Culture / Re: Olu Of Warri Not Dead, Only Indisposed - Palace by fratermathy(m): 1:31pm On Dec 22, 2020
Death rumours are not something to play with. I wonder why someone would just say the king is dead without concrete proof. That's not something to joke with and it's also not a random thing to say.

I really hope he's fine.

Any help please, I'm in the bank.

Request for an e-statement of account and then print yourself or just leave it on your phone to show IF you're asked. You may not even be asked for it. These things depend on the officer but it's better to be ready than to be sorry.

It seems we are yet to see the end of this global pandemic. If new strains come up, I hope the vaccines would be effective against them?

Is there anyone on fully funded PhD scholarship at UBC? Would like a correspondence at lugonmaeze@gmail.com. Thanks.

The best way to locate PhD students is to visit the website of the department and look through their list of PhD students. Almost all departments maintain such a list. From there, you can mail the students and ask what you want. Most of them do reply.

The name of the institution if possible, how to get the full funding, is Ielts/French required before applying and when to apply. Thank you.

I can't help you find an institution. You'd have to do that work yourself. Google "PhD in Law site:ca" and then explore your options. Personally, I know McGill University, York University, and University of Toronto are top Canadian schools for Law. You may also want to explore University of Alberta and University of British Columbia.

As for funding, almost all PhD programs are fully funded but you can mail the specific department to confirm.

Many Canadian schools do no need IELTS or any other language test from Nigerians as long as you finished from a Nigerian university.

Is there anyone that travelled recently? Please give us your traveling gist. I am traveling on Friday on Ethiopian Airlines

You're not travelling as a student so I really don't know what they'll ask of you. However, for most students, they ask for proof of enrollment, admission letter, ArriveCAN slip, and CAQ (at POE). It is a very straightforward process.

Ethiopian Airlines fly from Lagos to Addis Ababa and then you'll go to Dublin before reaching Toronto. Flight time is around 20 hours in total.

Goodluck to all TRV applicants in this new thread. I started with the previous thread from Nigeria and now I'm in Canada. May it be the same for you.

Remember that approval is not by how many things you submit or how excellent your application documents are. It's mostly a game of luck, who the VO is, "divine grace", and doing the right things. Always keep things simple if you can. Don't appear too desperate by overdoing things and don't be too laid back by not submitting the essential documents.

Before you ask questions, do a simple search on Google and add Nairaland to the end of the search query so that you can see if the question has been answered before. If you need further clarification after that, you can then ask. Remember that nobody is mandated to answer any question here. We are all partners in progress, so don't feel angry if your question goes unanswered. Just ask again and do so politely. Before I became active here, I had read almost all the pages from parts 13-16. I also advise others to do same and by the time you're done, you would know so much about the entire process and could even be an agent if you want.

That's true. However, there are experimental drugs they could give him if he so desires. As a President, he has access to everything out there that can potentially help.

"Hi guys. If you know anyone traveling to from Nigeria as a student, please inform them to contact their school and obtain a recent enrollment letter within a month's time from departure time. If not, they will be prevented from Flying even with a valid study permit....

Cases seen from Ethiopian airline...

Please share with your contacts and save inconvenience and cost of rescheduling flights ✈️"

Above is a chat my brother based in Halifax shared from a whatsapp group of Nigerians he is a part of. See my other response on this subject for what the document is. It is essentially a proof that you have registered for courses, made payments for fees due and you are a genuine student. Not sure you can get it without fulfilling one of these conditions.

My thought though because it was the same in the US but they don't ask for it at the airport or for boarding. So imagine you needed to apply for renewal of student status or something from the IRCC/DHS (could be SOWP after you land) as a current student, they would need a proof that you are truly "enrolled" as a student. Your DLI will never issue it if you are owing, or have unmet obligations at the time of your request.

These are some samples of the enrollment letter so that those who need it would be guided appropriately

Banditry is becoming worse in this country and our president is handling it as if he's dealing with juvenile delinquents. This thing is taking a new face and soon, it'll become bigger than what we are even seeing.

finally grin grin I just tracked my passport. The decision envelope for your application, tracking ID No. XXXXX has been collected from the Canada Visa Application Centre, Abuja on 2020/12/16.
When should I be expecting my passport? I did a 2-way courier with DHL.

You should get it tomorrow. It turns out your gamble worked well. You may leave on the 18th afterall. Congratulations.

As the saying goes, no two applications are the same.

I was denied Visa this morning base on home ties and financial status. I want to order for my gcms notes, but I am not sure I will re-apply, since I am going there as fully funded.

I find it disturbing whenever they deny fully funded applicants. Please don't be discouraged. What did you use as home ties? What program did you apply for? Give us your complete profile. Let us help you debug the situation as you await your GCMS notes.

Anyone used Ethiopian Airlines online check in here? How was it compared to normal check in?

I tried doing that but it doesn't work for trips to Canada. You must present yourself before checking in. It probably has to do with the verifications they do at the airport before you're allowed to fly.

Roger that sir! Help me beg VFS Lagos to release my passport. Because I no like their lies and refused to call them they have been skipping over my package. There is God oh! smiley smiley

VFS is very unprofessional. I don't know why a company that handles people's passports can't get things right. It's very appalling. You should continue disturbing them. Don't relent. It seems if you don't call them, they'll just ignore your passport. They may go for their yearly break by the end of next week so now is the time is put pressure on them.

Anyone who can go through Lagos VFS in one piece deserves an award.

I didn't do any test and no one asked for them. They didn't even check my temperature or anything. It was almost as if they didn't care about Covid-19. We only wore facemasks.

How are you coping with the timezone thing? It's 1:35am in Montreal and I'm awake. I slept using Nigeria time and I can't even force myself to sleep again.

Just to add to the items Rebecausoro listed, if you are destined to Montreal, please make sure you print your CAQ approval letter.

UPS is usually effective, or so they say. I haven't used them personally before. Those who got their passports back or know someone who got their passport back already or anyone who has previously used UPS before could help us clarify if UPS does next day delivery for places outside Lagos, Ogun, and other neighbouring states. Those in Delta, Anambra, Bayelsa, Edo, Cross River etc, how long did it take for UPS to deliver parcels to you?

I wasnt sounding rude rather you felt it was rude. I just said she shouldnt have booked a flight until her passport is back in her possession.

Antidote after death, i didnt advice her or nobody hete adviced her to book a flight so I dont get what you are saying with the phrase.

You should have been more humane in your comment. I can imagine the mental torture of planning something with certainty only for a third party company to mess everything up because of inefficiency. If not for those consent and declaration forms, VFS would have received multiple lawsuits for things like this.

One week is more than enough to send documents to anywhere in Nigeria, even if you're working with a thousand passports per day.

For those trying to reach VFS and can't get through, if you use Android, download auto redial.

I just used it. I set it to automatically dial VFS 386 times. After about the 15th time I was able to talk to an agent.
I like how we are able to confront challenges and surmount them cheesy cheesy. Since VFS's number has refused to connect, we have also devised smarter ways of reaching them. Kudos!

Congrats to all making progress and to all waiting, may you get good news soon.

@Fratermathy, how many years do Phd students usually get for their TRV? Is there a fixed number of years or it varies?

On the passport submission issue, I think Abuja VO is quite efficient. Submitted PP on 23/11 and got counterfoil yesterday. As at this morning, I have gotten the VFS mail that says PP ready for collection. I used 2 way courier, so I’d come back to drop feedback on that once I get my PP.

PhD students usually get 4 years, depending on the expiration date on your passport. Even if you get less than 4 years, you shouldn't worry. You can always renew these things from inside Canada.

Goodmorning everyone, please what time can we start calling vfs, the automated message is saying they are closed when I selected the option to talk to an agent. Na wa oh

Start calling by 9.05am. Do well to disturb them. It seems that they are also arbitrarily returning passports. You need to "induce" them via calls and emails to return your own travel document. This is Nigeria!

MAKE UNA NO GO ADVISE PERSON DO RUBBISH!

E SAY MAKE E CARRY E PASSPORT GO ACCRA!

From Lagos.... ha.... if I ca wait from June till November to get approved is na the 1 month delay VFS Lagos (that thunder will soon fire) that I can’t wait for.....

My dear... carry ur Passport to VFS Lagos and just know that in 4 weeks, the lord will be ur strength and ur BATTLE AXE!

I don drop my 1 kobo for the matter!

This is my 4th week waiting for Lagos VFS... but be ye not deceived, my flight is June 1 2021!!

E go be!

For people who aren't in a hurry, Lagos VFS is great. They can submit passports and even forget it there till they are ready.

For those who want quick action but don't have the money to send their passports outside the country, Abuja VFS is a better option.

For those who want all-round efficiency and have the money, Accra, Niamey or Yaounde VFS should do the trick. People even send their own as far as Dakar and South Africa.

As long as Nigerians work in the VFS, expect the "Nigerian factor". As long as the Nigerians there are Lagosians cheesy, anything goes.

sending to acrra via dhl is 27,500 and you also have to pay 378 cedes for transmission fee and return courier

ecobank nigeria won’t do it, they’ll tell you to go and use western union or moneygram

i ended up using a bureau de change in ghana to do it i paid 31k for 378 cedes for something that was meant to be 26k

The whole accra thing is a lot
They’re organized yes, but my passport isn’t back to me and i haven’t even gotten counterfoil or loi yet , It got to accra last wednesday, got tracking number on monday

DHL to Accra is N27,500 now? That's insanely high.
