Politics / President Jonathan Presents Handover Notes To Buhari by Adextaiwo48(m): 2:46pm On May 28, 2015 |
President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday formally presented his hand over notes to the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari. The presentation was done inside the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, shortly after Jonathan conducted Buhari round the seat of power. Vice President Namadi Sambo had also similarly conducted the Vice President-elect, Yemi Osinbajo, round his wing of the villa. Jonathan presented an executive summary of his hand over notes and a copy of the report of the National Conference to Buhari in the presence of All Progressives Congress chiefs who accompanied him to the event. In his remarks, Jonathan said his administration had done its best for the country. Buhari said he would not make a bold statement until after studying the handover notes. He however commended Jonathan for conceding defeat in the March 28 Presidential election. He said the outgoing President could have made things difficult if he wanted to do so.

Politics / We Were Never On Strike- Depot Owners by Adextaiwo48(m): 7:43am On May 27, 2015 |
The Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association (DAPPMA) have denied ever embarking on any shut-down of their depots and facilities. In a statement on Tuesday the Executive Secretary of DAPPMA, Mr. Olufemi Adewole, said that contrary to the notion that they had shut down their depots, it was the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) arm of the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas workers (NUPENG) and the National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), which transports petroleum products that embarked on the strike. He said the strike was caused by complaints of not being paid by marketers. Adewole said: “We have maintained that we would sell and load all petroleum products available to us even as delays in the payments of our reimbursement have continued to impede and adversely affect our operations. The suspension in loading in the last few days has been due to the strike embarked upon by PTD-NUPENG and NARTO. These two bodies had refused to load out/lift petroleum products for distribution from our depots,” He described the allegation by the Managing Director of Capital Oil, Mr. Ifeanyi Ubah that DAPPMA member companies embarked on a strike as completely false. According to him, Capital Oil and Gas Industries Limited does not participate in the petroleum subsidy scheme having been disqualified from the PSF scheme’ by the government regulatory agency hence they do not import petrol. “The company is not owed a kobo under the PSF scheme as they cannot make any claim hence they do not feel the impact of non-payment of subsidy reimbursements, instead, the company stores petroleum products for NNPC/PPMC under a through arrangement as do a few other members of our association,” “We reiterate that since the unions embarked on this action, we have been dialoguing with them to seek amicable ways of resolving this logjam bearing in mind its harrowing and debilitating impact on the Nigerian public and the masses,” He stated that at the Senate Petroleum Committee’s sitting last Monday, that the situation between depot owners/marketers and the Federal Ministry of Finance and all other stakeholders have been resolved.

Politics / Strike Paralyses Governmental Activities In C’ River, Osun, Oyo by Adextaiwo48(m): 7:36am On May 27, 2015 |
PUBLIC workers residing in rented apartments in Calabar have now formed the habit of avoiding their landlords following the irregular payments of salaries by the state government. They lamented their plight to one of our correspondents on Tuesday just as the organised labour union formally declared an indefinite strike over unpaid salaries. Also, the strike embarked upon by civil servants in Oyo and Osun states has paralysed governmental activities in the states. Public teachers shunned schools while public offices including the government secretariats were closed. Workers in Cross River said the situation had forced them to beg owners of private schools to give them time to pay their children’s school fees. A worker in one of the ministries, Mr. John Umo, said, “For those of us leaving in rented apartment, we now run away from our landlords since our rents are due to avoid public disgrace. Our colleagues who have managed to own their homes are lucky.” Another worker, Mrs. Clara Adah, said, “We now borrow to survive. We cannot pay school fees of our wards. We now beg proprietors or proprietress of private school, to allow our children attend school on credit or pay in installments. Governor Liyel Imoke had, during the May 1 Workers’ Day rally, promised that his administration would commence the payment of the March salaries on or before May 5, and subsequently defray others before handing over on May 29. But the labour union said in spite of this assurances, workers’ salaries had not been paid. In Osogbo, the Osun State capital, workers in the employment of Osun State Government on Tuesday complied with the strike order by the labour unions in the state. One of our correspondents, who visited some government offices on Tuesday, observed that they were shut and there were no sign of business in many of them. The state Government Secretariat at Abere was a ghost of itself when one of our correspondents visited the place. Some students of public schools who had gone to schools were seen returning home as early as around 9.30am. The situation was the same in Oyo State. However, the state government has called on its striking civil servants to demonstrate greater understanding of the situation which has affected the payment of salaries as and when due and call off their strike. The state’s Head of Service, Mr. Soji Eniade, who made the call while addressing newsmen in his office in Ibadan on Tuesday, urged the workers to resume work and allow for further negotiations to be made between labour and government. |
Science/Technology / Countries With The Fastest Internet Speed In The World by Adextaiwo48(m): 9:57pm On May 26, 2015 |
Lagos state reportedly boasts of the fastest internet speed in Nigeria with about 4.08Mbps (Megabits per second). Abuja comes next with an average of 3.34Mbps, and all the other states fall in behind. If you think that is fast, wait until you see what is happening in other parts of the World. The no 10 country on this list has an average internet speed of 12.1Mbps! We haven’t started in Nigeria at all, we are what you would call ‘learners’. 10. Finland Average Mbps: 12.1. Politics / Osun Workers Declares Indefinite Strike Over Unpaid Salaries by Adextaiwo48(m): 2:39pm On May 25, 2015 |
Labour unions in Osun State on Monday declared a total strike to press home their demand for payment of their six-month salaries. The Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Mr. Jacob Adekomi, who read the address of the labour unions at a press conference in Osogbo, said the strike would begin on Tuesday, May 26, after the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum given to the state government. The address read, “That an indefinite strike action be commenced by all the workers in the State of Osun as from Tuesday, May 26, 2015 due to the failure of the government to accede to our legitimate demands, as contained in our letter to the government dated May 12, 2015. “The indefinite strike action will be total and by this billeting, workers are advised to stay at home while pressing home our demands. That no worker should resume work until announcement is made by the labour bodies to that effect.” The labour union alleged that apart from the salary issue, the state government had refused to remit the contributory pension deductions from their salaries to their respective retirement saving accounts Cc seun ishilove Lalasticlala |

Politics / Kashamu Aka 'god' To Appear Before Court Today. by Adextaiwo48(m): 9:09am On May 25, 2015 |
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has advised the Senator-elect for Ogun-East senatorial district, Mr. Buruji Kashamu, to concentrate his effort on defending himself before the Federal High Court where he is expected to appear on Monday (today). The agency reiterated that the decision to drag him before the court followed a formal request for his extradition by the United States. In a statement by its Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Ofoyeju Mitchell, on Sunday, the NDLEA urged Kashamu to save his energy for the hearing of the extradition application. Kashamu is the Chairman, Organisastion and Mobilisation Committee of the PDP in the South-West and he was a staunch supporter of President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election bid. He fell out with former President Olusegun Obasanjo and teamed up with President Goodluck Jonathan during the battle for the control of the party in Ogun State. The agency said it was wrong of Kashamu to finger Obasanjo and a leader of the PDP in Lagos State, Chief Bode George, as being behind his present travails. According to the NDLEA, Kashamu had been on the wanted list of both the US Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement of the Department of Homeland Security. The statement read in part, “According to an official report, Kashamu has been on the wanted list of both the US Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement of the Department of Homeland Security. “Kashamu was indicted in the Northern District of Illinois, United States, on charges brought against him by ICE. “According to the United States court documents, Kashamu in his days as the leader of a prolific heroin-trafficking ring based in Chicago, Illinois, was known as ‘god,’ ‘Daddy, and ‘Kasmal.’ He is wanted to stand trial for charges of conspiracy and importation of controlled substances, namely heroin, into the United States dating back to 1994. “Kashamu, who holds dual Nigerian/Beninoise citizenship, has taken multiple pre-emptive actions to thwart US extradition efforts such as claiming that he was being mistaken for his deceased brother whom he claimed committed the alleged offences in the US.” The statement also said that Kashamu had filed injunctions at courts in the Northern District of Illinois, United States, and in Nigeria to prevent his arrest and prosecution. The NDLEA said, “These are issues that Kashamu should prepare to address rather than point accusing fingers at eminent elder statesmen who have no connection with the ongoing investigative process. The senator who was placed on house arrest at the weekend is expected to appear in court in less than 24 hours. “We expect Kashamu, as a distinguished senator-elect, to demonstrate ample confidence in the Nigerian judicial system and stop the blame game.” Meanwhile, armed NDLEA operatives have gained access into the residence of the embattled politician, where he has been confined to his bedroom. His lawyer, Ajibola Oluyede, who spoke with our correspondent near the residence, on Sunday, said Kashamu had not been allowed to leave his bedroom since Saturday. Oluyede said, “He has been locked inside the room while about 15 armed operatives are in the house. As I speak to you, I have not even seen him. We have only been talking through the door. This is disheartening because his little children and his pregnant wife are all in the house with him.” When asked to comment on the allegation that Kashamu threatened suicide, the lawyer said, “He is obviously traumatised but I wouldn’t say he is suicidal.” Oluyede alleged that the NDLEA had no plan of taking Kashamu to court on Monday (today) but only later decided to do so because the media got involved. “Their plan was to get him as early as 4am and put him on the plane to the United States. It was never their plan to take him to court. It was when the media reported the incident that they decided to take him to court,” he said. About 15 patrol vehicles were seen blocking all entries that lead to Kashamu’s home while over 20 security agents were seen patrolling the street. Residents of the estate were made to take alternative routes as all roads leading to Kashamu’s home were blocked. In his reaction, the media aide to Kashamu, Austin Oniyokor, however, berated the drug agency, accusing it of being the mouthpiece of Obasanjo and George. The statement said, “We do not know when the NDLEA becomes the spokespersons for Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and Chief Bode George. We do not need them to tell us to address our issues. “We are addressing our issues. We had told the court of the planned abduction of Kashamu and the NDLEA was represented. The court had given an order asking all the parties to stay action, pending the determination of the suit which had been fixed for Wednesday.” Oniyokor explained that Kashamu refused to hand himself over to the NDLEA operatives, who stormed his Lagos residence on Ladipo Street, Lekki Phase 1, on Saturday, because they could not produce a warrant of arrest. He said if the NDLEA provides a warrant of arrest against Kashamu, the PDP chieftain would “hand himself over to them but if not, he will not.” But a member of PDP Board of Trustees, Chief Ebenezer Babatope, described the allegation by Kashamu that George was behind his travails as sad and ridiculous. A statement by Babatope on Sunday said, “It is sad and ridiculous of Senator-elect, Chief Buruji Kashamu, to accuse Chief Bode George of being behind his current ordeal with the men of the NDLEA. “This allegation is not true. I have known George for over 46 years and I know him never to go on a witch-hunt of anyone as a result of personal differences or disagreements. Though the wife of George is the Director-General of the NDLEA, he can never attack the person of Kashamu. “I call on Kashamu to look somewhere else in locating those who might have been involved in his travails.” Source :www.punchng.com Cc : Seun, Lalasticlala, Ishilove |

The Border >> On the border line >> Don't know if to move left or right >> The tree on the right, serpent on the left >> In the middle of Eden, the knowledge of good and evil i lack >> What is right or wrong i know not >> The serpent whispers, the fruit on the tree blooms,God watches >> Who to obey i know not >> >> On the border line >> No harbour nor shelter i can take refuge >> Life is hard, heaven uncertain >> Being on the battlefield unprepared, death knocking hard on my bamboo door >> The older i grow, the louder the knock >> Like a deity whose worshippers rejected i stand >> I'm the confused one on a crossroad with no compass >> >> On the border line >> Tick tick i can hear, time moving nearer >> The ripe fruit the sad ones >> The secret they says is how to die >> Life's short, death a long and silent thing >> How to die,i know not >> If the secret is really how to die then the cat is still in the bag >> >> On the border line >> I can neither move left nor right >> So I'd rather embrace the line >> My beloved country stuck on a line >> Forward nor backward It move not >> Blessed with all but everything it lacks >> When today's youths will lead, only tomorrow can tell >> On the border line, my thoughts my compass!!! |
