Politics / Ogun State Polytechnic: Non Yoruba Indigenes In Ogun Commend Amosun by Irukkanews: 10:10am On Jan 26, 2018
Non Yoruba Indigenes living in Ogun State under the umbrella of Non Yoruba Indigenes Empowerment Initiative(NYIEI), has commended Governor Ibikunle Amosun for the formal take off of the Ogun State Polytechnic, located in Ipokia,Ogun West Senatorial District.

Speaking at the venue of the ground breaking ceremony of the institution ,the Founder/Chairman of the organization, Chief Dr Chris Orie said that the commissioning is in furtherance of Governor Amosun`s land mark achievement in education. Recall that Ogun State students came first nationwide in the recently released National Examination Council (NECO), the second time in three years.

According to him, by locating the institution in Ipokia, Ogun West Senatorial Zone, the governor has shown fairness in the distribution of infrastructure and other amenities in the state. He said in some other states in the federation, what the governors do is, instead of building new structures in zones outside their own, they would be revoking existing ones there and bringing them to their own zone. According to him, it is statesmen like Amosun that Nigeria needs to move forward.

He said that apart from delivering on education ,the governor is also delivering in the other sectors like road and housing. According to him, the Ogun Polytechnic would not only provide empowerment and employment, it would also increase the value of land in the area. He said that today Ogun State as a whole is wearing a new look as a result of uniform development which the governor is bringing state.

"We the Non Yoruba Indigenes Empowerment Initiative is appreciating the action governor of Ogun State Ibikunle Amosun for the giant stride he has made with regard to education. Today, Ogun State is the number one in education in the country because our children are schooling under very conducive environment. Most of the schools in the state have been renovated or giving a face-lift.

Another thing that we highly appreciate the governor is his policy of even development of the state. In some states of the federation, some governors concentrate on the development of their own senatorial zone. They see governorship as an opportunity for their senatorial zones to cut their own pound of flesh. But here in Ogun the governor has being very fair in the distribution of resources and structures among the three senatorial zones. That is even why he is insisting that governorship should rotate to Ogun West senatorial zone in 2019”

Politics / It Is Insanity For Anybody To Wish Buhari To Continue Beyond 2019 - Igbo Youths by Irukkanews: 6:01pm On Jan 24, 2018
Igbo Youths under the aegis of Igbo Youths Initiative has thrown their weight behind the call by former president Olusegun Obasanjo for President Muhammadu Buhari not to seek re-election. Speaking with irukkanews, the Founder/President of the group, Prince Alexander Ezeobi said that Buhari has no reason whatsoever to seek second term of office. According to him, the citizens of the country are currently going through hell, adding that Nigerians cannot bear another four years of Buhari in office.

He said Nigerians have shown enough patience for Buhari`s myriad of incompetence. According to him, Buhari must not try to stretch the patience of Nigerians further since there is a limit to human endurance. He said that it is insanity for anybody to wish for Buhari to stay in office beyond 2019, going by the suffering in the land. According to him, the best thing for President Muhammdau Buhari is to start packing his bag out of the presidential villa. His words,

"To be honest, I am not a fan of former President Olusegun Obasanjo because I strongly believe that he is one of the problems with Nigeria. But if I am not happy with the messenger, I am happy with the message. Obasanjo spoke the minds of the majority of the country. Nigerians are currently going through hell. We have never had it this bad in the country.

Buhari would do a lot of good to Nigerians and also himself by not seeking re-election in 2019. If you look at his frailty now and imagine how he would be looking in the next five years. So, apart from his failures in every front, the youths are now ruling the world. He should go home to take a deserved rest. Age is not on his side. He is also not in the best of health, therefore, the best thing for him to do is to go home and rest. He has made his mark”.

Ezeobi lambasted the Igbo leaders in APC who went to endorse President Buhari for second term. According to him, the people are a disgrace not only to themselves and their families but to Igbo nation. He said that the so-called Igbo leaders in APC that went to endorse Buhari don’t have electoral values.

"The so called Igbo in APC that went to endorse Buhari for second term are vagabonds. They have no electoral values. For instance, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu who for many years was the National Chairman of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party(ANPP), did not even produce counselor for the party in his village.

So,do the rest of them. I want to tell you that next year, if Buhari dares to run, he would utterly be humiliated, not only in Igbo land but in every part of the country. So, I want Nigerians to know that those who went

Politics / Ogun 2019: Rotation Of Power The Only Way Forward - NYIEI by Irukkanews: 3:25pm On Jan 24, 2018
A non political organization under the aegis of Non Yoruba Indigenes Empowerment Initiative (NYIEI), has thrown its weight behind the clamor that the next governor of Ogun state should come from Ogun west senatorial zone. Recall that since the inception of the current democracy in 1999, Ogun West has not produced governor.

According to the chairman of the organization, Chief Dr Chris Orie, democracy which is defined as government of the people, by the people and for the people thrives more where there is justice and equity. He said that the agitations in different parts of the country today is because some sections are being marginalized or totally left out in the scheme of things. According to him, Yewa district has a lot of sons and daughters with capacities and competences to continue the transformation which Ibikunle Amosun has started in the state.

He said that it would not be fair if people of Ogun East and Central senatorial zones who have tested the governorship positions come to compete with Ogun west in 2019. Chief Orie said that though rotation of power is not in the constitution, people should learn to be guided by conscience, since what is good for the goose should also be good for the gender. According to him, Non Yoruba Indigenes Empowerment Initiative though a non political organization is interested in peace and development of Ogun State.

He said because of this, they want the people from Ogun East and Central senatorial zones to shelve their governorship election and support the emergence of the best governorship candidate from Yewa district. His words,

"Non Yoruba Indigenes Empowerment Initiative ,though a non- political organization but we cannot close our eyes to the developments in the state. General election is coming on next year and we know that of all the senatorial zones in the state, it is only Ogun West that has not tested governorship. The tensions in the country today is because some sections are being marginalized.

We are interested in the development of the state and this can only be possible in an atmosphere of peace. We also know that peace can only prevail where there is justice. Based on this, we are supporting the call that Ogun West should be given the opportunity to produce the successor to Ibikunle Amosun in 2019. At the same time, we are appealing to the people of Ogun East and Central to be of good conscience and shelve their governorship ambitions and join hands for the best candidate from Ogun West to emerge.

Politics / Ogun 2019: Ogun State Will Not Go To A Non Indigene - Amosun by Irukkanews: 3:16pm On Jan 22, 2018
Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has reiterated his commitment to hand over the baton of leadership to an Ogun West indigene in 2019. The governor, gave the commitment, while playing host to prominent elders from Ogun West Senatorial district, who paid him a solidarity visit at his Oke-Mosan Abeokuta office, adding that he would not hand over to a non indigene, pretending to "be a son of the soil".

He said he would not be distracted by the attitudes of those he described as desperate politicians, trying to rock the boat. The governor, who pleaded with the Yewa Elders to close ranks, equally enjoined them not to see governorship aspirants from Ogun East and Central Senatorial Districts as enemies, but as partners in progress.

"Our people from Ogun East and Central are not our enemies, because they also have the right to aspire. We need to lobby, consult and reach out to them for their support", he said.

He allayed the fears of the Yewa Elders that he was deceiving them on the Yewa Agenda, pointing out that "it is only a coward that would say a thing and would not stand with it to the end".

Professor Anthony Asiwaju, Engr. Kehinde Aina, Chief Ajibabi Basiru, Chief Ayinde Ibikunle and Hon. Kunle Elegbede, from Imeko Afon, Ado-Odo Otta, Ipokia, Yewa South and Yewa North Local Government Areas, respectively, all said in unison that they would go with Amosun wherever he wishes on the Yewa Agenda in 2019.

Also speaking on behalf of Yewa Think Thank Group, a former Head of Service and Secretary to the State Government, Deacon Poju Adeyemi, said the body is yet to adopt any candidate for the 2019 gubernatorial race.
Equally, Senator Iyabo Anisulowo, Prof. Biyi Afonja and Senator Kola Bajomo, said

Politics / How Confab 2014 Can Arrest The Politics Of Stomach Infrastructure by Irukkanews: 12:57pm On Jan 19, 2018
HOW CONFAB 2014 CAN ARREST THE POLITICS OF STOMACH INFRASTRUCTURE a.k.a. MY POCKET DETERMINES MY BP (Blood Pressure).

I want to begin this topical political discourse by first acknowledging the contribution of my friend from the fourth estate of the realm, whose coinage, ”My pocket determines my BP (blood pressure), I have decided to borrow for this exercise. According to his conceptualization of "my pocket determines my BP,” there is a correlation between the amount of money in his pocket and the level of his blood pressure. For him, his blood pressure level shoots up high when there is not enough money in his pocket and vice-versa and this occurs in equal intensity.

However, the concept of stomach infrastructure can be traced to the Marxist theory as propounded by German philosopher, Karl Marx, in describing the relationship between the haves and the have-nots (the bourgeoisie and the proletariats) where he identified the stomach as occupying a space in the sub-structure which influences other factors in the super-structure such as politics and religion because man must first eat to satisfy his stomach and stay alive to pursue politics and religion.

Unarguably, the concept of stomach infrastructure appears to have gained serious traction in the Nigerian political terrain as a result of the deliberate, serial and calculated impoverishment of the common masses by the insatiable Nigerian political elite who deliberately exploit the military-inspired deficiencies in our political construct to gain cheap popularity and followership which secures electoral successes for them. In other words, it captures a scenario whereby the political elite exploit the constitutionally defective political system that makes the citizenry see political office-holders who exercise their statutory responsibility of providing social amenities et al as messiahs whereas provision of such is the inalienable entitlements of the masses who have become so pauperized and economically raped to the point of accepting crumbs from the master’s table with so much gratitude, servitude and reverence.

The fall-out of this state of affairs has now translated to the mindset or mentality widespread among the downtrodden hoi-polloi that such crumbs for example, few cups of rice, salt, paltry cash gifts and locally made fabrics or textile materials bearing inscriptions of the demagogues, political party logos and insignia, among other such petty gratifications, form their own dividends of democracy or their own accessible portion of the "National cake” as they perceive it. They demand for it before their votes can be secured knowing that once the political gladiators ascend to power the window to the national cake also closes.

This is also the circumstance that berthed the "area boys” syndrome making the so-called area boys a willing tool in the hands of these political shylocks who engineer them to wreak havocs on political opponents.
The foregoing has therefore made the electoral process to be unnecessarily very expensive and hijacked by the highest bidder who, if he wants to win votes, must line the pockets of the electorate very well in order to reduce their high blood pressure levels caused by lack of probity in governance, otherwise no dice. With the cost of elective office been very high, thereby raising the propensity for corruption since elected officials in Nigeria are not "father Christmas” democratic institutions therefore falter placing enormous strains on accountability in governance.

The popular patriotic mantra "think what you can do for your country and not what your country can do for you” therefore becomes a stranger to this breed of Nigerian politicians because for them, politics is a business venture and capitalism requires that profits must be made from "political” investments.
Against this backdrop, therefore, recalling an utterance by a currently serving minister who had served eight years as a Speaker of his state’s House of Assembly and also served eight years as a governor of the same state that he does "not like money” is funny enough to make a baboon burst into bouts of laughter. Yes! He is right because he has acquired so much money that it no longer has any appeal to him. It is rather the common man in the streets who likes, in fact, loves money because he has not seen enough of it and how can he see enough of it when the state pays him a meager N18, 000 minimum wages whereas school fee for just one of his children is above his chronically delayed salary? To cling to dear life, he resorts to herbal medication without empirical or approved dosage or patronizes quack drug dispensers because adequate healthcare is not within his reach.

His pension at the end of his stewardship becomes subject to embezzlement by the same elected officials who indulge in such callous exploits with impunity because the judicial, legislative and law enforcement institutions to protect his rights and entitlements have all been emasculated, to mention but a few.
It is on the basis of this callous strangulation of the polity’s democratic institutions by a defective constitutional framework that the current agitations and clamor across all strata and political divide in the country for comprehensive, all-encompassing overhaul or restructuring of the nation becomes imperative especially as recommended by the 2014 National Confab report which recommends part-time legislature that will be robust enough to actively engage the rampaging executive arm of government and checkmate their excesses among other germane recommendations that will strengthen our democratic institutions to ensure that the citizenry’s pockets no longer determine the level of their blood pressure.

I am of the opinion that even if the 2014 confab report is implemented and succeeds in addressing up to 50%-60% of our national issues, the remaining percentage of problems would naturally resolve themselves because Nigeria’s challenges are embedded in systemic maladjustment.

Politics / 2019: Non Yoruba Indigenes In South West APC Set To Mobilize For Buhari's by Irukkanews: 11:05am On Jan 19, 2018
2019: Non Yoruba Indigenes In South West APC Set To Mobilize For Buhari's Re-Election

Non Yoruba Indigenes in the All Progressives Congress(APC) in South west, is setting structures in place to begin to mobilize for the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019. Speaking with irukkanews, the Chairman of the organization in South west, Chief Dr Chris Orie, said no matter what some people are saying, President Buhari remains the most credible candidate for the 2019 presidential election.

He said that non Yoruba Indigenes in APC Southwest would under the sun and in the rain to ensure that he would be re-elected. According to him, right now they are appointing coordinators in all the wards in South-west geo-political zone for easy mobilization of their people for the re-election. He said that Non Yoruba Indigenes constitute over 60 per cent of the electorates in Southwest, adding that with proper mobilization, the presidents re-election would not be as difficult as a lot of people are speculating.

Chief Orie said that what most people are in agreement with is that Buhari meant well for the country. He said that some people in his cabinet are corrupt or not following his vision is not necessarily the fault of the president. According to him, even though Jesus Christ was part of the God head and as such supposed to be omniscience, he still appointed Judas, one of his disciples. He said that Judas who was one of the apostles was corrupt, did not in any way reduce the attribute of his master Jesus Christ His words,

”We the members of Non Yoruba Indigenes in APC southwest geo political zone is setting up structures so start mobilizing in earnest for President Buhari`s re-election in 2019. We are currently appointing coordinators in all the wards in Southwest zone, starting from Ogun State. We have done what is known as SWOT in politics ,meaning Strength, Weakness, Opportunity and Threat and have discovered that our strength is stronger than our weakness and our opportunites are more than our threats ,which means we would deliver southwest to President Buhari in 2019.

The threats that we would have would mainly be as a result of misconception or ignorance, which means a lot of awareness would be made because the masses are painting everybody in the presidency with the same brush which is very wrong. That one or two persons in the presidency have baggage does not in any way affect President Buhari`s integrity. He remains the most credible candidate for the presidential election .That is why we are going to work hard to return him.

Politics / Non Yoruba Indigenes In Ogun APC Join President Buhari Re-election Campaign Orga by Irukkanews: 12:09pm On Jan 17, 2018
Non Yoruba Indigenes In Ogun APC Join President Buhari Re-Election Campaign Organization

The re-election campaign organization of President Muhammadu Buhari received a boost as Non Yoruba Indigenes in APC Ogun State teamed up with them. According to the founder of the organization, Chief Dr.Chris Orie, the reason for joining forces with the Buhari re-election campaigning organization is because they strongly believe in the project. He said that it is not in doubt President Buhari means well for the country, adding that if he is given another term, he would take the Nigeria to the next level.

Chief Orie said that going by the fact that Buhari came on board when the global economy was on a decline and coupled with other crisis he inherited, he has done well in stirring the ship of the country. According to him, even though president Buhari has not fulfilled all his campaign promises, he has delivered on the cardinal ones like fight on corruption, security and agriculture. He said with Buhari on the saddle, the corrupt elements in the country now know that it is no more business as usual.

According to him, for the first time in many years, live and businesses have come back to the north east part of the country. He said that peace has also returned to the crisis prone Niger delta as a result of the leadership prowess of Buhari. Chief Orie said that they believe that Buhari need to be supported so that he would continue with the good work that they are already doing.

"We the members of Non-Yoruba Indigenes APC Forum, Southwest geo-political zone are throwing our weight behind the re-electon of President Muhammadu Buhari and Prof.Yemi Osinbajo. The decision to back them came after analyzing the situation in the world in general and Nigeria in particular before they came in and where we are right now. There are every indication that we are moving forward as a country and nobody in his right sense will want to change a winning team.

So, our position is that they should be supported and also encouraged to continue with the good work that they are doing for the country. Corruption has been the bane of our development and since they came on board, those who have been stealing our commonwealth have gone under ground, living in fear or under investigation. Therefore, Buhari and Osinbajo need to stay longer in office so that this war on corruption would be entrenched in our consciousness. If corruption is eradicated from our society and systems, there would be constant power supply There would be good roads, hospitals, pipe borne water, industries, employment and others and it is only Buhari and Osinbajo that can make this possible”. Chief Orie said

Crime / Ifeanyi Okpoko Goes To Court Over Anambra Ritual Murder Case by Irukkanews: 11:36am On Jan 12, 2018
After several attempts at subverting justice, Ifeanyi Okpoko who was arrested some time last year for allegedly kidnapping and murdering one Chidera Ezeanya at Eziowelle Town, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State for the purpose of using him for ritual would on February 2, appear in court at Awka.

The family of the deceased had sent an SOS to the foremost human right organization, Crusade for Justice, alleging that the suspect Ifeanyi Okpoko was trying to bribe his way out of the heinous crime by telling Police that what led to Chidera`s death was mob attack.

Recall that the body of Chidera Ezeanya was found dead and tied to a crane in Okpoko`s compound in Eziowlle with some vital organs missing. The family had alleged that Okpoko had personally arranged and paid for Chidera`s autopsy and also influenced his (Okpoko) transfer from Ogidi Police Station where he was in detention to Abuja because he knew that the aged and poverty ridden father of Chidera would not be able to go to Abuja to follow the case.

The Founder of Crusade for Justice, Barr. Richard Apo Nwankwo had intervened in the case by petitioning the Inspector General of Police as well as the National Assembly over the attempt by Okpoko to obstruct justice.
Following this move, Okpoko was taken to court and reminded, while his case file was sent to the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) which early this year came out with a verdict that Okpoko should be charged with murder and that the case should commence on February 2, 2018

Speaking on the development, Nwankwo said that he is fully prepared to prosecute the case to the letter. According to him, whoever was involved in the murder of Chidera must not go free, no matter how rich he thinks he is. He said that what drew his attention to the case was the way, the deceased was tied on a crane and left over night to die. According to him ,even in war situation,it is very wrong to suffer a human being that way. His words,

"Well the DPP has released its report and the case is starting on February 2. This case has dragged for so long because of attempts to subvert justice. We have to petition the Inspector General of Police as well as the National Assembly which in-turn called on the Police to brief them on the matter. Now the case is in court and nobody knows what would happen because it is going to be a battle between the prosecution and defense counsels and I believe that both parties are competent enough to handle their job. All I want to say that we the prosecuting counsel is battle ready and we hope that at the end of the day, justice would be done.”

The analysis of the result showed that Ogun State fielded 5687 students and led the other 36 states and Abuja by recording 91.42 per cent pass

Recall that this is the second time in three years that the state is achieving this feat in education. It also came tops in the November/December 2016 School Certificate Examination. In the analysis announced then by the Registrar ,Prof .Charles Uwakwe, Ogun State had the best result as 5183 students obtained five credit and above in all subjects representing 91.13 per cent.

According to the founder /chairman of the organization, Chief Dr Chris Orie, the result is a testimony of Governor Amosun`s development strides in the state. He said that education can only thrive where there is peace and decorum. According to him, as part of the infrastructural revolution which the Amosun administration has brought to Ogun State, students now school under conditions that enhance learning.
He said it is because of this that the state is now leading the other 36 states and the federal capital territory in education

According to him, it is because of this the non-Yoruba indigenes in Ogun have rallied round the governor and giving him maximum support. He also said as partners in progress, they are searching for the candidate who would continue with what the governor is doing in the state.

"We, the Non Yoruba indigenes in Ogun state saluate the action governor of Ogun State with regard to the giant strides he is making in education. Ogun State is once again in three years the number one in NECO. Never in history has the state has it this good in education.

Politics / 2019: Stop Buhari, Stop Incessant Fulani Herdsmen Massacre Of Innocent Nigerians by Irukkanews: 6:15pm On Jan 10, 2018
A pan Nigerian pressure group, National Vanguard for Good Governance has said that the only way to stop incessant massacre of innocent Nigerians by barbaric and blood thirsty Fulani herdsmen is to reject the All Progressives Congress in the 2019 general election. Speaking with irukkanews on the recent massacre of Benue indigenes by the Fulani herdsmen, the National Coordinator of the group, Mallam Umar Farouk said that the coming to power of President Muhammadu Buhari who is the grand patron of Miyetti Allah, has emboldened the herdsmen and gave them the feeling that they can do anything and get away with it.

According to him, the situation was made worse by the fact that whenever they struck, they are allowed to go scot free by the law enforcement agencies. He said as long as President Buhari remains in power, the security agencies would be treating the murderous herdsmen like sacred cows so as not to offend the president.
Mallam Farouk said that the first responsibility of any government is the protection of lives and properties of its citizens.

However, he said since the Buhari led government came into power ,the country has been soaked with the blood of innocent Nigerians. He said instead of crying and feeling pity for one another, Nigerians should protest with their votes by rejecting the All Progressive Congress in 2019 presidential election
According to him, as long as Buhari remains in power the Fulani herdsmen would continue to kill without been held accountable. His words;

"Every Nigerian adult knows that since the first Republic or even beyond, the Fulani herdsmen have been living peacefully with their host communities in every part of Nigeria. They have been very law abiding. That was why under the governments of Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo,Umaru Musa Yar`Adua and Goodluck Jonathan, they were not an issue in the country.

But the coming to power of Muhammadu Buhari who is the grand patron of Miyetti Allah has given them different feeling, They now have the feeling of invincibility. They now feel that since their own man is in power ,they can do anything and get away with it. That is why they are now attacking innocent Nigerians and even military personnel with reckless abandon and getting away with it..So, the only way to stop this massacre of innocent Nigerians is to reject Buhari and his All Progressives Congress in the 2019, general election. Any other thing than this is continuous killing of helpless Nigerians.

Politics / We Are Not Divided - NIYAF by Irukkanews: 1:17pm On Jan 10, 2018
The Founder/Chairman, Non Yoruba Indigenes APC Forum (NYIAF),Chief Dr Chris Orie has said that the different non Yoruba Indigenes associations in the All Progressives Congress in the southwest is not a sign of disunity. According to him, some have thought that with the existence of groups like Vision, Mandate and Coalition that non Yoruba indigenes in the south west is not united.

He said himself as the founder, Non Yoruba Indigenes APC Forum South West, alongside the South West Leader, Chief Anselem S.E Njoku and other South West Leaders of the groups have decided to make this clarification so as to clear the doubts. According to him, the Principle that binds all the Non Yoruba Indigenes in the South West is unity and one voice .adding that as long as you are not an indigene of the South West, you definitely inherently belong to the Non Yoruba Indigenes Forum.

Speaking further he said, "Therefore, it is of paramount importance to inform interested camps via this medium that the Non Yoruba Indigenes APC Forum recognizes Vision, Mandate and Coalition from all geo-political zones and other emerging groups as part and parcel of us so long as it is not an indigenous Political Pressure group in South West. The structure is very simple. The Non Yoruba Indigenes APC Forum is the Mother and General Apex Political Pressure APC group of all Non Yoruba Indigenes resident in the South West.

NYIAF is not sectional, it rather comprises South South, South East, Middle Belt and Arewa Nigerians living in the South West.Other groups earlier mentioned are sectional and therefore cater for the interests of people of their regions in South West. But NYIAF represents the interests of all sections of Non Yoruba Indigenes in the South West irrespective of language, religion, tribe and gender ”.

Chief Orie said that it is also imperative to state here that the sub APC Political Pressure Groups such as: Vision, Mandate and Coalition exist among people of all geo-political groups of Non Yoruba Indigenes (i.e. South South, Arewa, Middle Belt and South East) domicile in the South West and are under their Apex Political Pressure Groups. According to him,for instance, South South APC Forum is the Apex Political Pressure Group of the people from South South in the South West. So South South Vision, South South Mandate and South South Coalition collapse into the South South APC Forum as their Apex Political Pressure Group and is being headed by Chief Adolphus Anum.

He said the same applies to the Apex Political Pressure Group of the South East Chaired by Chief Ignatius Odennaka, which is the South East APC Forum. In that case, the Igbo Vision, Igbo Mandate and Igbo Coalition collapse into South East APC Forum. For the people of Arewa, Arewa APC Forum forms the Apex Political Pressure Group of the Arewa zone with Alhaji Isa Likali as the South West Chairman. So Arewa Vision, Arewa Mandate and Arewa Coalition becomes part of the Apex body.

According to him the arrangement remains the same with the Middle Belt APC Forum as the Apex Political Pressure Group of the Middle Belters whose Chairman is Chief Agamah Emmanuel. Middle Belt Vision, Middle Belt Mandate and Middle Belt Coalition integrates into the Apex body as well.

"This is how it stands, hence, the need to throw more light on grey areas of NIYAF’s relationship with other Non Indigenes Political Pressure Groups in the South West. We are one and undivided house”.

Politics / Those Who Defected To APC In Abia Are Political Left-overs - Group by Irukkanews: 9:54am On Jan 10, 2018
Greater Abia United, a political pressure group has described those that defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), during its so called mega rally which in reality was a rented crowd in Umuahia as nothing but political left-overs. Commenting on the decampees, the Coordinator of the group, Anthony Eze said that anyone who is in-tune with Abia politics would know that they have lost relevance.

According to him, APC is not on ground in Abia State and as such it does not know that Abians have gone beyond Orji Uzor Kalu and his extinguished cabal. He said after Orji Uzor Kalu`s disastrous eight years rule as governor ,Abians put him and his cabal behind and moved on.

According to him, the prove of this is the former governor`s serial loses of senatorial election in Abia north.
The Coordinator said that former governor Orji Kalu said that he would deliver south east to APC while he could not deliver his own constituency to the party. According to him, no matter how hard APC tries, it cannot make in-road in Abia State in particular and south east in general. His words,

"Nigerians know that APC is a party of lies and propoganda. It is a party of that is full of deceit. Orji Uzor Kalu and his extinguished cabal are no longer politically relevant in Abia State. He has contested two senatorial elections and failed woefully, so where lies his political relevance?

This is a man who promised APC that he would deliver south east to them, a doctor that wants to heal others but he cannot heal himself .The truth is that APC is on a wild goose chase in the south east, it can never make impact. The defectors are nothing but political left-overs. Rolling stones that cannot gather any moss.”.

Politics / Buhari 'll Have Nothing To Tell Nigerians In 2019 - Group by Irukkanews: 4:43pm On Jan 09, 2018
A pan Nigeria pressure group, National Vanguard for Good Governance in Nigeria has joined Father Ejike Mbaka in calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to shelve his ambition of running for second term. Father Mbaka in his new year message yesterday had said that President Buhari would be disgraced if he run for second term.

According to the president of the group, Jubril Tukur, Buhari would not have anything to tell Nigerians if he comes out for 2019 presidency. He said that the reason is because the president has failed woefully in delivering on his 2015 campaign promises. According to him, rather than move Nigeria forward, Buhari and his All Progressives Congress took the country several steps backwards.

He said that the APC had promised Nigeria that petrol would sell at N40 per litre but today it is selling officially at N145. According to him, Buhari's APC also promised Nigerians that exchange rate would be N50 per dollar while today it is over N360 per dollar. According to him, with regard to the economy, Nigerians are now suffering under Buhari`s government more than any other government since the inception of democracy in 1999.

"I am not really a fan of Fr. Mbaka but for once I feel that he has spoken reasonably. President Muhammadu Buhari would be utterly disgraced if he re-contest in 2019. There is a saying that you can fool some people some time but you cannot fool all the people all the time. APC fooled Nigerians in 2015.

They made untenable promises but now the chicken has come to roost. We have seen that they have absolutely nothing to offer. What would they tell Nigerians in again 2019 after their dismal performance? Would they continue to blame PDP and Jonathan for their failure? The truth is that we are now wiser, they cannot fool us again. ”

Politics / Fulani Herdsmen: Benue People Paying For Supporting Anti-grazing Bill - CLO by Irukkanews: 3:59pm On Jan 08, 2018
The Executive Director, Civil Liberties Organization (CLO), Comrade Ibuchukwu Ezike has said that the people of Benue State are being massacred for supporting the anti-grazing bill. Yesterday, the Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom lamented that Federal Government and security agencies in the country abandoned Benue citizens to be slaughtered by rampaging Fulani herdsmen and that some cabal have also blocked his access to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Comrade Ezike told irukkanews that the simple explanation of what is happening in Benue State is that Buhari government and security agencies are angry that the government of Benue State signed anti-grazing bill as a way of protecting their farmlands from being destroyed by cattle. He said that what is going on in the state since 2015 is nothing but crime against humanity. According to him, Buhari government has continued to demonstrate his insensitivity with regard to safeguarding the lives and properties of Nigerians.

He said the fundamental responsibility of any government that worth it's name is protection of lives and property. adding that in this regard, Buhari's government has failed woefully. The CLO boss said that it is ironical that a government that said that agriculture is one of its cardinal programs should be against anti-grazing bill which is nothing but protection of farm lands.

According to him, what Benue people are noted for is agriculture and as such they must not allow federal government and their agents ,that is the security agencies to intimidate them from going back on the anti-grazing bill. His words,

"To be honest .This APC government is absurd. This is a government that said that one of its priorities is agriculture but it is encouraging herds men to be burning and destroying farms and any farmer that protests that his farm land would not be destroyed is killed and nothing would happen. The only sin that the people of Benue has committed is that they supported anti grazing bill which is the right thing to do.

We know as the food basket of the nation. How can they continue to be the food basket if they allow cattle to destroy their farm lands. And to tell you the type of country we are in, when the Fulani cannibals were slaughtering innocent citizens, the so called security agencies and even the federal government turned their back on them. They have even blocked the governor from having access to the president, this is to tell you how powerful the sympathizers, if not the sponsors of Fulani herdsmen have become, simply because their patron as well as kinsman is in power. This should be a food for thought for Nigerians as we head to another election”.

Ogun 2019: Non Yoruba Indigenes in Ogun APC to support candidate that Will give them sense of belonging

Going by the giant strides that the governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun has made with regard to development what a lot of people are wondering is who would be worthy to step into his big shoe so as to continue from where he stopped. So far some people have indicated interest in the job.

Some of them are, Tolu Odebiyi, Baraj Adekunbi, Ishak Akinlade, Rotimi Ramon. Others are Dapo Abiodun, Kola Lawal, Gboyega Nasiru, Ladi Adebiyi, among others. However Non Yoruba Indigenes in Ogun APC has said that some of the aspirants are eminently qualified to rule the state but that they would only support the candidate that would give them sense of belonging. According to the founder /Chairman of the organization, Chief Dr. Chris Orie, popularly known as Bishop, Governor Ibikunle Amosun has done extremely well with regard to bringing infrastructural development to Ogun State.

However, he said in the area of giving Non Yoruba indigenes sense of belonging when compared with what is going on in the other states in the south west, he has not really lived up to expectation. According to him, in Lagos State for instance Non Yoruba indigenes are being appointed commissioners, Senior Advisers to the governor and so on. He said non Yoruba indigenes are also being appointed into boards .

According to him, the Non Yoruba indigenes living in Ogun State want the same thing to be happening in Ogun State since they too are contributing their own quota towards the development of the state. He said since politics is a game of numbers, Non Yoruba indigenes living in Ogun State constitute over 60 per cent of the electorates, adding that it is therefore worrisome that with their numerical strength ,they are not considered for appointment in the state.

According to him in 2019, they would use their numerical strength to ensure that the candidate that would give them sense of belonging would win the governorship election. Chief Orie said that very soon they would begin sensitization of their members in the nooks and crannies of the state so that those who don’t have voters card would go and get it ahead of 2019 general election

Politics / Imo People Carpet Ararume's Governorship Ambition by Irukkanews: 3:34pm On Jan 06, 2018
Imo Peoples Assembly(IMA), an umbrella body of Imo State indigenes in Nigeria and Diaspora has described the governorship ambition of Senator Ifeanyi Araume as another disaster looming in the dark in Imo State. Speaking in an interview with irukkanews, the President of the organization, Prince Ignatius Ozaraebuka said if Senator Ararume has conscience, he should be hiding his face in shame and disgrace going by the fact that he was one of those that played key role for Rochas Okorocha to win the 2015 Imo governorship election.

According to him, what Imo indigenes need from Araume is nothing but an apology for helping to impose on them a governor whose mental state is strongly in doubt. He said, today Imo State has become a laughing state thanks to Ararume and people like him. Prince Ozaraebuka said that never again would the people of Imo have anything to do with anybody who has anything to do with Rochas Okorocha.

He said in the last eight years, Imo state has been in wrong hand ,adding that in 2019,they must get it right or perish as a people. He also appealed to Imo indigenes the world over to remain calm in the face of what is currently going on in the state. His words,

"To be honest, this is the worst time to come from Imo State. No son or daughter of Imo state is proud. Our heads are lowered in shame because we are being mocked in every part of the world, what is going on in our state now is nothing but a reality show, Okorocha has turned to a comedian. The man who told us that he was coming to rescue Imo State has become the destroyer in chief of Imo State.

What we now hear from Imo state is personalization of government and commissioning of statutes. Stupid stories like Okorocha plotting that his son in law, Uche Nwosu to succeed him so that his daughter would take over the same bed that her mother left in the Government House. Mind you his sister who was appointed the Commissioner for Happiness and Purpose Fulfillment was formerly the Deputy Chief Staff in Imo State government.

This is never what we bargained for. But we are now wiser and I am very sure that in 2019, the Egyptians that we are seeing now both in Owerri and Abuja, we would see them no more”.

Politics / Oby Ezekwesili, A Prodigal Daughter - Activist by Irukkanews: 1:58pm On Jan 05, 2018
A former Student Leader, Auwal Jubrin has described former Minister of Education,Mrs Oby Ezekwesili as a prodigal daughter. Reacting to a recent tweet by Mrs Ezekwesili that her political Agenda for 2019 is to campaign against PDP and APC, the former National Financial Secretary of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) told irukkanews that Oby Ezekwesili played a major role in the defeat of President Goodluck Jonathan with the Bring Back Our Girls Campaign organization which was funded by the APC and with the intention to discredit and rubbish the PDP led federal government then.

According to him, Oby Ezekwesili wanted Jonathan to be defeated so badly that she had to turn to activist overnight and began to use the Chibok girls abduction as a tool to achieve her desire. The former Students Union leader said, after working hard to install APC at the centre, she was stunned that she was not considered for ministerial or any other top appointment.

He said that the former Minister began to fight Buhari government after her deputy in the BBOG campaign was given the Nigeria Ports Authority top job and while she was left in the cold. According to him, since she helped to defeat PDP in 2015 and has been rejected by the APC ,she is now between the devil and the deep blue. He said that it is because of this she had resolved to work against the two parties.

The student union activist also said that Nigerians knew her antecedents and as such would not take her serious in 2019. He said that as a minister of Education, she performance was a disaster, adding that she has nothing to offer Nigerians other than expressing her frustrations now and then.

Ogun 2019: Group To Support Governorship Candidate That 'Ll Continue With Amosun Legacies

A foremost political organization with presence in all the nooks and crannies of Ogun Staate, Non Yoruba Indigenes in Ogun APC, has said that they would support only the governorship candidate that would continue with the legacies of the current governor of the state, Ibikunle Amosun..

According to the founder/Chairman of the organization,Chief Dr. Chris Orie, governor Amosun is doing well in office and for the development to be sustained,it is only a governorship candidate that believes in his policies and programs that should succeed him. He said that since the inception of the current democracy in 1999,Ogun state has never had it this good. According to him, Non-Yoruba indigenes living in Ogun are happy with the development strides of Governor Amosun and want it to continue even when he is no longer in office.

He said the only way this can be possible is to ensure that Non Yoruba Indigenes in Ogun state who constitute a chunk of the electorates in the state have decided to vote for the governorship candidate that would continue with the good works of the current governor. Chief Orie said anything other than this would impede the development going on in the state. According to him, in many states of the country there are cases of abandoned projects, which are cases of succeeding governors not believing in the policies and programs of their predecessors.

He said Non- Yoruba indigenes living Ogun State want the success of their host community, adding that it is because of that they would vote the governorship candidate that would continue with the developments that governor Amosun has brought to Ogun State. His words,

"We the Non-Yoruba Indigenes in Ogun APC consider ourselves as partners in progress with our host community. We are happy with the development that Governor Ibikunle Amosun has brought to Ogun State. I want to say without fear of contradiction that since the beginning of this democracy in 1999, Ogun State has never had it this good. Amosun is a trail blazer as far development is concerned. He has made giant strides which is unheard of in the state and we want this to continue.

The only way this can continue is for a governorship candidate who believes in his policies and programs to succeed him and it is such candidate that we the non Yoruba indigenes in Ogun State would campaign and vote for”.

Politics / Age Controversy: At What Point In History Did Babangida Became Older Than Buhari by Irukkanews: 5:35pm On Jan 03, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari recently stirred the hornet`s nest when he said that all along, he was thinking that he was 74 years old, only to be told that he was 75 years. The issue that is now bothering students of history is ,at what point did the former military president, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida became older than Muhammadu Buhari?

During the coup of 1975 in which the head of state then Gen. Murtala Muhammed was killed, one of the leaders of the coup, Lt. Col. Buka Sukar Dimka had told Ibrahim Babangida that young officers in the army were envious of him (Babangida),because he was the youngest member of the Supreme Military Council (SMC), which was the highest military organ then.Buhari was also a member of the SMC at the time. Again, after the 1983, December 31st coup that removed President Shehu Shagari from office, the ring leaders of the coup, notably Ibrahim Babangida and Sani Abacha had resolved to hand over power to the most senior military officer from the north, who happened to be Muhammadu Buhari, who was not part of the plot. That was how Buhari became military head of state.

Last year August, Babangida celebrated his 76 years birthday, while Buhari is still thinking that he is 74 years. So, the question is, at what point in history did Babangida became older than Buhari? Does it mean that Buhari does not know his age or he is lying about it. If somebody does not know his age, he can look at that of his peer group or contemporaries and from theirs guess his own. At least former president Olusegun Obasanjo said that was what he did.

How can Babangida who was his junior both in age and in service in the army be celebrating 76 years birthday, while he (Buhari ), would still be thinking that he is 74. If this is not evidence of deceit, which is a form of corruption, then it should be senility. But if it is not any of the above, then it would lend credence to the speculation that his brain stopped booting in 1985,after he was booted out of office as a military head of state by the same Babangida and Abacha.

That was why he did not know that east and west Germany ceased to exist four years later(1989), the reason he told the German Prime Minister, Merkel in 2015 when he went on a state visit to Germany as an elected president that he was happy to be in Western Germany. A statement that shocked the world and embarrassed African s as a whole.

Politics / Non-yoruba Indigenes In APC Southwest Back Buhari-osinbajo For 2019 by Irukkanews: 10:37am On Jan 03, 2018
A political organization under the name of Non Yoruba Indigenes APC Forum, Southwest chapter, has thrown it`s weight behind the re-election of Muhammadu Buhari and Yemi Osinbajo in 2019. According to the founder/chairman of the organization, Chief Dr, Chris Orie, the decision to back their re-election was made after taking a holistic view of their achievements in the last three years. He said going by the fact that they came on board when the global economy was on a decline and coupled with other crisis, they have done well in stirring the ship of the country.

According to him, even though president Buhari and Osinbajo have not fulfilled all their campaign promises, they have delivered on the cardinal ones like fight on corruption and security. He said with Buhari and Osinbajo on the saddle, the corrupt elements in the country now know that it is no more business as usual.
According to him, for the first time in many years ,live and businesses have come back to the north east part of the country.

He said that peace has also returned to the crisis prone Niger delta as a result of the leadership prowess of Buhari and Osinbajo. Chief Orie said that they believe that Buhari and Osinbajo need to be supported so that they would continue with the good work that they are already doing.

"We the members of Non -Yoruba Indigenes APC Forum, Southwest geo-political zone are throwing our weight behind the re-electon of President Muhammadu Buhari and Prof.Yemi Osinbajo.

If corruption is eradicated from our society and systems, there would be constant power supply There would be good roads, hospitals, pipe borne water, industries, employment and others and it is only Buhari and Osinbajo that can make this possible” Chief Orie said

Politics / 2019: Non Yoruba Indigenes In Southwest APC Caution Against Muslim-muslim Ticket by Irukkanews: 10:30am On Jan 02, 2018
Ahead of the 2019 presidential election ,a political organization under the aegis of Non –Yoruba Indigenes APC Forum in Southwest geo-political zone has warned against imposition of Muslim -Muslim presidential and vice presidential ticket by the ruling party. Speaking at the end of their well attended meeting in Ota,Ogun state, the founder of the organization, which constitute over 60 per cent of the electorates in the Geo-political zone, Chief Dr Chris Orie said that a Muslim-Muslim ticket would be a hard sale for the party.

According to him, the leadership of the APC should take into cognisance the secularity of the country before choosing its presidential and vice presidential candidates. He said that religion is a very sensitive issue in the country, adding that for APC to win the 2019 presidential election, it must carry the two dominant religions in the country along. According to him, there has been rumors in the past that APC is a Muslim party.

Chief Orie said if the party goes ahead to field only Muslims in the presidential election, it would lend credence to the rumor and the result would not be palatable. According to him, APC must not use 1993 presidential election when Chief M.K.O Abiola and Alhaji Babagana Kingibe ran a Muslim-Muslim ticket and won as a credible reference point. He said Nigeria of today and then is not the same. His words,

"We the members of Non-Yoruba Indigenes APC Forum in southwest want to appeal to the leadership of our great party that there must not be a Muslim-Muslim presidential and vice presidential ticket for 2019 election. The reason for this is because it would be a hard sale. Religion is a very sensitive issue in Nigeria. If we go into statistics, the population of Christians and Muslims in Nigeria is almost 50-50. Therefore, it may be a disaster if a whooping 50 per cent of the population is left out in an election that from all indication may be very tight".

So, as lovers of our great party, the All Progressives Congress, we want the leadership of our party to get it right from the beginning”.

He also said that the organization has drawn up it agenda for the 2018 calendar year. According to him, the organization would soon begin membership drive in all the nooks and crannies of the southwest to ensure that APC would be solid for the 2019 election. He said, beginning from Ogun State, they would have their mobilizers in all the wards and councils in the southwest.

Politics / Non-yoruba In Ogun Pledge Support To Governor Amosun's Govt by Irukkanews: 12:39pm On Dec 29, 2017
A group, Non-Yoruba Indigenes Empowerment Initiative (NYIEI) in Ogun State, has pledged its support to the administration of Governor Ibikunle Amosun.

Speaking at its end of year gathering at Ota, founder of the organisation, Dr. Chris Orie, said non-Yoruba indigenes in the state are satisfied with Amosun’s performance since he came into office.

According to him, the governor had been fair to both indigenes and non-indigenes living in the state.

This he said had given them sense of belonging as well as the motivation to contribute their quota towards the development of the state. Orie said the purpose of forming the organisation is to serve as a rallying point for non-Yoruba indigenes in Ogun state and ensure peace and harmonious relationship between them and their host community.

The NYIEI boss said the organisation would ensure non-indigenes are law-abiding, pay their taxes and live responsibly in the state.

He also appealed to the governor to always carry the non-indigenes along while making appointments and giving employments.

According to him, as leaders of the non-indigenes, they would always make sure that government policies and programmes get to every nook and cranny of the state.

Politics / Amosun And The Burden Of Non Indigenes In Ogun State - By Dr Chris Orie by Irukkanews: 10:03am On Dec 26, 2017
I have never thought of living in Ogun State in my lifetime but through the waywardness of fate, the south western State has become my home for now. Raised in the North by Igbo parents and now finding myself in Yoruba makes me a thorough Nigerian breed by all capacity which by the special Grace of the Almighty enables me to speak Hausa, Yoruba and naturally Igbo Languages, almost in equal proportion.

This my linguistic advantage helped me in no little measure when I came out with the idea of forming an association that embodies Non-Yoruba Indigenes in Ogun State. Interestingly, before I could explain the ideology behind the initiative, members from the Hausa, Igbo, Tiv, Nupe, Urhobo, Igala, Idoma, Kanuri, Fulani, Igbira, Okun Community and South-South have started indicating their interest simply because I was able to bridge that insurmountable language barrier. With that, we were able to form the associations comprising of Non Yoruba Indigenes living in Ogun State. The groups, one of which is Non-Yoruba Indigenes of All Progressive Congress Forum (NYIAF), the political arm of Non Indigenes in Ogun State Zone, which held their one year anniversary recently (14TH December 2017) at Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria. It was laughter, laughter and laughter all the way.

From my own perspective, The Non Yoruba Indigenes' groups can be described as a child or product of necessity in the sense that there are issues and anomalies it stands to address within the domain where we reside.

First is the issue of multiple taxation; experience has shown that most government multiple taxation policies are targeted at the Non Yoruba Indigenes who pay many times higher than what their Yoruba counterparts pay at the same circumstances. Where the Indigenes receive waivers, the Non Yoruba Indigenes are made to pay through their nose.

Again, the Non indigenes are never recognized despite the fact that they accounts for 40% and 60- 70% of the state's IGR when it comes to commerce. Yet these economic growers are not accorded the required recognition in form of reduction in number of taxes they are made to cough out.

These non indigenes also suffer other forms of marginalization and dehumanization, some of which are orchestrated by some law enforcement agents. For instance, there was a particular case of a raid carried out by some law enforcement agents within a business environment in Ogun State. In the process shops were locked. All the businessmen and women were fined and it was later observed that the authorities fined indigenes Five Hundred Naira (#500) whereas Non Yoruba Indigenes among them paid a whopping sum of Five Thousand Naira (#5000) to free themselves.

So the question is why must some Nigerians be treated differently under same condition? Why must some Nigerians contributing to the economic growth of a State be subjected to the position of second class citizens in their own country in the name of Non Indigenes?

Furthermore, children born and bred in South Western States are denied certificate of indigeneship because their parents are Non Indigenes. This is not the practice in civilized places. For example, in foreign countries, such as USA, Europe, Etc. once a foreigner lives up to ten years in such country, he or she is qualified to start processing his or her citizenship document. Also if a child is born in any of such countries, that child gains its automatic citizenship but in the South West which is our own country, it is not so. Again, Non Yoruba Indigenes Students who gained admission in State tertiary institutions pay almost three times more than their Yoruba counterparts.

Sadly, the non indigenes are marginalized in their different communities. It is no longer a secret that in most South Western States, especially in their respective CDA meetings, Yoruba language is used as lingua franca even where Non Yoruba Indigenes are dominant. They are rather forced to use Yoruba language during the meeting sessions instead of English language which is the country's official language.

In as much as I have been able to point out some of the plight of non-Yoruba indigenes in the state, I must be quick to commend Governor Ibikunle Amosun for the efforts the governor has put to see that the state moves to the next level. It is therefore very important that the current development going on in Ogun state by the Senator Amosun led government should be upheld by both indigenes and non-indigenes. The system should therefore be guarded jealously to check the excesses of some political gladiators that may come up with the intentions of bringing up candidates from strange camps to succeed the current governor which might not augur well for all.

One good thing the governor has done passionately is the empowerment of house owners in the State. Since history of the state, no government has ever approved mass release of Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) to both indigenes and non-indigenes as much as the present Ogun State government has done. Secondly, the Land Grabbers' Law initiated by the governor is another landmark achievement in favour of both the Non Yoruba Indigenes and Indigenes in the State. For now, the "omonile" phenomenon is gradually disappearing in the state.

Before now, we had so many governors in Ogun State; in fact, Ogun State was one of the most dilapidated States in Nigeria. But despite the infrastructural deficit, Ogun State is now one of the most industrialized States after Lagos State in Nigeria.

With such efforts, it is very important that Ogun State people watch very carefully and also resist any form of imposition of candidate to run their affairs in the upcoming general election in the state. Be that as it may, I want to state unequivocally that the Non Yoruba Indigenes in South West will remain law abiding and will continue to contribute their quota towards the economic and political development of the South West Region.

Personally, I see Amosun as a Devil we know which is better than that angel we don’t know”. We don’t want any imposition of candidate in Ogun State. If the good works must continue, Amosun’s successor should continue where the governor stopped. And whoever that is coming under APC should be a person that will imbibe culture of continuity and key into all the laudable projects going on in the state.

There is no doubt however, that Governor Amosun has not done much for Non Yoruba Indigenes but we believe that the next governor will remember the Non Yoruba Indigenes more than what we are experiencing at the moment. No doubt, the Non Yoruba Indigenes deserve better treatment and i sincerely believe the state government can do better.

The Non Yoruba Indigenes are prepared to work with the present Government and the ones in the future provided they recognize and attend to the cries and yearnings of our people.

Politics / Non-Yoruba Indigenes In South West Regroup Under NYIEI by Irukkanews: 9:49am On Dec 26, 2017
Recently, members of Non Yoruba Indigenes Empowerment Initiatives (NYIEI) launched the group in Ota area of Ogun State. In this piece, ANTHONY AWUNOR who witnessed the inauguration looks at the essence, impacts and what the society stands to gain from such organization.

For many years, interethnic struggling has been one of Nigeria’s greatest social problems amongst the over 250 ethnic nationalities spread across the country. To put the problem to rest, particularly in the South Western part of the country, a group known as Non Yoruba Indigenes Empowerment Initiatives (NYIEI) has emerged in the region.

To formalize their existence, the group which was founded since February 2017, inaugurated the body on 2nd of December this year in Ota area of Ogun State.

The colorful ceremony took place in Honda Playing ground, Ota and was attended by people from all walks of life, cutting across all the tribes in Nigeria, including women, young and the old.

Founded by Chief Chris Orie, the body comprises of people from the South East, South South, North Central, North West and North East extracts of Nigerians domiciled in the South West States, irrespective of party affiliations, tribe, religion or gender.

Speaking at the media lunch and inauguration of the group, South West Chairman of NYIEI, Chief Chris Orie said that their vision is to unite all non-Yoruba indigenes in South West to speak with one voice, adding that grass root mobilization of all non-indigenes in South West, empowerment of all are paramount to the organization.

Chief who described NYIEI as a child of necessity, pointed out that there are issues and anomalies the group stands to address within the domain where they reside, particularly as it concerns: multiple taxation, non-recognition of their input, marginalization amongst others.

According to Chief Orie, the population of the non-indigenes is overwhelmingly within 50-60 per cent in some of the South West States, adding that it is obvious that with this population, it is likely possible for any politician to emerge a winner in an election without votes of non-Yoruba indigenes counting for him.

Lamenting on threats they are already experiencing, Orie said "The greatest undoing of the non-Yoruba indigents as a whole has been the case of "lone ranger” approach. We have for decades tried in vain to draw the attention of successive governments in Ogun State, and other South Western states to our side by our petty, parochial and like I always say "sectional politicking” but with NYIEI on board today, we the non Yorubas are saying goodbye to our weaknesses and failures and welcome to our strength and victory.

According to a co-founder of the organization and leader of South West of NYIEI, Chief Anslem Njoku, the purpose of the non-indigenes coming together is to ensure unity among them.

Chief Njoku who is also the chairman of Ndigbo United Association said that the non-indigenes need to speak with one voice and also live in harmony with their host community.

According to him, the coming together would promote peaceful co-existence between the non-indigenes and their host community, adding that if there is a conflict, the organization would also serve as a platform for reconciliation. His words:

"I want to say that Yoruba land is a blessing to us, the non-indigenes. Most of us who have become somebody today come to Yoruba land with nothing. If you are the most hard-working or the most intelligent person in the world but the environment is not conducive, there is nothing much you can do. So, whatever achievement that non indigenes are making in the south west is not just because we are hardworking or that we are intelligent, conducive environment plays a major role. So, our host community has provided a conducive environment for us, we have to reciprocate by organizing ourselves so that there would be harmonious relationship between us and them.”

He said after the inauguration, the next step would be the launching which would be done in all the states in the south west.

Addressing journalists at the event, leader of Hausa community in Lagos, Alhaji Adamu Isa-Likali stated that as the leader in Lagos, he has been working with Osun State government and Lagos to see that there is peace and harmony amongst the non-indigenes.

Alhaji Isa-Likali assured that NYIEI, by special grace of God will bring all the tribes together in 2019, adding that they have demonstrated such move before following a peace forum organised at the National Stadium on October 1st in Lagos.

While speaking on the position of NYIEII, President General of all non-Indigenes and General Patron /Apex Leader of NYIEI, Ogun State, Chief Austine Azuka Ikeze said "the impression of the association to our own understanding and the way we initiated it is that it is going to be a kind of political platform of the entire non indigenes that are in different political parties to come under one umbrella and speak with one voice. And then we the parent body are apolitical. So they themselves are the ones to discuss politics but when it is time , they will bring the same idea to us, then we look at it and how we can digest, refines and advise them how best to go. We also look at it as an avenue for us to be part of the decision making process”.

According to Chief Ikeze, there are quite a number of issues that needed to be put in the right perspective, particularly on the use of Yoruba Language in CDA meetings, even in situations where non Indigenes are more in number; high fees charged to students who are not indigenes at tertiary institution and the issue of denial of automatic citizenship to children born within the South West whenever the need arises.

With about four zones of non-indigenes in Ogun State, Ikeze who is also a former gubernatorial aspirant under CPP in Ogun State stated that the number of non-indigenes in Ogun State is quite high and that, they require good treatment despite the fact that they are non-indigenes.

In her remark the Ada Di Ora Nma of Ndigbo, Ado-Odo Ota, His Royal Highness, Queen Tessy Nwaobi Nnadi said that over time, non-indigenes have not been recognised and therefore, have not been given its rightful place in the region.

Noting that it is only during elections that they are called upon after which they were dumped again, the queen added "It is only election period they come to us because they need votes. The non-indigenes population is more than the indigenes. We found out that we are used and dumped. That is why we decide to come together to claim our rights because they can’t be using us and dumping us.

On the impact of NYIEI to the society, Queen Nwaobi Nnadi who is also the Ezenwanyi Ndi Igbo of Ogun State added "it will have a lot of positive impacts because when we speak with one voice, they will always get the necessary attention. To me I foresee no problems in terms of cultural differences. I believe we are one and we should work as one. The body has come to stay; it is not just for 2019 but for the next generations to come. I want Nigerians to embrace peace and love”.

In his own views, Chief Agamah Emmanuel, a member of the organization from Benue State pointed out that NYIEI is not all about Igbo, Yourba and Hausa but cuts across all the tribes apart from Yoruba.

Emphasising that every state is part of NYIEI, Chief Agamah stated that "the body is bringing the entire Nigeria together and it is going to bring unity. When we come together in unity, it will make us to speak with one voice. And when we speak with one voice, our voice would be heard. When it is heard, there will be force which can make the authorities reckon with us”.

Chief Agamah however, pointed that the major challenge in Nigeria is division and when people say that they belong to North South or North West or other tribes, adding that NYIEI wants to address such situations.

Also speaking was the Obi of Iyana Iyesi-Mupin and the Asiwaju of Ndigbo in Ado-Odo Ota, Chief Sunny Nwaebuka who pointed out that the emergence of NYIEI is going to benefit the people.

"People are going to benefit for example, most of us have come to understand most of our problems. We are asking the government to listen to our voice as we have a lot of things to offer. Members of non-Yoruba indigenes should give us the opportunity because we are going to fight to ensure that their voices are heard”, Chief Nwaebuka said.

To the Obi Ndigbo of Iyesi, Chief Chukwuemeka Ugwunta, the non-indigenes association has been broaden as they have already started taking in people outside the country like the Ghanaians, Togo and even Cotonou citizens.

"We are trying to see how we can come together so that our voice can be heard. We believe in the founder, Chief Chris Orie and other co-founders. The turnout at the inauguration shows that the organization is already a success. Since February, a lot of things are now in progress. Since the introduction, the level of intimation of non-indigenes has reduced. We have expanded it to welcome foreigners such as Ghanains”, Chief Ugwunta said.

Describing the group as God’s intervention for non-indigenes in South West, Women Leader of NYIEI, Lolo Dominion Uche Onyeisi said it is time for the non-indigenes to say enough is enough.

She however, added that the group will bring good things, particularly to the non-indigenes in South West, adding "It can bring down the multiple taxation levied on no indigenes which has been on for some time. Other issues it will address include non-recognition of non-indigenes even though they generate the revenue

According the leader of the group in Yelwa South of Ogun State, Chief Michael Chukwuemeka Aniekwe, as a body NYIEI is trying to call everyone to be law abiding citizens of Nigeria, adding that their major aim is to organize themselves properly in such a manner that they can always speak with one voice.

Chief Aniekwe assured that many people are responding to NYIEI membership with over 85 of them indicating interest to the association, adding that when a good traditional culture has evolved within them, they would be able to impact it on others.

The group appealed to non-Yoruba indigenes in the South West who are not members to join them. To the government, NYIEI said "the organization wants to state unequivocally that the non-Yoruba indigenes in South West will remain law abiding and will continue to contribute their quota towards the economic and political development of the South West region.
