I really appreciate the gurus on this thread. God will bless u all for these wonderful advice u render who Money can't buy. Like u all know, I am just trying to gather some informations on this thread concerning admission and I also read from several US school websites for admission requirements, etc but at times it could be difficult to understand their websites.
I want to ask these questions: since the vo usually ask the question "how many schools gave u admission" is it advisable for someone to secure like 4 admissions from different schools, or I can just apply for one, get their admission and if the vo ask how many school did I apply, I can just mention 4.
Secondly, when is best someone can get some funding ? Is it fall or spring ?, and also when can a student g a better job opportunity? Is it fall or spring ?
Lastly, can someone with a second class lower from a Nigerian university still get some funding ? Considering the score of 2:2 ( second class lower)
Thanking u and hoping to read responses soon
God bless u all

Start sending your documents NOW!!. Most schools deadline for Spring admission is around Sept/Oct/Nov. Check the application deadline of your school. Just make sure all your document get to the school before the admission deadline!..
Thanks bro

Then check the admission requirement very well, you still have so many documents left to be submitted,.. Go and order for your GRE and TOEFL additional report to be sent to the school test code.. Likewise the Recommendation letters from your lecturers & SOP even before sending your statement of account...you should have read everything and understand how its done na.. Your homework never complete bro!.
Thanks a lot bro. But for Spring 2016 admission, when can I start sending all these to the school? Can I start from now for the spring 2016 next year admission?
Also, all these documents (recommendations from my profs, transcripts, certificate, gre,TOEFL, etc) will all arrive the schools at different days and dates, does it not mean? Or must all those documents gets to the school all at the same time?thanks

Why don't you check the school admission requirement for international students!.
Most schools require the test score to be sent directly from ETS. Well, if you've done those tests before why don't you send an additional report to the school..
Your lecturers need to send recommendation letters to the school on your behalf and you still need to write a statement of purpose to the school..
You can't just expect an admission without all these..BTW, what is d name of the school?

Hello' the great ones, please concerning the funding issues, do I have to secure an admission first before looking if the school will offer any form of funding ? Or is there a way someone will know if the particular school will offer someone funding even before applying. Because all I want is at least 50% tuition funding
Thanks

I just wish to remain in the US after my masters and OPT, but now that mph only offers a 12 months OPT, should I look for the masters that will offer a 27 months OPT ?
What I want is just to remain in the US and be working there legally
Thanks

I don't think MPH is part of STEM.
If you choose go back to school, you don't have to leave to get another visa stamping since you will still be in F-1 status. If however you decide to go outside the country to say Nigeria for some personal reasons, then you will need to go for visa stamping; which you can always do in Canada or Mexico before travelling or in Nigeria when you get there.
Keep in mind that a visa is an entry document, all you need to care about while in the US is maintaining your status.
I read something like MPH is eligible for a one year OPT there can't be any further extension after the one year OPT unlike some other courses where their OPT can be extended by another 17months or so
Pls is this correct ?

Cyclotron:
It's all about packaging and endurance bro, because it can't just land on your doorstep like that (depending on the school, your course/program and your profile (ie your academic background and work experience). Hence, just like Walspring said , you have to do vigil all day and night trying to do the following:

(1) Get a school of your choice.
(2) Check out for professors you can work with in your department as a Graduate Assistant (either Research Assistant or Teaching Assistant** although the TA is mostly for PhD students).
(3) Study the professor's profile. Know his/her research area if you are going for RA position, or you go for TA position if you have the required skills (both academic and personal).
(4) Construct a concise email that you will send the professor. Please don't make these mistakes at this stage:
(a) Sending "....... please I need funding" or sending something that looks like a generic email. Present yourself properly and don't go straight to funding like Bigfrancis said earlier "don't be direct....". Talk about the knowledge you will gain and not the funds.
(b) Don't email two professors in a department @ a time(a week interval is OK), because you don't know if they are close & also their discussions. It can show that you are just desperate.

Then you have to expect snubs, rejections (out of funds) and acceptances from the different profs you emailed.
However, in some PhD programs, you don't have to contact any prof before getting a Graduate Assistantship (tuition waiver + monthly stipend & others) but as for masters, you have to do it (in most cases) or all you can get is just 50% scholarship base on your academic background.

NB: Most funds (full) are given in Fall and I guess you are running out of time. But nothing is impossible bro, maybe one has been waiting for you.

Hope it helps!! smiley
It helps a lot. Thanks and I really appreciate u. I will do as u have adviced. God bless

There is an employer route to getting a Green card, but takes a while.

Basically after studies, you look for a job and start your OPT-2 years(+extension for STEM grads). During that time your employer must start your H-1B filing and you need to be selected in the lottery(You have a better chance if you completed your MS or PhD),; or you need to look for another company to file for you. H1B is valid for 3 years after which they can extend for another 3. During that time, your employer has to start your Employer-Based(EB) Green card; or you need to look for a company willing to sponsor you.

There are other ways to remain in the US legally if things don't work as I explained, one of which is going back to school( for another MS or a PhD) and remaining on F-1 status, among other possibilities.
Really grateful to u. U have just given me a vital information that money can never buy.
God bless u abundantly
I plan doing Masters in Public Health, MPH.
Pls is it under STEM ?
Secondly, going back to P.hD or another masters, will the F1 visa be applied for again in Nigeria, or right there in the US
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 7 by adewoleray: 10:04pm On Jul 08, 2015
Chemical2:
Yes, If your course is designated as STEM you can have OPT (including extension) for 29 months, after which you will need sponsorship by your company. That work authorization is called H1B. Not all company is willing to sponsor H1B and you cannot sponsor yourself. Initial H1B is valid for 3 years and can be renewed for another 3 years. Hope that helps

As regards greencard after your masters you can sponsor yourself through the National Interest Waiver programme. You must have published a good number of papers in respected journals and must show that you are pioneering a novel research that has not been done before or you get a company to sponsor your greencard. You can also get a greencard by getting married to a citizen.
Thanks a lot, this is really helpful, but pls, is MPH under stem ?

Pls, I want to ask. I learnt on this forum that after Masters programme, one will do OPT which will keep one in the US for at least another 2 years, but after the OPT, what happens ? Will they expect someone to return back to Nigeria ? Or can someone still remain legally in the Usa ?
Secondly, what's the possibility that someone can get a greencard after the masters in the US
Thanks

Good Morning, I need your advice.
I have admission offer of MSc from a University in Ohio. The offer is with GTA, therefore it is fully funded (full tuition waiver) and a generous monthly stipends. I have to provide for health insurance, mandatory fees and upkeep. The total amount I need to show is $6k. I have well over this amount in my statement. Also, I have a B1/B2 which is still valid for over a year now. Please what are:
1) My chances of obtaining F1 visa
2) Has anyone with full funded admission letter being declined before.
Thanks
Bros, pls how can I get this same offer? Pls tell me

I have a question about this b1/b2 visa. I am a 33 yrs old US Citizen and my girlfriend of 6months is from Nigeria. she is 24 yrs old. She currently has a b1/b2 visa that is valid until 2017 and visit's me in Texas often. We would like to get married here in the US during her next visit in December, she will be here for 3 weeks and will return to Nigeria in January 2016. I know that it is ok for us to marry in US with her passport as ID as long as she intends to return to Nigeria and not stay in US. When she returns in January I will like to file for CR1 spouse visa so I must do the I-130 petition and I-864 affidavit of support correct? I make more than enough and meet the 2014 hhs poverty guidelines. I know she has to do medical exam and vaccination as well and I also understand she has to file an I-485?

My other question is, she was once married before when she was young, she was 23 years old and got divorced only after a year at 24years old. She has a divorce certificate

How difficult can I expect this to be to obtain a GC for her ?Also when I file for the i 130 and it's in processing how does that affect my Girlfriends b1/b2 visa? Will she still be able to visit the US while the petition is going on ?
