Yeske!:The point is that he has singled out the black race to be a list of horrible things. He would have said this about Asians and it would be as bad. That he said negro or black people is just so close to home otherwise I would not even post it here on NL |
zetdee: Who's the "THEY" he's refering to?"They" the protesting crowd who he refers to as looters, hooligans and jobless folk. These are engineers, doctors...people from all works of life. |
In his narrow mind, by "we" he's referring to all Turks but the millions of protesters would say he's talking to just his followers gbanikiti: So who's the "WE " he's referring to? |
Here's a video and a clearer translation. People are trying to interpret his statement in other ways bt I don't see how the meaning can be missed. He said:"...They think we don't understand politics, they think we don't understand art, cinema, theater, poetry. They think we don't understand esthetics and architecture. They think we are illiterate, ignorant, low class, people who should be content with what's given to them, in short, we are a black (negro) crowd." https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=kh93h0Sp-ok Who utters such words? |
I missed that part, here's a segment of what he said, the part you see on the screen. "They think we don't understand/know anything about art and music. They think we're Negroes" |
Among many verbal assaults the Turkish PM has recently been dishing out, this one has hit very close to home and made me wonder if being here is worth it at all. My purpose of sharing this here is just to get the word out as far as possible, let the world know what kind of a man this is. Turks are generally nice people but this man is drunk with power and is hurting the majority. Nuzo please leave the thread, you make my eyes hurt. Things I would say to you would be insulting on your person. Deal directly with Emu and leave this thread alone please. Wip ignore the guy abeg, when he truly needs help he will learn what humility is. He sounds like someone who thinks he's the smartest... Kudos to you for helping people! |
I want to make something very clear here. EMU is the best university in North Cyprus!! That is a 100% correct statement. Everything that the school claims to be is true, all the affiliations with other schools (UK, US, etc) are real! Two simple examples: 1. While I was doing my MSc in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, just before the Warwick partnership started, a representative from Warwick came to give a talk about ongoing research in their university and he explicitly announced to us that they will soon have a "campus" in EMU. 2. Post graduate students who take a course from project management have the chance to go to Canada for a workshop, this is part of the coursework, MSc students in Architecture go to Istanbul as part of their coursework as well. There are bad people everywhere so saying that EMU has bad eggs is not enough reason for it to be a bad school. Yes EMU is not Havard, Yale, Oxford or MIT but it is not Near East University (NEU) and certainly not Cyprus International University (CIU); you can't even compare the schools. EMU is a world apart from all the other schools in North Cyprus and that includes METU in Güzelyurt. For your information crossing to the south of Cyprus is not easy especially when you have been in the north as a Nigerian (with KKTC residency stamped on your passport) so if I were you, i will not even have that in mind. So what if NEU is owned by a billionaire? He has a huge campus, but he has also employed academic staff that have no motivation or passion. EMU on the other hand has an equally big and extremely (yes I said extremely) beautiful campus. Given that North Cyprus is only recognized by Turkey as a country, some schools abroad might be skeptical when it comes to transfers but NO EMU student has had problems with moving to other countries. I have friends who have moved to the US, UK, Canada and Australia among others. I can go on and on but the LCM of the issue is that EMU way ahead of all other schools on the Island (including the south) but it is your choice, wip7 has not forced anyone to go to EMU and even if he is making a percentage why should it bother you? As long as you get what you want which is admission why the hate? DO NOT GO TO CYPRUS IF NOT FOR STUDY Good luck! |

Veneka: Thanks a lot for the tips. Very helpful. The problem is that I can't find lots of information on the school websites about the faculty members; their projects, areas of expertise etc, or maybe I am looking the wrong way. I am interested in the following schools:As per the schools that have online applications, just go ahead and apply. Here are links to the list of academic staff of the universities and the faculty in question: 1. Istanbul Aydın University: http://www.ebs.aydin.edu.tr/index.iau?Page=BolumGenelBilgiler&BK=163 2. Bahcesehir University: http://bahcesehir.edu.tr/kadro/social_sciences/academic_staff (Prof. Ekrem TATOĞLU might be a good target, his CV: http://content.bahcesehir.edu.tr/personel/361_en.zip) Admissions are open twice a year, in Spring and Fall. I will provide more info later, sorry for the half response. |
Veneka: Hey Ahamdiheme,Hi Veneka, I'm doing well. Quick question, are you checking out the faculty members' web pages/ sending them emails to find out if they have any funded research projects? If you are not, I strongly recommend that you do that (a lot of work I know). I would say just go ahead and apply even if they ask for GRE/GMAT, like I said earlier if it isn't one of the top schools (METU, Boğaziçi, Bilkent and the likes), they will at least take a look at your documents. Some schools wave GRE but for some reason do not state it. You can find out by calling or I can help you find out if you tell me what school you are applying to. Please send emails to some of the professors and try to convince them that you are good and you will be useful to them, almost like a job application. State that you are keen on research and highly interested in their line of research (you know this from their published work). The truth is if that professor wants you, your admission to the Uni will just be a matter of paper work. Good luck ![]() |
Veneka: Thanks a lot. And lol @ long sermon; it really helped, didn't mind it at all. So basically, the TUBITK covers the upkeep, while one can try to get tuition waivers via research assistant positions and the like?Exactly, I think TUBITAK pays 1800 TL at the moment and it is for a maximum period of five years. Most professors will want to match that amount anyway...Pursuing both will not hurt |
Veneka: Oh really? I was of the impression that one had to have the GRE/GMAT to get into the postgraduate programs. Please how would I go about applying without the GRE/GMAT? Would it be better to visit the schools in person? Also how do I go about applying for the funded programs. Based on the website link you posted, they open up applications about twice a year; one in february precisely. Do you think they would open it up next year again? Also would you happen to know if they have two intakes a year or just one in September for the PhD progam? No. For schools like METU, Bogazici and Bilkent, they strictly require those exams but for most of the younger private universities, you do not need any of the exams to get accepted, some might even have their own test for English so no need for the IELTS or TOEFL either. It is always better to visit in person if you can but before you do so try to check the department website to know which faculty member(s) you will be visiting. Some of the professors actually advertise open positions on their websites so that would be a cue for you to probably align yourself to his/her research interest if it chimes your fancy. You are right the TUBITK PhD fellowship opens up twice every year and is only for newly accepted candidates or those in their first year. If nothing changes, it will surely open up next year. Most, if not all the schools have two intakes, one for the spring semester (February) and the other in fall (September). You just need to keep your eyes open for the application deadlines. I hope the long sermon helps ![]() |
Veneka: Hello,No I did not, my results (transcripts) were sufficient. |
Post Graduate Candidates (MsC, PhD and Post Doc) Hello everyone, I just stumbled on this thread and I am glad that I did. I'm a PhD candidate in one of the private Universities in Istanbul studying Electrical Electronics Engineering and I am on a fully funded TUBITAK project scholarship. I carry out my research and work for the department as a research assistant thus, I get a full tuition waiver. I will advice those in the engineering and sciences to visit the web pages of the private universities, the faculty members usually have research projects and if you prove to them that you are capable they can accept you and pay you monthly. I have also just applied for further funding from TUBITAK: http://www.tubitak.gov.tr/tubitak_content_files/BIDEB/detailed_information/DI_2215_foreigner_PhD.doc All newly accepted or PhD students in their first year are welcome to apply. I can give tips on how to secure a place in a funded research project but I really do not know anything about the government scholarship scheme. YOU DO NOT NEED TO LEARN TURKISH IF YOU ARE FUNDED BY A RESEARCH PROJECT ![]() I wish everyone good luck. |
