Religion / Is Using Igbo Wooden Flute (oja) In Traditional Gospel Music Demonic? (video) by bedtimestory: 7:38am On Jan 05, 2018
In the video below teaching Nigerian kids abroad how to play and blend traditional Igbo gospel music, traditional wooden flute called 'Oja' normally used in most Igbo cultural ceremonies was incorporated. Some people liked it, while some didn't. However, the Yoruba talking drums, Fuji music, and even traditional Yoruba 'Apala' music have become integral parts of modern day praise and worship in Nigerian churches. My question is 'why are certain African traditional musical instruments like the wooden flute "Oja" demonized? Surprisingly it's demonized by the same Igbos who own it while they embrace instruments from other cultures.

Why can't we be proud of our African cultural heritage, use it to serve God and don't treat it as inferior and demonic?

Watch the controversial 3 mins educational video produced by US-based Nigerian cultural promoter, Mr. Godwin C. Nwaogwugwu, to the end and let's know what you think.

Religion / A Nigerian Church Gave Out 500 Turkeys To The Less Privileged In USA (video) by bedtimestory: 4:24am On Nov 30, 2017
These are some of the great news about Nigerians you never hear, but if it’s the story of fraud, crime and domestic violence by a minority few it will make headlines in all blogs.

The members of this small RCCG Chapel, Mercy Seat Chapel, in Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA has a tradition of giving out free Turkeys to the less privileged every Thanksgiving period and free toys to children every Christmas. During last week’s Thanksgiving in the USA, they performed a feat, and gave out 500 free Turkeys to the less privileged, all through the contributions of members. smiley smiley smiley

Watch the video and see for yourself. I was there, witnessed it and recorded with my phone camera.

Thank you Pastor Ola Olarinde and the Mercy Seat Chapel.

TV/Movies / One God Different Prayers-metaphorical Bedtime Story By Godwin Nwaogwugwu(video) by bedtimestory: 4:39am On Aug 15, 2017
In most African folklore, a Tortoise depicts either a ticklish or deceitful character. In this metaphorical story, a Tortoise opened a ‘Prayer house’ and deceived his two clients, a Chicken and a Fox, to believe that he was helping them solve their problems, while he wasn’t, yet both walked home satisfied believing in the Tortoise’ recommendations. A mimic of what happens today in most organized religions

Culture / Why I Wrote ‘african Bedtime Stories(1)’- Godwin Nwaogwugwu (peoples Daily) by bedtimestory: 2:54pm On Jul 10, 2017
African Bedtime Stories(1), is a collection of some old popular African folk tales. The storybook which comprises thirteen stories in it are well written with morals to guide children in life.

“My main objective of writing the book is to bring our children(African kids) closer to their root, outside the Cartoon Network and Disney World they are now familiar with. I was also motivated to write these stories when I wanted to expose my own children to bedtime stories with African themes and couldn’t find any of such books.

“Earlier in 2016, I traveled to Nigeria on vacation and noticed that some group of children had started acting out some stories in the book, I got the idea that the book could be made into a video. I contacted a veteran TV newscaster and a TV programme anchor together with the kids that saw to the making of the video, thirteen stories of the book were made into thirteen movie episodes. These episodes have become a social media buzz within and outside Nigeria, now with a YouTube channel and a Facebook page”.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrv3IVB9u8qCopRJvaG-oKg

https://www.facebook.com/africanbedtimestory/.

The book which is focused on morals was acted in an African settings to showcase our rich culture that’s usually transmitted from one generation to another. I hope this will help promote African culture of story-telling once again in families and children will learn from the morals. I want this documented work to be passed down to generations unborn

From the 13 Episode Book "African Bedtime Stories (1)" By Godwin C. Nwaogwugwu

A short, low-budget movie based on African Bedtime Stories acted by all amateur kid actors/actresses at Owerri Nigeria. It's all free! The movies were based on the book 'African Bedtime Stories ' written by Mr. Godwin C. Nwaogwugwu.

This is the folklore story of how a lazy Trickster married a proud Princess. The Princess was so arrogant and material-minded. She turned down all the eligible men who proposed to her because they didn't have money but ended up marrying a wretched Trickster who borrowed things to impress her. A very good mural lesson for growing children.
