The Champions League is not strictly for champions - I would have thought you were intelligent enough to understand that. It's name is a vestige of it's historical origins and not a strict interpretation of it's current format.

You cannot remove glamourous, popular clubs of England, Spain and Italy simply because they are not champions - if you do this, the revenue generating ability of the tournament and it's allure and number of world class games would reduce. Audiences worldwide will not tune into many of those games.

If you want to make a philosophical argument for the Champions League to be ONLY for champions, then contact Platini - he needs a new asinine scheme to screw up European Football anyways.
