Crime / Samsung Boss Goes To Jail by Blogger2021: 11:48am On Jan 20
Billionaire Samsung heir Lee Jae-yong was sent back to prison on Monday after a South Korean court sentenced him to two and a half years over his involvement in a 2016 corruption scandal that spurred massive street protests and ousted South Korea’s then-president.

In a much-anticipated retrial, the Seoul High Court found Lee guilty of bribing then-President Park Geun-hye and her close confidante to win government support for a 2015 merger between two Samsung affiliates that helped strengthen his control of the country’s largest business group.

Lee’s lawyers had portrayed him as a victim of presidential power abuse and described the 2015 deal as part of “normal business activity”.

Wearing a mask and black suit and tie, Lee was taken into custody following the ruling. He didn’t answer questions by reporters upon his arrival at the court.

Injae Lee, an attorney who leads Lee Jae-yong’s defense team, expressed regret over the court’s decision, saying that the “essence of the case is that a former president abused power to infringe upon the freedom and property rights of a private company”.

He didn’t say whether there would be an appeal. Samsung did not issue a statement over the ruling.

Lee Jae-yong helms the Samsung group in his capacity as vice-chairman of Samsung Electronics, one of the world’s largest makers of computer chips and smartphones.

In September last year, prosecutors separately indicted Lee on charges of stock price manipulation, breach of trust, and auditing violations related to the 2015 merger.

Strong financial year for Samsung
It isn’t immediately clear what his prison term will mean for Samsung. The company didn’t show many signs of trouble during Lee’s previous stint in jail in 2017 and 2018, and prison terms have never really stopped South Korean corporate leaders from relaying their management decisions from behind bars.

Samsung is ending a robust business year, with its dual strength in parts and finished products enabling it to benefit from the coronavirus pandemic and the prolonged trade war between United States and China.

Samsung’s semiconductor business rebounded sharply after a sluggish 2019, driven by high demand for PCs and servers as virus outbreaks forced millions of people to stay and work at home.

The Trump administration’s sanctions against China’s Huawei Technologies have meanwhile hindered one of Samsung’s biggest rivals in smartphones, smartphone chips and telecommunications equipment.

Foreign Affairs / Donald Trump Delivers Farewell Speech From White House (video) by Blogger2021: 9:42am On Jan 20
President Trump  resident Trump released a 19-minute farewell message to the nation via video on Tuesday afternoon celebrating his administration’s achievements and vowing that the populist movement he started is “only just beginning.”

Below is the full text of his speech.

My fellow Americans: Four years ago, we launched a great national effort to rebuild our country, to renew its spirit, and to restore the allegiance of this government to its citizens. In short, we embarked on a mission to make America great again — for all Americans.

As I conclude my term as the 45th President of the United States, I stand before you truly proud of what we have achieved together. We did what we came here to do — and so much more.

This week, we inaugurate a new administration and pray for its success in keeping America safe and prosperous. We extend our best wishes, and we also want them to have luck — a very important word.

I’d like to begin by thanking just a few of the amazing people who made our remarkable journey possible.

First, let me express my overwhelming gratitude for the love and support of our spectacular First Lady, Melania. Let me also share my deepest appreciation to my daughter Ivanka, my son-in-law Jared, and to Barron, Don, Eric, Tiffany, and Lara. You fill my world with light and with joy.

I also want to thank Vice President Mike Pence, his wonderful wife Karen, and the entire Pence family.

Thank you as well to my Chief of Staff, Mark Meadows; the dedicated members of the White House Staff and the Cabinet; and all the incredible people across our administration who poured out their heart and soul to fight for America.

I also want to take a moment to thank a truly exceptional group of people: the United States Secret Service. My family and I will forever be in your debt. My profound gratitude as well to everyone in the White House Military Office, the teams of Marine One and Air Force One, every member of the Armed Forces, and state and local law enforcement all across our country.

Most of all, I want to thank the American people. To serve as your President has been an honor beyond description. Thank you for this extraordinary privilege. And that’s what it is — a great privilege and a great honor.

We must never forget that while Americans will always have our disagreements, we are a nation of incredible, decent, faithful, and peace-loving citizens who all want our country to thrive and flourish and be very, very successful and good. We are a truly magnificent nation.

All Americans were horrified by the assault on our Capitol. Political violence is an attack on everything we cherish as Americans. It can never be tolerated.

Now more than ever, we must unify around our shared values and rise above the partisan rancor, and forge our common destiny.

Four years ago, I came to Washington as the only true outsider ever to win the presidency. I had not spent my career as a politician, but as a builder looking at open skylines and imagining infinite possibilities. I ran for President because I knew there were towering new summits for America just waiting to be scaled. I knew the potential for our nation was boundless as long as we put America first.

So I left behind my former life and stepped into a very difficult arena, but an arena nevertheless, with all sorts of potential if properly done. America had given me so much, and I wanted to give something back.

Together with millions of hardworking patriots across this land, we built the greatest political movement in the history of our country. We also built the greatest economy in the history of the world. It was about “America First” because we all wanted to make America great again. We restored the principle that a nation exists to serve its citizens. Our agenda was not about right or left, it wasn’t about Republican or Democrat, but about the good of a nation, and that means the whole nation.

Health / Norway 33 Elderly People Die Within Days Of Receiving First Covid19 Vaccine Dose by Blogger2021: 9:59am On Jan 19
33 elderly people died in Norway within days of receiving their first dose of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine with the country's health officials saying there is no evidence of a 'direct link' between the jab and their deaths.

Common reactions to the vaccine, including fever and nausea, "may have contributed to a fatal outcome in some frail patients," said Sigurd Hortemo of the Norwegian Medicines Agency.

All 13 were nursing home patients and at least 80 years old.

Reactions to the vaccine, including fever and nausea, "may have contributed to a fatal outcome in some frail patients," New York Post quoted Sigurd Hortemo, chief physician at the Norwegian Medicines Agency, as saying in a statement on Friday.

While officials aren't expressing serious concern, they are adjusting their guidance on who should receive the vaccine.

More than 30,000 people in Norway have received the first shot of the Pfizer or Moderna coronavirus vaccine since late last month.
Agency's medical director Steinar Madsen has stated that the "agency is not alarmed by this."

"It is quite clear that these vaccines have very little risk, with a small exception for the frailest patients. Doctors must now carefully consider who should be vaccinated. Those who are very frail and at the very end of life can be vaccinated after an individual assessment," he said.
"Regarding the cause of death there was no analysis," she also said.

"It is important to remember that on average about 45 people die every day at nursing homes in Norway, so it's not given that this represents any excess mortality or that they are related to the vaccines," she said.

The Presidential Task Force (PFT) on COVID-19 has warned Nigerians against a second lockdown in Nigeria.

“We are in a difficult situation in which a balance must continue to be struck between lives and livelihood.

“We are considering all options while hoping that broad cooperation will be received. We must do everything possible to avoid a a second lockdown in Nigeria.”

On resumption of schools, Mustapha said;

“?While we note that several States have proceeded with the resumption of schools, the PTF recommends strongly that very strict adherence to Non-Pharmaceutical Interventions should be enforced by the States to avoid the escalation of cases. The PTF will continue to dialogue with the Governors and the Federal Ministry of Education to closely monitor the situation.

Education / Nigeria Medical Association Expresses Concerns Over The Reopening Of Schools by Blogger2021: 9:00am On Jan 19
The Nigeria Medical Association has expressed concerns over the reopening of schools across the country.

Schools in many states across the Federation reopened for academic activities on Monday, January 18. This comes even as Nigeria battles the second wave of the COVID19 pandemic.

The President of the medical association, Prof. Innocent Ujah, in a Television interview, expressed concerns over the reopening of schools. According to Ujah, decisions made in Nigeria are most times sentimal and not based on the advice of experts. He averred that Nigeria doesn’t have the statistics to know the schools that have put in place adequate measures to observe the COVID19 protocols.

“What we have been saying is that this Coronavirus pandemic is totally unprepared for and that has been since it started. But one year after, what lessons have we learnt? We know that students should go to school, and we know that they should maintain the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) protocol, but what have we done in schools?

Whether it is a public or private school, injury to one is an injury to all. The truth is that we have no statistics as far as I know of the number of schools that are ready, whether public or private and what they should put in place. I think that we are very sentimental as a nation. Let us follow the advice of experts.

Crime / British-ghanaian Rapper, Solo 45,who Raped Four Women 21 Times Has Jail Sentence by Blogger2021: 9:17am On Jan 16
Agrime artist who held four women against their will and repeatedly raped them has had his sentence increased by the Court of Appeal.

Andy Anokye, 33, who performed under the stage name Solo 45, was found guilty at Bristol Crown Court of 30 charges relating to a two-year period.

These were 21 rapes, five counts of false imprisonment, two counts of assault by penetration and two of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Anokye was convicted of 30 charges at Bristol crown court last year and handed a 29-year extended sentence, made up of a 24-year jail term and an extended licence period of five years.

But after a hearing on Friday three senior judges concluded the sentence was “unduly lenient” and increased it to 35 years – with a 30-year jail term and five years extended licence.

Lady Justice Macur, sitting with two other judges, said the original sentence did not reflect the fact that Anokye had committed multiple offences of rape against four separate victims. The court refused an attempt by Anokye to appeal against the length of his original sentence.

His sentence was referred to the court by the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) under the unduly lenient sentencing scheme.

Speaking after the ruling, the solicitor general, Michael Ellis QC, said: “Anokye’s crimes were truly shocking. The court of appeal’s decision to increase his sentence recognises the severity of the abuse he inflicted upon his victims and the danger he poses to the public.”

The court rejected an argument by lawyers representing the Solicitor General that Anokye should have been given a life sentence.

The judge also refused a bid by Anokye to appeal against the length of his original sentence.

The musician, who was part of the grime collective Boy Better Know, derived sexual pleasure from torturing the women by waterboarding, interrogating, assaulting and raping them, the court heard.

The judge also refused a bid by Anokye to appeal against the length of his original sentence.

The musician, who was part of the grime collective Boy Better Know, derived sexual pleasure from torturing the women by waterboarding, interrogating, assaulting and raping them, the court heard.

He claimed the acts were part of consensual role play, or a game he played called “Catch me, Rape me” and said he told women that he would “terrorise” them.

Police began investigating Anokye, who is from London but had a harbourside apartment in Bristol, in 2017 after a woman complained that she had been raped by him.

After his arrest, officers discovered harrowing footage filmed by Anokye on his mobile phone that revealed he had abused multiple women.

Judge William Hart, passing sentence in July, said Anokye had “become addicted” to the “perverted pleasure” he took from abusing the women in the case.

The judge added: “You have a background that includes gang associations and criminal violence.

Foreign Affairs / North Korea Unveils World's Most Powerful Submarine-launched Missile by Blogger2021: 10:35am On Jan 15
North Korea held a military parade in Pyongyang and unveiled a new submarine-launched ballistic missile it called the “world’s most powerful weapon,” state media reported, days ahead of the inauguration of U.S. President-elect Joe Biden.

The parade was held Thursday night in Kim Il Sung Square to commemorate the closing of the weeklong Eighth Congress of the ruling Workers’ Party, state-run Korean Central News Agency reported.

During the congress, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un called the United States the “principal enemy” and called on his reclusive state to bolster its military and nuclear capabilities.

Kim Jong Un viewed the parade, which featured columns of marching infantrymen, tanks and “rockets possessed of powerful striking capability for thoroughly annihilating enemies in a preemptive way outside the territory,” KCNA wrote. Fireworks and fighter-jet flyovers were also part of the spectacle.

New weapons unveiled included an SLBM, labeled the Pukguksong-5 in photos of the parade released by state media.
“The world’s most powerful weapon, submarine-launch ballistic missile, entered the square one after another, powerfully demonstrating the might of the revolutionary armed forces,” KCNA wrote.

Crime / Two Men Charged In Death Of Camarillo Man by Blogger2021: 1:15pm On Jan 14
VENTURA, Calif. - Two men who were arrested as part of a homicide investigation in Camarillo have now been charged.

The Ventura County District Attorney's Office announced Wednesday that Anthony Michael Garcia, 33, has been charged with the murder of Jorge Alfaro. Alfaro was found dead on the evening of Jan. 7 at a Camarillo motorhome park.

Camarillo police responded to the site of the shooting and found the 34-year-old Alfaro dead from a single gunshot wound. The investigation led to Garcia being identified as the suspect in the shooting.

Another man, 40-year-old Louis Vincent Reyes, is alleged to have aided Garcia after the shooting. Investigators say Reyes drove Garcia to Bakersfield after the shooting.

A search warrant was issued at a home in Bakersfield the following day. Both men were arrested at that residence and returned to Ventura County.

The men appeared in court on Ventura County to face charges in Alfaro's death.

Garcia has been charged with one count of murder with a special allegation that he used a firearm during the crime. The complain also alleges that Garcia was out of custody on bail for another felony offense when the murder occurred.

Garcia is currently in custody at the Ventura County Jail with bail set at $1.5 million.

Reyes has been charged with being an accessory after the fact for his role in assisting Garcia. He's being held at the Ventura County Jail on a $50,000 bail.

Both men pleaded not guilty to the charges. They are due back in court on Jan. 22.

Foreign Affairs / Trump Has Told Staff Not To Pay Rudy Giuliani by Blogger2021: 12:54pm On Jan 14
Irritated over a second impeachment, President Trump has told people to stop paying Rudy Giuliani’s legal fees, a person familiar with the matter tells CNN, though aides were not clear if the President was serious about his instructions.

Trump has been blaming his longtime attorney and many others for the predicament he now finds himself in, though he has not personally accepted any responsibility in public or in private, people familiar with his reaction told CNN. Giuliani is still expected to play a role in Trump’s impeachment defense but has been left out of most conversations thus far.

Another source of Trump’s ire is Rep. Kevin McCarthy, who incensed Trump further today by saying he bears responsibility for last week’s riot. The President had already been upset with McCarthy after the left the option of censuring Trump on the table in a letter to colleagues earlier this week.

The details about Giuliani’s legal fees were first reported by the Washington Post.

Foreign Affairs / 5 Key Takeaways From The House Impeachment Vote by Blogger2021: 12:40pm On Jan 14
The House voted today to impeach President Trump for a second time in a swift and bipartisan condemnation of the President's role in inciting last week's riot at the US Capitol.

About the vote: The House voted 232 to 197 to impeach Trump exactly one week after rioters forced lawmakers to flee from the very chamber in which they cast ballots in during the fourth presidential impeachment in US history. This is the first time a President has been impeached twice. See a full breakdown of the vote here.

Republicans also voted to impeach Trump: Ten Republicans, including the House's No. 3 Republican, Liz Cheney of Wyoming, joined all Democrats to impeach Trump for "incitement of insurrection." Cheney's statement was cited by impeachment supporters and detractors alike Wednesday after she charged that Trump "summoned this mob, assembled the mob and lit the flame of this attack."

Trump delivers remarks about the Capitol attack: After the House vote, Trump released a video statement calling for calm as the threat of new riots — which the President said he'd been briefed on by the Secret Service — casts a pall over Washington. Trump did not mention the historic impeachment that had occurred a few hours earlier.

Sports / Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick Declines To Accept Presidential Medal by Blogger2021: 9:09am On Jan 12
New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick announced on Monday that he has declined to accept a Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Trump, citing last week's deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol. Mr. Trump was set to give the highest civilian honor to the 68-year-old this week, a White House official had previously told CBS News.

A White House official told CBS News they were told about Belichick's decision before the Patriots released a statement. The White House declined to comment in response to it.

Belichick said in a statement obtained by CBS News that he was "flattered" to have the opportunity to receive the medal, but the storming of the Capitol, which many have accused Mr. Trump of inciting, changed his mind. ESPN was first to have reported on Belichick's statement.

"Subsequently, the tragic events of last week occurred and the decision has been made not to move forward with the award," he said. "Above all, I am an American citizen with great reverence for our nation's values, freedom and democracy."

"I know I also represent my family and the New England Patriots team," he added.

"One of the most rewarding things in my professional career took place in 2020 when, through the great leadership within our team, conversations about social justice, equality and human rights moved to the forefront and became actions. Continuing those efforts while remaining true to the people, team and country I love outweigh the benefits of any individual award."

The announcement comes after violent riots at the Capitol following a Trump rally earlier this week.

Since the riots, multiple lawmakers and government officials have called for Trump to be removed from office using the 25th Amendment.
A source previously told the Associated Press that Vice President Mike Pence does plan to attend the inauguration.

On Thursday, Trump delivered a video statement admitting his presidency would soon end — though he declined to mention Biden by name or explicitly state he had lost.

“A new administration will be inaugurated on Jan. 20,” Trump said in the video.

Biden’s transition team had no immediate comment on Trump’s announcement. But Jen Psaki, the president-elect’s incoming White House press secretary, said last month that whether Trump attended the inauguration was not top of mind for Biden.

The bill titled ‘A Bill for an Act to Regulate the Cultivation, Possession, Availability and Trade of Cannabis for Medical and Research Use, and Related Purposes’ and proposed in the Cannabis Control Bill 2020, is sponsored by Miriam Onuoha and awaiting second reading.

The bill which sets conditions for the cultivation, buying, selling and consumption of the drug, allows hospitals and doctors to prescribe doses of cannabis for treatment of patients, while pharmacies and stores will be allowed to sell the drug.

Politics / It Is Better To Lose Power Than Lose Peace - Goodluck Jonathan Reacts To Insurre by Blogger2021: 3:33pm On Jan 07
Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan who conceded to President Buhari has reacted to the chaos incited by Pro-Trump supporters at the United States Capitol yesterday January 6

Jonathan in a statement he released, said it is better to lose power at the cost of gaining peace, than to gain power at the price of losing the peace.

He further said it is never too late to reject the venom and inject the serum of peace. The statement read;

“I have repeatedly said nobody’s political ambition is worth the blood of any citizen, in any part of the world. Absolutely nobody.

“Again, I reiterate that it is better to lose power at the cost of gaining peace, than to gain power at the price of losing the peace.

“As a leader, one must not just look unto one’s own interest, but the interest and the good of society.

“It is never too late to reject the venom and inject the serum of peace. It is necessary to state that the highest purpose of leadership is to bring people together, even those that do not share in your philosophy.

“And you do not need an office to do that. All you need to achieve that height of leadership is conscience. Let us be men of conscience at this hour.”

Foreign Affairs / Mob Attack, Incited By Trump, Delays Election Certification by Blogger2021: 3:12pm On Jan 07
Vice President Mike Pence made Joe Biden’s victory official early Thursday despite mayhem at the Capitol that delayed proceedings. President Trump there would be an “orderly transition.”

Congress confirmed President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s victory early Thursday morning, hours after a mob of loyalists urged on by President Trump stormed and occupied the Capitol, disrupting the final electoral count in a shocking display of violence that shook the core of American democracy.

President Trump, who spent months stoking the anger of his supporters with false claims that the election was stolen and refused to condemn the violent protesters on Wednesday, said early Thursday that he would respect the results of the election.

“Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th,” he said in a statement.

Mr. Trump’s comments came moments after Mr. Biden’s victory was certified shortly before 4 a.m. by a joint session of Congress presided over by Vice President Mike Pence.

There was no parallel in modern American history, with insurgents acting in the president’s name vandalizing Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office, smashing windows, looting art and briefly taking control of the Senate chamber, where they took turns posing for photographs with fists up on the dais where Mr. Pence had just been presiding.

By the time the Senate reconvened late on Wednesday evening, hours after lawmakers had been evacuated from a Capitol overrun by rebels carrying pro-Trump paraphernalia, one of the nation’s most polarizing moments had yielded an unexpected window of solidarity. Republicans and Democrats locked arms to denounce the violence and express their determination to carry out what they called a constitutionally sacrosanct function.

“To those who wreaked havoc in our Capitol today, you did not win,” Mr. Pence said in a sharp break from Mr. Trump, who had praised the mob. “Violence never wins. Freedom wins. And this is still the people’s house.”

Foreign Affairs / Barack Obama Accuses Donald Trump Of Inciting Violence At The U.S Capitol Buildi by Blogger2021: 10:09am On Jan 07
Former US president Barack Obama has accused Donald Trump of inciting his supporters who stormed the US Capitol - describing it as a "moment of shame".

In a statement on Twitter, the Democrat said: "History will rightly remember today's violence at the Capitol, incited by a sitting president who has continued to baselessly lie about the outcome of a lawful election, as a moment of great dishonor and shame for our nation.

"For two months now, a political party and its accompanying media ecosystem has too often been unwilling to tell their followers the truth - that this was not a particularly close election and that president-elect Biden will be inaugurated on January 20.

"Their fantasy narrative has spiralled further and further from reality, and it builds upon years of sown resentments.

"Now we're seeing the consequences, whipped up into a violent crescendo."

Former Republican president George W Bush also condemned the actions of Mr Trump and his supporters, branding the unrest "mayhem" and the acts of a "banana republic".

President Bush, who led the US from 2001 to 2009, did not mention the current commander-in-chief by name in his statement.

"This is how election results are disputed in a banana republic - not our democratic republic," he said.

"I am appalled by the reckless behaviour of some political leaders since the election and by the lack of respect shown today for our institutions, our traditions, and our law enforcement.

"The violent assault on the Capitol - and disruption of a Constitutionally-mandated meeting of Congress - was undertaken by people whose passions have been inflamed by falsehoods and false hopes.

"Insurrection could do grave damage to our nation and reputation."

People who have worked inside the Trump administration were also excoriating of the man currently trying to cling on to power

Former chief of staff Mick Mulvaney said that the president's messages on Twitter were insufficient.

He said: "The President's tweet is not enough. He can stop this now and needs to do exactly that. Tell these folks to go home."

Celebrities / Bobby Shmurda Set For Release From Prison After Serving More Than Six Years by Blogger2021: 9:43am On Jan 07
Brooklyn rapper Bobby Shmurda popularly known as Ackquille Pollard could be leaving prison next month, after serving more than 6 years in jail.

Police officials have announced that Bobby Shmurda could be leaving prison next month, after being sent to jail for conspiracy and weapons possession at the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora in upstate New York.

Shmurda was up for parole in September but was denied as a result of disciplinary actions for his behavior while in prison.

He is now eligible for release on Feb. 23. and will serve the rest of his sentence on parole through Dec. 11, the New York Police department has announced.

But the New York State Department of Corrections has updated his conditional release date to February 23, 2021, which is 10 month earlier than expected, if he can stay out of trouble, according to The New York Times.

Shmurda was denied parole in September due to multiple disciplinary violations taken against him while incarcerated at New York's Clinton Correctional Facility that allegedly included fighting and drug possession.

But after a recent review by the Department of Corrections, Shmurda's credit for good institutional behavior was restored and could now serve out the last 10 months of the sentence on parole, barring any further incidents.

Law enforcement sources told TMZ the decision was made by the Time Allowance Committee, which consists of prison staff, but not the parole board.

On good behavior: Shmurda (born Ackquille Pollard), who was denied parole in September due to multiple disciplinary violations, had his good institutional behavior restored after a recent review by the Department of Corrections

The Brooklyn-based rapper burst out onto the hip-hop scene with his hit single called Hot Boy in the edited version, which subsequently went as high as number six on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2014.

Nigerians have taken to social media as Federal Government increased the electricity tariff payable by power consumers across the country, for the second time in 3 months.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission announced on Tuesday January 5, it had  approved the price hike for all (low and high energy) consumer classes, effective immediately.

Nigerians are currently lamenting on social media, saying the hike comes just two months after the government increased the electricity price in November 2020, coupled with the covid-19 disease in the country, insecurity situation in the country and high poverty rate in the country.

Nigerians reacted to the issue said they would take advantage of solar power to reduce the amount they spend on electricity.

Education / Zulum Orders Quality Assessment Of Private Schools In Borno State by Blogger2021: 3:32pm On Jan 05
Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has directed officials to pay visits and assess the quality of all private primary and secondary schools in Borno State with a view to identifying quack schools that exploit parents and guardians without the capacity to impact knowledge on students.

Zulum gave that directive in response to the recommendation of a keynote speaker, Alhaji Mohammed Adam, at the commissioning of Ansar Academy on Monday in Maiduguri. Adam had called government’s attention to the existence of quack private schools operating in the state.

“I have keenly listened to the keynote address by my brother, Mohammed Adam, and I was attracted to some issues he raised, one of which is a reminder that our responsibility to monitor the quality of private schools not just public schools. In that regard, I have directed secretary to the state government to notify the State Universal Basic Education Board Chairman, Dr Shettima Kullima to deploy officials to examine the capacity of all private schools. The Board is given six months within which their officials will visit all schools to examine physical infrastructures, quality and availability of teachers, and other relevant records. The board will make recommendations to the government of Borno State. We will do our best to ensure improvement of standards but where necessary, quack schools that are beyond upgrade shall be closed. While we are making modest efforts in uplifting the standard of education in our public schools, we shall also be very mindful of the operations of private schools in the state. It is our responsibility to ensure the quality of education in the state” Zulum said.

Sports / ‘I Don’t Think He’s As Good As People Crack Him Up To Be’ Tyson Fury by Blogger2021: 2:14pm On Jan 04
Tyson Fury says Anthony Joshua's chilling knockout threat is just "a lie" and believes his British rival is not confident about winning their world title fight.

WBC champion Fury is set to face Joshua, who holds the WBA, IBF and WBO titles, with talks ongoing to stage a massive showdown to decide the world's No 1 heavyweight.

Joshua produced a dramatic knockout win over Kubrat Pulev in December and warned he wants to take Fury's "head off his shoulders" when they finally share the ring.

But Fury told Fox Miami: "This fight has been brewing for a long time. They have been avoiding me for a long time and now it's finally got to happen. They either run away from the fight and announce it publicly, or take the fight. Either way it's a lose-lose situation for him.

"It's a nice quote. It doesn't mean anything. It's sticks and stones. People say a lot of stuff and they don't back it up, so we'll see. I've never seen him take anybody's head off anybody's shoulders in all of his 22 fights. Probably a lie. Another lie.

Tommy Smith Liverpool's legendary manager Billy Shankly was reportedly ‘in awe’ of the track when he heard it on a pre-season coach trip the summer it had been recorded.

Shankly loved the hit so much he reportedly told Marsden in 1964: “Gerry my son, I have given you a football team and you have given us a song.”

A year later Shankly picked it as his final track on Desert Island Discs ahead of the 1965 FA Cup final.
