horlahsunbo225: Your verbal is really strong for a Nigerian. Quant is decent, verbal is very strong. Overall, you have done well. Well done. For top schools, these are probably decent scores - quant not so high for top schools, but you should still try, who knows, especially if you have exceptional something in other places. You should also try some middle and safety schools.. You can send me a message, and let's see what is possible. |

Curious2020: Even me here have been shamed before, lol. It made me laugh. I asked one guywith naija OND or HND, not sure, how he was able to achieve his impressive feat of going for graduate studies in the US. Man, the guy responded to other questions and ignore my own. He blanked my question. LOL. I no believe am. That was the day I learnt something. If people say "we are helping each other and collaborating", it may not mean like that oo. You only know your own self, you don't know anyone else. I was disappointed. No be me need the info. I wanted that info to see how I may help a friend. Someone else was trying to formulate a rather weak argument about "teaching how to fish" as a reason for not responding. I laughed again. If the bros shared his experience about how him take enter US university with him HND, won't me AND thousands other people - which include my friends - learn? Man, I have resorted to not have headache because of other people behaviour. Just help those you can help. I commend the excellent work that some helpers have been doing here. And in my small small ways, I have been doing all I can to help too. I receive many emails from people and try to share experiences that I thought might help them. Finally, that SOME people are playing games does not mean others should stop helping. On average, the spirit of this thread is wonderful, and posterity will remember all of us and smile. Janet200: Lol - in Nigeria you don't give people full details about your success, or so they say, so that someone will not magically come and pour sand sand for your garri. Lol I once gave a lady a list of 20 CVs to hire someone for an RA position. Na favour I do the lady oo. Then few days later, I asked her "so who did you employ from that list". She said, for now, it is personal...LOOOOOOL. Seriously? I wanted to fly. No be me give you CVs. Hahahahaha 6 Likes |

AnotherEvkunle: Confidentiality? Is it something illegal? If my scores are great and would encourage others, then it's GREAT to post it. So the point about not wanting to post details is so so. If you're publicly advertising such nice scores, I think it's only natural to publicly defend the scores with evidence. 2 Likes |

Evkunle: Your posts sound interesting. I am interested in your "guaranteed" GRE score of 325. To proceed, I have two questions 1. I would like to see the score sheets of at least 5 of your former students who scored 325 and above. I think that would be a more convincing evidence. I would also like to connect with these former students and see where they have gotten full scholarship 2. I would like to know the track record of your tutors, the people who teach these exams. Specifically, to know their scores on GRE and GMAT 3. I would like to be promised a full money refund if it turns out to be the same 140+/150+ situation. If You sufficiently provide evidence 1 and 2, and agree to 3, then I will give you a call to discuss how we may partner with you, basically sending you 5 - 10 students at least, every year 5 Likes |

maja01: Good score - congrats. Hmmm, about schools. I don't really know engineering. But I would suggest you get into the best place that your profile can take you. Contact the Naija profs in engineering at Stanford, MIT, Michigan and I forget the other ones. Display your profile and candidly ask them if you have a chance at their schools/programs. I know of a 4.50ish guy who got into either MIT or Harvard. There is a Naija prof in that faculty. Regardless of what these Naija profs say, in your shoes, I would still try out one or two top programs, 3 or 4 mid ranking programs, and like 5 low ranked programs in your engineering. This is assuming you have up to 300-500 dollars to sink into these applications, and I am also assuming you have profs who will write top stellar letters for you, and that other parts of your profile are bam, perhaps even bammer than your GPA/GRE. There is a nairaland boy here who got into Stanford. He is elect elect. You can look into his profile to get more idea. All the best with your plans. 2 Likes |

Soar19: If someone has around A1 maths, around A1 further-maths, this is what I meant by foundation - and this is an "on average" or "in general" statement. This same reason explains why the modal blasters of this GRE stuff are mainly the engineering guys or science guys in Nigeria. On average, they have stronger elementary math foundation. Your university accounting math and stats courses were not rigorous enough - no math done at business and econs departments/faculties in Nigeria is rigorous, except actuarial science people, and these guys mostly take real math - sometimes at math departments. You will say I'm generalizing, but I am not. Your scores fall into the range of an average Nigerian test taker. Our average in Nigeria is around your score....But I think you could bring it up if you work for a sustained period, maybe 4 months to 1 year of hard, intense work, because some things still need to develop somewhere. And, as someone above said, spend time to learn the tricks too. And for any undergrad reading this thread, if you know you want to go US grad school later, then start prepping for GRE/GMAT from year 1, and even saving some money to take the test many many times, each time practicing hard, until you eventually nail it, hopefully. This is assuming these tests are still required because I am hearing schools are planning to cancel it. Such cancellation will have its own problems because it would likely become harder for international students to get a chance for full scholarships at these schools. GRE has been roughly a way for internationals to outperform americans and get considered. 2 Likes |

Ikenna04: Very good SAT score. Well done. As per your main question, I don't have an answer. I'm a big supporter of studying in Nigeria, doing very well before going abroad for more studies. But good luck with your search for generous undergrad scholarships! 1 Like |

Mickeywilliams: Depends on your existing foundation. I have found that GRE scores correlate decently with secondary school achievements. So if you did extremely very well in secondary school and understood most things in maths and english, then 1 month "might" be enough to get a good score, i.e. quant >160, verbal >150. I have heard of some people who revised for 2 weeks and got better than these scores. However, if this is not the case, then you may need many more months to prepare really very hard, to hopefully get a good score. Speak to the guy above who got outstanding GRE scores and ask him for his tricks. All exams have tricks. I wish you all the best |

Herbertstan: I think if you coordinate well, you can go to very top schools in the US, not just any school. There is a boy here who got into Stanford with your same GPA, but engineering. His GRE was very/excellent too and comments about his score led to a long debate. He hasn't even done MSc - US don;t need MSc for the most part. I strongly believe your profile has a big potential for top places, or at least places just below the top. Come back to these threads when you have your GRE scores ready. In the mean time, try to get people who will write you really excellent letters of recommendation. This was what I usually advised in my past posts. Letters are extremely important for PhD Do you have research experience and possibly research papers beyond BS/MS projects? |

calculator123: I agree with this, if you have the resources. But it's not just taking sha, these tests have to be blasted, both general and subject. 2 Likes 1 Share |
Education / Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by Admitwithschola: 3:46pm On Sep 02, 2020 |
Herbertstan: All things are necessary in admissions. Nothing is sufficient. That said, many programs require subject test, but there are some that only require general. Perhaps getting a long list of schools split into 'need and not need' subject test could help. In case you also have a sound BS and MS GPA, strong research experience, great letters from your professors and maybe some working papers or publications, you will be at an advantage if your GRE scores turn out well too. |
