Greetings my people. Please I am new in this trend and need some questions to be answered.

I received an invitation letter to attend an educational conference in November.
1. What type of visa should I apply for?
2. What documents should I go to the embassy with?
3. Please I need suggestions on cheapest flight and lodging in the USA.
4. What questions should I expect from the VO.
Thank you as you put me through.

* Traveling for the conference won't be a problem

* Start your VISA application right away.

* It's okay to visit schools.

* "Coming fall" semester starts next year August, so you have enough time apply.

Gracías Sir

ISSUED TRANSCRIPT
I am so sorry this is coming late almost 2weeks overdue.

STATS
Standardized test; GRE
Program; MPH
Funding: 10k (in-state tuition)
Deficit: 22k (tuition and others)

Interview: 18th July (Abuja Embassy)
Status updated: 14th August
Issued: 16th August

VO: Good morning, welcome to the United States of America, pass me ur passport and i20
Me: Good morning Sir (passed document)

VO: Have you travelled outside Nigeria before?
Me: Yes I have, to Beirut

VO: Where is the Visa Stamp on your passport and what did you go there to do
Me: The stamp should be on page 4 or so of my passport (flips through and saw the Visa stamp) and I went for a Scientific Conference as a Student Leader

VO: You are a Dentist so why are you going for an MPH at this time
Me: In the course of my practice, I lost a patient to a preventable oral health pathology and this impacted greatly on my.....(cuts in)

VO: So you are going to Texas A&M University Health Science Center
Me: Yes Sir, Texas A&M College Station

VO: How do you intend funding this degree
Me: I got a scholarship qualifing me for a non-resident tuition waiver and my Aunt would cover for the rest

VO: Do you have any financial evidence, bear in mind if you give me a fraudulent document u'll be ban from the US for life
Me: Yes I do, hands over bank statements in USDollars (VO goes through the statement and gave me back the bank statement)

VO: I'll be approving your Visa (hands over the 2white papers and a yellow paper where he ticked "Supplemental questions by email), I will send you a document to fill and submit online,Please confirm ur email address
Me: Thank you, my email is ...............

I left the embassy giving thanks to God, I am now in the US and have started lectures, at the POE (I was asked few questions like how many courses I will be taking this fall, how much I had on me and where I will be staying in Texas), the US is quite organized, my school is big and awesome, we have a handful of international students too.

RECOMMMENDATIONS:
1. Never underestimate God's grace in this process, Pray like you never prepared and prepare like you never prayed
2. Ask Questions from people that have crossed the path no matter how stupid they might sound (with regards to this, please feel free to ask me your questions)
3. Prepare very well and early enough; give the GRE, TOEFL or any other relevant exams, secure funding no matter how small (Applying early to schools with good GRE scores increases funding opportunities)
4. Stay Focused and DON'T BE DISCOURAGED (I was discouraged by some persons because I had a US bank Statement and was once denied a B1 Visa to attend a conference)
5. During the Interview; Be confident and honest (In addition to your answers, VOs lay emphasis on you demeanour too)...prepare well!

.....Special thanks to @fairheart and to everyone for ur contributions I learnt from them
I have been a silent follower, I'll try to be more active and contribute when necessary

Mehn, your interview sweet die Jesu!! Congratulations in Trump Land

If I don’t take those exams, what are my chances of getting the visa approved?
Please y’all should contribute and help a soul

What shall it profit you to gain admission with better funding and get denied on your interview date because of the exams? Please write to avoid HAD I KNOWN.

VISA denied on the 29th of August.
Lagos Consulate
VO: Window 4 (a blonde white woman in her early thirties)

My transcript went like this.

VO: Come along sir. Good morning, sir
Me: Good morning.
VO: Your passport, please... And also your I-20.
VO: I can see you are going to the University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler and you are going for a Biotechnology program.
Me: Yes
VO: Why do you want to school in the US.
Me: The US boast of best, groundbreaking researches that are unmatched anywhere else in the world, especially in the area of Biomedical sciences, specifically in Cancer biology. Therefore, since I intend having a career as a research scientist in this field, I believe going to the United States for a masters program in Biotechnology is the best decision to make.
VO: Are you a graduate?
Me: Yes.
VO: Oh, what did you study?
Me: Pharmacology from the University of Lagos.
VO: oh so, you are a graduate of Pharmacology and want to go into Oncology?
Me: Yes.
VO: You do not have a working experience.
Me: I do. I have a year work experience during my NYSC that I completed in March this year, where I worked in a Pharmaceutical company as a Marketing Executive. My roles involved assisting the product managers in the management of the sales team.
VO: okay - though she didn't seem impressed - so, what have you been doing since then?
Me: I have been preparing for my graduate studies.
VO: So, what will this course do for you?
Me: I intend going for a phD degree, but currently don't have adequate research experience to enable me or qualify me to go for a phD program. Having a Master degree in this course will provide me the adequate experience and equip me towards a phD degree. Also, I am particularly interested in this program because aside being awarded a graduate assistantship, tuition scholarships and tuition remission, the school has a rich history in conducting intensive research in lung diseases like lung cancer. The school is even known as the East Texas Chest Center because of the high research activity in lung diseases (I began to stutter here, and apologized. She asked me to take my time and continue that she is trying to type in everything I was saying) These researches align with my interest. Also the school actively encourages students planning to further their studies by providing opportunities to publish their researches in Top science journals.
VO: I can see you have an assistantship of 12000 dollars, who is paying for the rest?
Me: My maternal uncle.
VO: What does he do?
Me: He is a successful business man that's into importation and sales of cars.
VO: Have you traveled out of the country before?
Me: I have not had the reason until now.
VO: Alright. I am sorry, I will not be approving your VISA, this paper will explain why (with a fake sad face undecided)
I wish you the best.

Although my school already resumed on the 19th and classes started this Monday - this was the first thing the man at the passport verification point noted. However the VO never made mention of it during the interview. I was certain I was denied because of the late resumption. But is it possible the VO didn't even notice it and denied me for another reason?

Hi bro, sorry for your denial. Your transcript was great but where I sensed problem was when you mentioned PhD, I think she screamed intended immigrant in her mind. Next time you go, focus on msc, do not mention your future study plans.
I think you should write to your school for a defer.
Success next time!

Timottee:

Go to your GRE account (www.ets.org/gre). If you do not have an account, you can create one using the name and details you used to register for your exam and it will link it. After you've logged in to your account, click on "send additional score report". It will take you to a page where you can select the schools that you want to send your report to. Each report costs $27. Score reports will be sent to your designated score recipients approximately five business days after your order is placed. You can also inquire from the school if they accept unofficial copies (pdf download of your report from your account) for review purposes. This will save you time. Hope this helps.

Jah Bless Dear. Grateful
