A Greek man missed the Ethiopian Airlines flight that crashed on Sunday shortly after takeoff from Addis Ababa airport, killing all 157 people on board, Greek media reported.

Antonis Mavropoulos, president of the International Solid Waste Association, a non-profit organization, was supposed to board the plane bound for Nairobi, Kenya, which crashed about 45 km southeast of the Ethiopian capital, he told Greek television channel Alpha.



Mavropoulos reached the gate only two minutes after it was closed. He recalled feeling mad watching behind the glass wall other passengers boarding the aircraft.

Mavropoulos was about to board another plane when airport staff told him that the aircraft he missed had gone missing. He was shocked when he was later informed about the tragedy.


"This is one of those moments which are changing one's perspective of life... You realize that our lives are hanging from threads... I just want to send many kisses to my wife, my mother and my daughter," he told Alpha during a telephone conversation.

The senior pastor at the Central Assemblies of God Church at Tema Community 4 was Sunday stabbed to death during church service.

Rev. Dr. David Nabegmado was attacked while preparing to leave his inner office to the main church auditorium to preach as Service was ongoing.

Rev. Dr. Nabegmado, who was allegedly attacked by his nephew in his office was rushed to a nearby medical facility for treatment and died hours later.

Passersby and some church members mobilised to arrest the attacker, whose name is yet to be disclosed. He is currently in police custody.

A member of the church told Starrfmonline.com members are “sad and tensed” but remain prayerful.

Three people have died and nine others were injured during a stampede at Prophet Shepherd Bushiri's Enlightened Christian Gathering Church in Pretoria on Friday night, Tshwane West police confirmed.

Spokesperson for the Tshwane West Cluster police, Captain Augustinah Selepe, said in a statement that the police only heard about the stampede on Saturday afternoon, and officers were immediately dispatched to the scene.

The church is situated at the Tshwane Events Centre in Pretoria.

According to Selepe, the police believe that a thunderstorm prompted the congregation to push each other around during a church service, leading to the stampede. The service began at around 20:00 on Friday night.

On Saturday morning Bushiri's attorney, Terrance Baloyi of Baloyi Ntsako Attorneys, told News24 that the stampede occurred when people tried to take shelter inside the church during a thunderstorm.

People panicked

Baloyi said some people panicked and he confirmed that three people were knocked unconscious.

"We regret the incident as a church because it happened within our premises," Baloyi said at the time.

However, according to the police, the exact cause of the incident is still unconfirmed. Police have also requested that anyone with information about a missing person, who attended the church service, please contact the Pretoria West police station.

SAPS Tshwane West Cluster Commander Major General DT Mthombeni also urged the public to be cautious during the New Year's Day celebrations this week.

The police have asked the public to assist in creating a safe environment this week by cooperating with them, and warned that drunk and reckless driving will not be tolerated.

"We offer our most [sincere] condolence[s] to the families who lost their loved ones during the stampede, and speedy recovery to those injured," said Mthombeni.

Also, the family of Late Alex Badeh has refused to accept the alleged killers of their son. They said those paraded are not the real killers.

Neither Etisalat nor Key stone bank are yet to respond to the allegations, publishing the names of the shareholders will clear the allegations.

Ghanaian radio and TV presenter, Abeiku Aggrey Santana has stressed the need to encourage and promote sex as a tourism booster.

According to Santana who also happens to be the Chief Executive Officer of Kaya Tours, most tourists come to Ghana not only for the tourist sites, rich culture and history but to also experience our men and women.

“Sex tourism is not a promotion of promiscuity, what we are saying is, let’s have interracial marriage or relationships. When foreigners come let them like you as a man or woman and when that happens they will tend to continue the relationship with you,” he said

Explaining further, he said, even though Ghana has not legalized sex trade, there are people doing it and therefore, it is about time the youth were educated to take advantage of the looming opportunities in sex tourism adding that there are countries like Kenya, Gambia, Senegal who have educated their citizens to make themselves approachable and appealing to foreigners.

“There are a lot of foreigners who come here, they like us but they can’t say it and we also like them but we also do not tell them, our problem is with the approach,” he added.

Reacting to issues on exploitation, the Kaya Tours CEO said, those who have been exploited were only because they lacked requisite education.

“People who have been exploited are those who have not been educated, if you are educated and you know what is at stake for you, you will not allow yourself to be exploited because you have an agenda and aim,” he said.

The TV presenter said this conviction comes on the back of his experience as a tourism operator

“Become friends with them and be strategic enough not to give in sex at the beginning of the relationship,” he noted.
