Nairaland / General / PDP Leadership Crisis: Ayu Drums Supports For Suswam, Withdraws Appeal In Court by Africascorecard(m): 11:51am On Apr 17, 2024
PDP Leadership Crisis: Compromise NWC Passes Vote of Confidence on Embattled Damagum

Barely 24 hours to the scheduled 98th National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party, the National Working Committee of the party has hurriedly passed a vote of confidence on the embattled acting national chairman of the party, Ambassador Iliya Damagum.

According to reports from the National Headquarters of the party, the pro Governor Wike group, who were rattled by the position of the North Central Leaders of the party hurriedly passed the confidence vote in order to secure the continues stay of Damagum as the acting national chairman.

Recall that, and in line with section 47 of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended) party leaders from the North Central Zone of the party had earlier in the week nominated the former Governor of Benue State, Senator Gabriel Suswam as a replacement for the ousted leader from the same zone, Senator Iyorchia Ayu.

To further strengthen the position of the North Central Zone, it may interest Nigerians, especially members of the PDP to know that, the ousted National Chairman of the Party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, who was pursuing his removal in court has graciously withdrew his appeal, thereby creating a vacancy for the office of National Chairman of the Party.

Unsettled by this decision, the former Governor of Rivers state and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, who is bent on ensuring control of the party, allegedly induced members of the NWC with $30 thousand yesterday in order to carry out the confidence vote ahead of the NEC meeting of the party.

With this current development, the Wike group is battle ready to fight for the soul of the PDP as Nigerians awaits the final outcome of this Armageddon.

Politics / Our Democracy In Danger - APC Members Frown At Suspension Of Ganduje by Africascorecard(m): 7:43pm On Apr 16, 2024
Members of the All Progressives Congress under the umbrella of Concerned APC Members (CAM), have frowned at the porpurted suspension of the national chairman of the party, Abdullahi Ganduje.

Recall that Ganduje was on Tuesday allegedly suspended by APC in his Ward in the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of the state.

The state leadership, however, denied the alleged suspension, describing those behind it as impostors.

Reacting to the development at a press conference on Tuesday in Abuja, CAM, under the leadership of Okpokwu Ogenyi, called for the immediate arrest of those behind the alleged suspension.

Ogenyi said the perpetrators must be brought to book, to serve as a deterrent to others.

He said, "It is with rude shock, we received the news of the suspension of the APC National Chairman of our party, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje by some members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP who disguised as members of our party from his Ward of Kano State.

"The impostors even went far in using the name of our party's legal adviser in Ganduje ward to announce the purported suspension of our National chairman without the prior consent of the said legal adviser even though a legal adviser lack the powers to suspend officers of the party hence such powers is vested on the ward chairman.

"Impersonation is a criminal offence punishable by law. We call on the Inspector General of Police and the Director General of State Security Service to immediately arrest the impostors and prosecute them to serve as deterrent to others willing to orchestrate such devilish act.

"If these impostors are not arrested and prosecuted immediately, in a short while, some members of the PDP or Labour Party may constitute themselves and suspend Mr. President from the APC."

Nairaland / General / Land Dispute: AGF Warned Police IG Against Ignoring Court Judgements by Africascorecard(m): 8:14pm On Apr 01, 2024
The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, has slammed the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for his penchant to disobey valid judgements of the court, warning that such outright disregard for extant Court Orders not only undermines his Office as Chief Law Officer of the Federation under Section 174 of the Constitution but also ridicules the laudable initiatives embarked on by the Nigeria Police to ensure peace, order, and security of the nation.

The warning followed a judgement of both FCT High Court in Suit No. FCT/HC/CV/0924/18 and Appeal Court judgement which ceded the right to own and have access to the immovable property known as Plot 413, Guzape District, Cadastral Zone A09, Abuja to the Corporate Ideals Securities Ltd.

Naija Voice News gathered that the Nigeria Police following a petition by one High Chief Jacko Eloho, the Managing Director of Jackmaq International Company Limited against Senator Ikechukwu Obiora and his company, the Corporate Ideals Securities Ltd alleging forgery of the title documents of Plot 413, Guzape District, Cadastral Zone A09, Abuja, commenced a criminal investigation against them in flagrant disregard to both judgements of the courts.

In a media release, e-signed by High Chief Eloho had claimed that a letter of intent to develop, manage, and operate a designated park site in the Federal Capital Territory was issued in 3rd July 2007 with reference No. AMMA/P&R/S.500, the Abuja Metropolitan Management Agency (Department of Parks and Recreation) issued to Messrs Gozbuks Nig. Limited Park No. 413 A09, Local Park, Guzape District of 0.13452 hectares for the recommended use of Outdoor Events, Recreation, Barbecue, and Snack Spot, and same was allocated under stated terms and conditions, duly signed by TPL Luka Bulus Achi.

"The ownership of Park Plot 413 A09 Guzape District was later transferred to Jacksmaq International Company Limited which has since taken possession of the said property.

"Sometimes in the year 2018, a company by the name Corporate Ideals Securities Ltd owned by Senator Ikechukwu Obiora came up with an allocation letter of offer Grant/Conveyance of approval with reference No. MFCT/LA/MISC.10197 with serial No. 013244 which prompted the Managing Director of Corporate Ideals Securities Limited to attempt to displace our company’s title which attempt was resisted."

Following their resistance, the Corporate Ideals Securities in what they described as "a surreptitious manner" relying on alleged forged title documents and without joining them, "commenced Suit No: FCT/HC/0924/2018 Between Corporate Ideals Securities Ltd VS. HON. Minister Federal Capital Territory & Anor which suit was heard and determined by the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory per Hon. Justice A. A. I Banjoko and the Judgement delivered on 6th February 2019".

It added, "Upon being informed of the Judgement, our Clients by an application to the Court sought and obtained an Order setting aside the judgement delivered by the trial High Court which application was granted by the Ruling of 16th March 2021, which set aside the earlier Judgement.

"The Company, Corporate Ideals Securities Ltd, being aggrieved with the Order setting aside the Judgement, appealed to the Court of Appeal which on 19th September 2022 set aside the latter decision of the trial High Court and directed our Clients if aggrieved proceed to appeal against the Judgement of the trial Court."

He noted that on the advice of the Court of Appeal, they filed two applications at the Court of Appeal against the Judgement of the High Court of the FCT per Hon Justice A.A.I Banjoko:

"The first is the application dated 27th June 2023 seeking the leave of the Court to appeal against the said Judgement. The second is seeking an Order granting a stay of execution of the trial Court’s Judgement. Both applications have since been served on Corporate Ideals Securities Limited."

He, however, stated that the Nigeria Police Force acting on their Petition investigated Senator Obiora’s title documents which he used to obtain the judgement under reference, and concluded that same was forged and recommended that both Senator Obiora and his company be prosecuted for the offences.

But the Attorney General in a letter to the Inspector General of Police, Egbetokun with Ref. No: PEI/CRD/5068/1/109, dated 27th February 2024, slammed the Inspector General of Police for initiating such an investigation, warning the police to desist from abusing court orders, and ensuring that the judgement creditors were restored to the property as the judgement of both courts commanded.

Titled: "RE: Petition Against Malicious Prosecution Of Corporate Ideals Securities Ltd And Its Directors By The Nigerian Police Force. Compliance With Judgment And Orders Of Court," Fagbemi directed that Police and Messrs Jackmaq International Company Ltd and its agents "should immediately vacate the premises in line with the judgment of the Court, to enable the Applicant to take full possession of the property".

He noted that if there are "extenuating facts and circumstances which may warrant a reversal of the judgement of the Court, the Police may wish to initiate a further appeal to the Supreme Court for judgment."

The AG's letter partly read: "The allegations of forgery of title documents against the Applicant (Corporate Ideals Securities Lad), which is currently under investigation by the Police is based on a petition by Jackmaq International Limited. The allegations have already been conclusively dealt with by the High Court of FCT and reaffirmed by the Court of Appeal in favour of Corporate Ideal Securities Ltd. The Courts validated the title of Corporate Ideals Securities Ltd.

By virtue of Section 287 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), all State Authorities, including the Police, are obligated to enforce the decisions and Orders of the Courts, regardless of allegations surrounding the delivery of the said judgement. It is pertinent to note that a judgement (even when unpleasant) remains valid until overturned by a superior court on appeal.

"The decision of the Police to initiate criminal investigation or prosecution concerning the alleged forgery of title documents, despite the High Court and Court of Appeal Judgements that found no evidence of forgery or fraud, not only challenges the judicial powers of the Courts but also contradicts the provisions of Section 287(3) of the Constitution.

"I wish to strongly condemn the failure of the Police officers involved in this case to adhere to my earlier advice to exercise restraint particularly as it affects enforcement of Orders of Courts of competent jurisdiction. Such blazing disregard for Court Orders not only undermines my Office as Chief Law Officer of the Federation under Section 174 of the Constitution but also ridicules the laudable initiatives embarked on by the Nigeria Police to ensure peace, order, and security. It is pertinent that Police officers resist any advances by affected parties to be used to settle scores in violation of extant Court Judgements.

"I therefore strongly advise that any ongoing investigation or prosecution for forgery and other criminal allegations against Corporate Ideal Securities Limited, its director(s), or agents, relating to the disputed property be suspended. The Police and Messrs Jackmaq International Company Ltd and its agents should immediately vacate the premises in line with the judgement of the Court, to enable the Applicant to take full possession of the property.

"Where there are extenuating facts and circumstances which may warrant a reversal of the judgement of the Court, the Police may wish to initiate a further appeal to the Supreme Court for judgement."

Nairaland / General / IWD: Ngos Empower Women In Abuja To Enhance Their Businesses by Africascorecard(m): 4:40pm On Mar 09, 2024
By Oriri Peter

In celebration of International Women’s Day 2024, the Olean Care Aid Foundation (OCAF) supplied women with tools and cash to support and expand their small businesses.

OCAF, in collaboration with the Assured Charity International Organization (ACIO) and Isioma Akamagwuna Foundation (IAF), organized the event to ensure a better life for the women.

Our correspondent reported that the event, held at the Garki Police Barracks, gathered over 300 women from Garki Village, Airport Road, and Mararaba to enable organized distribution of tools to diligent women genuinely in need of support.

Mrs. Oge Ezenyimulu-Nwagu, Founder and CEO of OCAF, expressed her gratitude for meeting the needs of women and how it inspired her to start her NGO and seek collaborations to expand their reach.

“This is something I've personally been doing for a long time from the profits of our business. Unfortunately, it's never enough.

“So we decided to open an NGO to get more people to support and reach out to as many people as possible,” she said.
Nwagu added that investing in women was a sure way to promote economic growth.

“It gives me joy to see people smile and see that they have something to do, especially women.
“Because I've always believed that when you empower one woman, you have empowered the household and the nation at large,” she said.
The philanthropist added that their donation targeted the needs of women engaged in either business or providing services in exchange for money.

“We went out of our way to understand what some of these people do, and then we bought some of those equipment for them.
“So if you are in the Akara business, and you have told us how long you've been in that Akara business, we expect that we want you to expand.

“In trying to make you expand, we give you an extra Akara pan, the long spoon, guinea corn, and other things you need to expand your business.

“We saw that we chose to give some tools for their businesses and some cash to augment whatever they have in terms of their capital base and food stock,” she said.
She advised others to support more women in establishing their businesses.

“My expectation is, I would like so many other people to come out to start encouraging women to help them establish their business,” she said.
Mrs. Isioma Akamagwuna, Founder/CEO of Isioma Akamagwuna Foundation (IAF), highlighted how women would benefit from the various tools and equipment provided for their businesses.

“Putting these resources together will empower some of them in the little ways we can.
“Those starting a petty business can receive the grinding machine. There’s also foodstuff to reduce hunger due to economic hardship,” she said.

She expressed concern about the poor welfare of women and encouraged others to help women with whatever they can.
“Women are not catered for as they should. It is a worrisome situation.

“It is not that the money or the fund is there, but just something we put together as friends and family.

“And we thought it wise to assist them because when you empower a woman, you empower the family,” she said.

She urged the government to include more women in society as their impact is invaluable.
“I ask that the government carry us along in whatever they are doing in society because a woman can carry responsibilities and bring solutions.

Mrs. Uche Onwagbufor, Anchor, Culture, and Creative Arts, FCT UBEB, advised the FG to invest more and include more women in the country's affairs.

“Government should involve more women in most of the affairs they're doing, not only men. Remember, this world is not only for men; it is combined, and at times, we women have the patience to undergo some pressure than men.

“God gave us the special endowment to prevail against men. Maintaining a healthy family is not easy; the woman is always there to take care of the children and handle even bigger tasks.

Hon. Anjor Obande, Special Guest/National Programme Manager, National Social Investment Programme Agency (N-SIPA), encouraged women to apply diligence to their work as it is always rewarded.

“My women, whatever you find to do with your hand, do it with pride. Anything you do, God will multiply it.

She shared a story of becoming a breadwinner in her family after her husband lost his job. She switched from mechanical engineering to fashion design and became an international brand.

“God created us to bless the work of our hands. So stay diligent in what you do,” she said.
She promised to support the women in any way she can.

“I'm going to do my best to see how I can support you. I thank God for this opportunity. Please, let's be grateful for what we have now, and more will come by the grace of God,” she said.

Nairaland / General / Benue NASS Caucus Refutes Governor Alia’s Blame Game Amidst Security Concerns by Africascorecard(m): 9:10pm On Feb 29, 2024
By Oriri Peter

The Benue State National Assembly Caucus has strongly criticized Fr. Hyacinth Alia, the Executive Governor of Benue State, accusing him of prioritizing blame-shifting over addressing the pressing security challenges facing Benue residents.

The caucus condemned the ridiculous activity of the Governor, who spoke in vernacular that "It has been discovered that some members of the National Assembly wrote a letter in the name of the State Government and took the letter to the border between Nigeria and Niger and invited Fulanis to come to Benue State as there is no longer any problem.

These are the bucket people (empty, hollow people) that we are dealing with. This is why you have seen the influx of herdsmen with cattle into the state everywhere now. The people who have done these are indigenes of this state. You wonder what they are even thinking. Their target is to discredit my administration. But no one can discredit my government."

The caucus, led by the Minority leader of the Senate, Comrade Patrick Abba Moro, vehemently refuted these allegations, labeling them as baseless, malicious, wicked and a deliberate attempt by the governor to evade his constitutional responsibilities, divert attention from the governor's ineptitude and incite the good and suffering people of Benue State against their lawmakers who are only speaking on their behalf as their representatives.

The caucus further states unequivocally that they are NOT authors of any such letters) let alone take same to borders between Nigeria and Niger to invite Fulanis to come to invade their beloved State.

The caucus notes with dismay that the outing of the governor in the said video show that he has completely run out of ideas on what to do to secure the state.

Addressing journalists after a caucus meeting, Senator Moro emphasized that the accusations were not only malicious but also aimed at diverting attention from the governor's lack of effective governance.

Furthermore, the caucus expressed disappointment in Governor Alia's use of derogatory language towards members of the National Assembly, highlighting their educational qualifications and commitment to serving the people of Benue.

The caucus asserted that their advocacy for improved security measures in the state is devoid of political motives and solely driven by the desire to protect the lives and property of Benue residents.

They called upon the relevant security agencies to investigate the governor's allegations thoroughly, dismissing them as unfounded and ludicrous.

Reacting further, the caucus urged Benue residents to disregard the governor's attempts to shift blame and emphasized the importance of prioritizing security and governance over political gamesmanship.

Nairaland / General / Insure Our Future And Not Fossil Fuels by Africascorecard(m): 4:37pm On Feb 25, 2024
Sunday 25 February 2024

Fridays For Future Nigeria (FFFN) a climate activists NGO join global fight demanding Insurance Companies around the world and in Nigeria insuring Fossil Fuel projects such as [The AIG,Tokio Marine, Zurich Insurance,The Linkage Assurance Plc, AIICO Insurance Plc and others] to stop immediately and start taking actions on climate.

According to statement signed by
Kingsley Odogwu, National Coordinator and Country Representative, Fridays For Futurer Nigeria (FFFN) he noted that the actions will hold in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Delta State from this 26th February – 3rd March,2024.

All FFF NIGERIA local Activists and community members as well as University Students are protesting around the major Cities in Nigeria today, demanding that these Insurance Companies take immediate actions to slow the climate crisis and support the urgent transition from dangerous fossil fuels to clean energy.

This FFF NIGERIA IOF Climate protest is part of a global week of actions organised by the Insure Our Future network, running from 26th Feb – 33rd March. Grassroot groups and activists from across the world are coming together to demand action, with events taking place in the UK, USA, Japan, South Korea, Uganda, DRC, Nigeria, Switzerland, France, Peru, Colombia, Germany, and Czech. Demands to the industry include immediately stopping insuring new fossil fuel projects, phasing out support for existing coal, oil and gas projects, respecting human rights and supporting a just transition.
2023 was the hottest year since records began, and extreme and violent weather events are increasing across every continent. Burning fossil fuels is the number one cause of the climate crisis, and fossil fuel projects – coal, gas and oil – cannot operate without insurance. This puts the insurance industry in a uniquely powerful position to have an impact on the future of our world.

The Environmental devastations caused by these Fossil Fuel Industries at the Niger Delta region of Nigeria where the Indigenous people can no longer farm on their farmlands are enough reasons for these Insurance Companies in Nigeria to stop insuring new Fossil Fuel projects in the Country and support a just transition to Renewable energy.

As we continue our ongoing Fossil Free Campaigns across the Country, the Nigerian Government is hereby advised to keep all its promises on the global Climate Justice struggles before the International Community and also create a conducive Atmosphere for Climate Justice Activists across Nigeria to peacefully continue their Climate advocacy Campaigns without any form of intimidations and harassments from the law enforcement agencies.

said: “The insurance industry is meant to protect communities but instead it is deepening the crisis we face. These Insurance Companies will be guaranteeing a future with more wildfires, floods, droughts and storms if they continue to insure fossil fuels. Insurers have a choice – they can stop insuring dirty, planet-wrecking oil, gas and coal. We ask them to take action now to protect our children’s future, because later is too late.”

Nairaland / General / NGO Unveils Digital App To Track Implementation Of Campaign Promises by Africascorecard(m): 9:30am On Feb 25, 2024
Ready To Lead Africa (RTLA), a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) has unveiled the ‘FollowThePromises’ web and mobile app aimed at tracking the implementation of campaign promises of elected officials, especially governors.

Speaking at the unveiling event on Friday in Abuja, the Global President, RTLA, Mr Godbless Otubure, said that the board of RTLA had begun a revolution by creating a form of e-governance and e-democracy in Nigeria.

According to him, the app is aimed at promoting transparency, accountability and citizenship participation in the socio-economic development in six states of the six geo-political zones in Nigeria.

He listed the pilot states as Sokoto, Akwa Ibom, Plateau, Ekiti, Gombe and Ebonyi.

He said the event was to enlighten the public on the functionality of the app; revealing how government officials could be monitored to fulfill the promises made to their citizens upon election.

“Today, what we are doing here is the unveiling of the followthepromises mobile and web application.

“The goal is to track the promises made by governorship candidates during their last elections and for the last couple of months that they have been sworn in, we are following the promises that they made, vis a vis , their manifestos.’’

Otubure added that his team was working with people who lived in every local community of the six states to get factual data on the happenings in their local communities.

“We are working with people who live in every local government of these states.

“Gone are the days when governors finish their tenure and then come up with a document of what they have done.

“This time, every day, the people who live in these communities are constantly updating us through our mobile apps; tracking everything that these governors are doing in the states.’’

He said the data would be provided by people living in different communities in the local government areas.

“The data is not provided by the government but by people in the community who are everyday users.

“For example there is a particular community that has not seen power for 28 years in the South-South, an oil rich state; there is a particular local government in the southwest, they have not seen power for eight years.

“The government does not give us this information; the people did.

“The app is very user friendly; so, the trust is there; we did not just wake up to build an app; we travelled to those communities by road, air; we ate and slept with the people in those communities.

“People traveled from every local government area to come and meet us in the capitals so the people that we are working with are not people that were just randomly selected.

“There are people from every local government; that is why our data is not coming from only one local government but all local government areas in the six states–119 people trained so far.’’

He said that the beneficiaries had gone back to train more people who would help to increase the numbers.

Otubure said that importance of a technology in enabling accountable governance could not be overemphasised

“For us, it is important to be able to have this level of technology be used to sustain democracy and improve citizens engagement and participation in governance,’’ he said

According to him, the innovation has come to improve the existing version of democracy in Nigeria by bridging the gap and placing emphasis on accountability in governance.

On his part, Peter Burba, the Chief Launcher/ First Secretary, Embassy of the U.S., said that the initiative was a good one and expanding it to other states would go a long way to increasing transparency across all states of the nation.

“I think it is definitely a very intriguing idea; work in practice is something monitoring and evaluation is required; the idea is intrinsically very interesting and hopefully it will increase scrutiny and transparency.

“I think if officials present realistic budgets and make realistic statements, people will have an understanding of how institutions function and I think that will definitely promote more feat in democratic institutions,’’ he said.

Nairaland / General / Analyst Urge Benue Stakeholders, State Actors To Support Governor Alia's Adminis by Africascorecard(m): 3:30pm On Feb 16, 2024
A public affairs analyst and commentator comrade Michael Isaac Onuh is calling and urging stakeholders and state actors to support the administration of Benue State governor Rev. Fr Alia's administration.

While addressing pressmen, Michael appealed and urged major stakeholders to sheath their sword and support the administration of the governor for the betterment and advancement of the state.

"No state can develop or make any meaningful progress when the major stakekholders and state actors are at loggerheads with accusations, allegations and counter accusations, allegations always".

"I am appealing and pleading with all our leaders in various capacities and levels to sheath their sword and give peace a second chance for the sake of posterity and also, the governor Alia's administration should be open to accept constructive criticism".

Michael called on the state governor Fr. Allia to continue with the people's friendly reforms and policy he has started because with the facts available at our disposal at the moment, the governor is currently meeting the yearnings of the people to a large extent and is also carrying out it's campaign promises at the moment.

"He's paying salaries, pensions regularly and carrying out major construction of several roads and overheads bridges like the high-level flyover currently now and he's also developing critical infrastructure in the state, major reforms in the health sector with the appointment of Dr Hwande as CMD of Benue State University is the right choice and decision as the hospital is currently being transformed to a world class hospital right now.

Hence, the need for all major stakeholders and state actors to join hands and support the administration irrespective of the political divide and differences.

Michael is also appealing and calling on the governor to extend the developmental strides recorded in the state to all zones particularly to zone C.

Michael stressed further, as a matter of urgency the state government must ensure the state is well secured by providing security for the people particularly the areas like Agatu, Logo areas etc that are being attacked constantly by marauding herdsmen as providing adequate security will attract more investment to the state and the governor should encourage production and consumption of locally made goods and services as Benue State is the food basket of nation, if this is done, the state will move forward rapidly and experience more growth.

On tackling the issue of insecurity, Michael called on the government to address the issues urgently and in achieving it, other major stakeholders and state actors like the traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society etc should be involved and the locals should be encouragement to volunteer or give local information to the security agencies and also if it will be possible, the renumeration of all armed forces posted in to the state should be reviewed upward as nothing meaningful can be achieved without security in place.

As we can see now, "Benue State is currently well recognized at the federal level with the appointment of Senator George Akume as the SGF and the state must leverage on such privilege and opportunity to attract more development and rapid growth".

The peace and stability of the state should not be traded for anything irrespective of the differences and grievances, Michael stressed.

Nairaland / General / Alia Moves To Impeach Dajoh As Speaker - Source by Africascorecard(m): 5:56pm On Feb 06, 2024
.... Berger Alfred tipped as next speaker

By Terrence Kuanum
APC Stalwart

Facts have emerged on the plot by Governor Hyacinth Alia to impeach the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hon. Aondona Hyacinth Dajoh.

According to a source in Government House, Governor Alia fell out with Dajoh after he(Dajoh) rejected the kangaroo plot to suspend the state Chairman of the APC Comrade Austin Agada and subsequently suspend the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, from the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Other offences of Dajoh include the Speaker's refusal to indulge in anti-party activities with the governor, refusal to suspend members of the Benue State House of Assembly who insist on due process and often challenge Alia's notorious character of embarking on projects or spending without budgetary allocation and approval.

Governor Alia also expected Speaker Aondona Dajoh to suspend some members of the Benue State House of Assembly who insist that he(Alia) must be transparent by making public the internally generated revenue(IGR) of the state and huge federal allocation from the federal government and the state wage bill.

The refusal of Dajoh to fulfil Governor Alia's dictatorial and tyranic demands have made the governor to see him as a threat, resulting to the governor commissioning the impeachment of Dajoh, to replace him with the member representing Makurdi North State Constituency, Hon. Berger Alfred, who actively participated in Governor Alia's anti-party activities in last Saturday's Guma 1 State Constituency bye-election by supporting the candidate of the Labour Party publicly. Berger after collecting money to travel with other members of the Assembly to Turkey for study tour stayed behind to execute the Anti- party campaign against the APC but lost woefully.

A credible source also disclosed that Governor Alia is aware that he doesn't have the number to impeach the speaker.

He has therefore commisoned some of his stooges in the Assembly to win some members of the main opposition party in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to support the governor's move and in a bid they fail, they should disrupt the sitting and citing security, they will hold a press conference in Government house and announce a new speaker.

However, some members of the State Assembly who have refused to support Governor Alia's plot to remove the speaker see him as one who is into 'use and dump' and politics of betrayal.

Our credible source from the State Assembly who is against the plot to remove Dajoh disclosed that, the governor abandoning the renovation of the Assembly Complex which has seen the contractor pack out of the premises is a plot by Governor Alia to keep the assembly to continue sitting at government house in order to keep the Assembly in check.

According to him, this is also a point of disagreement between Governor Alia and the speaker who wants an independent assembly after the governor has failed in all his promises to the assembly.

The source reveled that after so many attempts to see the governor, the speaker recently wrote on his Facebook page that he is tire. This public statement is said to have provoke the governor and his inner team.

The question on our lips now is, "what manner of man of God is that?"

Nairaland / General / JED Enhances Productivity And Efficiency, Creates Regions, Promotes 1600 Staff by Africascorecard(m): 11:09pm On Feb 02, 2024
By Oriri Peter

To reposition the company for productive and efficient services, the Management of Jos Electricity Distribution Plc has embarked on a massive promotion of staff just as it has created an additional four regions.

The Head, Corporate Communications, of the Company Dr Friday Adakole Elijah in a press statement noted that while making the disclosure last Thursday at the company’s Board room, the Managing Director, Engr Abdu Bello Mohammed also said that more staff have been recruited to beef up the existing gap stressing that the Management was doing all within its wisdom to boost the economic fortune of the company.

He explained that the management decided to promote or advance virtually all the staff that had stagnated since the inception of the company in 2013.

According to the Managing Director, ” We realized after painstaking research that a lot of staffers were demotivated due to lack of promotion or advancement”.
He explained further that, so many staff were denied promotion for upward of eight years stressing that the situation had contributed negatively to the performance of the company.

“It was obvious that staff were disenchanted with the situation and therefore exhibited a high premium of lackadaisical attitude to the revenue collection of the company by refunding to take ownership of their job roles”, he said.

Engr Mohammed was optimistic that with the elevation, the company’s fortune would improve tremendously.
He said that when things began to improve, all the critical stakeholders including the staff would have reasons to smile and be proud of working with the Jos Electricity Distribution Plc.

The Managing Director also disclosed that four new regions have been created to bring the services of the company nearer to the customers. This brings to the fore a total of 12 regions.

The newly created regions are Yelwa from Bauchi, Tudun Wada from Bukuru, Doma from Gombe and West of Mines from Jos Metro.

Benue Elders Writes Open Letter To President Tinubu Over Impending Breakdown of Law in Guma LGA Bye-Election

The Concerned Elders in Guma Local Government Area, Benue State, have penned an open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging his intervention in the forthcoming Guma 1 State Constituency Bye Election scheduled for February 3rd, 2024.

The letter was Signed by 12 local elders and copied to key officials including the National Chairman of APC, DSS, and Benue APC State Chairman, the letter highlights the importance of Mr. President's leadership in ensuring the integrity of Nigeria's democracy and the need for free, fair, and transparent bye-elections in Guma.

READ THE FULL LETTER BELOW

His Excellency,
The President,
Federal Republic of Nigeria,
Presidential Villa, Abuja,
Nigeria.
2nd February 2024

Dear Sir,

IMPENDING BREAK DOWN OF LAW IN GUMA LOCAL GOVERNMENT BYE-ELECTION

We the concerned elders in Guma Local Government Area, Benue State wishes to write and draw the attention of the President and Commander-in-Chief of Armed Forces Federal Republic of Nigeria to the alarming situation surrounding the upcoming Guma 1 State Constituency Bye Election scheduled to hold February 3rd 2024 in Benue State.

It is with great concern that we have come together from our various council wards of Mbawa, Mbabai, Uvir, Nyiev, Mbayer/Yandev, and Mbadwen to express our worries about the destructive activities attributed to the Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Dr. Hyacinth Iormen Alia.

We have unraveled reports of actions that jeopardize the integrity and fairness of the electoral process in Guma, this actions constitute a threat to our security which is a matter of national importance, we urge your office to thoroughly investigate the activities of the Governor and take necessary actions to ensure a transparent , credible , free and fair elections in Guma 1 State Constituency.

We received credible report that early hours of yesterday Governor Hyacinth Iormen Alia had in an arrangement with Senator Gabriel Suswam and concluded plans to support the candidate of the PDP, Hon Jimin Geoffrey, ordinarily we wouldn't be bothered because the Governor has right to support whoever he wants since he has declared war on the party that brought him to power and has refused to support her candidate, but our concern is the Governor's approval of 100 million making it a sum of 120 million he has given to PDP for the elections, initially the Governor was supporting the candidate of labour party until early hours of yesterday, he settled for PDP due to the plea of his friend Senator Suswam.

The Governor in furtherance issued a directive to all his Commissioners and other appointees to go to Guma and do everything humanly possible to win for PDP, Your Excellency sir, we consider this as a direct attack on our lives, the Governor is not from here neither is any of his forest of appointees already carrying out the directive.

We have gathered that thugs have already been mobilized from Makurdi, Vandeikya, Kwande and other surrounding areas to unleash terror on us, and further desecrate our land, in fear for our lives and self defense we have asked our children male or female to put up strict resistance by carrying local arms and making sure whoever attempts to spill blood in our community will have his own blood spilled to the ground too, we are a little community already destroyed by herders/invaders we won't survive another crisis and it's why we are ready to fight for our lives, blood for blood.

While we would wish to remain committed to the principles of peace and justice, we must express the deep concern and frustration among the people in Guma, in the absence of swift and decisive action, there is a growing sentiment that compels us to state that we have advised our children to defend their rights with unwavering resolve, even if it means doing so with their last blood.

It is our sincere hope that your intervention will promote democracy, safeguard the rights of the citizens, and uphold the principles that our great nation stands for, we believe in the strength of our democratic institutions, and your leadership is crucial in preserving the sanctity of the electoral process.

We implore you, Mr. President, to intervene and take necessary steps to address the concerns raised by the citizens of Guma, your leadership is paramount in ensuring that our democracy continues to thrive and that the upcoming elections are conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner.

Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter, i trust in your commitment to the welfare of our nation and its citizens.

Nairaland / General / Agada's Alleged Suspension: Raises Concerns Over Governor Alia's Leadership by Africascorecard(m): 9:33am On Feb 01, 2024
By Terrence Kuanum,
APC Stalwart

We read in the media of the purported suspension of the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Benue State, Comrade Austin Agada, by his Ehaje ward Executive Committee of Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State.

It is crystal clear to every sane person that, that suspension is illegal, null and void as the person who signed as APC Chairman for Ehaje Ward of Ogbadibo Local Government Area, Godwin O. Abah, is not the ward chairman of the party, but the current Supervisory Councilor of Works, Ogbadibo Local Government Area, who was appointed by the governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia.

The current APC ward chairman of Ehaje ward is Hon. Peter Onoja, who became chairman at a mini Congress in December 2023.

It is also necessary to state that, the current ward Chairman of Ehaje in Ogbadibo Local Government Area, Hon. Peter Onoja, has since communicated the Local Government Party Secretariat to disclaim the purported suspension carried out by desperados without recourse to constitutional provisions of the party and by people who lack the constitutional powers to do so.

This fact has been collaborated by Hon.Andrew Edache, the APC Chairman for Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State, in his press release shortly after the news of the purported suspension of Agada hit the social media.

Furthermore, the petition relied upon to issue the purported suspension did not emanate from the polling unit.

So, even if Hon. Abah was still the ward chairman of Ehaje Ward, the Ward Executive Committee of the party lacks the powers to adjucate over a petition that did not emanate from the polling unit as clearly stated under Article 21 of the APC Constitution.

We are not ignorant of the fact that a mercenary who has been hired to destroy himself, Daniel Onjeh, backed by Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State are behind the plot to remove Austin Agada from office.

Recall that, few days ago, Onjeh claimed his electoral woes in the February 25th, 2023, Benue South Senatorial election were caused by the capacity chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Benue State, Comrade Austin Agada.

The campaign to remove Agada has been on since Agada and the hardworking State Working Committee refused to compromise the principles of the party and the local government chairmen of the APC in Benue State as well as the State Vice-Chairmen passed a vote of no confidence on the Executive Governor of Benue State, Hycinth Alia.
The plot thickened after the governor failed to force his aide, Maurice Orwough, as the Party's candidate for the February 3rd, 2024, Guma 1 State Constituency bye-election.

As you already know, Governor Alia has been under pressure to restore democratic rule at the local government level as he had suspended the elected local government officials that he met in office and replaced them with a caretaker committee that is unknown to the Nigerian Constitution.

The governor's camp know that with Agada as chairman, they will not be able to force their choiced aspirants on the party as candidates in the event the governor wants to conduct local government elections in the state as they know Agada will insist on transparent process.

They have referenced what happened in the Guma 1 State Constituency bye-election that has made them to endorse the Labour Party for the February 3rd, 2024 Guma 1 State Constituency bye-election and have resolved to use all available means, including unconstitutional means to get Agada out of office.

As you already know, they sponsored hoodlums yesterday to stage an anti-Agada protest at the state Secretariat of the APC in Makurdi, popularly known as Tinubu House, located at No.73 J.S Tarka Way, Makurdi.

What happened yesterday is just one of the schemes they have marshalled out in their 'Agada must go' plot.

I however use this opportunity to call on those after Agada to desist from their already failed mission, especially as the National Secretariat of the party yesterday came out and declared Agada as the bonafide State Chairman of the APC in Benue state.

They should rather use their energy in bringing dividends of democracy to Benue people and also support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, to fulfil the renewed hope agenda of the Tinubu administration.

Agada's tenure as State Chairman has produced a governor,2 Senators,10 House of Representatives members and 21 State Asssmbly members, a feat that is unprecedented in the history of Benue APC.

Comrade Agada has done extremely well and his track records are resonating with the people who are patiently waiting to reward him soon with a higher assignment or consolidate him.
