@Optimusprime21 and @Tlontin

I checked the CIC portal today for my fam and saw application updated , that usually happens very shortly before the counterfoil is issued so I think we should be getting the counterfoil in the next day max and passports back by end of week

Technically yes you can ! You are allowed to apply for both because of something called dual intent . Officers are supposed to assess both cases independently BUT tbh I feel it might be harder to prove ties and there is a strong chance study permit app will be refused . My advice will be to try EE straight away if you qualify atm, that way if you choose to go to school in canada you won’t pay international fees

You can do all of the above in Canada.

What you need to do is extend your passport at the Nigerian Embassy in Ottawa before it expires, you can get it the same day .. probably less stressful compared to Nigeria. Thereafter you would use your proof of Enrolment in school to extend your study permit and visa if you wish. Ensure you do all of this before your study permit expires.

So a good timeline would be to travel to Ottawa either during Christmas break or immediately you’re done Winter semester in May to extend the Nigerian passport. Thereafter extend your study permit with proof of your enrolment from school. Ensure you don’t leave the process till late.

Also your visa is only essential for travel, so it could expire during your stay in Canada without worrying about extension, but your permit cannot expire / you should make sure it doesn’t expire while you’re still studying in Canada. If you plan on leaving Canada at any point during your study you can extend the visa before hand.

Only exception is US.

If youre travelling ONLY to the US and back to canada you don't need a valid TRV.

According to statistic, Canada is one of the best places for living. Actually, I haven't been there yet but hope to visit at least. Who can recommend good places to stay and is it possible to buy cheap flights?

Depends on what your budget is?
From Nigeria , you’re gonna spend at least (during off peak) 1K CAD maybe more on flights . You can always check travel sites like expedia or check the airline pages directly . Stay incognito or clear your cache each visit to ensure you’re getting the best deals.

What you’re looking to do ? Visit ? Live ?
Visit - If you want a city vibe , toronto , montreal , vancouver , ottawa are your best options to go visit . These places are also most expensive in this order Toronto > Vancouver > Ottawa > Montreal .
If you’re more into the outdoors and nature , Alberta is really nice and is cheaper than above places

Live - Depends on factors like family size , career etc . A single young guy / girl looking to work I’ll always recommend a big city , more opportunity though COL is higher . If you have a family semi big city with proximity to a big city is always good

Others can add to this

hello guys..i've been trying to track the status of the passport my mum submitted to the VAC with the tracking id that she was given but i dont seem to be making any headway..can you please help? am i expected to type the entire thing before the CALAPPT or just the CALAPPT then the number...i am totally confused here cos it keeps saying record not found on their website..she submitted her passport on monday 27/april/2019 cc @qudkom

Don’t panic , facing the same thing with a family. ember ! The person submitted around same time as you as well ! You can always “track” by checking her CIC account to see if a counterfoil(visa) has been attached . You’ll see the validity , date of issue and all that shiz... give it two three days from after counterfoil is issued and you’ll have the passport back at VFS.

Could you let us know when she gets the passport so we can have some timeline of turn around time following passport submission .. will do same

Long Post Alert! Please excuse any grammatical errors.

I promised that I was going to tell you guys my story but decided to wait until I got into Canada! Because the way bad belle is set up ehn.. my testimony had to have been complete before I posted my story. Before I start, I must say mine is a story of grace and never giving up and knowing God almighty has my back and trusting in my faith. I have to say this because God is the only person that made this happen for me.

Anyways, from my last post you will see that I have what many call a great profile. I’ve been travelling abroad since I was inside my mother’s womb and am currently on my 6th or 7th passport. I have previous visas from major first world countries - The UK, US, Schegen territories and even went to boarding school in Canada. I have two degrees both of which were gotten from the UK. I’ve been to plenty countries including the UAE, South Africa, Jamaica, The Bahamas, Ukraine, Turkey, France, The Netherlands, Italy etc. I have my own business that’s doing okay (okay because na buhari economy we dey) and I have very capable sponsors as parents! My mum’s passport is a world map and my Father’s bank statements can carry me anywhere. So imagine my surprise that in February 2019 when I applied to visit Canada alongside my mum, I was denied based on financial assets and family ties in and out of Canada while my mum’s visa was granted. I was shocked to my bone marrow but my mum contacted someone who works at the Canadian high commission Lagos and he then explained that the mistake I made was use my father as my sponsor (apparently Canada frowns upon adults being sponsored by other adults unless it’s your spouse.. take note of this guys). I decided to immediately reapply and this time I over documented (check previous post for all documents I submitted). I was pretty confident at this point that I was going to get the VISA so imagine my shock once again when I was denied based on the same financial assets and family ties in and out of Canada. This time I was beyond angry! What more did these people want? I kept looking back at my life and started wondering when I started getting visa denials? Me? Then I started blaming my mother for travelling to and from the US a few months before giving birth to me because this wahala made no sense to me! How? The VO said they weren’t confident I wouldn’t return and I’m like HOW WONT I RETURN? I returned after school, I have never overstayed a VISA ever in my life, I’m a tax paying Nigerian for God’s sake! Anyways. I let it go cause I thought maybe this...

Congrats and welcome to Toronto! Love this story , sometimes you gotta just trust God and be bold!

good afternoon house, please I have applied online but I didn't attach my own bank statement because I am using my husband's own (bank statement) because he's my sponsor. please is there need to still attach my own bank statement?? @ Hotstepper and Gurus in the house, please reply urgently thanks Dearly

So long as it's clearly stated that he will be sponsoring you and his account is buoyant enough its not a problem

Even if you have the privilege to invite close family members, going as far to invite multitude isn't a very wise idea. As a student, you don't have that financial sufficiency to cater for their stay and other necessities. If this application is filed, its likely not going to scale through, just save time and money.

Good luck!

I disagree with this. If he's not claiming to be sponsoring them financially , his financial sufficiency is not a factor.

What will determine the success or failure of the app is the situation of his sibling. if the sibling has good travel history , well paying job and a good SOA they should have no issues.

Hello my people
Please what reason can I use to invite my brother and his family of 4 to Canada to visit me, I'm in my 2nd year?
Please respond if you know good reason for invitation and what could I use as social ties for him?

Thank you

Hey mate , there is nothing wrong with inviting your brother and his family for a visit. You are not the one sponsoring them financially so I dont see why people are saying you gotta be done school.

I know friends who have invited their siblings for a visit , its no biggie provided the person youre inviting is self sufficient.

My advice is they package it as visit + tourism , you write them a letter saying youre inviting them to visit you . And they also write a letter of intent saying theyll be visiting you and also visiting tourist attractions and name a few.

They hide over there too to catch you
Interesting

Yes they've always done that. They used to use undercover cars mostly but I guess they realized that the undercover cars are not so undercover and people notice them. They are usually fancy looking Ford / Dodge blacked out so they decided to switch up their approach and its been working for them.

If you are ever driving on highway sometimes they're hiding by the side of the road or under a bridge with their speed guns on to catch people speeding. By time you see them its already too late

Time to take my seat on this thread , though i’m active on the sister thread since I’m already in canada (came as a student what feels like ages ago)

Let’s not be stressed by the high score , as far as I could tell this is one of the longest if not the longest break in between draws since EE began , i'm certain the scores will come down again.

I know this thread is predominantly FSW but my fellow CEC folks where you at ? wink

We will all get our hearts desires !

Not sure if this has already been posted but Authorities are seriously cracking down on distracted driving. Things like eating while driving , using your phone(even for navigation) can land you a hefty fine.

Actually they have started employing this method of hiding in yellow school buses so they can easily spot unsuspecting violators (heard of someone who fell victim this week) . Apparently there is a 69% increase in tickets since they started employing this method so its very effective. The penalty in ontario is $490 and 3 demerit points so lets all be careful so POF is not spent on fines grin

Bro. These guys don't really care about some of these documents. I will appreciate if these guys sharing testimonies let us know what valid visas they currently have on their passports. So if I that I have only visited South Africa and Dubai submit same set of documents with someone with a valid U.S or U.K visa, he might be approved while I might be denied.

Don’t forget there’s CAN+

If you visited canada or US and left in the last 10years (or maybe 5 I forget now) , officers are meant to process your passport quickly and also apply little scrutiny . In fact you don’t have to show any financial statements
