The Ijaw Nation has been thrown into mourning following the death of a former acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Pastor Power Aginighan.

Aginighan reportedly died in a fatal accident that involved his son, Tammy, and his police orderly along the Mbiama section of the East-West Road, Bayelsa State, on Friday.The trio reportedly lost their lives on the spot.

The late former NDDC boss is also one of the leaders of the Delta State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress. He was the leader of the Delta Ijaw APC until his passage.

Many sources in the state including the State Treasurer of the APC, Mr. Ebiakpo Ezebiri, confirmed the development to our correspondent.ur sources could not, however, confirm the identity of the police escort, and the time the incident occurred.

It was learnt that the vehicle they were travelling in was crushed by a truck on their way to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, which burst into flames burning them beyond recognition.

Aginighan had returned to Delta State on Thursday to host one of the leading aspirants on the platform of the APC, Prof Pat Utomi, and was returning home when the incident took place.

Ezebiri, while confirming the unfortunate incident, said, “We were together on Thursday when we hosted Professor Utomi.

“People were trying to reach him yesterday to get his attention on some matters, but he was unreachable, nobody knew he was dead.

“The accident happened during the day, but since they had been burnt beyond recognition, nobody could have known who was involved. He was in the vehicle with his son and his police escort when the accident happened just after the Mbiama bridge.

“Some of our people have already gone to the scene of the accident to retrieve the bodies. We are in mourning, this is very painful.”An Ijaw leader who did not want his name in print also confirmed the incident, describing it as a big blow to the Ijaw Nation where he (Aginighan) had held several traditional positions.

Former Golden Eaglets goalkeeper Francis Uzoho hailed a memorable Deportivo La Coruna debut after keeping a clean sheet in Sunday’s 0-0 draw at Eibar, BBC Sport reports.

The 18-year-old, who arrived at the club from Qatar’s Aspire Academy in January, produced four important saves to help Deportivo claim a point.

A former Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Mr Oseloka Obaze, has won the primary election of the People Democratic Party in Anambra State for the November 18 governorship poll in the state.

Obaze polled 672 to defeat his closest rival, Dr Alex Obiogbolu, who scored 190.

Dr Ifeanyi Uba, the CEO of Capital Oil, came third with 94 votes.

Two votes were declared invalid while a total of 958 delegates were accredited for the poll.

A former minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, Linda Ikpeazu and John Emeka had before the commencement of accreditation of delegates withdrawn from the exercise.

While announcing his withdrawal from the contest, Emeka cited irregularities in the party’s delegates’ list.

Dr Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, who supervised the election, declared Oseloka Obaze the winner of the poll.

Obaze served as the SSG to the Anambra State Government from 2012 to 2015 under former governor Peter Obi and the incumbent governor, Willie Obiano.

In his speech, Ifeanyi Uba commended the security operatives for the peaceful conduct of the poll.

He, however, observed that the delegates’ list was given to the aspirants two days to the poll, making it too late for some of the aspirants to campaign.

He alleged irregularities in the exercise and said he would go court to challenge the election result.

RiversState Commissioner for Police, Zaki Ahmed, has disclosed that one Pastor Samuel Okpara from Edoha community in Ahoada East, Rivers State, was abducted, killed and used to prepare pepper soup.

Ahmed stated this yesterday while parading 25 suspects in Port Harcourt, arrested for their involvement in various criminal activities in the state.

He has also restated that the state police command was determined to re-arrest the suspected ritualist, Ifeanyi Dike, who escaped from custody after murdering an eight-year-old girl on August 19, 2017.

The commissioner of police added that N1 million has been pledged as reward for any member of the public with useful information that would lead to the arrest the fleeing suspect.

Ahmed said that Okpara was abducted by a notorious kidnap gang in Edoha on August 15, 2017, killed and beheaded, adding that his liver and intestines were used to prepare pepper soup and plantain porridge.

The police boss further disclosed that, during the onslaught against kidnapping by men of the Anti-KidnappingUnit (AKU), one Roland Peter, a member of the gang, was arrested.

According to Ahmed, the gang’s leader was identified as Justus, popularly called High-Tension, from Amarikpo in the same LGA.

He told journalists that the AKU also rescued 13 kidnap victims, nabbed seven suspects, killed six bandits and foiled three kidnap attempts.

Meanwhile, Peter has denied any involvement in the abduction and killing of Okpara, describing himself also as pastor.

Former Super Eagles captain, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha is part of an 11-man panel that selected the nominees for The Best FIFA Men’s Player 2017 award.

The panel, which includes Argentina legend Diego Maradona and Brazil’s Cafu, has compiled a 23-man shortlist for the award, according to a statement on Fifa website.

The shortlist will now be made public on Thursday, August 17 by Fifa.

From the final shortlist, key members of the footballing community – journalists, fans, national team coaches and captains – will vote for the winner, with the final three nominees to be announced at a later date.
Nominees in other categories that will also be decided on Thursday are Best FIFA Women’s Coach, Best FIFA Men’s Coach and Best FIFA Women’s Player.
