You are right about the MSc but I did not put my work experience when I registered. I did that because, they will still give me EIT whether I get 50 year work experience or not.
However, I compared my course modules during my undergrad with the courses required for an Electrical and Electronics Engineer in Canada and I saw that I did more than was required. So, I knew I was good to go.

I also read on their website then that if they gave someone from your Uni with the same course EIT without requiring exams, it means they are happy with the course modules being taught for the course in your school.

Hi sisto, abeg have you read/ come across anyone that got direct GIT or EIT with only a first degree from O.A.U ? I.e without having to write exams.

Awww! Kudos to you guys, una three much! Glittering star kiss
PPR landed last week o. Got a double miracle. PPR came in the morning, & then my school's senate approved my PhD thesis that afternoon... PPR+PhD= God's Overwhelming Joy! Now ready to port!
Timeline:
CRS score: 464
1st ITA: Jan 11, 2017
2nd ITA: April
AOR: June 14
Meds passed: July 10
IP1 & NA2: July 11
Transfered to London VO: August 23
IP2: November 22nd
ADR: Nov 24; RPRF & Updated POF
ADR Submitted: Nov 28
PPR: Nov 29!
God is faithful!

Declined the first ITA because POF had only been in my acct for 3 months, I wanted to show it had been there for over 6months....won't advice anyone to wait that long cos of that.

A part of my work history was self-employed. For this, I included CAC registration, 6 months bank statement, a reference letter written by the company administrator, and a similar reference letter written by a client (regular payments from the client showed on the account statement). Got no ADR on employment.

LVO wait is not a "small something" especially when one keeps seeing Ottawa timelines almost as fast as the speed of light. Puts one in a state of limbo!
So happy the Canadian dream is almost a reality!

Special thanks to Dupyshoo, God blessed that babe with patience extraordinare. Thanks to all those who also answered all my numerous questions early last year, vcole, JesusDway, Zandora, physiobabe, e.t.c may we all flourish in the "PROMISED LAND.

I 'm not a troublesome person so I will tender an apology to those people I have insulted. Yes it is quite annoying when people don't read up and ask questions that have been answered a million times. It doesn't give you the right to be rude. I have seen people direct newbies to page 0 with tact and politely at that. We can all do that. That you have been on nairaland since you were born don't mean you should Lord it over anybody.
That being said I'm sorry to those I have slighted. Let's kiss and make up kiss kiss kiss

Please for someone that doesn't know how to drive, is it advisable to learn it here in nigeria or when landed in Canada.

Secondly, what's the difference btw these classes of licenses, does it mean the lower ones can't drive on some roads or what?

Thanks.
To save cost, its adviceable you learn here in Naija and practice to perfection while at it. The cost of learning from scratch in Canada is relatively astronomical as compared to learning in Nigeria.

London VO! I just tire.In the early days, I used to hate Boss13's guts, felt he was overbearing, shoving his opinions down people's throats. Hmm,however, these days, I agree almost 100% wt him even though he goes overboard once in a while. The wait is no joke! 5months post AOR and LVO is still saying file awaiting review! They haven't even touched it at all since it was transfered to them. One is just in limbo. And to add salt to the existing injury you keep seeing applications that took roughly 16-22 days from AOR to PPR! Anyways in God we trust, would soon sing my victory song. I just dey console myself say its 6months average processing time they told us ab initio. Fingers crossed and calmly waiting. Phew!

Hello everyone,

Please i have two questions.

1. I GOT MY U.K POLICE CERTIFICATE IN FEBRUARY AHEAD OF I.T.A WHICH I EVENTUALLY GOT IN THE LAST DRAW. BUT WHILE I WAS WAITING FOR MY ITA. I VISITED THE U.K FOR 5 DAYS LAST MONTH . DO I NEED TO GET A NEW POLICE CERT, CONSIDERING THE FACT THAT IT WAS JUST A SHORT VISIT.

2. HOW DO I REDUCE FILE SIZE OF PDF DOCUMENTS. MY PASSPORT TRAVEL PAGES MAKE UP 8MB AND WE R ONLY ALLOWED TO UPLOAD 4MB. DOES ANYONE KNOW ANY APP OR METHOD THAT CAN ASSIST WITH REDUCING THE SIZE.

ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED. THANKING YOU ALL IN ADVANCE.
1.You need a fresh UK PCC since you've visited the UK since the last time you got one. Don't risk it, not worth it especially since its "cheap and straightforward".
2.Use small pdf

Hi all, eku 3 days! The thread has really grown! Congrats to the new mamas and papas.
I've got a quick question please. How long can one keep a visa application fee payment for? Let me try putting it in a clearer way...for how long would a visa fee remain valid if one misses a prior scheduled appointment, any deadline at which the person must re-book or forfeit the application fees?

Calgary:
Pros. warmer weather, larger Nigerian community, more multicultural, stampede, close to banff, real international airport, very good transport system (ctrain), no pst, a little lower income tax, easy access to tranacanada highway, calgary zoo.

cons: lots of police and traffic cameras..very easy to get traffic tickets lol, crime rate has risen, schools are becoming overcrowded (the city is fast developing), longer wait times at hospital emergency ward,

Regina
Pro: less traffic, lot of government jobs, easy access to transcanada highway, less populated, easier to get jobs, cheaper housing, summer is warmer, car insurance is cheaper (government owned), phone bills and internet are cheaper(government owned). People are friendlier

cons: Winter is colder, nightlife is poor, not many places to shop, property taxes are high, 6% PST, beer is more expensive.lol
Thanks boss! Seems I'm tilting more towards Regina. Probably to start with, then move as the job train directs. The cold though cry . Checked out the PST, seems Sask's rate is low as compared to other provinces with PST (i.e asides the ones with 0 PST like Alberta&Yukon).

The process is so slow and inefficient. There are several stages involved. Once your WES course by course report is received, it will be reviewed by APEGA staff and then it will be on the queue for academic review. The board of examiner review, which is the last stage is after academic review.

Sincerely, it is unreasonable to claim one is not yet an Engineer until you have got 1 year Canadian experience. Also, I don't see why it should take 10 months to verify what WES has verified.

Makes me wonder if APEGA is relatively "more lenient " than the Regina body despite the prolonged processing times. Was thinking it'll be the other way round. Would just tell hubby to go ahead with his APEGA registration jejely and if we later decide on Regina he'll have his APEGA "converted".

Wooow where in the UK may be I should move back.

Decent one bedroom is like 800 pounds that like 1300 cad compared to 900-1000 in canada

Bus pass zone 1-4 is 180 pounds that 300 cad.. compared to 120 in canada
Typical Londoner tongue.Try the East midlands.
@ Vcole, like how much should we budget for day home? Toddler 2.5yrs old. Just thinking, don't churches organize creches or day homes at a relatively cheaper cost? Or what other cost effective alternative(s) are available?

I don't quite agree though. Rent is more expensive in the UK at least in London. A 2 bedroom townhome in Essex is in the £1200/mth range and this usually doesn't include utilities. Heating in d UK is way more expensive. A 2 bedroom townhome in SW Calgary is circa $1500/mth with utilities. Transportation in London is also more expensive. A month transit pass in Calgary (bus and train) is circa $101/mth. In London a monthly bus and tram pass is £81.50 for about zones 1-6. I don't believe that pass covers travel on the tube and rail. It also doesn't cover travel out of those zones.
Wouldn't equate London to Calgary, maybe to Vancouver or Toronto, and then Calgary to probably Manchester or Nottingham grin. A one month bus pass in Notts is abt £50, £40 for students, and a 2bedroom in a good neighborhood is in the range of 400-600£.

Hey girl. Well to be honest you have to land before you give birth so that the baby gets Canadian citizenship. Your copr notification letter even specifically states that if you are pregnant you should land before you give birth. However if you do give birth before a decision has been reached on your pr app then you should notify ircc immediately you are delivered of the addition to your family so they can include the baby in your app.

On to how to cope while expectant. I think it depends on your personality. I can't say that it was difficult for me....it was challenging but not difficult.....maybe I already gave myself a mental session before arrival that helped keep me positive and energized, iunno but what I do know is that you would be fine. Medical there's a lot ofemcouragiand even post partum.....its great for you because you'll always have some support. It would be harder if you have older kids most specifically an active toddler like I do but you would cope. Don't be disillusioned in that regard. You'll pace yourself and move at your own speed.
Thanks babe, that's encouraging. Boosted my morale.

Things are far cheaper in the Uk as compared to Canada even when the £ was stronger than 1.65 cad. Comparatively, rent is cheaper, food is cheaper and transportation is also way cheaper.

£44k is alot of money in the UK atleast in my industry and that of my wife. e.g In the electrical T & D industry out west, that is around the starting wage for our electricians and technologist (OND level) here. Engineers starts around 90k and in 5 to years could go up to around $140k.. Another 40k from OT is easily obtainable across all cadre.

Those in the oil industry make around double of that.

What province was the job you saw located? I am guessing eastern provinces.

Same for my wife's industry in healthcare. The wage in the UK is just about half of her earnings in CA. In the science, health and tech industry, wages vary accross Canada typically in a west vs east scenario. e.g The big cities jobs starting wage for my wife out east is around $39/hr. While in the west...it starts at around $47.
Cost of living is also higher in Canada as compared to the Uk. So I guess it balances out in the end.

Please our seniors in the house especially those in the construction related field, i would like to know what career path would be cool (in terms of pay, job security and probably possibility of working with the govt.) for someone who had a first degree in Quantity Surveying and M.Sc in Estate management. I have done a brief research on my own and found out that for me to practice Quantity Surveying, i need to become a member of Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors and of course i'll need to do some courses within the institute and take professional exams. Also for me to be a Certified Property Manager (CPM) i'll have to spend 3 years of qualifying experience before taking Exams. Please i'll need advice on the prospect of these two professions in Canada.

I also found a Graduate diploma course in Construction management which when completed will help me on the path of becoming a Construction Manager. i really wouldn't mind taking the diploma course as it will add up to my Canadian education experience and certificate but i really don't have any idea of how the Construction job opportunities are and if construction opportunities varies based on different provinces. I will appreciate a more detailed advice and insight on this Construction management path.

May i also add that i have passion for the IT world and wouldn't mind starting afresh on the IT career path as IT seems to be a sort after profession in Canada and the world at large. Please kindly advice a brother on some short courses that could set me going on the IT path.

Thank you and God bless

@adiahabasi

I can only comment based on my experience thus far which is most likely limited in its scope. I like Calgary, it's a lovely city. The areas to avoid based on popular opinion, is the north east and some parts of south east. Incidences of crime and addiction are higher there.
However, I've been to areas in the SE like McKenzie towne, new Brighton, milrise which are all very lovely areas. I've been to the NE a few times and I think it's probably one of the old areas in Calgary. During the day, it appears fine to me. It's more commercialised as well. Lots of Asian shops.
Generally, downtown which is the business district is best avoided at night as well. I think this rule applies to all urban cities.

The NE is also the area to purchase halal meats , frozen fish, tomatoes and stuff in bulk at cheap prices. Also car repair shops are cheaper there. I recently got my car tyres changed at $35/each as service charge in the SW and apparently found out there's a shop in the NE that does it for $20/each.

School districts. I don't know much about this but I do know that the SW has good school districts. You can easily find out by checking the school ratings in Alberta online.

High brow areas in Calgary. Aspen in the SW and Chestermere in the NW. I've been to both. That's where you see houses that stand on an acre of land with each driveway displaying range rovers, Mercedes etc etc. The 2 persons I've visited there are Nigerians. One is a medical doctor and another is a successful business owner.

Getting stuff at bargain prices. kijiji.ca is the way to go. Also varagesale app for the Calgary area. Initially kijiji was a bit frustrating for me to use because I felt there were way too many posts and having to wade through it seemed like a herculean task. However, it is still the place to go. You can get unbelievable deals. For instance we bought our deep freezer for $20 off someone who posted it on kijiji. She just needed it gone as she was moving. We also got our car off someone on kijiji for a really good price. It's also a good forum to list stuff you wanna give away for free or sell. People even list their businesses (mostly franchises) on kijiji for sale.
Awww Vcole, God bless you plenty plenty kiss

Does anyone know the cost of medicals at Children's practice and that of Q-Life for children and babies? I need to compare the overall costs so that i will know which is cheaper for my large family.
Consultant's practice charge a flat rate for everyone, whereas Q-life charges way lower for babies and children, can't rem exactly how much.If you have kids go with Q-life, just that you have to book ahead.
