An investigative journalist, PIDOMNIGERIA has asserted that the Nigerian army appeared to have had another motive than the peacemaking mission intended.
On Friday, a Lieutenant Colonel, two Majors, one Captain and 12 soldiers were reportedly killed in two warring communities in Delta State.

The Director, Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, confirmed the incident.

The soldiers were on a rescue mission to Okuama community to free a hostage, one Mr. Anthony Aboh, allegedly abducted over the lingering land dispute between Okuama and Okoloba communities when they were ambushed and killed.

Gusau said: “The troops of 181 Amphibious Batallion, Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State, while on a peace mission to Okuoma community in Bomadi LGA of Delta State, were surrounded by some community youths and killed on Thursday, 14 March 2024.

“The unfortunate incident occurred when the troops responded to a distress call after the communal crisis between the Okuama and Okoloba communities both in Delta State.

“The reinforcement team led by the Commanding Officer was also attacked, leading to the death of the Commanding Officer, two Majors, one Captain and 12 Soldiers.

However, in a discovery, Pidomnigeria claims the Nigerian Army forcefully wanted to arrest three high chiefs and did not necessarily intend for peacemaking.

Sharing his revelation on X, he shared some visuals of alleged victims and wrote,


“Nobody is justifying the death of our able bodied soldiers, but why not tell Nigerians the truth, rather than use the biased western media to drive home propaganda and wicked narrative, in order to justify your actions.

The Nigerian Army claimed that they went to Okuama community for peacekeeping mission.
But you wanted to forcefully arrest 3 high chiefs, the community said nope and stood their grounds. What did you do next. Your men opened fire on innocent villagers, injuring well over 500 of them, and killing many. Both old, fragile, women and children were amongst the casualties. But nobody is telling their story, or listening to their plight. After attacking first, you all entered your boats and left.

“As you were leaving, you all were ambushed by 9 speedboats filled with militants. They were the ones who killed our gallant soldiers. Not innocent old men and women who can not operate hunters gun. People who are already injured, bruised and morning their loved ones after your 14th march unprovoked attack on them.”

LAGOS – Efforts by the Isoko ethnic nation in Delta State to rev up businesses, make way for the establishment of industries, provide employment and arrest youth restiveness have suffered setback as a result of refusal of some oil companies operating in the area to disclose the amount due the Niger Delta community.

According to a press statement made available to Daily Independent, the group regretted that Heritage, Oando/Agip, NEPL, oil majors are threatening Isoko alternative energy quest with non-disclosure of 3% PIA funds.

It stressed that its quest by oil-rich to channel their share of funds accruing from the 3% Petroleum Industry Act (PIA 2021) and invest it in gas-powered alternative energy is being threatened by the oil corporations in the two Isoko Local Government Areas – North and South LGAs.

The statement read, “This is as enquiries made to the companies by Isoko nation’s apex social cultural body, Isoko Development Union (IDU), continue to hit the brick wall by the refusal of the oil companies to disclose how much is due to Isoko nation since PIA law came into effect.

“IDU is worried that the oil companies’ continued refusal will scuttle the body’s intention to provide alternation power to Isoko nation to rev up businesses and make way for the establishment of industries in Isoko to provide employment and arrest youth restiveness.

“Worried by the perennial darkness that envelops year-in year-out, as a result of the inability of the DISCOs to provide power, IDU decided to explore alternative provision of power to its citizens by converting the abundant gas being flared by these oil companies to electricity. IDU’s quest for alternative energy provision is fueled by the Federal Government’s utter neglect of Isoko people as a major oil-producing ethnic nation that has no single government’s presence in terms of facilities or political patronage in terms of appointment of Isoko sons or daughters into any federal organ or position, whether as minister, diplomat or head of MDA. Uzere, a community in Isoko, is the second community where oil was discovered shortly after Oloibiri in Bayelsa State in commercial quantities. Whereas Oloibiri’s oil wells have since dried up, the wells in Uzere are still waxing strong as major oil and gas hubs that supply huge quantities of hydrocarbon that continue to fuel the national economy.

“Yet Uzere and the entire Isoko are enveloped in darkness and without any federal government’s presence. This is also the case in other Isoko communities that are hosts to oil facilities, from Olomoro, Oleh, Irri to Ozoro, Ovruode, among others.
To achieve its goal of providing alternative energy for Isoko, IDU in July 2023 set up a 10-man Committee on Alternative Energy Supply to Isoko Nation, chaired by Engr. Onwo Nelson, with Dr. Edafe Asedegbega as secretary.


“Other members of the committee include co-chair Rev. (Dr.) Godspower E. Agbuduta, Engr. Oba Obi, Dr. Vincent Edewhor, Mr. Igelige Morrison, Chief Adonis Ubuwere, Chief Dan Odhomo, Dr. Michael Oke and Comrade Morister Idibra. The committee recently submitted its report in the form of a communique to IDU.

“Harmonising all our projects in the year 2024 into electricity will deliver the needed result, but without electricity we cannot develop as an ethnic nation,” the committee’s communique reads in part, “The PIA 2021, signed into law, which took effect since June 2022, grants 3% of OPEX to the host communities. The content of the PIA says the 3% must be spent on the host communities after a ‘Need Assessment’ is conducted.
The manager of the 3% is “Host Communities Trust Fund”. We don’t need anyone to tell us what our number one ‘Need’ is other than regular electricity supply. Hence, we have written to the operators in Isoko nation namely: Heritage, Oando/Agip, First Hydrocarbon, NEPL (formerly NPDC) and NUPRC (formerly DPR) for them to reveal how much they’re owing Isoko as guaranteed by PIA, but until now (January 2024) we have not gotten any reply.
We are not begging the oilfield operators for anything. It is Isoko money, as guaranteed by law but the reason they have failed to disclose the two-year backlog of the 3% due Isoko, we don’t know.

According to PIA, the money is not to be shared or given to any individual. Rather, a community must mention a project or projects which the money must be used for. Remember, Isoko has collapsed all individual community projects for this single electricity project and being handled by IDU.”

According to the chairman of the Committee on Alternative Energy Supply to Isoko Nation Engr. Onwo Nelson, “The Federal Government stands to gain a lot from the monetization of the gas needed to power the IPP Isoko is planning to build. Gas flaring will be reduced in our communities to avert the health hazards associated with indiscriminate gas flaring currently being undertaken by these oil companies without regard to the health of Isoko people, which is a crime on its own. However, all these noble intentions are being threatened by the oil companies’ refusal to respond to letters written to them.

“The PIA is an Act of Parliament of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. They should not wait till they’re dragged to court to respect the constitution, or their operations are disrupted through agitation by communities, because PIA 2021 is a constitutional matter, and the odds favour us in our quest – to use our own money to develop our nation. What is even annoying is these oil companies only take and take and do nothing to help their host communities to live better lives. How can Isoko be in darkness when oil companies operate in our lands and destroy them and flare gas to harm our people.

“They should go and learn from Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited operating in Bonny Kingdom. NLNG gives Bonny Kingdom non-stop electricity that the people pay for. Why can’t they do so? We now want to give ourselves electricity; they should not stand on our way by refusing to give us our own money. They should not be clogs in the wheel of Isoko progress. How do they even sleep at night when they know that their host communities are in darkness while they flare gas every day to harm their hosts and the environment their hosts live in?”

Executive Assistant on External Relations and Diaspora Affairs to the Delta State Governor Dr Sunny Ofehe has said that several foreign investment have been lined up to be executed in the state to boost it’s FDI profile.

Ofehe stated this after he and a team of European investors met the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu at his private residence and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Johnson Erijo, in Asaba, the state capital over the weekend.

He said that as part of his investment initiatives, he has been able to secured a Cancer Screening hospital to be build in Delta State and financed by the Swedish Credit Bank.

According to him, both the SSG and Chief of Staff to the governor have been intimated of the development which is one of the low hanging fruits among the FDI proposals he has secured, saying that once the state government gives it nod to the proposal, the investors are ready to move in for the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding.

He disclosed that to boost the State’s Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), his office has been able to secured a modular oil refinery to be build in the State and to be funded by the Norwegian Sovereign Wealth fund.

“I have secured the construction of a solar project to be funded by Wattcrowd strategic partners. They are to invest up to $1 billion of committed capital for the development of solar projects in Nigeria”, he disclosed.
According to Ofehe, “What we have done in Delta state through my office, is reaching out to investment that would also carry their own credit therefore it doesn’t put the financial burden on the state. So what is expected from the state is an enabling environment and possibly guarantee for return on investment”.

Continuing, he disclosed that he has also secured the construction of a global standard football academy in Delta State by the Dutch based Global Football Academy (GFA) as well as a proposal for the setting up of the Nigeria version of Kleyn Trucks in the state.

While saying that he would continue to dialogue for bilateral and mutual trade relationship with the ‘MORE agenda’ and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori-led administration, Ofehe hinted that a Dutch Company with international reputation for flood management and port services expertise, was interest in collaborating with Delta State in dealing with flood challenges in the state.

Ofehe, who disclosed that he has prepared four separate documents on Delta State beyond oil and also Delta State solid mineral potential with foreign investment portfolio, maintained that part of his team, was a European security conglomerate with expertise in risk management, internal security using modernised infrastructure with a blue print on how to support the state to resolve it’s security challenge.

Following the cost of building materials, especially cement, the Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom, HRM King Obukohwo Monday Whiskey, Udurhie I, has urged President Bola Tinubu to reopen the shut Madewell Cement Factory located at Idjerhe by renewing its licence.

The journalist-turned-monarch, who made the call on Thursday while touring the facility with his chiefs, also urged Tinubu to restore the licences of all other cement producers to jumpstart an efficient economy.

“We are here for the project tour and inspection of the abandoned Madewell Portland Cement Factory here in Otorho Idjerhe.

“It is 15 years ago or let’s say 12 years ago, when this project was brought down by cabals in the cement industry.

“It had already created over 2000 direct jobs and over 10,000 indirect jobs in the Nigerian economy.

“As a king of this land, I see pain and I believe that with the coming in of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a man who is business-oriented, a man who is economically viable, he knows the importance of the cement sector to the Nigerian economy.

“If we must make the development of shelter one of the basic requirements of human existence.

“And when this place was shut down, a lot of young men, a lot of artisans who were working here lost their jobs.


“I came here to plead with Mr. President to revisit or grant the re-issue of the six licenses that were issued at regional business.

“The Cement industry is too large for one man or one company to deal in, no individual can do this.

“As we speak of the 500,000 metric tonnes that was approved for Madewell Portland cement, only 50,000 metric tonnes of this came to Nigeria.

“It was disposed of in less than four or five months there’s still over 450,000 metric tonnes in China.

“As it is, I and the good people have agreed to plead with the Federal Government to revisit that injustice that was done to our great son, Prince David Iweta, MD/CEO Madewell Cement, that was done to a South-South son, that was done to a Nigeria who is business-oriented, who believes in the right way of doing things.

“Madewell, as an industry player, is being very patriotic. Some of them went to court. They collected a huge amount of money from the Federal Government.

“But he didn’t go to court because he believed that a day like this will come. And I believe that Mr. President as a listening President will listen to this very important cry and plea.

“The reopening of this factory will help to resolve the high demand for cement.

“As we speak, no two or three, or four companies can get enough cement to meet cement consumption for Nigerians.

“So the best decision the government took then was to ensure that there is a Portland Cement factory, one in each region that is outside the major players and the licenses that were issued to them were for them to first import cement.

“They were given clearance for 500,000 metric tonnes of import. By the time you are done with that, you would have made arrangements for your production.

“And that was what Prince David the waiter and his group were doing diligently as of the time this factory was shut down.

“They only had taken delivery of 50,000 metric tons of the product and what that translates to is that 450 million metric tons were still in China.

“And if you cannot bring in what you have borrowed money to bring to the country to sell, you can’t be talking about production.

“But an individual wrote a petition telling the government of Nigeria that they have no reason to import cement and that those who were importing should be stopped so that he remained the only authority in the cement industry in Nigeria.

“I think it is wicked. I think it is wrong, I think is an option that is not viable, the government ought to know that.”

Recall that late President Umaru Yar‘ Adua had issued six companies representing the six geopolitical zones, three licences each, to bring down the prices of cement but had their licences revoked when President Goodluck Jonathan came into power after the sudden death of his boss.

Delta State Government has approved the award of contracts worth N78 billion to Julius Berger Nigeria Limited for the construction of three flyover bridges and road expansion in the Warri/Effurun megalopolis.

This was part of decisions reached at the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Tuesday in Asaba.

Briefing journalists at the end of the Exco meeting, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Engr Fred Edafiogho said approval of the contracts were aimed at solving the gridlock often experienced in the twin cities.

He said the contracts included the design and construction of flyover bridge at Enerhen junction to Marine Gate; study, design and construction of road expansion and improvement works on the section of the DSC/NPA Expressway from Effurun roundabout to DSC roundabout including construction of a 3/4 Cloverleaf interchange at the existing Effurun Flyover Bridge as well as two pedestrian bridges.

Others are design and construction of flyover bridge at PTI junction and DSC roundabout along the Effurun/Patani, East-West highway, Effurun in Uvwie Local Government Area.

Mr Edafiogho further said that the project road expansion works on the DSC/NPA Expressway will provide two lanes of restricted carriageway at the centre for through-traffic and another two lanes of service road in each travel direction bring the current capacity of the road from four lanes to eight lanes.

He said side drains would be provided along the stretch to convey stormwater to the swamp that runs beside the road and pipeline in addition to provide free flow of traffic for a distance of 4.359km with cloverleaf interchanges and U-turns allowing for unimpeded flow.

He added that the four projects have a duration of 27 months with probable completion date of December 2025.

Commissioner for Works, (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze said Governor Oborevwori’s approval of the projects was in fulfillment of his promise to give Warri/Uvwie a face lift.

He said the justification for choosing Julius Berger was due to their experience and competitive pricing in relation to the quality of works and timely delivery of projects.

Also speaking, State Commissioner for Finance, Chief Fidelis Tilije said the contract was worth N78 billion while the state government would make 25 percent advance payment of N19.5 billion with the balance paid through an ISPO for 30 months.

Also speaking during the briefing, the Commissioner for Works in charge of Rural and Riverine Roads, Mr. Charles Aniagwu said that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was deeply worried about the deplorable nature of federal roads across the state.

Mr. Aniagwu disclosed that the state Executive Council had directed the Ministries of Works (Highways and Rural Roads) to carry out remedial works on federal roads, particularly the Asaba-Benin Expressway and the Agbor-Eku Road with a view to making them more motorable for road users in the state.

He also visited the northern political leaders and Emirs several occasion to inform them about his political journey.
He stylishly avoided the South-South political leaders and traditional leaders, and also he never visited any political leader or traditional leaders in the South-East.
That is a bad political movement, if you intended to rule over the country, you should make all region your home.

Tinubu should have be a bridge builder. Rather he is isolating other region during his political and consultation movement. If he become the president, he will surely abandon those regions, and that is bad for the Nation.

Delta state turned 30 on August 27. When Chief James Onanefe Ibori became Delta State in May 1999, the state was less than 10 years old, so he helped in laying the true foundation on which the state development has rested.
Chief James Ibori constructed or completed bridges abandoned for decades by Federal agencies: Ughoton-Omadino, Aboh (Ase River), Bomadi (over River Forcados, the 600-metre long span wonder should be one of the poster projects of the Ibori administration) bridges are such major commercial and social arteries connecting Itsekiri, Ukwani and Ijaw coastal rural areas respectively to the mainland.

Following in their wake are the Olumo (to link the oil-bearing districts of Ughelli South, Ughelli North, Burutu and Udu LGAs to the Warri and Effurun economic zones) and the Trans-Warri Ode Itsekiri access road and navigational bridge (navigational, because it would not disturb marine traffic as it spans vast miles upon miles of space to Ode Itsekiri or Big Warri), this ambitious project may just have only the 30-kilometre Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos to contend with in Nigeria. Planned in three phases, the Ode Itsekiri project bore the price tag of over N30 billion.

Then there is the Ubefan-Madangho Road—a 30-mile stretch through a swampy terrain; price tag—N5.2 billion. The Okerenkoko-Pepe Ama-Kokodiagbene Road, just 20 kilometres long, owing to the swampy terrain, cost about N5 billion.

Ibori awarded to tar the the Aniocha “Inner Ring Road” for the first time in 60 years —from Ubulu-Unor, through Ubulu-Uku, Issele-Uku and then to Obompka and back to Issele-Uku in an inverted U formation between Issele-Uku and Obompka through Idumuje–Ugboko and other villages .

Ibori built a floating market for Ogheye community in Warri North LGA; with a fire station, water works, post office, bank, police post, health care centre, etc, all at a cost of N1.3 billion. Ibori also provided N1.1billion for 34 Jetty/Waiting Sheds, landing infrastructures for the operation of Ferry Boats in 34 communities in the core riverine LGAs of Warri North, Warri South, Warri South West, Brutu, Bomadi, Ndokwa East and Oshimili South, apart from the concrete jetty at Ugbege in Warri North.

As Ibori explained the philosophy behind the electrification projects during a meeting on the Niger Delta region, which former President Olusegun Obasanjo hosted at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja, “Most of the communities in the seven riverine LGAs of the State i.e. Bomadi, Brutu, Warri South, Warri South West, Warri North, Patani and Ndokwa East, are located in mangrove swamps and creeks. These communities are substantially unlinked to the national grid on account of their so-called ‘difficult terrain.’

Power supply to riverine communities, where it existed, had therefore been mainly through diesel-powered generators with attendant high operational costs that rendered the schemes unsustainable. The challenge of providing electric power in the riverine communities of the state has been so daunting that successive governments since the colonial era have been unable to tackle it. Even the Federal Government’s avowed policy of extending the national grid to the headquarters of every LGA in the country could not be implemented in the riverine areas.”

The import of what Ibori said was that neither Obasanjo nor other governors had attempted what he was already achieving in Delta State. And he was right! By the time the two terms of a total of eight years of both President Obasanjo and Ibori’s colleagues in the other five South-South geo-pollical zone’s states had ended, the swampy sections of the Niger Delta States were largely as unaffected by development as they were in 1999. The only visible change was in Delta and Bayelsa states.

“1.Tower crossing of the Forcados River with 33 KV overhead high-tension wire line from Okwuagbe Watersode to Okirika and extension of electric power supply from Okirika westward to Ayakoromo; and eastward to Ofrukama, Ezebiri, Ogodobiri, Okoloba, Okubo-Ama, Akugbene, Ogbeinama and Esama;

11. Tower Crossing of Creek with 33 KV overhead high-tension line from Ophorigbala to Gbekebor and extension of electric power to Gbekober and Obotebe;

111. Extension of 33 KV overhead line from Koko (NPA Jetty) to Adagbrasa, Ebrohimi, Obaghoro, Tebu, Gbokoda, Ajametan, Opuama, Idebagbene and Lagos Junction with Tower crossing of rivers and creeks at Ughwoton and Gnokobia junctions;

1V. Extension of 33 KV overhead high-tension line from Ekpan to Omadino and down to Okerenkoko;

V. Extension of 33 KV overhead high-tension line from Bomadi to Oboro, Okpukunu and Gbaregolor.

Involved here is the construction of some 203 kilometres of 33 KV sub-transmission lines employing galvanized steel towers and about 72 kilometres of township distribution networks using concrete poles and a total of 38 300 KVA and 33 KV/415V transformers at the mentioned communities. Income Electric Nig. Ltd won the N10 Billion project.
