democracy on ideals and principles rooted in the rule of law.
In this regard, the formidable body should kindly permit me though, ‘unlearned’ but as an ordinary citizen to join thousands of the learned fellows to push for a candidate in Dele Adesina, SAN. A thoroughbred legal icon, a Bar man par excellence who has spent over 37 years of his life, actively at the Bar and also in private legal practice. His pedigree indeed speaks volume.
Dele Adesina SAN, whose evergreen professional Mission Statement is “to harness our potentials to promote Justice and Rule of Law through a demonstrated degree of professionalism and proven integrity”, has on many occasions successfully occupied different positions of authority and service in and outside of the legal profession. He, among other positions, was the Publicity Secretary, the Secretary, and Chairman of Nigerian Bar Association, Ikeja Branch at various periods. Particularly, in 2002, he was elected the General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association. The leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association at the time during which he occupied the power house of the Association in the capacity of the Associations General Secretary is reputed for creative promotion of the welfare of Lawyers, uncompromising defence of Rule of Law, protection of the independence of the judiciary and the promotion of sustainable democracy.
Therefore, in a plural and deeply divided society like ours, in a time like this, the body needs a unifying leader in person of Dele Adesina SAN to lead a highly significant professional association like NBA to push a campaign for reform of Nigerian judiciary, defend the judicial independence and uphold professionalism in the legal system. As a matter of fact, in a society where politics is gravely coloured by ethnicity and beclouded by religion, the body in time like this needs a liberal and detribalized leader in Dele Adesina SAN, who as an employer of labour indiscriminately employs people across religion divides and beyond tribal boundaries. He is a legal luminary who is committed to a resourceful judiciary cum legal system that would enhance the country's quest towards a virile nationhood and a pan-Nigerian democratic development.
More importantly, in a time like this of our nationhood, the Bar needs Dele Adesina SAN, who has over the years been consistent and committed to the rule of law, and evidently has the capacity, experience and character to restore the respect of the Bar, to promote the sustenance of the integrity of the legal system and by extension to aid the development of a democratic governance rooted in constitutionalism and rule of law.

Politics / A Tribute To A World-class Erelu @ 57 By Adesina Adetola by Adesinaayo: 1:52pm On Jun 11, 2020
Political governance, today, means different thing to different people. To many, it is an opportunity to amass wealth, enlarge material coast or claim an unimaginable portion of the communal wealth. While many see it as a channel to settle political score, climb a pedestal to oppress rivals or boost personal ego; on the other hand, to some, it comes as an avenue to inject development ethics into the society, encourage values that will permanently makes the world a better place and also promote ideas that are beyond parochial interest and personal reward.
It is a fact that in a complex society like ours, having diverse characters in governance is not unexpected and using political office to achieve an array of mundane interests has become a notable part of the system. Public office holders, their aides, associates and more relevantly spouses are made of different characters, depending on whom fate has launched at a particular time on the people. Though, it could not be outrightly disputed that the nature of the society in most cases produces the kind of leadership it gets, but in some cases, it could never be wished away that leaders could emerge in isolation of what the society dictates. In the Nigerian context, leaders have emerged in different forms and the characters of the leaders have gone a long way in determining what befalls the society while they hold sway in public offices.
In Ekiti State, a leader has emerged at this particular time to bring to the fore, that a land of honour and fountain of knowledge as the state bears, needs nothing short of characters that would continually promote the values that have distinguished the state. Meanwhile, as this particular character emerges, he doesn't come like a lone ranger, he is well accompanied by a character of equal pristine value and stupendous quality. Governor Kayode Fayemi's character has been recurrently acknowledged far and wide. He belongs to a political class of his own; intelligent, outstanding and unpretentious. His wife, though, not really surprising, also belongs to this class.
Erelu Bisi Fayemi, the wife of the governor of Ekiti State has continually shown that, Nigeria has never lost the hope of having quality character in public governance and political admnistration. Ever since her husband has been re-elected as the governor of the southwest state, she has never looked back in ensuring that the people feel the presence of a couple that has devoted most parts of their lives, not just in empowering dreams, but also in contributing to the advancement of a just world, a society where everyone has equal right to life and more importantly in promoting good governance and democratic ideals.
Erelu Bisi Fayemi, as an internationally renowned feminist activist, as well as gender and development specialist, has continually made her worth to be felt as the first lady of Ekiti State where she has been actively involved in a range of policy advocacy, grassroots empowerment and social inclusion programs. This is not just in leading campaigns to enact and institutionalize laws that see to social development, welfare of the people as well as equity and just society, but also in making a lot of interventions in lifting the lives of the citizens beyond pedestrian level in diverse areas. Both in the first coming of her husband, Dr. Kayode Fayemi as Governor of the state, (2010-2014) and in this current administration, Erelu Fayemi, as a global brand and world-class individual, has been rendering resourceful support to her husband, complementing his efforts in ensuring that Ekiti is taken to the height it rightly belongs in the comity of nations.
Born on June 11, 1963, Erelu Bisi Fayemi has a BA (1984) and MA (1988) in History from the University of Ife, Nigeria (now Obafemi Awolowo University). She also received an MA in Gender and Society (1992) from Middlesex University, UK.
She served as the Director of Akina Mama wa Afrika (AMwA), an international development organisation for African women based in London, UK, with an Africa regional office in Kampala, Uganda, from 1991-2001. While she was the Director of AMwA, she established the African Women's Leadership Institute (AWLI), a training and networking forum for young African women. The leadership institute she developed has become such a powerful legacy that today, the AWLI has trained over 6,000 women across Africa, and most of these women are now in senior decision-making positions as Vice-President, Ministers, Members of Parliaments, academics, civil society leaders and employees of international organisations.
She co-founded the African Women's Development Fund, (AWDF) - the first Africa-wide grant-making foundation for women based in Ghana, and served as the first Executive Director from 2001-2010. She currently runs an online community called Abovewhispers.com as well as the Above Whispers Foundation. She was until recently, a UN Women Nigeria Senior Advisor, and is currently a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the Africa Leadership Center, King’s College, London.
A social entrepreneur, policy advocate, and writer of repute, who has written hundreds of articles and essays on feminism, social justice, relationship, inter-generational issues, religion, culture, as well as governance, politics among others, Erelu Fayemi is the author of ‘Speaking for Myself’: Perspectives on Social, Political and Feminist Activism in Africa (2013), ‘Speaking above a Whisper’, (2013) an autobiography and ‘Loud Whispers’ (2017). She also co-edited ‘Voice, Power and Soul’, with Jessica Horn (2008) a compilation of images and stories of African Feminists.

And most importantly, this is the sector that create employment opportunities. According to him, as the world recovers from this pandemic, the Real Estate sector around the world would be in the forefront in the economic recovery process.

“Recently, in the US, the National Association of Home Builders of America stated that the Real Estate sector would provide the most gainful employment for the people. This is because the demand for more conducive accommodation is on the increase. Also, we have many people working in the sector – there are marketers, developers, architects, etc. There are also huge demand for the low and medium income housing as it has been predicted that there are more babies on the way because of the lockdown.” He stated.

Speaking on his post Covid – 19 projections, CEO, Boing Luxury Estate, Mr. Ory Martins stated that Nigeria will not be an exception in the scheme of things as the pandemic has altered our way of lives in so many ways. Government, he said needs to look inwards and reinvent the wheel and start producing those things that we have not been producing within the country.

“Less and less people will look into China now. We have to package our building materials facilities, our agricultural produce and make it attractive to our citizens first and possibly, we can begin to export them” he maintained.

For Mrs. Temi Alade –Mustapha, she strongly advised individuals and corporate organizations to have financial goals which they should strive to work towards. And also, people should focus on the way forward by investing in themselves, set goals generally, invest in viable businesses and more importantly, invest in Real Estate as it is the only guaranteed investment of all times.

The Webinar is the second in the series where industry experts come together to cross fertilize ideas on how to make the Real Estate industry in Nigeria better than what it is and to make people see the inherent opportunities in the sector.

During his presentation, he delved into four major areas where people need to consider very seriously when thinking about investment. These according to him, include: Business, Property, Stocks and Children.

“Life generally, is not able being trendy or being successful in business or not, it’s about being financially intelligent. Some of us are in our mid 40’s on the average, so, what we do today would determine whether we would be comfortable at our retirement or not. We have to be ready to make the necessary sacrifice to ensure a better tomorrow for ourselves, our children and our loved ones. To achieve this, we have to jettison being trendy or buying things on impulse” he stated.

As a Real Estate expert, he emphasized the need for Nigerians to invest in real estate because it is an investment that can stand the test of time. He went on to defineReal Estate as “property consisting of land and the buildings on it, along with its natural resources such as crops, minerals, or water; immovable property of this nature”.

Furthermore, he enunciated some advantages in Real Estate investment compared to other forms of investment. This include but not limited to: 1. You can recover from mistakes in Real Estate but with others you may not. 2. You can work with other people’s money (Leverage). 3. It iseasier to multiply your investment. 4. Value can increase with minimal investment; repairs, infrastructure, repaint etc.

Other advantages include: 5. Unlike other types of investment, you don’t monitor Real Estate every minute. 6. It requires less intellectual input. Just a handful of information is enough. And lastly, it is considered one of the most secured investment you could ever make, that is why banks will take property as equity when you want to borrow from them.

Education / Bisi Fayemi: Making A Case For Reading by Adesinaayo: 3:23pm On May 01, 2019
Years ago, it was a South African writer, Alvin Masarira who opined; “the best way to hide something from the black people is to put it in a book”. Today, the statement is not only still valid but more pronounced. Reading has predominantly fallen off the priority of an average black man. While taking the case closer home, it becomes more crucial, an average Nigerian sees little or no reason to read. Less for examination or job interview, today’s generation doesn’t see reading as an important aspect of life.
Meanwhile, it is no longer news that one of the greatest challenges of this current age, militating against all-round development in this part of the world is the continuous dwindling reading culture among the general populace. The nature of the book notwithstanding, either hard copy or ebook, people these days generally find it difficult to open a book and read. This is however not limited to a particular class of people, status, age or creed.
The most bothersome part of it is that, not only that people no longer read, our leaders do not also read. This is unlike other climes where leaders are readers. This gives reason for the huge difference between the developed and the underdeveloped countries. This is because it is unequivocal that no nation can develop beyond its leadership. The situation is so low to the extent that some of our leaders recruit special aides to read daily newspapers and reveal what therein to them in form of executive summary.
Mores so, it is a universal truism that “you are what you read”, then what happens when you read nothing! An American journalist, Margaret Fuller once said; “today a reader, tomorrow a leader”, the summation here is that leaders must necessarily be familiar with the development in all areas of life. This could be done via reading!
It is said that amazing leaders worldwide have exceptional habits, where chief of them is “reading”. These are great leaders who are also passionate readers. There have been series of stories of how distinguished leaders from politics to business, entertainment as well as arts and science have become phenomenal through the act of reading and have consequently shook their respective worlds positively.
From American billionaire, Bill Gate, whose father, Williams, described as a “voracious reader” from the age of 13, to Guy Kawasaki, the renowned Silicon Valley author, investor and businessman and to shorten the list, we come home to mention Obafemi Awolowo an advent reader who till date had unequalled achievement in Nigerian political administration.
Summarily, books can be best described as the greatest reservoir of history where knowledge is acquired and information is transferred from one generation to another and its significant to this present age can never be overemphasized.
It is a fact that a society that does little or nothing positively about her reading culture, especially that of her younger generation is on the highway to generational mental perdition.
On this note comes a cheery intervention from the wife of the Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi. A writer, policy advocate and feminist scholar who teamed up with a Nigerian multi-concepts firm, OpenWay Global Concepts on this year’s international world book day, April 23, to promote reading culture in Ekiti State and Nigeria at large.
Starting with a 2-kilometre reading awareness walk in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, organised by OpenWay and sponsored by Fayemi’s Above Whispers, an online community initiative, the walk saw youths in their good numbers led by Adesina Adetola, the CEO of OpenWay Global Concepts educating and sensitising the public about the importance and benefits of reading.
The climax of the day’s activities was the reading colloquium where Erelu Fayemi as the guest reader, made a special public reading from one of her books, Loud Whispers. It was an interactive session where the Ekiti First Lady advised Nigerian youths to develop a good reading habit for intellectual benefits.
She said; “sustainable growth and development could only be achieved through adequate and continuous pursuit of knowledge.”
While lamenting the nonchalant attitude of the youths towards reading, Erelu said “the act has constituted clog in the wheel of progress for Nigeria. It is unfortunate that our youths devote their time to frivolities rather than engaging in activities capable of sharpening their intellectual capacity.”
Speaking at the event which was attended by notable state government officials, academics, authors, book critics and advocates as well as hundreds of youths and students, the CEO of OpenWay Global Concepts, Adesina Adetola said; “the event is organised to promote the objective of the world book and copy right day, celebrated every April 23. It is a symbolic date for the world to pay tribute to books and the authors who wrote them.”

According to him, books are formidable tools for national development and agent of change therefore it is necessary to do everything possible to encourage literary works and promote its relevance in national development.
In upholding one of the main objectives of the day which is to contribute to the achievement of the sustainable development goal number four, that is; to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all; Erelu Fayemi declared that the state administration will embark on improving on the public library for the advancement of quality education in the state. According to her, “this will also promote one of the main agendas of the administration which is restoration of our core values.”

Education / Bisi Fayemi To Make A Special Reading, As Ekiti Youths Walk For Book by Adesinaayo: 5:42am On Apr 18, 2019
In order to promote reading culture among the Nigerian populace, a multi-concept firm, OpenWay Global Concepts in conjunction with a nongovernmental organisation, the Convergence is set to stage a reading awareness walk and colloquium on Tuesday, 23rd of April in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital. The event which will feature a special public reading by the wife of Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, will also see a good number of youths drawn from various organisations in the state having a two kilometre walk to create reading awareness.
According to the coordinator of the project, which has the technical support of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Chief Executive Officer of OpenWay Global Concepts, Adesina Adetola, the event is designed among others to promote the objective of the world book and copyright day, celebrated every April 23rd.
He said;” over the years, the dwindling reading culture have been identified as one of the ugly trends in this current age which has evidently become a great challenge to every developmental process at all levels, therefore the need to encourage reading at all strata and in all forms. For every society to attain the net level of development, every leader must be a reader. It is on this ground that UNESCO sets aside every April 23rd to encourage literary works and promote its relevance in national development.”
“It is our belief that the project would certainly contribute to the achievement of the sustainable development goal 4; -to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all’’.
In the same vein Tosin Adara, leader of the Convergence also said that;“the importance of reading can never be overemphasized, it is a fact that you can never grow more than your mental capacity and what you read is whom you are. We are organising this event to rekindle the dying reading culture.”

Politics / CEDESER Collaborates With INEC For Voters’ Sensitisation by Adesinaayo: 5:08pm On Feb 04, 2019
A nongovernmental and public advocacy organisation, Centre for Democracy and Socio Economic Rights (CEDESER) has teamed up with the Independent Electoral Commission INEC, Lagos State to educate the Nigerian voters.
The organisation which embarked on the sensitisation campaign in Ikeja Local Government Area of Lagos encouraged the voters not to allow any situation to disenfranchise them, but to come out on the forthcoming general elections days to perform their civil rights.
The campaign which took the organisation to a good number of popular motor parks and bus stops in the Lagos state capital last weakened saw the organisation telling the people the evils in involving in any act of electoral malpractices. The people were advised not to sell their votes under any reason and should not be involved in ballot stuffing, snatching or any electoral violence.
Speaking in the same vein to the members of Lagos State Artisans and Technician Association at the Ikeja Local Government Secretariat during the campaign, the Executive Secretary, of the organisation, Michael Popoola Ajayi, said every hand must be on deck to ensure the growth of the Nigerian democracy. He encouraged the executives of the association to further educate their members on their responsibilities during and after elections.
Meanwhile as part of the campaign efforts, the organisation also visited some selected churches and mosques in Ikeja and its environs. It used the opportunity to encourage the religious leaders to advise the members of their congregations that haven’t collected their permanent voters’ card PVC to do so at their respective area of registration before the Election Day.

Politics / Ekiti Election: APDA Candidate Berates Government For Non Disclosure Of IGR by Adesinaayo: 1:06pm On Jul 05, 2018
• Says No State Develops Without Accurate Data For Planning
The candidate of the Advanced People’s Democratic Alliance, APDA in the July 14 gubernatorial election in Ekiti State, Barrister Tope Adebayo has berated the incumbent government for non disclosure of the financial status of the state. He decried the unavailability of data required for proper planning towards development of the State. This was on Wednesday at Ekiti 2018 governorship candidate debate organised by “Ekitis in Diaspora”- a group of Ekiti indigenes residing outside the state.
Speaking at the event, Tope Adebayo said; “by the time I commenced my plans to contest this election, I and my team visited the State revenue office in Ekiti to confirm what we generate, the allocation received from Abuja and what the debt profile looks like; there was no reasonable data to answer all these important questions. No data to ascertain what we generate as IGR on monthly or annual basis, there is none to show the number of tax payers in the state, or what we spent on salaries. This is very appalling, because no state or society will be able to provide adequate plan for its future under these circumstances.”
Speaking further, at the event where candidates from other political parties participated, the former student union leader posited that; “no serious state will develop based on speculations and unconfirmed assumptions. The current arrangement in Ekiti State cannot support any move to improve the quality of lives and standard of living”.
Adebayo therefore called on Ekiti electorates to seek an alternative that can guarantee a better future for the state and its people. According to him; “APDA, with its redemption strategy, has the way out of this current economic doldrums. The earning power of the people must be increased by restructuring the economic order through strategic human capital development.” He stated.
Meanwhile, in his closing remarks, an elder statesman and frontline politician, Dr. Kunle Olajide who chaired the occasion decried the economy situation of the state and declared that Nigerian polity needs political restructuring to put the country on the right path.

Politics / My Political Journey A Divine Mission –ayegbusi by Adesinaayo: 11:30am On Jun 23, 2018
The Candidate of the Social Democratic Party in the July 14 governorship election in Ekiti state, Mr Akin Ayegbusi has revealed the secret behind his joining the murky waters of politics to vie for the number one political office in Ekiti state.

He made the exclusive disclosure at a church programme held at Region 25 Headquarters of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Ado Ekiti. The SDP flag bearer who is a Deacon in the church was a Guest of Honour at the church's mid week service where he formally seek the face of God for his campaign tour which commences this week.

Ayegbusi, in the company of his campaign team and party stakeholders declared that he has a special covenant with God to take Ekiti out of Egypt they are currently sojourning.

“My political ambition is not human; if it is human it won’t stand. It is a special ordination that God has made. Ordinarily I won’t be doing this, but for God who has ordained it and assigned this great job to a young man like me. It a divine mission and at the end I am sure it is going to be liberation for Ekiti and its people.” He stated.

Speaking further before the capacity crowd of about 5000 worshippers, Ayegbusi said that he had no interest of contesting the governorship race as at March this year, but has a change of mind in his contact with a senior citizen and a well respected elder statesman in the country, Retired General TY Danjuma.

“It was a meeting I had with the retired General that changed my mind set about politics and how to liberate our people. I'm comfortable with my job and everything was going well for me but it was later the voice came clearer and said to me that this journey is not about me. The evil people will continue to reign if the good people refuse to participate. Since the inception of the current dispensation in 1999, we haven’t got it right. The people have never gotten anything close to the deserved dividend of democracy. The leaders are paying lip service to governance at all levels. I sat down and had a rethink. It is indeed a divine call to service of a fatherland; the manifestation of this was my emergence as the SDP candidate where I defeated established and known politicians in the race. They never gave me a chance. Many still wonder that; who is this small boy? But with God, all things are possible”. He declared.

Meanwhile, the officiating minister, Pastor Goke Kuti while praying for the success of the candidate at the July polls encouraged his members to abstain from any violent act before, during and after the election.
