Business / Crisis Hits Akinola George Taylor Led Heritage Bank As Head Of IT Diverts N49bn, by aljazirahnews: 1:25pm On Jun 19, 2023
Heritage Bank led by Akinola George-Taylor, one of Nigeria’s lending establishments is once more engulfed in the web of severe crisis shaking it to its very roots, Globaltimesng understands.

Fresh information from informed sources at the bank indicates that Heritage Bank appears to have seen better days as this is as ENigeria Newspaper reports that among the catalogue of issues currently hanging around the lender’s neck as the proverbial hangman’s noose includes, a serious boardroom crisis which has seen the edging out of allies of its former Managing Director and Chief Executive, Ifie Sekibo from the board of the moribund bank.

Further investigations by this newspaper revealed that apart from the issues of “Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) and the Liquidity Ratio (LR), the commercial bank is also grappling with many other crises that tend to threaten its survival. One of them is its poor services which are staring its customers in the face. Already, most of the bank’s branches are awash with complaints of unsatisfied customers whose singsong is their plans to close their accounts due to the long hours they experience to get services from Heritage Bank staff.

There are also strong indications that the lender which is currently on life support is only an inch away from the harmer of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Heritage Bank’s Boardroom crisis worsens, Ifie Sekibo’s loyalists edged out

You would recall that, months ago, ENigeria Newspaper reported that Ifie Sekibo, a banking legend and boardroom guru who was the founder of the bank bowed out upon the expiration of his tenure in line with the directive outlined by the apex bank.

This Newspaper exclusively reports that since his exit, things have reportedly further degenerated on the watch of the new helmsman, Akinola George-Taylor who is said to have allegedly connived with other members of the board to frustrate loyalists of his predecessor.

Even though George Taylor is faced with the huge challenge of reviving the fortunes of the ailing bank and drive growth, sources say he has instead, allegedly, instigated multiple internal crisis, in an attempt to rid the bank of those suspected to be loyalists of some board members, and employ his own people. This is according to an account by a reliable source in the bank.

“Some key members of the board, connived with the MD (George-Taylor) to sideline others who are considered to be loyal to Ifie and as for other members of staff who are in the same category, they have been sacked with immediate effect and that includes, Rilwan Dabiri, head of IT department in the bank and over 70 others”, the source concluded.

On the other hand, another source who spoke to us on the condition of anonymity said, “Although many have been sacked from the Bank, most of them have been indicted in one fraud or the other, thus their sacking by the new management is justified”. The source further stated that only a few who were hit by the mass sacking are victims of circumstance.

Under Akinola George Taylor, Heritage Bank’s Head of IT Diverts N49 Billion into Separate Accounts, Disappears

Meanwhile, ENigeria Newspaper also learned that Rilwan Dabiri upon exit handed over the IT department to his successor who is simply identified as Akin. Since resuming his new position as head of IT, Akin had allegedly been engaging in serious insider fraud which includes unauthorized transfer of funds from the bank’s coffers into private bank accounts which he secretly operates without the knowledge of his employers.

According to the bank’s structure, only the head of IT has sole access and operates the Finaco platform which is solely used for online transfer of funds in the financial sector. For this reason, Akin who has unfettered access to the platform seized the opportunity to initiate multiple transfers of about N49 billion into six accounts domiciled in six commercial banks in Nigeria.

His escapades were soon exposed following an internal audit per the instruction of the bank’s MD, George Taylor which reportedly exposed the mega fraud. Upon further interrogation, he was only able to drop one of the six accounts before disappearing and switching off his phones.

The management of the bank is afraid of inviting the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to open an investigation for fear of stirring up the hornet nest.

It remains to be seen how the new leadership of Heritage Bank Plc under the watch of Akinola George-Taylor intends to steer the lender off troubled waters, but key indicators suggest that things are not good.

Meanwhile when we contacted Ozenna Utulu, head of Corporate Communications of Heritage Bank on Wednesday morning for official reaction via SMS, she neither acknowledged receipt, nor responded to our message sent to her MTN line.

Education / Nigerian Students In UK, Others Risk Deportation by aljazirahnews: 8:58pm On Jan 25, 2023
Nigerians and other immigrant students in the United Kingdom currently face a high-risk of deportation after completion of their studies following a row between UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman and the Department of Education.

According to The Daily Mail, Braverman is currently seeking to cut down the amount of time foreign students can stay in the UK after graduation.

Legitnaija reports that currently, immigrants who travel to Britain to study can stay behind two years after graduation.
But the Department for Education is said to be resisting Braverman’s plan to cut that to just six months, after which they have to have a skilled job that makes them eligible for a work visa or leave the UK.
The Daily Mail further stated that the development is the latest twist in a long-running row over foreign student numbers.

“Braverman has committed to cut immigration and ‘substantially reduce’ the number of unskilled foreign workers coming to Britain, from 239,000 to the ‘tens of thousands’.

“As part of that, she wants to reduce the number of international students who can apply for a graduate post-study work visa, which allows any student who has passed their degree to remain and work in the UK for at least two years.

“But education officials fear this will make the UK less attractive to foreign students, who pay far more than UK students for their courses and are a major source of income for universities”, the media house stated.

Business / Disappointed customers describe horrific experiences using Ecobank by aljazirahnews: 6:45pm On Aug 21, 2022
What do you do when you have a bad result? You try to liven things up with some good news. This has not been the case with Ecobank mobile app as customers have aired their frustration using the bank and its mobile app for business transactions.

This newspaper recalls that in February 2022, House of Representatives Committee on Customs and Excise recommended that Ecobank be suspended until it was able to pay the outstanding amount due to the federal government. Committee chairman, Leke Abejide said that the committee had been on the assignment for over a year, insisting that any bank that failed to show the amount collected for customs duties would also be suspended.

But Oche Adejoh, Regional Compliant Manager, Ecobank, said that the bank has completed all its remittances. He said that Ecobank currently had no remittances to make, adding that this was why the bank employed an independent entity, KPMG, to do the relevant investigation.

However, Ecobank Nigerian operations have been characterized by a multitude of ugly decisions. Ecobank acquired the assets and liabilities of All States Trust Bank and Hallmark Bank in 2006. In October 2011, ETI acquired Oceanic Bank Plc. The entire share capital of Oceanic was cancelled, while its shareholders received one ordinary share of $0.025 and $0.428 preference shares of $0.1032 in ETI, for every 20 held in Oceanic Bank.

The string of acquisitions, especially in Nigeria has left the bank looking for character and a cultural fit. The bank often looks like a relic of the old days and fails to cater to the younger more tech-savvy millennials highly courted by their rival banks. Ex-staff of Oceanic Bank who were subsumed during the acquisition complained bitterly about the slow pace in marketing and execution not often found in the so-called new generation banks. The bank is in dire need of fresh ideas.

Here are few of the review Globaltimesng garnered from Ecobank customers.

Worse than useless- I am angry and frustrated

"For over a month I have been trying to send money - urgent transfers needed for a crisis situation and this awful app simply tells me each attempted transfer is an error. I have tried another 6 times today. I am going to close this account at Ecobank and move to a bank with an IT team that functions and thinks and actually responds to problems. I am sick of this trashy new app. This bank has caused me a lot of problems with this new technical junk and I am done."

Pius Odukudu, November 25, 2021

Why is this IT Team at Ecobank So USELESS and UNRESPONSIVE

"I have been trying to transfer money for the past 72 hours with no success. Messages sent to the consumer team are not responded to even with an acknowledgment?. WHY IS THIS BANK BECOMING SO USELESS? Would you mind reverting to the old OTP method?. I have a relation with a medical emergency that I need to send money to."

 Bosun Anjorin, June 7, 2022

If it is possible to give a 0 star , I probably would have done that . This is the most useless application I ever used. The navigation process is time consuming. Only to get back to the internet banking for a session expiration. It is mind draining.

Naija rules, January 30, 2022

This useless app is back at its below failure rate

I Withdraw my previous praise for the app and revert back to my original note that this is a failed awful app. The worst in global banking history. I got lucky once and thought they had worked out the bugs. But here we are again, I’ve sat all morning trying to get it to even start. I get three floating spots as the app goes on strike. Was this invented by a cobbler or carpenter? Shameful!

Bitchofkumazi, 10/27/2021

Stupid bank

Big time wasting of time bank and app it’s a frustrating app and stupid bank ,,,when I receive money I don’t have access to my bank again but when no money nothing happens. It shall not be well with you all eco bank i know you all gonna turn down to be a farmers or learn from other banks.

Sardrick, 01/30/2020

I love the bank but they have the worst customer service. They dont solve anythin

Maybe if I wrote this here, you all will see it and fix this. I don't know about anyone else but the time you take to fix things is very appalling. I have been chatting with customer care online and on the mobile app for the past 2 years for a name change they did wrong and not even my fault because I guess one of the employees cannot read a clear picture of my Driver’s license card and decided to spell my name wrong. They spelled it wrong and I have been complaining for the past 2 years but it hasnt been resolved. My name is SARDRICK OWUSU as seen everywhere on your files but my name has been spelled “SHADRICK OWUSU” on the online banking profile. This is ridiculous. Its not my name and I want it changed. Im sorry if its coming out mean, im saying this out of respect. I am just upset because I have been telling customer service for the past 2 years that my name on the online internet is wrong and still hasn’t been fixed. It is either I dont get a response at all or you respond it has been taken care of but I go check and it hasnt been changed. Im sorry but that is very wrong to be battling just for a name change the bank spelled wrongly and wasn’t even my fault,

Unplanned app release

It seems like this application was released before sufficient planning and testing. How could the app not recognize a debit card that was issued by the bank. I have been trying to register online banking using the app with my accurate debit card details with no luck. Online customer chat support states that it’s available 24/7 but customers are having to wait for hours just to end up not getting any support during weekend days. That’s misleading. You can’t just throw out an app that doesn’t work 90% of the time. Work with your developers on efficiency rate assessment. Giving the app access to verify customer’s information using the company’s database shouldn’t be that complicated. Your online banking ads are misleading to consumers. Eco bank’s online banking systems need to be updated with new and accurate codes.

Business / GTB Customer Faints As N2.95m Disappears From His Account by aljazirahnews: 10:49am On Jan 28, 2022
On December 31, 2021, Bankole Clement woke up happy to see the last day of the year. Like many people, he had exciting New Year celebration plans for himself and his family. He was looking forward to entering 2022.

But Bankole soon started receiving debit alerts for transactions he never carried out. By afternoon, N2.95 million had been deducted from his Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) account.

“I’d been hearing stories of people getting debit alerts for transactions they did not carry out, but I never thought it could happen to me, being a very careful person,” he told FIJ.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes when those debit alerts started coming in the afternoon, at past one. He said he experienced all kinds of emotions on sighting the debit notifications on his phone.
“Suddenly, I found myself on the bathroom floor, and in a pool of water. I also heard people shouting my name from a distance not too far from where I was lying. When I eventually looked around, I saw that people were praising God on my behalf. I had indeed fainted as a result of the development.”

Bankole would later visit the GTB branch closest to where he lived in Agbowo, Ibadan, Oyo State, in the company of his wife.

A female customer care officer, who checked Bankole’s account, discovered he only had a little over N9,000 as balance. He was then given a dispute form to fill with a promise that the incident would be investigated and that a resolution would be communicated to him as soon as possible.

However, Bankole has not got any favourable feedback from GTB.

“Looking at the debit alerts I had received, the funds were moved to a Sporty Bet account, and when I contacted Sporty Bet, I was told my Bank (GTB) would have to be very proactive in helping me recover back the money. Later in the day, I got a call from Sporty Bet informing me that a part of the money had been moved to Sparkle Microfinance Bank,” he said

“I have never at any point in my life placed a bet, because I have always been contented with the little I have. How my account details became public knowledge, such that fraudsters were able to have access to my funds, is what I demand to know. This goes to show that customers’ savings are no longer safe with these banks.

“These are funds I have been saving up to process my postgraduate admission in the United Kingdom. I need GTB to help recover my money,” said Bankole.

FIJ made several calls to GTB, but they were not answered. An email sent to the bank had also not been responded to at press time.

Celebrities / Britney Spears’ Ex-husband Arrested For Stalking!! by aljazirahnews: 5:41pm On Jan 05, 2022
Jason Alexander, the former husband of Britney Spears, has been arrested for stalking.

Alexander was arrested on Dec. 30 in Franklin, Tenn., for violating of an order of protection and aggravated stalking a booking officer, Page Six reports. His third arrest in a year.

He is being held in the Williamson County jail on a $30,000 bond and will appear before a judge next month.

Britney married Jason at A Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas in January 2004 -- but the marriage was annulled 55 hours later.

EVE HAVING MARITAL PROBLEMS??

In September, Alexander was arrested at a Tennessee airport for breaching security.

According to a spokesman at the Davidson County Sheriff's Office, he was "booked into jail on Aug. 29 and released on Aug. 30" after the Nashville airport incident. He was released on a $2,500 bond.

Travel / Dana Plane, Speeding Car In Near-Collision On Lagos Airport Taxiway by aljazirahnews: 8:37am On Jan 05, 2022
A mishap was averted at the airside of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos when a speeding vehicle had a near collision with a Dana Air plane taxiing to take off on Runway 18L of the airport.

The unfortunate incident, which happened on December 21, 2021, occurred barely one week after a landing Max Air jet almost rammed into a malfunctioning car being tested on Runway 18L.

However, the latest incident involved a Dana Air MD 83 plane with registration number 5N JOY which was departing Lagos airport for Enugu with a total of 157 passengers and seven crew members on board.

The aircraft was taxiing to join Runway 18L for take-off when the speeding car almost rammed into it.

A taxiway is a path for aircraft that connects a runway with another area of an airport.

Sources close to the incident said the vehicle, reportedly belonging to the Nigeria Customs Service, was being driven by one of its officers when the incident occurred.

The angry pilot was said to have immediately called the Lagos airport control tower to report the incident.

NAMA officials at the control tower subsequently alerted FAAN’s airside personnel who swiftly went after the driver.

A FAAN source close to the incident said, “The pilot of Dana Air flight 0371 complained angrily about a military vehicle that drove dangerously past his nose, forcing him to apply brakes suddenly. The NAMA officials in the control tower sighted the vehicle and instructed FAAN airside personnel to apprehend the team immediately.

“The vehicle was apprehended by MM123. It was reported to the control tower that it was a Customs vehicle. They were immediately taken to AVSEC for further questioning. The Dana plane was later airborne at 11:27am. The name of the Customs driver who was apprehended by MM123 is Wilfed .T. with ODC number 36789.”

Officials of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria confirmed the incident on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to speak on the matter.

Also, the General Manager, Public Affairs, FAAN, Mrs Henrieta Yakubu, confirmed the development but said the agency had since improved security at the airside of the airport after the incident.

“We have reinforced security on the airside,” she said. She did not give further details.

However, FAAN officials suspected the driver was not probably trained in airside driving.

“Other agencies deploy new officers to the airport from time to time but I am not sure if FAAN ensures these officers are trained in airside driving. I suspect this driver was not properly trained in airside driving. It is unlikely someone trained in airside driving will behave in such a very dangerous manner,”’ a FAAN official said on condition of anonymity.

FAAN had suspended some officials after the Max Air incident. Our correspondent could not confirm if a similar action was taken after the latest incident but officials said the agency needed to take steps to strengthen airside security at the flagship airport.

FAAN had been involved in some major runway and airside incursion incidents in the past.

There was pandemonium at the airside of the Lagos airport on December 27, 2019 as an unidentified man found his way into the airside mysteriously and mounted a moving Air Peace plane.

The man was later arrested by security operatives who were notified by the pilot of a private jet coming behind the Air Peace plane.

The incident happened barely six months after a man found his way into the Lagos airport and climbed a Port Harcourt-bound Azman Airlines plane.

The man, believed to be mentally ill, was later identified as Usman Adamu from the Republic of Niger.

The Police said the Nigerien could not speak or understand English Language.

The authorities said then that investigation was still ongoing to ascertain how Adamu gained access to the restricted area at the airport.

According to a video clip by one of the Port Harcourt-bound passengers, Adamu was seen entering the fuselage of the aircraft with hand luggage and also climbing one of its wings.

He was later apprehended by Aviation Security Personnel of FAAN and taken to its detention facility before the case was transferred to the Police for further investigation.

Romance / How To Have Sex In High Heels by aljazirahnews: 7:20pm On Jan 04, 2022
Why Are High Heels So Sexy?

All women know that as soon as you put on a pair of high heels a whole outfit can suddenly be transformed. High heels don’t only transform outfits; they can also transform personalities and add sex appeal by giving a woman height, authority and self-confidence. When you wear high heels you feel like your legs are longer and shapelier, so you look better in skirts and tight jeans. High heels also make your hips swing as you walk, which means you get more attention when you walk past a guy because his eyes are drawn to your bum!

How Does All Of This Translate To The Bedroom Though?

You might feel a bit silly wearing high heels in the bedroom – especially when you have taken all of your clothes off! I mean, shoes normally come off first, don’t they? Not if you want to tap into the erotic element of fantasy that is going to turn you and your boyfriend on during sex. If you dare to wear your high heels to bed, your man is instantly going to know that the sex tonight is going to be hot! The mere act of you leaving your high heels on is suggestive of dominance, which is one main fantasy-inspired turn-on that men link high-heeled shoes to. Even if you are not much of a dominatrix, leaving your high heels on during sex will make the sex seem naughty and spontaneous. Leave some of your clothes on too and you will feel like you are being ravished!

But How Does It Work? How Do You Actually Acquire Sex In High Heels?

Well, it’s surely not rocket science ladies! You have sex in exactly the same fashion as you would normally have sex only you will, of course, be wearing your high heel shoes.  You might want to think about a few things though in order to maximize the visual and physical experience for both you and your partner.

How Tall Is Your Portionner?

If your guy is fairly short then wearing absurdly high heels may cause a bit of a problem – if you’re having sex standing up. This is remedied by positioning yourself on a surface, such as a desk, so that there are no coital alignment issues! If your guy is tall then go for it and have him take you from behind while you are leaning over the desk with your legs straight and wide apart.

How Comfortable Are Your Shoes?

There is no point in wearing high heels if they are causing you so much pain that you can’t focus on receiving (or giving) any pleasure! Choose shoes that actually fit, and if you’re not used to standing or walking in heels, then avoid toppling over and twisting your ankle mid-thrust by lying down on your back or straddling your man with your knees firmly planted on a soft surface.

Can Your Man Actually See The Shoes?

If not, then you may as well be wearing wellington boots for all he cares! Positions yourself so that he can enjoy the visual treat while you are having sex.

Safety First…

Design sure that your heels are not likely to stub your poor guy’s feet because that would be the end of everything – for both of you. As far as I can recall, men’s joysticks don’t stand up to any sort of non-sex-related pain. Probably best to make sure those sharp heels are nowhere near his manly areas either!

What Are The Best Sex Positions For Having Sex In High Heels?

After some careful thinking, I’ve come up with this list of sex positions to get you started on thinking up some good ways to integrate your high heel shoe collection into your sex routine.

Legs In The Air

This is precisely as it sounds. Lie on your back – on a bed, desk, floor or other surface – wearing your high heels of course, and let your guy enter you whilst lifting your legs in the air so that...

Celebrities / Burnaboy Arrives Ghana Ahead Of “boxing Match” With Shatta Wale (photos) by aljazirahnews: 7:10pm On Jan 04, 2022
Fresh reports currently making waves on the internet purports that Grammy winner, Burnaboy, has arrived in Ghana ahead of his boxing match with Shatta Wale.

A couple of pictures that have gone rife on the local digital space captures the moment the Nigerian superstar touched down at the Kotoka International airport.

It can be recalled that over the weekends, Burnaboy through a series of posts on his Insta Stories challenged Shatta Wale to a boxing match to ultimately quash the beef between them.

Burnaboy vowed to make Shatta Wale toothless after the combat because he’s much stronger than him.

Shatta Wale earlier declined the boxing match and proposed for a lyrical contest rather.

But after a thread of boastful talks from Burnaboy, he agreed to face him in the boxing ring and additionally warned the “Bank On It” singer not to step foot in Ghana if he values his life.

Daredevil Burnaboy promised to storm Ghana on Tuesday which is today to see if Shatta Wale is a man of his words and can make him regret the visit as he had vowed to do.

Well, if Burnaboy has truly arrived in Ghana as the circulating pictures suggest, then we will be witnessing the boxing match between the two musicians very soon.

Pls I need help on my honda pilot 2004 model.
Sometimes the pedal does not respond to acceleration while driving. But throttle again or thrice it will respond. Then I have to throttle continuously for about 5 to 10km before the acceleration will normalize. I have changed transmission oil (using original honda Atf), engine oil, plugs, cleaned nozzles; yet the problem still persist( though doesn't happen all the time). I've really spent gud money but the prob still persists. Any suggestions/soln will be highly appreciated.

I am currently having same issues with my pilot. How were you able to resolve it?

Crime / How Abdulrasheed Maina Used UBA Account For Money Laundering by aljazirahnews: 3:07pm On Nov 08, 2021
How Abdulrasheed Maina used UBA account for money laundering

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday found Abdulrasheed Maina, the former chairman of the now-defunct Pension Reformed Task Team guilty of money laundering.

While further delivering his judgement, Justice Abang found Maina guilty of concealing his true identity as a signatory to accounts opened in two banks – UBA and Fidelity bank – by using the identity of his family members without their knowledge.

These accounts had cash deposits of N300million, N500million, and N1.5billion.

Recall that in 2019, Mairo Abdulahi Bashir, a business manager with United Bank for Africa, UBA, and first prosecution witness, (PW1), in the ongoing trial of Abdulrasheed  Maina, former chairman, Pension Reform Task Team before Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Friday, November 29, 2019 disclosed that  Maina used his sister’s name to open a secret bank account with the UBA, through which funds were transferred.  According to the witness, Maina passed off the account as belonging to his sister, while he actually operated it.

She revealed that sometime in 2011, she solicited fund from the defendant while he was the chairman of Pension Reforms Task Team and that Mr Maina made a deposit of N3 billion in the UBA which she said, was later transferred to the Treasury Single Account, TSA with CBN around 2012.

To further grow the bank’s deposit base, the witness said she approached Mr Maina for more deposits, prompting the defendant to open 12 accounts for himself and his immediate family members, which included two accounts for the defendant-one in Naira and another in United State Dollars. Also two accounts for the defendant’s wife and accounts for his daughters: Fauzial Abdlrasheed Maina, Fareeda Abdlrasheed Maina and Fadeela Abdlrasheed Maina.

In a judgement being delivered by Justice Okon Abang, the court held that the prosecutor, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has produced essential evidence through witnesses to prove beyond reasonable doubt that Maina is guilty of money laundering in the sum of N171,099,000.

The court added that the defendant (Maina), called only one witness to his defense when he had the opportunity to call as many as he could.

The court held that Maina stole monies meant for pensioners as he could not prove where he got them from.

Justice Abang also held that through Maina’s service as a civil servant, his salary and emoluments will not amount to the monies in these accounts.

The court also found Maina guilty for the purchase of a property in Abuja paid in cash in the sum of $1.4million, which is above the statutory threshold of N5million and without passing through a financial institution, describing it as a criminal offense.

Business / UBA Fingered In N48.5b Customer’s Account Manipulation by aljazirahnews: 10:01pm On Oct 26, 2021
United Bank of Africa, UBA has been named among banks that removed N48.5 billion from customers’ Accounts as charges for maintenance in six months.

Account maintenance costs are levied on all customer-initiated debit transactions, and the bank collects these fees at the time of the transaction.

The amount debited is at least 10% of the total customers’ deposits as at the end of June 30, 2021 The Bank Customers Association of Nigeria (BCAN) has urged the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to rethink and probe account maintenance fees.

According to a report, ten commercial banks, including United Bank of Africa generated about N48.5billion from maintaining customers’ accounts in the first six months of the year.

The banks in the prior six months of 2020 had raked N32.62 billion for account maintenance charges on customers’ savings, current and term deposits

According to the report, between January to June United Bank of Africa removed, under the debit for account maintenance procedure, N5.4 billion during the six months period.

Meanwhile, Bank Customers Association of Nigeria (BCAN) had before now, asked the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to investigate how banks debited their customers.

Sola Salako, then-President of the BCAN, in 2018 characterized the account maintenance costs as a fraud, underlining that the CBN is aiding banks in generating money by doing nothing.

“We strongly oppose the CBN’s account maintenance fees, which were implemented in 2016.

“It’s just another way for banks to take money from their customers while they do nothing.

“In Nigeria, banks just charge for account maintenance,” she explained.

Investment / How Two Ladies Lose N1.9m Investment To Grow Crops Online by aljazirahnews: 6:17am On Aug 28, 2021
Chioma Agwuegbo first heard of Grow Crops Online at an investment class she attended in 2017. Everything seemed fine with the platform. Grow Crops Online claimed to help people rent parcels of land and grow any crop on it. At the end of nine months, the investor gets back their money and 30% Return on Investment (ROI).

On its website, Grow Crops portrayed itself as a safe investment platform where anyone could own and run an actual farm from anywhere with smartphones.

“The farming process is insured from planting to harvest, so you never lose money!” the platform screamed. But little did Chioma know she would lose good money.

“In 2017 and 2018, I invested with them and got my money back. I invested in pumpkin and got paid after nine months. So I invested for the third time, this time inviting my friend to join the platform,” Chioma said.

Chioma and Omowunmi Agunloye subscribed to Grow Crops’ ‘Early Bird Max Scheme’ in October 2018 by investing N970,000 each. Chioma rented five hectares of land — same as her friend — to grow pumpkins. By July 2019, as stated in a certificate issued by Grow Crops, they were to get their money and ROI.

“In June 2019, Grow Crops sent a mail, stating that they wanted to explore the production of serum and that it might take time before they got a NAFDAC number for the product. I understood. But by October, a year after I subscribed, I called to ask why I was yet to get my ROI, but Grow Crops said they would start paying,” she told FIJ.

Grow Crops assured Chioma she would get her ROI in November since she was an Early Bird Max subscriber. In a newsletter dated May 26, 2019, the company said, “We would, however, still be giving you Early Bird Max subscribers privileges, which still include priority in payment of income and many other perks we will be announcing shortly.”

Crime / #EndOpayNow: Nigerians condemn Opay poor services as many customers get scammed by aljazirahnews: 2:49pm On Aug 14, 2021
Many Nigerians have taken to social media to call for an end to Opay services across the country, citing poor services and alleged fraudulent activities.

Opay, a daughter company of the Opera Group, began operation in Nigeria in 2018 and has since expanded across all states.

According to its Facebook page description, OPay is a financial technology company that empowers users and enables them to accomplish more with their money by providing smart financial services.

Many of Opay’s customers, and even mobile money agents have frowned on the lackadaisical attitude of the company’s customer care department; poor services from the company; and alleged that some of the customer care team are engaged in fraudulent activities.
These are evident in the customer reviews on Opay app, and comments on Facebook, including few Lagosians Skynewsngr interviewed.

A victim, Nwanga Godspower Ikechukwu, said, “No one is claiming to be OPay staff . Your staffs are really behind the fraudulent transfers from people’s accounts. Do your internal investigation. Get the staffs behind it and refund my 600 hundred thousand NAIRA (600k)#EndOpayNow#.”

Corroborating Ikechukwu, Kabiru Aminu said, “likewise me, Some idiot called themselves Opay Agent that I should give them my OTP, for me all this Opay Staff are behind all this nonsense.”

An Opay mobile money agent, Brenda ID said “I hate this Opay. My customer was debited for a failed transaction and up till today you people are busy telling me we will get back to you every time.”
