APC to Jonathan: Come, Join Us 07 Aug 2013 Chief Bisi Akande, •Masari heads committee on party structures •Congresses, convention may hold December •Buhari: We’ll displace PDP in 2015 By Onyebuchi Ezigbo and John Shiklam The All Progressives Congress (APC) Tuesday invited President Goodluck Jonathan to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the progressive fold. APC National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, extended the invitation to the president on Tuesday in Abuja at the inaugural meeting of the Interim National Executive Committee of the party. He said the APC was ready to confer its membership on any Nigerian that is ready to identify with the party. As part of efforts towards strengthening the party, a former House of Representatives Speaker, Alhaji Aminu Masari, has been appointed to chair a nine-member committee to advise the interim national leadership on how to set up structures in all parts of the country. The APC is also considering holding its congresses and convention by December to elect those who will run various strata of the party. Also, a chieftain of the party and former Head of State, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, has assured the people that the APC will defeat the ruling PDP in 2015 to give Nigerians a new lease of life. On who will fly the party’s presidential flag in the 2015 general election, Akande said APC could not be stampeded on the issue until the party's national convention likely to hold in December. He said the task of the Masari committee would be to advise on how to organise congresses at the ward and state levels of the party. “Our duty is to organise party congresses from ward level to local and state levels and at the national level to hold the convention to establish a proper structure for the APC. Until the congresses and convention are done, we are having party leadership in the interim. "We are trying to build our foundation from bottom to the top and not from the top to down and we have had some talks about possible names of APC presidential candidates, but that is not true, we have not reached that stage. "Our major preoccupation is to set up the structure of our party. Until after November or December when we hold our national convention, where our national executive will be elected, there is no idea about who becomes our presidential candidate, flag bearer, governor or anything," he said. However, he added that the only exception would be Anambra State where a committee was already working out modalities for nominating candidate of the party for the November 16 governorship election. He confirmed that there is going to be congresses for members in Anambra State soon to enable them decide who would be the party’s candidate in the November poll. "At today's (yesterday) meeting, we have set up several committees to advise us on how to go about our affairs and most especially the elections in some states like Anambra and Delta States and local government elections in states such as Kwara, Anambra and Cross River. "The committee is to proffer strategies on how APC can contest and win elections in these places. You know political parties are in politics to win elections. "We are also expected to hold our national convention in November and December and it is only after that that we can talk about the issue of the flag bearer or the presidential candidate," Akande added. According to him, the outcome of the committee’s report would determine how and when to inaugurate these structures. On the pending court case by a rival political group, he said nothing would alter the fact that APC had been registered, adding that the party has come to stay. "In Nigeria today, we do not know any other APC apart from the All Progressives Congress and we do not contemplate anything and nothing will happen to move this APC out of place. We remain a party and we shall remain a party forever to rule this country," he said. He said APC was no longer new being an amalgam of old parties and so it would not face any challenge in contesting the 2015 elections. "In doing so, the only thing we feel is creating some misunderstanding is that people are anxious to be part of APC but because the party has never given a directive, some people were just talking on behalf of the party without authority. We are putting a stop to that. "Any statement about APC should emanate from the office of the party's publicity secretary and what he says reflects the true position and mind of the party. We are warning all people who are arrogating to themselves chairmanship of APC in the states and local government areas to desist from doing so because they are unauthorised. "All those who are printing forms and calling rallies in the name of APC are also not authorised to do so,” he said. He said the supporters should exercise patience until the constitution of party structures so that authority could flow down to every level. On what the emergence of APC portends for the polity, Akande said Nigeria has by that singular act made progress in the democratic process. "I think that the country is making progress. No matter what anybody thinks, even our enemies believe that a two-party system deepens democracy better and if we do not contribute anything to the deepening of democracy in this country, we have championed the possibility of giving Nigerians a two-party system in a democracy,” he added. At another forum yesterday, APC chieftain, Buhari, said the party was determined to push the PDP out of power in 2015. According to him, the APC would give Nigerians a new life and hope. Buhari, who spoke at his Kaduna office when he received members of Democratic Emancipation Movement (DEM) who visited him, commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for registering the APC. He however declined to make any categorical statement on his presidential ambition in 2015, saying his decision would be tied to the constitution of the APC. "If the party chooses me as its candidate, I will contest; if they do not consider me, I will not contest, but I will still support the party. My decision to run for 2015 will solely be the party’s decision," he said. Speaking on the merger of political parties that formed the APC, Buhari said the talks about merger began since 2007. "This is because we found out that none of the opposition parties can challenge PDP successfully. But if we come together with those that have representation at the National Assembly and the Houses of the Assemblies and go back to sensitise our constituencies, even if the PDP wants to rig, they would find it impossible to rig. “I discovered that by being so divisive, we made ourselves very vulnerable. So, the best way to survive and for this country to stabilise, we just have to come together and I believe along the line we made the necessary sacrifices,” he said. umra_8901: This is the silliest thing I've seen in a long while. If a radiographer does not know or understand what he/she's taking, then how does he/se know what wat has been done is correct and diagnostic? When a doctor requests for a radiograph, he states what area needs to be imaged and the pathology to be queried or fracture etc and then the radiographer takes the image in the best possible way to view what is needed. The radiogrpaher then has to check this image to see if it's diagnostic or if there is any pathology that needs to be reported on urgently so the patient can go straight to A&E etc. This is the silliest comment I've heard in a long time. That a radiographer diagnose when you have a radiologist around. My friend stop massaging your ego. Radiographers don't diagnose....how will you diagnose a patient with histoplasmosis from someone with tuberculosis? Or using a CT scan to stage a lymphoma? Your so called knowledge of anatomy and physiology pales in comparison to a doctor's knowledge in that field and with his clinical acumen in medicine and surgery, you become lost. And finally the challenge of diagnosis is not in making claims, but to be able to support it with the necessary clinical details. Only someone with a good knowledge of medicine and surgery is qualified to do that... |
as for those calling gej a failure. ..it just boils down to politics. Rubbish him ahead of 2015 to get to that seat. Tinubu wont do any better. Train services are back, power is up, foreign reserve is up, airports are being rehabilitated, river Niger has been dredged, agric is up with cassava and rice programs, road rehabs are on like the jebba mokwa road, national health bill, PIB, and lots more. Though the security issue viz a viz boko haram and kidnapping is a smear on his records though the issue is more complicated than we see it... and the fight against corruption is still not full swing. But neither obj nor yaradua faired better.... and please tinubu won't do better. In summary there's still work to be done, but gej has not done badly..... |
as much as i believe the apology wasnt neccessary, the apology letter was deep, well constructed with intent and purpose.... the language smacks of intellectualism and politics which i believe is not AY'S area of specialisation..... the letter wasn't written by AY,but by a well paid professional speech writer... |
@onomeasike....you are a big dunce and a half baked ignoramus.... no where in the world is there any other professional higher than a medical doctor..... he is the best trained to handle and manage patient health concerns.... all other healthcare professionals know in parts and act in parts.... i dont hav tym to argue with ignoramuses like u.... go and read more and get enlightened and stop being decieved by the likes of JOHESU,MLSCN, AMLSN et al..... organisations whose sole aim is to bring down the medical doctor.... yet when their dear ones are ill they run looking for a medical doctor... mtcheew! incase you are not a health professional, pls ignore this foolish person,I am sure he thinks so highly of a doctor whereas he is so intellectually lazy to find out the curriculum content of other healthcare professional.such kind of statement will only come from a fool who thinks a doctor ORDERS(imagine this fool saying a doctor orders his professional equals to do test!)it tells you the kind of mentality this fool has.A doctor that can not synthesize a simple aspirin yet can order around a drug expert because he spent just 2years of basic clinical pharmacology(haba)! In case you dont know, you guys are actually glorified errands boy for pharmacists who ,if iwant to use ur words,ORDER DOCTORS,to prescribe their products.if you dont,u are regarded as incompetent by the patients and no show for you. Now,who is the boss?pharmacists stay at the background and run things. The nurse regards an arrogant doctor as a fool because he is not always around and most times will rely on the info collected and recorded by the nurse, infact, the nurses back the patient to good health even a fatal error done by adoctor. The nurse is the backbone of patient care especially in-patient.The med lab guys can make the fool out of even the most experienced doctor as clinical diagnosis relies heavily on lab results, infact,if the doctor is not convinced of the lab results,he seeks a second opinion by approaching another lab scientist!not another doctor to do the lab test for him/her!So if he continues to jump from one lab to another and while doing so he cannot make a final diagnosis,so who is the boss? This mumu is here saying a doctor can order people who are not under him/her.Go to the medical lab and order lab scientists and see what you will see or why dont you enter pfizer, emzor, fidson and order pharmacists.[/quote] |
I don't think it's the likes of Sasha, hanky w, funks akin dele should represent Nigeria here.... They are yet to pay their dues for the nation...?. People we need there are the likes of kanu, hamed audio, segun odegbami, power ,atanda musa, chidi Imoh, innocent egbunike, Mary onyali,Samson siasia,Peter rufai, joe lasisi et al..... People who have paid their dues for the country... Not some overhyped stars... Please give me a break.. |
There's no generation that didnt applaud the past and lament the present.... GEJ govt is not the worst... During OBJ's tenure people claimed abacha's govt was better.... It is the usual vicious cycle of lamenting the present.... I see all these as media war by ACN and CPC sympathizers to rubbish Jonathan ahead of 2015 or else this topic is no brainer. |
stillme: Tell dat to GEJ. Fashola is kind. Anybody can be provoked to do what he/she doesnt wish to do. It's good that he listened and acted wisely unlike GEJ.I wonder how some people reason and others applaud them. BRF goofed..... Sacking of those doctors was a terrible decision that affected his political scoresheet and nearly affected ACN's public image. Did he ever think he will get 788 experienced doctors to manage the shortfall? I laugh in fulfulde..... As for u stillme u should understand the hand of politics in all these...... Jonathan has already met with NARD executives in Abuja and he gave them his word he will look into it but NARD should stay action on the solidarity strike. NARD agreed to do that.... This was on Wednesday evening 31st may...... This obviously sent shivers down the spine of ACN and by the following day they were forced to take the only decision which is to recall the sacked doctors..... Fashola could not be made to swallow the bitter pill of accepting defeat by making a recall because that will lower his political credence, bu t tinubu made the recall to make him look like a benevolent leader who is interested In the welfare of the people but who is really eyeing 2015. I tell u if GEJ had done this SNG, ACN,CPC, and so called progressives will cause such a media tsunami that god may be forced to mediate. Simple fashola and ACN goofed on this one. |
Where was Soyinka when fashola sacked 788 doctors inlagos? Something more pathetic. Abeg let Soyinka keep quiet.... It is evident he is biased against Jonathan...he should remove the speck in his eyes before he can see the log in Jonathan's eye..... |
I am appalled by some of the comments I see here,,,,,increasing their salaries and everyone is rejoicing.....what is an average policeman's education to command such an amount. Is a schl cert policemen more of a social capital than the bsc teacher, nurse or chemist.no.a nation's social capital is built on brain not brawn...increase in their salaries is not what they need but a better allowance package and more in depth training in police work as many of them can't express themselves in good English talk less of understanding the laws that guides police work and the rights of citizens they protect..... I want to see a policeman that after his training he can gather some on the job experience that will make him fit to be head of security of a fortune 500 company..... |
ikechiozo: It is you that needs to get some clarification into your skull if at all there is something inside it. You need to understand what the striking workers are agitating for, the professionals you mentioned are but a fraction of the other health workforce on strike. Nobody is contesting the head of your medical team with you. You can head your residents, house officers and other doctors but i do know that i dont need a doctor to perform my independent professional actions and decisions. It ill behoves you, considering your level of education to make such uninformed comments here. it is clear from your post that you dont know how other departments outside your pathology run, for example you said a radiographer is the least ranked amongst radiologist, medical physicist and radiographer. This is pure fallacy, as these three are different professionals and they all have their role to play before a diagnosis is made. The health workers are not requesting to head your team. All we are saying is that those positions that are purely administrative in duties should be open to all professionals within the system that are qualified. For these positions a good knowledge of management, accounting, Administration is indispensable....Pls tell me are these skills part of what is tested in an mbbs exam except i have forgotten how its done. bigger idiot Dnaz: For your Mindfrom your comment i can c u are a radiographer or preferably an imaging scientist as they ere called abroad....well let me clarify some things for you.a radiologist uses imaging means to manage patients, radiographers dont. by training a radiologist knows the principle behind the workings of the imaging equipments and can use them if need be.he can further go ahead to see a patient learn about the patient problem and give appropiate treatment as a regular doctor, a radiographer cant.... or wherever you do ur locum dont u see that patient see the radiologist around b/f u are called to do ur own work.as of comparison to a medical physicist, u are nowhere near them.....they plan radiation dosing along with radiologists and also use of radionucleutides in nuclear medicine.... radiographers are just the errand boys.... i guess u now understand ur position and humbly accept that u are the and only bigger idiot. u also need an MRI to ascertain if ur thalamus is well wired to the cerebral cortex and if u don't have atrophy of the corpus callosum and amygdala....further studies will involve checking for neuro fibrillary tangles, amyloid plaques, tau and lewy bodies , and csf oligoclonal bands.... the one and only bigger idiot.... |

who is AU and who is tam david west not to recognise the TNC in libya, this is simple politics 101, USA EU and some other arab states recognise them, these are the major players in world politics, naija and AU have very political clout when it comes to world politics , so the safest bet for jonathan was to recognise the TNC since most of the world superpowers has done dat, again any body who can read between the lines will know that immediately NATO came on board giving support to the rebels, gaddafi was a goner, it was just a matter of time, and for david west still calling gaddafi libya's leader, he shld go and read the new revised history books, wat we shld be talking abt now is wat will naija gain from a recognising a post-gaddafi regime, shikena, |
ihave been following this thread for sometimes and i like some of the comments made. however i will like to point out some things , first i appreciate the observation by manga in a late post which he clarified that in USA the laboratory physician otherwise pathologist ultimately heads the laboratory.this obtains in the western and advanced countries, there is a difference between a pathologist and a medical lab scientist. this difference is noted by bernard in their job functions. according to the american society for clinical pathology(a society that oversees the certification of lab professional includuing medical technologists in USA) career handbook for lab professionals, A pathologist is a physician (MD or DO) who examines tissues and is responsible for the accuracy of laboratory tests. Pathologists interpret the results of these examinations and tests while Medical technologists work in all areas of the clinical laboratory including blood banking, chemistry, hematology, immunology, and microbiology. They perform a full range of laboratory tests – from simple premarital blood tests, to more complex tests to uncover diseases such as HIV/AIDS, diabetes, and cancer. They are also responsible for confirming the accuracy of test results, and reporting laboratory findings to pathologists and other physicians. from the above you can see that pathologists and medical lab scientists perform different functions, however there other professionals in the lab from the career handbook viz the medical lab technicians, the cytotechnologists, the histotechnologists.the pathologists' assistant.in nigeria all these except the technician are seen as medical lab scientists, there are two clarifications i'll like to make. the first is in trying to insinuate that a medical lab scientist , i mean a bachelor's in training and competence can be equated to a pathologists as the ultimate head of the lab.it is insulting. a ph.d scientist in western countries can to a certain extent be at par with the pathologists, but not a bachelor's degree holder, there is no basis for comparision, 2nd clarification the ph.d lab scientist can head a lab.in UK they do but increasingly are expected to have at least an MRCPath qualification, prof agbolanhor of LabCore has an FRCPath, but he is not a pathologist.pathologists and PH.D lab scientists interprete result, but when added clinical responsibilities are needed a pathologist takes responsibility |
i still dey laugh oooo i guess after the elections he will quote a passage that says i dey laugh ooo, lol really wen did god stop speaking to okotie and started speaking to bakare, if he wants to contest there is absolutely nothing wrong with it, every contestant will tell u they also heard from god and will quote verses to back their claim, please keep god out of this matter and work hard for ur election, all the best to u. |
perhaps you should ask urself wat u want to do when/if u come to naija, not many people make 2mils a month in a country with over half below povert line, mind u the nos of household in washington dc that makes 200,000 dollars per annum is a paltry 6%, that is in god's own country compared to a country like naija, |
