Hello everyone. Please is there anybody that has registered a business here? I’m researching into that but I’d like some pointers from someone that has been through the process already. Just a summary of the whole process is like. Are there any restrictions maybe because of the type of visa you’re on or anything like that? Thank you.

Also about the credit card, where’s the best place for a JJC to start from? I’ve been scared to look that way.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by assumpta1: 4:06pm On Jul 23, 2020

Yes to changes on all..... Even your bank statements etc etc etc.........

Have you set your targets too high, in looking for a job?
Not really. I’ve been sending in my applications for different positions and I honestly don’t mind standing from the bottom and working my way up. I just need to get my foot in the door. I’m getting fed up. sad
TravelRe: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by assumpta1: 4:13pm On Mar 05, 2020
Hi guys! It’s really been a long time. Trying to settle down here and the weather. Still hunting for a job. I pray I get one soon as I’m starting to get tired. I have lost count of the number of rejection mails I got but thank God I’ve attended some interviews now. Still waiting for response while submitting more applications. Any suggestions or tips on how to land a good job or even get any job to keep my busy will be appreciated.
Please I need to renew my passport as it will expire in few months. But I also want my new surname on it. How do I go about this? And also will I have to change the name on my brp to match the new name on the passport? Thank you all for your help.

TravelRe: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by assumpta1:
So as the JJC that I am, I just want to be sure of somethings. So pardon my many questions. How much do you think is reasonable to spend monthly on heating a 1 bedroom apartment? It has 3 radiators. The agent in charge of the apartment want me to set up a standing order of £20 a month for heating and hot water. Is this a good deal?
EPC rating is B.
Also what are the red flags to look out for in a tenancy contract. I’ve just finished reading over 20 pages of the contract sad I will read it again before signing just to be sure.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by assumpta1: 7:22pm On Nov 13, 2019
Just wanted to be sure of how hot it gets during summer. grin
Aphrodite007:
Wait, you were seriously looking for AC? Like I don’t understand, the 7 degrees is not enough? grin

I honestly thought you were joking!
TravelRe: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by assumpta1: 11:11pm On Nov 12, 2019
Wow! Thanks
LagosismyHome:
I have only seen one house with installed Ac , dont know if it works self.... so you be alright.

Houses in UK typically dont have Ac. If you are hot just buy a fan
TravelRe: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by assumpta1: 11:07pm On Nov 12, 2019
Thank you so much for always answering my questions.
Lexusgs430:
An example..........

This would cost you £2295 (brand new)

Something similar in a charity shop, ebay, gumtree, facebook market etc etc. Would only cost you about £600......

You could get a very good pair of lazyboys from ebay @£120/£150........
TravelRe: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by assumpta1: 9:51pm On Nov 12, 2019
Please help with both. I will compare and decide or mix both.
Lexusgs430:
Used or new?.... huh
TravelRe: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by assumpta1: 9:19pm On Nov 12, 2019
grin Thank you
Lexusgs430:
A 9ja shop is in Luton (Chatham)...... Not Luton on the M1....... grin

She sells everything you want..............
TravelRe: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by assumpta1: 9:19pm On Nov 12, 2019
Ok thank you!
Lexusgs430:
Why buy a gum wall version? If renting, look through your tenancy agreement/seek landlords consent.....

Just buy a portable AC unit...... Be careful so you don't buy an humidifier or fan wey u go dey load with ice block...... cheesy
TravelRe: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by assumpta1: 9:18pm On Nov 12, 2019
Thank you. Which one is Facebook shop?
Aphrodite007:
Facebook shop or B&Q or gumtree.

TravelRe: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by assumpta1: 7:32pm On Nov 12, 2019
Will I be allowed to install AC? My apartment does not come with an AC installed sad
Lexusgs430:
It gets really really hot........ You would require an AC, if you want to sleep well.......

Standing fan would never fan the heat away.......... grin
TravelRe: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by assumpta1: 7:31pm On Nov 12, 2019
That story of Chartham is for another day. I can’t even explain how I got to Chartham instead of Chatham.
Any particular place in Chatham or Gillingham before I get lost again? I don’t have the Naija type freezers sad
Lexusgs430:
You might have to head down to Chatham or Gillingham (not Chartham), which is closer to Ashford.

Alternatively, if you have our 9ja type freezers (baban mutum), head to Charlton and do you 9ja 3 months shopping.......... tongue
TravelRe: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by assumpta1: 7:53pm On Nov 11, 2019
How hot does it get during summer? And why is that most houses don’t have AC? Is it because it is not necessary? Or how do you cope when it gets hot?
TravelRe: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by assumpta1: 7:50pm On Nov 11, 2019
Ashford

TravelRe: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by assumpta1: 6:18pm On Nov 02, 2019
Lol. Thank you
Lexusgs430:
Kent is a massive county. Which area in Kent? From one Kent location, to another could take you 1 hour plus driving..............

Landlords directly, only of you know them directly or word of mouth.......

Agents - zoopla, rightmove (justwise favourite, gumtree or shopfronts)

Also check out AirBnB, for long term arrangements.......

Jobs in Kent? How many hours can you work? Olomi loma rèé......... cheesy Gaa fili Gaa Doki......... wink
TravelRe: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by assumpta1: 6:17pm On Nov 02, 2019

TravelRe: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by assumpta1: 10:33am On Oct 28, 2019
Hi guys! Where can I check for apartments direct from landlord? Or from agents too. Also what’s living in Kent like? Are there good jobs in Kent too?
TravelRe: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by assumpta1: 9:51am On Oct 22, 2019
Thank you! I got my brp from the school last week and nothing was attached to the back.
fatima04:
When did you get your BRP? It is now being added to the back of BRP of recent applicant (dependent applicant), so no need to apply.

For jobs, update your CV and LinkedIn profile, post your CV details on all job site you can lay your hands on(reed, cvlibrary, totaljobs, indeed etc). Apply for jobs related to your experience with good structured cover letter and keep "shooting your shot" with any job advert that can be tailored to your expertise.

Be resilient and call as many recruiters as you can for followup. Will add more tips if I remember.

All the best
